The tired, pusillanimous, cowardly “conservative” establishment, late to the party as always, as always leading from behind:
“Not since George Wallace has there been a presidential candidate who made racial and religious scapegoating so central to his campaign. Trump launched his campaign talking about Mexican rapists and has gone on to rant about mass deportation, bans on Muslim immigration, shutting down mosques, and building a wall around America. America is an exceptional nation in large part because we’ve aspired to rise above such prejudices and guarantee life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to everyone.” — “Conservatives Against Trump,” National Review, January 21, 2016
“Some immigrants from jihad zones will be involved in murdering Americans. Is this an acceptable price for compassion?” — “It’s Time for Honest Talk about Muslim Immigration,” National Review, November 30, 2016
Here is the opposite of National Review’s tardy and pallid me-tooism, a genuine example of standing athwart history and shouting “Stop”:
“End Muslim immigration to the United States. This is a simple matter of national security. Immigration policy must work toward the integration of all immigrants, and the all-encompassing societal program of sharia makes the integration of pious Muslims ultimately impossible. While there are undoubtedly millions of Muslims who have no interest in jihad either by violence or stealth, no Islamic authorities anywhere in the world have declared heretical or in any way unacceptable the idea that non-Muslims must be fought against by various means and subjugated under the rule of Islamic law. Unless and until that begins to happen, no one can be sure of the sentiments of any individual believer. Consequently, simply to protect ourselves, there should be an end to Muslim immigration, combined with a clear notice to Muslims in the United States that any action on behalf of sharia supremacism is unacceptable. But ending Muslim immigration to America must be considered a long-term goal, since such a measure is impossible in today’s political climate. The proposal would inevitably be denounced as ‘racist,’ despite the fact that jihadist supremacism is not a race. But at the very least, immigration officials should immediately adopt a program to screen Muslims entering the United States for jihadist sentiments. This will provide grounds for deportation if an entrant renounces some aspect of sharia supremacism on his immigration application and then works for it once in the country.” — Robert Spencer, Stealth Jihad, Regnery Publishing, October 28, 2008, pages 278-279.

Didn’t JW publish from some left wing anal pore something to the effect that ” some Muslim refugees will be terrorists; some will murder people; some will rape; so what?” Or similar?
If so, perhaps NR is just joining in.
Since their favorites were so lightly thought of by the GOP voters ( Rubio; Rand Paul; Jeb Bush; Lindsey Graham–did I leave out any of their favorites?)? I think that ANY/ALL delegates that the 4 mentioned-although I think only Rubio & Bush got any, were from caucasus not primaries.
The NR has gone steadily downhill, my view, in years. They probably (with the views of some of the right) would not support Barry Goldwater today (if he were, obviously alive); with his views.
They, like Kristol and some of the no-cons- all for wars- as long as their sons, and daughters, and nieces and nephews and other family members don’t have to go.
Back when George W Bush was pres., there was a Rep. meeting in NYC-of high school, college and graduate college students. Great percentages (in interviews) pro Iraq War. When asked- would they enlist- great percentages—NO. Can ” make a greater contribution by ——————————–” ( fill in the blank).
Someone (might have been Eisenhower, not sure) said that the leaders least likely to start wars are those who have been in combat, or commanded those in combat.
The NR sucks.
And, the people (between Trump and Sanders) are saying many of the labels do not matter- show us some ideas. The establishments are Siamese twins. And they are garbage.
My rant for the early afternoon.
August West says
NR has totally jumped the shark and has become largely irrelevant.
The articles generally claim to be conservative but really echo establishment talking points in many cases.
McCarthy seems to be the only one that understands Islam and is the only contributor that adds value.
As with many other things, the 2016 election has exposed the fact that NR has “jumped the shark ”
If you subscribe then I suggest that you cancel.
Buckley is dead and so is the NR. Stick
a fork in it. It’s done.
Oliver says
Mr. West–I don’t subscribe.
I stopped reading it when ( combined) Buckley was dead and they turned (or, at least did not support) Pres. Nixon.
I don’t even read it in the library, while waiting.
I agree- the NR, like the neo-cons are 100% for themselves and their wallets. KA The Political Establishment AKA The Swamp(s)
Mac-101 says
Exactly. THEY are the enemy as much as the Neo Bolsheviks since THEY are in the City Walls and Traitors to everything THEY expose to believe!

I liked it.

It’s time to end the power of that sick cult in our countries !
GO TRUMP !
Stan Lee says
NR is now a “has been” operation. It was in disagreement with Trump from the very beginning. He was not the stereotypical Republican NR had in mind. Thankfully, enough people saw through the choices of NR plus leftists and supported Trump.
He was right about the Obama regime piling non-vetted Muslims into our country. If Obama had his way, he would have hordes of these maladjusted people in our country and we needed none of that. Germany, France, Sweden, and the UK are the results of liberal importation of these people. And, those nations are still abiding by “political correctness” and cutting their own throats while helpless because of PC.
Trump had the people behind him, because he is no P.C. advocate and the people of the USA have agreed with his stand on immigration. He is the President our country needed after major disappointment with Obama, who turned out to be an extraordinary liar.
Angemon says
Too little, too late.
Carolyne says
It is not an acceptable price for compassion. Where Is the compassion for those who will be killed by Muslims? No director of NR will be hurt because of your plush, protected life, but some gay man having a drink in a nightclub might be killed by one of those savages. I guess that’s an acceptable loss to the people at NR. It is not to most compassionate Americans.
Idania says
According to history ancient and actual, no civilized country should admit Muslim immigration. The Middle East is big enough to kept them in. More than 50 Muslims countries, they are immigrating west just because of the freebies.
Their intention openly, they don’t hide to said, is to control the countries where they emigrate.
The leftist globalist want to impose them on us. What I don’t know is what their reason is,.
Westman says
The liberals are delusionists who have never sacrificed for anyone they didn’t know. They think that if they give away your earned resources to the rest of the world and make you comply to their “doctrine” there will be harmony and peace everafter.
Excessive liberalism is a false religion, like communism. Its adherents don’t realize there are billions of humans only too willing to take what they have, and in return, kill them. They may be able to escape reality for a while, but cannot escape the eventual results of avoiding reality.
Trump’s election should have jolted them into the reality that they have gone too far in tearing down the nation, its citizens, and promoting hatred of America. Some are still unaware that “Nationlash” is on its way from the “deplorables” and, more importantly, from all segments of society that formerly voted for Obama.
Islam the religion of killers says
Why can’t they emigrate to Saudi Arabia ??
They have the real estate
the language
the religion
the money
What else do they need ??

Oliver says
The Saudis don’t want them.
Nor does Kuwait
One of kuwait’s officials was blunt
If I recall correctly. He referred to them as garbage. Or similiar sentiments
gravenimage says
NR then: Muslim immigration ban “religious scapegoating.” NR now: “Time for Honest Talk about Muslim Immigration.”
…………………..
Yes, this is disgusting and weak–but still, they *are* talking about it. I’m hoping that the Trump presidency will enable a *lot* of formally taboo issues regarding the threat of Islam to finally get discussed.
mortimer says
Reform of immigration? Why? Let’s just bring in more people who believe the following are eternal commands:
K.9.29 Fight them that believe not
K.9.73 Strive hard against unbelievers
K.9.123 Fight unbelievers that are near to you
Hadith 129.36.22 I have been commanded to fight the people until they bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped by Allah and that Mohammed is the Messenger of Allah.

It seems Spencer got it right eight years ago.
Eric Jones says
Screening persons by regious belief has been done before when it is known that a religious belief justifies a bellergants actions. In 1945 MacArthur banned Shinto from public schools and political life during the occupation of japan after WWII.
