Turkey jails American Christian pastor on “terrorism” allegations

Dec 13, 2016 12:11 pm By Robert Spencer

Non-Muslims are in an increasingly precarious position in rapidly re-Islamizing Turkey. While august institutions and government bodies wring their hands over “Islamophobia,” the Muslim persecution of Christians continues apace, and the persecutors are growing bolder and more aggressive in the face of the prevailing international indifference.

“UPDATE: Turkey jails US pastor on ‘terrorism’ allegations,” by Barbara G. Baker, World Watch Monitor, December 9, 2016:

A Turkish judge sent Rev. Andrew Brunson to prison in Izmir today, 64 days after the US pastor and his wife, Norine, were detained on 7 Oct. under Interior Ministry deportation orders.

Although his wife was released on 19 Oct. and given an extended permit to remain in the country, Andrew Brunson has been held since 20 Oct. at the Harmandali Detention Centre on the northern edge of Izmir.

The 48-year-old was transferred overnight on 8 Dec. to a counter-terrorism centre, before being brought before an Izmir court today (9 Dec.) for interrogation.

The American Protestant heard today for the first time the allegations filed against him, which apparently prompted his arrest and lengthy detention. According to the officiating judge, the “terrorism” charges came from a “secret informant”. The court ruled that the files on Brunson’s case would continue to remain inaccessible to his lawyer, who had not been allowed to meet him until today’s hearing.

Brunson’s lawyer has confirmed that the court document released at the hearing charged her US client with “membership in an armed terrorist organisation”. The judge specifically mentioned allegations that the pastor had links with the Fetullah Gulen movement, which is accused by Ankara of instigating a failed military coup against the Turkish government on 15 July. The pastor is now incarcerated at Izmir’s Sakran 3 Nolu T Tipi Prison.

In a wide-ranging crackdown to identify and prosecute the suspected coup plotters and their sympathisers, with the intention to prosecute them as “terrorists”, the Turkish authorities have suspended or jailed tens of thousands of judges, prosecutors, military personnel, journalists and educators on terrorism charges over the past five months….

Yes, but Erdogan said that unless the Turks get visas to go travel to the EU by Christmas (12 million men said they wanted to go to the EU to work) he would go back on his hudna and allow the migrants he had been paid 3 Billion Euros to keep in Turkey to travel there again. Thus the dawa, hijrah and firna will continue.
Only a deep repentance and an outpouring of the Holy Spirit will save us. May the Turks also see visions and dream dreams of the Jesus of the Bible as they are in parts of the M E.

Let’s not forget a few simple facts: the EU give Turkey 3 billion euros a year; the Brits OWN the Mediterranean and have done for 200 years; we don’t need Turkey in NATO; the only reason all these ‘immigrants’ get across the med is because we are too wimpish to stop them. Their main ‘enemy’ is Greece, the font of European civilisation. Without EU and American money they would be on a par with Haiti.

The Turks are on their way to an Islamic dictatorship, and fast.. All western nations, including the US needs to pull funds from Turkey, and stop propping up Erdogan, and stop travel to Turkey, and just let them fester in their Erdogan filth….UNTIL the principals of Attaturk are again put in place!! They have a Syria in the making there if we continue to prop up the regime in power in Turkey. The Christians in Turkey have been in grave danger, for several years now.. Let them immigrate to Christian nations, and keep crazy Muslims in the ME!!!

The Turks threatning to unleash the refugees if they don’t get European entry by passport, is such a pile of lies ..

if they get their passport status changed, all they will do is issue Turk passports to the refugees and they will be legally in, it’s the same as if they issued European passports direct,, I hope the idiots running the EU can figure this out.

Erdogan will be the hero from Mecca if he manages to kick off that avalanche ..

I hope they get booted out of NATO, they need to be booted out of NATO,

Trump really is the saviour of the free world, USA pulling out of the United Nations will set the ball rolling, so I hope it gets done sooner than later ..

It’s no real wonder that the Turkish authorities would be suspicious that a Christian pastor would engage in subversive activities a,d thus taking part in “terrorism.” After all the many years the imams in the mosques in Turkey speaking in many derogatory way about Christians and the “evil influences” Christians can have. So much so the many Muslims get all worked up against Christians and Christian teachings and some those Muslims commit violent actions against Christians. Such false religious teachers, as those Muslim clerics, who speak to people unfounded and invalid evil things about Christians and Christian doctrines have been described in the Bible. For the Bible informs the reader in Second Peter 2:12. “They speak evil of things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption.” [N.K.J.V.]
It also should be make clear that in this specific above Bible verse, as well as in John 3:16. The word “Perish” does not mean loss of being but loss of well-being. As in going to ruin by ending up in languishing in torment in a terrible place of suffering that the Bible calls hell. Luke 16:19-31.

The reasons for going to war do matter and in fact are the only things that do matter when confronted with false imprisonment, assault and violence.
The Fetullah Gulen’s reason for an attempted coup was to keep Turkey secular and from falling onto the bottomless depths of Islamic rule. The very notion of Islam as a nation under shariah law is false imprisonment of its people from cradle to grave.
Our right to chose is always under attack, always has been and always will be, there has never been a time when it is not.

  10. SAKOVKT says

    Dec 13, 2016 at 7:31 pm

I’m not sure that Western Leaders are really indifferent or willfully blind so much as their policy may be part of a deliberate political warfare scheme aimed changing beliefs.

It’s impossible that no one in either the Bush or Obama administrations ever looked at a Koran or might even acknowledge (privately) that everything Robert Spencer says is true.

I’m no expert in the RAND systems analysis approach but, insurgencies are simple.

The cause or, per Clausewitz, the will, is all of it.

Sebastian Gorka and Michael Jenkins (RAND) are aware of this.(Who wouldn’t be?)

The majority of Muslims aren’t violent.

A gov’t program constructed with the right deterrents and incentives, then, changes Islam so that the Peaceful Muslims got it right and the Jihadis are the hypocrites destined for hell.

Change Islam into the “Peaceful Islam” belief system, and terrorism disappears. Viola!

This was Petreous’ COIN : “winning hearts and minds”

Hillary Clinton betrayed that sort of thinking when she said that people who believe in traditional marriage are just going to have to change their beliefs, just like it’s all that easy.

Well, if you’re social scientist employed by someone like RAND, it better be that easy, because that’s what they pay you for.

If that’s the strategy, then CAIR, ISNA or Muslim Brotherhood are actually your allies because they’re saying the same thing, however insincerely doesn’t matter.

Propaganda is all a matter of words. The more words, the more the belief spreads.

“Islamophobia” is even better. How can victims be perpetrators of violence?

Letting more Muslims into America allows us to indoctrinate them with the “true Islam of peace”.

Obama parrots some of Jenkins ideas :

We have nothing to fear. We’re more likely to get in a car accident than a terrorist attack
Our strength is in our open society values, not walls or torture.

Jenkins does go on to examine the Islamic rhetoric of bin Laden and draws the connection more
strongly than Obama but not so much as Spencer.

You can find Jenkins “Unconquerable Nation” at the RAND website, free PDF.
Jenkins is no slouch and neither is Gorka.

But, you can see that Obama’s ideas aren’t his own and he’s not telling all of it or even doing all of what Jenkins suggests.

He’s parsing from typical gov’t consultants and, my guess, is that there is a plan behind this ostensible indifference, although it’s obviously not a very good one.

Jenkins tells us that we’re in for a long war, writing in 2006.

I think it’s been long enough since 9/11.

‘Soldiers of Reason” Alex Abella, is a great history of RAND since in creation to today : pretty objective,

It was RAND that botched Viet Nam but also RAND that provided Reagan with an economic strategy to bring down the USSR.

In the fog of war, RAND has had its hits and misses, like anyone else.

What’s good about Abella is that you get a feel for how high policy is arrived at and that, in regards to the Jihad, it’s really not any different.

    Hits and Misses.

Love or hate RAND, they are major policy makers.

Donald Trump pulling in people not connected to the traditional consultant-gov’t policy-academic merry go round definitely appears the right thing, at this particular point.

It was actually the social sciences division of RAND that got Viet Nam more wrong than any of the rest of them.

Even Jenkins admits that America has never been very good at political warfare.
