McCain and Graham seek to gut 9/11 bill and immunize foreign governments funding terrorists

Dec 2, 2016 9:26 am By Robert Spencer

These clowns don’t seem to realize that a new wind is blowing, or if they do, are working hard to protect their masters before the new regime comes in. It’s a relief that they lost their partner and fellow useful idiot, New Hampshire’s Kelly Ayotte.

“BREAKING: McCain and Graham Seek to Gut 9/11 Bill to Immunize Foreign Governments Funding Terrorists,” by Patrick Poole, PJ Media,November 30, 2016:

In a Senate floor speech today, Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham announced that they are offering an amendment to strip a key element of the recently passed Justice Against Sponsors of Terror Act (JASTA) that clarifies U.S. law for civil claims against foreign governments for funding terrorism.

JASTA was passed in the Senate in May with no objections, and passed the House of Representatives unanimously in September. President Obama promptly vetoed the bill. The Senate and House successfully voted to override the veto and the bill became law.

McCain and Graham specifically said they want to strip the “discretionary state function” provision from JASTA that creates liability for foreign governments funding terrorist groups.

According to Hill sources familiar with the McCain/Graham amendment, their intention is to immunize countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar that have funded Sunni terrorist groups in Syria — the Syrian “rebel” effort that both McCain and Graham have publicly supported since 2011.

The McCain/Graham amendment was slammed by 9/11 family groups that fought for JASTA.The 9/11 Families and Survivors United for Justice Against Terrorism put out the following press release this afternoon:

In a speech on the Senate floor this afternoon Senator Graham pitched this new language as a simple “caveat” but in reality he is proposing to amend JASTA to add a specific jurisdictional defense Saudi Arabia has been relying on for the last 13 years to avoid having to face the 9/11 families’ evidence on the merits. Moreover, Senator Graham and Senator McCain mischaracterized JASTA in several material respects during their speeches today. For example, Senator Graham argued that JASTA is deficient because it does not require that a foreign state have “knowingly” supported terrorism in order for liability to attach, but in fact JASTA’s liability provision expressly requires that the foreign state have “knowingly provided substantial assistance” to a designated terrorist organization in order for liability to arise. Senator Graham also suggested that adding a discretionary function provision to JASTA would protect the US from claims for drone strikes in Pakistan, which is simply incorrect given that Pakistan has made clear its view that domestic and international law prohibit those strikes.

Notably, Graham’s and McCain’s efforts come in the wake of a massive lobbying campaign by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which is now employing roughly a dozen Washington lobbying firms at a cost of more than $1.3 million per month.

“In April of this year, Senator Graham met with 9/11 family members from the September 11 Advocates Group and told them that he supported our cause 100%,” said Terry Strada, National Chair for the 9/11 Families and Survivors United for Justice Against Terrorism.

“Senator Graham is now stabbing the 9/11 families in the back. He and Senator McCain are seeking to torpedo JASTA by imposing changes demanded by Saudi Arabia’s lobbyists. We have reviewed the language, and it is an absolute betrayal.”…

It appears their intention is to pass the amendments to JASTA during the lame-duck session before they lose key allies, such as Senator Kelly Ayotte, who lost her reelection bid in New Hampshire.

In a phone conversation with Senator Graham–early in this past election cycle–I asked him to explain the difference between “radical Islam” (a term he uses so frequently) and regular Islam.

The response had nothing to do with the question.

Not surprising. Their loyalties are not with America or the American people. I wonder what is the amount being transferred into their personal coffers by the Saudi/Qatar/ME cartel for their services…dhimmitude and treason.

        Thank you for your response.

My point, though, is that he couldn’t explain the difference. Of course, as there’s no such thing as “radical” Islam–I understand his ability to do so.

Among the RINO’s in the senate Graham and McCain are the most vacuous. They symbolize the obvious fact that the ossification of the Upper House has been going on for some time now. It is high time these two along, with Hatch of Utah, were sent to retirement homes where they can play checkers and shuffle board. They re not good for anything else.

As a USAF Officer and war vet myself, these two asswipes particularly are disgraceful fools, and a total embarrassment to all who’ve worn America’s uniform.

We’ve had some marvelous talent and leadership on Capitol Hill, who’ve previously served in the military, but these two fools aren’t included.

Look up “the Keating Five” which says all one needs to know about mccain.

Evil comes in all colors and in all ages and both genders. Sometimes with a smile.

And sometimes, as the photo of mccain shows, with the dead eyes of islam.

I vaguely remember seeing McCain standing in the well of the Senate with his head hung low and being censored for something to do with the Keating Five. He should have been removed from the Senate at that time; However, his Constituents keep electing him.

I know that he was tortured while a POW and was offered to be released because of his father’s high rank in the Navy, refusing until all others were released, and that did take a tremendous amount of courage, IMO. But on the other hand, he had caused a crash of a jet on the deck of an aircraft carrier and some say ran away from it instead of helping douse the fire, but that is not a fact of which I can find confirmation.

He had a wife who apparently stuck with him through those terrible years of captivity, but he took up with a young chickie in Hawaii and dumped his wife along the way. I certainly don’t admire that. I also think that he might be a “Manchurian Candidate” because his actions vis a’ vis Islam and especially Syria lead one to believe he is on the wrong side or he is ignorant of the facts—or he was brainwashed.

While I don’t like either of the two, I have two minds on this issue.

Does it not open up the US to cases filed against them for supporting terrorism? Real (supplying the “FSA” and the Kurds) and imagined.

I would think a better way to seek justice is to act politically, not legally, against state sponsors of terrorism like Qatar, SA, Iran etc. Trump might just do that.

to RichardL, who asks, “Does it not open up the US to cases filed against them for supporting terrorism? ”

Exactly what occurred to me when I first heard of this bill and the subsequent amendments,

I agree, political action or even military action is more expedient and sensible than instituting a a legal circus – which will impact the USA just as well as SA, etc. What the original bill truly does is insure that lawyers make money. Lots and lots and lots of money.

9/11 families notwithstanding, I think the original law is short-sighted and potentially disastrous.

      Cheers!

Good rule of thumb – whatever Obama wants, and until evidence to the contrary, assume the best course of action is the exact opposite.

John McCain is the Manchurian Candidate (the 1962 version). During his 6 years in the “Hanoi Hilton”, the North Vietnamese conducted extensive torture, and broke him. He is a puppet. It would be very interesting to know who the puppetmasters are, and how they are connected to the ummah.

    • DFD says

      Dec 3, 2016 at 1:23 pm

You have made some good points. McCain made some very puzzling remarks, or calls. Call it what you will. As far as the Hanoi Hilton is concerned, I think probability or reason for agreement with you is much higher than the opposite.

There’s a sying here in parts of Europe: “After a while you can see on which side the other guys sandwich is buttered.” (Losely translated). I believe the tell tales is that it would be of perticular benefit for SA and Qatar, don’t you too?

      • Ed Lee says

        Dec 3, 2016 at 7:10 pm

His compromised, compliant brain would have great value to any of the middle east oil dependent countries. My primary question is, who is controlling him? Is it the Chinese (the puppetmasters of the North Vietnamese during the 1960s and 1970s), or have they sold McCain’s on-demand compliance to the highest bidder, who could easily be the Saudis?

    • Dr.Ramon Argila de Torres y Sandoval says

It is NOT a moot point when what he did during Vietnam he is continually repeating in variations today. He stymies investigations into POWs, putting a hand in the face of people alive today seeking to find missing relatives or friends. That is TODAY! It is relative to the extent that he continues to do the same thing as in Vietnam. He was a coward only wanting to save his life.

His actions in Vietnam and afterwards were disgraceful and his tenure as Secretary of State has resembled Bozo the Clown, especially taking an over-the-hill-folk singer to Paris to sing “You’ve got a Friend.” It was embarrassing. I am baffled as to how Lindsay Graham could possibly hold public office. Just look and listen to this sniveling human weasel. Who would vote for him? And as for McCain — after he took Sarah Palin to be his VP pick, any hope he had of being taken seriously by any intelligent person went right down the drain. In recent year we’ve learned a lot about his shadowy Islamic connections.

Trump needs to draw attention to this right now! Use the bully pulpit of his victory tour to start raising a big stink!

Summary: Mohammed commonly bribed foreign delegations so he could get intelligence from them and to buy the betrayal of their countries so he could take over.

Bukhari #005.059.716 Military Expeditions led by the Prophet (pbuh) (Al-Maghaazi)

    Bukhari :: Book 5 :: Volume 59 :: Hadith 716

Narrated Ibn Abbas: Thursday! And how great that Thursday was! The ailment of Allah’s Apostle became worse (on Thursday) and he said, fetch me something so that I may write to you something after which you will never go astray.” The people (present there) differed in this matter, and it was not right to differ before a prophet. Some said, “What is wrong with him ? (Do you think ) he is delirious (seriously ill)? Ask him ( to understand his state ).” So they went to the Prophet and asked him again. The Prophet said, “Leave me, for my present state is better than what you call me for.” Then he ordered them to do three things. He said, “Turn the pagans out of the ‘Arabian Peninsula; respect and give gifts to the foreign delegations as you have seen me dealing with them.” (Said bin Jubair, the sub-narrator said that Ibn Abbas kept quiet as regards the third order, or he said, “I forgot it.”)

At this rate he’ll die in office; Grand Canyon State voters are just too stupid. Why Palmetto State voters put up with Light-Loafered Lisping Miss Lindsey astounds me.
