Farrah Marfatia is the principal of a Muslim academy in Mississauga, near Toronto, Ontario. She is teaching parents in her guide “To Talk To Your Muslim Child” that:
The Prophet [Mohammad] ﷺ told us that homosexuals are cursed by Allah as are the men who imitate or dress up like women.
The formal meaning of being cursed by Allah is stated in Lisān al-ʿArab (the Arab Tongue), aka “the most well-known dictionary of the Arabic language”:
Everyone whom Allah has cursed is far away from His mercy and deserves punishment, so he is doomed.
Also, a 2014 fatwa from the mainstream site OnIslam.net proclaimed that homosexuality is “abnormal” and abhorrent,” and confirmed that gays should be killed:
The punishment for men or women who are unwilling to give up homosexuality and therefore are rejecting the guidance of Allah Most High is in fact death according to Islam.
Death fatwas upon homosexuals are still pronounced in Islamic states and by other Muslim scholars who preach in the West. A mainstream imam in the backyard of the Pulse Nightclub commanded the merciful killing of gays “as an act of compassion,” not long before the jihad massacre.
Marfatia’s deceitful warnings in her guide about homosexuals being protected by Canadian law seem to be intended to protect herself from charges that she is inciting Muslims to violence. Yet as she teaches that homosexuals are “cursed by Allah,” she knows full well that Islamic law prescribes death for homosexuals, and that the Sharia principles that she is teaching about homosexuals are deemed to override all other laws:
The source of legal rulings for all acts of those who are morally responsible is Allah.” (a1.1, Umdat al-salik or The Reliance of the Traveller, commonly accepted work of
Shariah jurisprudence); “There is only one law which ought to be followed, and that is the Sharia.” (Seyed Qutb).
Farrah Marfatia, interestingly, happens to be one of the Muslims who united “with Muslim community leaders, educators, activists and concerned citizens” in a witch-hunt against a public school principal for alleged “Islamophobia.”
Marfatia was one of the signatories in an open letter to Ontario’s Ministry of Education that accused Ghada Sadaka, principal of Sir Wilfrid Laurier Public School in Markham, of “Islamophobia.” Sadaka had expressed her opinion in a factual way on her Facebook page. She ended up being made an example of what happens to so-called “Islamophobes” if they dare even voice rational opinions about Islamic supremacy. When Muslims ganged up to bully Sadaka, she was distressed enough to take a leave of absence, and issued an unwarranted apology.
So while Sadaka is harassed by Muslim groups for Facebook posts, Farrah Marfatia is getting away with providing a guide to parents that instructs them to teach their children that homosexuals are cursed by Allah, knowing full well what the implications of that are in her religion. What will the Ontario Ministry of Education do about that?
“Toronto principal: ‘Homosexuals are cursed by Allah’, LGBTQ ‘not permissible'”, by: Jonathan D. Halevi, CIJ News, January 15, 2017:
Farrah Marfatia, M.Ed. (Candidate), Honors B.Sc., RAQC, TESL, is the Principal of Maingate Islamic Academy who is “partnering with a number of Muslim organizations on community projects.”
On October 31, 2016, alongside with Muslim community leaders, educators, activists and concerned citizens, Farrah Marfatia signed an open letter to Mitzie Hunter, Ontario’s Minister of Education, that implicitly referred to the Islamophobia allegations against Ghada Sadaka, a principal of Sir Wilfrid Laurier Public School in Markham, ON (See in this regard “Are Ghada Sadaka’s Facebook posts “Islamophobic”, “discriminatory”? Click HERE). Among other things the open letter reads the following:
We join the parents who are deeply concerned about the mental and physical wellbeing of their children…As you are aware, the lack of transparency and accountability with regards to their investigation and any actions they may have undertaken to address the unprofessional and hateful statements was even profiled by various media outlets.
This is deeply troubling. This is especially disturbing when contextualized within the growing incidents of Islamophobia within society… All children, staff and teachers are entitled to a safe, inclusive & accepting school environment free from fear and hate.
A year earlier, Farrah Marfatia, authored a guide entitled “To Talk To Your Muslim Child” which provided parents with advice and tools to cope with topics in the Ontario Ministry of Education’s Health Education Curriculum (2015) also known as the sex-ed curriculum. The 1st Edition of the guide was edited by Sheikh Zahir Bacchus, Sheikh Omar Subedar, Imam Belal Ahmad, B.Ed., OCT, Omar Zia, B.Sc., B.Ed., M.Ed., OCT, Bushra Tobah, Ph.D. (candidate), M.Sc., B.Sc. And Rizwan Wadhera, B.Ed., B.A, OCT.
In an interview with the Toronto Star’s Noor Javed (September 7, 2015), Farrah Marfatia said that the guide was reviewed and approved by “counsellors and teachers in the public system” as well as Muslims community leaders. The following are excerpts from the interview:
As an Islamic school principal, private schools are not required to cover the curriculum. But there are a lot of Muslim kids in the public school system…And I was thinking about those parents — how do I help public school parents who have no other choice to understand the curriculum from their religious point of view?I reached out to guidance counsellors and teachers in the public system, and they reviewed it and gave it their stamp of approval. And then, from a religious perspective, I consulted with three imams. One of the imams is also a certified teacher. We had a number of meetings, and they gave me their views from a religious perspective. Overall, about 20 people reviewed it… I am so proud of our community leaders because they have backed it up, and see value in it.
The following are excerpts from the Farrah Marfatias guide “To Talk To Your Muslim Child”:
Grade 8
Pornography
Children are encouraged to avoid shows, cartoons, movies, and advertisements that allude, even subtly, to mixed gender relationships…
Dating and Liking the Opposite SexAs an Ummah, we must begin rethinking the notion that children need to grow up, finish school, obtain multiple degrees, have an excellent job and then get married. By that point, our youth have probably succumbed to a number of temptations given our pornographic society. Parents should consider getting their children married earlier which will ease this pressure. Youth will not have to stop their studies to do this. Remember, as a parent you will also be partly responsible if your son or daughter wanted to marry, you stopped them and they ended up having sex outside of marriage…
Sex and Reproduction
Sex is a beautiful, pleasurable, and permissible act only for those who are married.
Abstinence and Consent
From a religious point of view it is important that you begin talking to your child about abstaining from dating relationships and intercourse…
Sexual Orientation
In terms of Homosexuality, it is considered to be a sin in all major monotheistic religions including Islam. The Prophet [Mohammad] ﷺ told us that homosexuals are cursed by Allah as are the men who imitate or dress up like women. This must be communicated to your child in a way that is age appropriate bearing in mind that the rights of homosexuals are protected by law just as our rights to freedom of religion are as well.
For Grade 7 and 8 it can be discussed as follows:
In Islam only a man can marry a woman and only a woman can marry a man–we are not allowed to marry people of the same gender. When people engage in same-sex relationships they go against the natural disposition (fitrah) of human beings and are unable to reproduce.
Intersex and Transgender
Islam accepts intersex individuals because Allah created them anatomically that way and there is no sin on them for being this way…
Being transgender is not permissible in Islam because choosing to imitate the opposite sex in movements and speech is not permissible in Islam according to saheeh hadeeths [reliable narrations attributed to Mohammad]… for them there is no sin in Islam to be Intersex and there are clear rules and regulations to help them choose their correct sex. Islam accepts them. However, all other members of the LGBTQ community make a choice to ‘feel’ that way despite the fact that Allah did not create them that way. This is why it is not permissible…
