Prince Charles urges Brits at Christmas to remember “when the prophet Muhammad migrated from Mecca to Medina”

According to Islamic tradition, when Muhammad migrated from Mecca to Medina, he wasn’t just “seeking the freedom for himself and his followers to worship.” He became at that point for the first time a political and military leader as well as a religious one. He began for the first time to get Qur’anic “revelations” exhorting Muslims to wage war against unbelievers.

Just as Charles is ignoring the historical context and circumstances of Muhammad’s hijrah, so now he is also ignoring the manifest fact that all too many Muslim migrants are not “seeking the freedom…to worship,” but are coming to Europe to conquer and Islamize the land, emigrating, after Muhammad’s pattern, “for the sake of Allah” (cf. Qur’an 4:100).

Charles also says: “We are now seeing the rise of many populist groups across the world that are increasingly aggressive towards those who adhere to a minority faith.” This is the familiar “Muslims are the new Jews” theme. This is a common Leftist talking point. Many, many others have made this claim before Chomsky, including Noam Chomsky; Bernie Sanders; the notorious non-Muslim Islamic apologist Karen Armstrong; Jeffrey Goldberg, the journalist at The Atlantic who some time ago interviewed Barack Obama about why he won’t call Islamic terrorism Islamic; liberal media pundit Reza Aslan; Muslim Brotherhood-linked Congressman Keith Ellison; Nicholas Kristof, one of the New York Times’ Mideast pontificators; Canadian Muslim leader Syed Sohawardy; and Philadelphia chapter leader of the Council on American-Islamic Relations Jacob Bender. Many others have repeated it.

The idea that Muslims are the new Jews is put forward by the Left, but it also has opponents on the Left. In 2014, as part of his ongoing awakening to the nature and reality of the jihad threat, Bill Maher noted:

Jews weren’t oppressing anybody. There weren’t 5,000 militant Jewish groups. They didn’t do a study of treatment of women around the world and find that Jews were at the bottom of it. There weren’t 10 Jewish countries in the world that were putting gay people to death just for being gay.

Indeed. Further, no one is calling for or justifying genocide of Muslims. No individual or group opposed to Islam is remotely comparable to the National Socialists. Not that facts have ever gotten in the way of a good meme.

Maher isn’t alone on the Left in having pointed out the absurdity of likening opposition to jihad to the lead-up to the Holocaust. The late Christopher Hitchens also refuted this idea when writing a few years ago about the notorious Ground Zero Mosque proposal:

“Some of what people are saying in this mosque controversy is very similar to what German media was saying about Jews in the 1920s and 1930s,” Imam Abdullah Antepli, Muslim chaplain at Duke University, told the New York Times. Yes, we all recall the Jewish suicide bombers of that period, as we recall the Jewish yells for holy war, the Jewish demands for the veiling of women and the stoning of homosexuals, and the Jewish burning of newspapers that published cartoons they did not like.

“Prince Charles Urges Brits To Think Of Muhammad This Christmas, Speaks Out Against ‘Aggressive Populism,’” Breitbart London, December 22, 2016:

Britain’s Prince of Wales has spoken out on national radio in an appeal for persecuted Christians and minorities across the world, but the Royal also moved to criticise “populist groups”.

Speaking on Thought for the Day, a short early morning slot on BBC Radio 4 dedicated to faith issues, the son of Britain’s reigning Monarch urged listeners to think of persecuted religious figures — singling out Jesus Christ and Muhammad — this Christmas. He said:

Normally at Christmas we think of the Birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. I wonder though if this year we might remember how the story of the nativity unfolds, with the fleeing of the holy family to escape violent persecution. And we might also remember that when the prophet Muhammad migrated from Mecca to Medina he was seeking the freedom for himself and his followers to worship.

Whichever religious path we follow, the destination is the same – to value and respect the other person, accepting their right to live out their peaceful response to the love of God.

The future King spent much of his short radio appearance discussing the persecution of Christians without going so far as to name the main source of this persecution — radical Islam. Referring to “insidious forms of extremism… which aim to eliminate all types of religious diversity”, the Prince also mentioned the Yazidis who are coming under extreme persecution from Islamic State, Jews who have been leaving Europe in record numbers to escape Islamist persecution, and the Muslim Ahmadis who are treated as apostates by many mainstream Muslims.

Speaking of his recent interactions with persecuted Christians, Prince Charles said:

In London recently I met a Jesuit protest from Syria…. He told me of mass kidnappings in parts of Syria and Iraq and how he feared that Christians would be driven en masse from the lands described in the Bible. He thought it quite possible there would be no Christians in Iraq in five years.

While he was speaking to promote the receiving of asylum seekers into Europe, the Prince also criticised what he called “populist” movements. Britain’s Guardian newspaper claimed of the comments: “His address will be seen by some as a veiled reference to the election of Donald Trump in the US, the rise of the far right in Europe, and increasingly hostile attitudes to refugees in the UK”.

The Prince said, implying a relationship between Europe’s growing pro-borders movement with European Fascism of the last century:

We are now seeing the rise of many populist groups across the world that are increasingly aggressive towards those who adhere to a minority faith. All of this has deeply disturbing echoes of the dark days of the 1930s.

I was born in 1948, just after the end of World War Two, in which my parents’ generation had fought and died in a battle against intolerance, monstrous extremism and an inhuman attempt to exterminate the Jewish population of Europe.

That nearly 70 years later we should still be seeing such evil persecution is, to me, beyond all belief. We owe it to those who suffered and died so horribly not to repeat the horrors of the past….

Many years ago he declared that he would be ‘Defender of Faiths’ (rather than ‘The Faith’, aka the C of E) when (?!) he ascended to the throne, so it’s clear that he doesn’t seem to appreciate that there might be subtle differences between all the different creeds. God only knows what they taught him at Cambridge. Assuming he learned anything.

    • I think he knows what he’s doing. He’s capitulating to a force we haven’t yet figured out how to properly vanquish. We need to wake up. We need to get tough very quickly and demand that we own our land and we’re not going to tolerate anymore of this invasion and manipulation.       • A Harris – You’re absolutely right. As I understand it (and this is kind of vague general knowledge to me) the queen (or king) is the head of the Church of England. That is her/his major role! England, unlike us, has a state religion, but the government, Parliament, which has no say nor obligation to the Church of England. So, realistically and politically, the Church and the State are separate. This guy Charles has always annoyed me, so I like calling him a roaring tit-head. But just now, I think I prefer to call him a wanker.

    • l’ve never heard of Tabari before, but l looked him up and he seems interesting. He’s written a 40 volume history about lslam. l downloaded the free ebook version.
      Apparently, some muslim reviewers think the translations might not be authentic probably because there are anti-islamic statements – like those you quote. That’s gotta be a plus in my book lol.

    I am sorry to say that Muslims will not recognize you as king(Not because they are Republican, being anti-monarchical today is logical, Muslims are not Republicans, monarchists … they are Muslims) if you are not the prince of believers.
    In Alandalus there was what the natives (non-Muslims) called “miramamolin”. For example the king of morocco is the current miramamolin, they do not respect him for being king, they respect him for being the miramamolin. Charles, or you become Muslim or the Muslims will cut off your head sooner or later, you or your descendants. Muslims do not accept a non-Islamic authority and less one who claims to be king, heir to Christian kings.

    • As the reigning monarch, and Head of the Church, one of the Queen’s titles is “Defender of Faith”. This title has been one of the subsidiary titles of the English and later British monarchs since it was granted on 11 October 1521 by Pope Leo X to King Henry VIII of England.
      Prince Charles, if and when he becomes monarch, has already stated that his title will be “Defender of FAITHS”, not Faith.

  18. This is the full text. I bolded what I thought were the important bits for my own interest but I don’t think they’ll show up (don’t know how other people do it). He is completely refusing to distinguish the victims from the victimisers in all this. Imagine his version of the parable of the Good Samaritan. The robbers and the traveller would be presented as equal victims, possibly of the Samaritan:

    • Hold on – I think that if you read the speech, you see that he IN ESSENCE is calling for attention on the persecution of CHRISTIANS, and that, because THEY are the religious minority in the Middle East, he is likening THEIR persecution to what happened to the Jews,

      – That is what I read, anyway.

      The only problem is, that he of course isn’t allowed to

      1. Name Islam (and therefore) muslims as the persecutors,

      and

      2. ONLY focus on Christians as being the victims. – Somehow, he has to spin in the “muslims are victims too” narrative, – in this case by naming Mohammad who “had to flee Mecca”.

      I actually do think his speech is an attempt to communicate the truth, but that he is limiting himself by abiding by the above taboos.

      • The fact that he mentioned “muhammad/mecca/medina” AT ALL is what’s important here, and it has completely eclipsed the “ESSENCE”, as you put it, of his lil’ talk to the Brits.

      • Wait a minute… Mockingjay may have a point.

        As a member of the royal family he feels he must tread carefully in regard to the various groups that live in the UK because he mustn’t be seen to single out and persecute a minority group, including a dangerous group like Muslims. He put emphasis, first, on the persecution of Christians and the other groups that are known to be the victims of Islam today, and then addressed the rise of “populist” groups who have turned against Islam… It may well be that he’s trying there to both urge non-Muslims not to harass or seek or do violence against the Muslims in their midst AND to remind MUSLIMS that their own brothers and sisters in Islam are murderously persecuting non-Muslims, and that Muhammad was once a refugee seeking the freedom to worship. So *everybody stop it!*

        But the problem is that hard-core Muslims know and embrace the whole story of Muhammad. They know that the hijrah was the beginning of Muslim raids on caravans and of preparations to wage jihad to spread the faith (and get vengeance against those who had rejected Muhammad and made fun of Islam). They know that Islam is the ONLY kind of worship that Allah accepts, and that they are commanded to subjugate those who practice any other form of worship. So trying to guilt them into playing nice will have no effect. Only the lukewarm Muslims will accept equivalence of status between Islam and other religions.

        As to the “populist groups” pushing back against Islam in their midst – those are inevitable when a government has the stupidity to bring in hundreds of thousands of people from a hostile religion and culture whose role model commanded them to wage war against unbelievers until all the world was under the rule of Islamic law. As the fully dedicated Muslims make more and more demands, are given more and more accommodation, as the threat of terrorism hangs in the air if their demands aren’t met, and reports of actual terrorism and sexual assault come to light, more Westerners will become convinced that mass migration of Muslims was a stupid, suicidal thing.

        And thus there will be “populist groups” who demand a remedy. Some will make reasonable demands, some will be too angry and desperate for that.

        All of this was foreseeable 30 years ago to anyone who has studied Islam and Islamic history. If you know the religion and the history and you hear the statements of Islam’s present day religious and political movements and see their actions worldwide, you cannot believe that massive migration of Muslims to free countries (or to any countries) is a good idea. But it seems that most religious and political leaders are not very thoughtful or honest scholars and don’t like to think about logical consequences.

        • When I said “All of this was foreseeable 30 years ago”, I didn’t mean that the mass migration and the capitulation of Western leaders to Islam was foreseeable that long ago. I meant given the tenets of Islam, its history, and the religious/political movements active at the time, the attempt of purist Muslims to subjugate unbelieving cultures was clearly the coming thing. Even back then a knowledgeable person would have been able to see what would happen if huge numbers of Muslims were brought into a non-Muslim region.

        • A thoughtful post from the Buffster (and Mockingjay). Charles came out with something similar a year or two ago highlighting the plight of Christians in M.E. with the message “everybody play nice…please”. I am not completely sure whether he is being diplomatic or deluded about the hijrah and the populist groups persecuting poor immigrants. I’d give 4 to 1 on deluded though.

  19. But what Prince Charles fails to mention is that Mohammed and his followers then conquered Mecca and Medina and denied freedom of worship to those they conquered. Then they went on to a series of conquests and again denied freedom of worship to those they conquered.
