Wilders found guilty of “hate speech,” tells judges “truth and liberty are stronger than you”

This conviction is part of the ongoing attempt by the Left to criminalize dissent from their globalist, multicultural agenda.

He and his friends among the political elites may find that backfiring on them.

“Anti-Islam Dutch MP Geert Wilders found guilty of hate speech,” by Senay Boztas, Telegraph, December 9, 2016:

Dutch far-right wing politician Geert Wilders was today found guilty of hate speech and inciting racial discrimination for leading a chant calling for “fewer, fewer” Moroccans in the Netherlands.

Presiding Judge Hendrik Steenhuis said the court would not impose a sentence because the conviction was punishment enough for a democratically elected lawmaker. Prosecutors had asked judges to fine him 5,000 euros ($5,300).

Wilders, head of the PVV Freedom Party, was not present to hear the judgement but his lawyer Geert-Jan Knoops immediately issued a statement to say that he would appeal.

The case was based on almost 6,500 official complaints after Wilders led a party rally during a local election campaign in The Hague in March 2014, asking whether there should be “more or fewer Moroccans in the Netherlands.”

The crowd’s response of “fewer, fewer”, was clearly organised, said a judge at the secure court at Schiphol Judicial Complex, near Amsterdam, ruling that Wilders had breached the boundaries of even a politician’s freedom of speech.

“It doesn’t matter that Wilders gave another message afterwards [saying he was referring only to criminal Moroccans and benefits claimants],” said the judge. “The message that evening from the podium, via the media, was loud and proud and did its work…The group was collectively dismissed as inferior to other Dutch people.”

Wilders said, in a statement in English posted on his YouTube channel, “I still cannot believe it, but I have been convicted because I asked a question about Moroccans. The Netherlands has become a sick country. The judge who convicted me [has] restricted the freedom of speech for millions of Dutch. I will never be silent. I am not a racist and neither are my voters.”

The politician did not attend the judgement or most of the process, apart from to give his “last word” at the end of hearings, also called it a “kangaroo court”, tweeting about the judges and hearings.

In court, the judge called his behaviour “unworthy” of a politician, and said there was no question that the case was political, as Wilders claimed.

The case, which has taken 20 months to reach a verdict, comes three months before Dutch general elections and Wilders’ PVV is currently leading in some polls….

  6. Who will be persuaded by this shallow “conviction”? Those who support it had already made up their minds. Will those citizens quietly on the sidelines ask themselves “Could this not happen to me?”. “If I were to say something even less, would I, with no resources to resist, be punished more?”. I hope this sad but dangerous political action, masquerading as “law”, will be understood as such by the majority of honest citizens in the Netherlands who will reflect it in their votes.

    The elitists in my country convinced themselves that had it all sewn up for Hillary, they shamed, ignored and disregarded the “uneducated” citizen rubes outside of their elitist echo chambers. They believed their own lies and propaganda. They lost.

    • This is not over yet. Wilders was not convicted with Dutch laws. In the Netherlands we, and many other European countries, have made laws after the WWII catastrophy to prevent parties like Hitlers’ NSDAP, Mussolini’s facists etc. to get a foothold again. Maybe a mistake and the American approach of very strong free speech rights is better. What happened though is the European union did stretch the criteria. Wilders was convicted by “European law”.

      This is very intimidating indeed. I can feel it right now. Will they come for me too? Can i say on my website i want less Muslims in my country because Islam is dangerous?

      Wilders is going to appeal but if he looses i am not sure what i am going to do with my site. Paul Cliteur warned of this effect but he was ignored.

    Perhaps this video will be a separate topic, but I would encourage all to listen to Geert Wilders’ response to his conviction. I think it is amazing and one of the best speeches for freedom that I have heard in a long long time.

  10. So now the Dutch people have allowed their fundamental constitutional rights to be taken away without a whimper of protest, and a kangaroo court has surrendered what was left of judicial independence.

    All this was done to smear a brave warrior against Islamic subjugation of their country at the behest of dark forces in the administration and the establishment parties who feel threatened by the rise of Wilders’ Freedom Party PVV.

    Like many politicians, the judges feel more comfortable on their knees than on their feet.

    As Wilders pointed out, one of the “judges,” Mrs. van Rens, had publicly criticized his party’s positions prior to the trial and was obviously prejudiced and should have recused herself (or been asked to do so by the panel had it had any integrity).

    One takeaway from this trial: Always include the “criminal” qualifier in your criticism of Islam, according to the Judges this would have made his comments acceptable. It will always be an accurate description because Islamic jihad is a criminal enterprise. Death threats and traitorous attempts to replace our legal system with Sharia are in fact illegal.

In other words, this was not about him breaking the law or not – in what world can someone be convicted of breaking a law and not be given a sentence or punishment? – it was about denigrating him. Branding him, if you prefer. Identifying him as a “wrong-thinker”. I hope Mr. Wilders can appeal.

    Their ‘conviction’ of Wilders brings out a million voices of support; see the comments here alone! There are and will be more reports on the reality of this trial and conviction; fascistic leftists can desperately call “raycist” and “fake news” all the live long day.     • Exactly what did Trump say about Muslims? He said he wanted to restrict immigration of Muslims. That is not hate speech. That was a matter of practicality, because among Muslims there are always a few jihadists – as you must be well aware. Then he also criticized Islam. Specifically, he said “Islam hates us”. I’m sure you can’t complain about that, because it is absolutely plain as day in the Quran that Islam hates Christians and Jews and every kind of infidel.     • Ibrahim – you are deceived. Christianity is absolutely a nonviolent religion. Christ never told ANYONE to wage war. He was a man of peace, love, and humility. He was a man who taught us to love one another. He is a man who taught us to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. There is absolutely no doubt about this, as his teachings are available in the New Testament, which was recorded beginning within 60 years of his death from multiple sources. In comparison, the Quran wasn’t written down until 200 years passed since the death of Muhammad. There is also no historical evidence for the existence of Muhammad until some 160 years after his death. Even then, there are no alternate sources.

      Anyhow, since the Dawn of Time, there have been wars waged for wealth and power, and even for self defense. While Christians – that is – followers of Christ – never waged war against anyone, kings and monarchs and even popes have waged war for the same reasons stated above.

    I have read the Bible in it’s entirety, and you are completely wrong! The fact that you misinterpreted it just goes to show you that others with evil intentions try to interpret it as they wish.

    Jesus is known for His teaching on love, compassion, forgiveness, and “not to return evil for evil” But we find Jesus advising the disciples to buy a sword in Luke 22:36: “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.” Jesus told the disciples to buy a sword, and it is clear that Jesus advocated the use of a sword for self-defense purposes.

    Jesus tells the disciples to buy a sword if he has none vs.38 they showed they had two, he said this is enough. So he is not telling them to arm themselves, lest they trust in man and not God. The “sword” that is used is a dagger or short sword that was part of the Jews traveler’s equipment for protection against robbers and wild animals. A plain reading of the passage indicates that Jesus approved of conditional self-defense. These were small daggers to protect someone from the criminals they would encounter as they traveled, they were used for close combat, for self defense, they were also to use against a wild animal.

    When Jesus was being arrested Peter stepped forward to protect him and cut off the ear of the servant (Malchus) of the high priest. We have Jesus reacting, stating that “whoever lives by the sword will die by the sword.”

    Anyone can do anything “in the name of Jesus” but that doesn’t make it Christian – or a Christian action. It is said the Crusades was a war in the name of Christ, but Christ never commanded such a war – AND YOU KNOW IT! The Crusades were a belated defensive action against Muslims who had invaded Christian lands. Remember that! Yes they were bloody, but then so was the original invasion by the Muslim hordes.

    I have been trying to say – there are all kinds of ambitious, ruthless people in this world. If they take up the mantle of Christian to do their evil, that doesn’t mean what they do is Christian. However, if they do something evil in the name of Muhammad, they are likely just carrying out one of his commandments to “kill the kafirs”.

    His judges should be convicted for refusing to discriminate (judge) between a religion, a race, and a global crime-gang, choosing in stead to pander to and enable the latter.

  39. It is a misconception that wilders is far right or even right. He is more of a socialist.
    This conviction is a very big mistake which may become costly.
    What he says can be morally repulsive but it is not illegal. Furthermore by law everyone must be treated equally and when Wilders is convicted on this remark justice will have its hand full convicting imams for hate speech.
