It is important to expose the establishment media, both large outlets and small, until it is universally known that these are not news outlets, but lying propagandists with an agenda. I was sent this article several weeks ago and was struck by this: “Norm Dyck attended an information session in Grande Prairie last year by controversial author Robert Spencer, who is a self-proclaimed expert on Islam. Spencer introduced his speech, according to Dyck, by showing footage of New York’s World Trade Center crumbling to the ground.”
The implication was that I was relying on some emotional appeal, a rabble-rouser stirring up trouble: “The connection was immediately made for us that Islam and the Muslim people where [sic] to be feared” said Norm Dyck.
I am a twentieth-century speaker. Anyone who peruses YouTube videos of my various talks around the U.S. (and in Europe, Israel and Australia, for that matter) will see that I never use PowerPoint, or film, or any audio-visual aids; I just speak. Usually I read a few things from the Qur’an. That’s it. So I was puzzled by this claim that when I spoke in Grand Prairie, Alberta, that I opened with video of the World Trade Center collapsing. I emailed the event organizer and asked him if he had shown such video before I arrived. He said he hadn’t, and would write a Letter to the Editor of the Daily Herald-Tribune, asking for a correction.
He did so. His letter is below. Not surprisingly, the Daily Herald-Tribune did not publish it or make any correction. Meanwhile, here is video of my talk in Grand Prairie last year. It begins with the introduction, while I am standing by (with my late great security man, Floyd Resnick, visible in the first few seconds of the video). Then I come up. No sign of any World Trade Center footage in either the introduction or the beginning of my speech.
“The first casualty is the truth,” eh, Mr. Dyck?
Of course, Svjetlana Mlinarevic of the Daily Herald-Tribune made no effort to contact me or the event organizer, or even to search out the YouTube video of the event, to see whether Norm Dyck was telling the truth. Why bother, when he confirmed the establishment propaganda line?
“A meeting of the faiths,” by Svjetlana Mlinarevic, Daily Herald-Tribune, February 2, 2017:
It was a meeting of two religions that wished to share their beliefs and open their minds to each other.
St. Paul’s United Church invited members of the Islamic Association of Grande Prairie and District (IAGPD) into their sanctuary on Wednesday to pray together, to share their experiences and fears, and to sing in unity….
Norm Dyck attended an information session in Grande Prairie last year by controversial author Robert Spencer, who is a self-proclaimed expert on Islam. Spencer introduced his speech, according to Dyck, by showing footage of New York’s World Trade Center crumbling to the ground.
“The connection was immediately made for us that Islam and the Muslim people where [sic] to be feared. This gentleman (another parishioner) talked about confronting falsity. That is extremely difficult. With a media predisposed to play on our fears (for) us and the others out there who are our enemy. The first casualty is the truth,” he said.
Dyck called on people searching for the truth to pursue it courageously regardless of where it takes them saying, “Truth denied, closes us from the light.”…
Here is the Grand Prairie event organizer’s letter to the Daily Herald Tribune, which the paper of course ignored. I present it unedited:
I think dialogue is important and as Norm Dyck emphasized that truth should be pursued. To clarify regarding the speaking engagement of Robert Spencer, there was no footage of world trade center’s crumbling, you can view the whole talk on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X36LSw7X5Bs. Robert has written many books on Islam and presents facts. As far as the suggestion that Islam is a religion of peace, that is a myth. It was said that radicalism, racism, terrorism and violence are not virtues of the Islamic faith, that is also a myth. There are peaceful Muslims to be sure, as there are in Grande Prairie, but when you are talking about the Ideology of Islam or it may be better described as Mohammadism, then questions should and must be asked. To understand the Ideology of Islam, the Quran and the Hadith’s and Sira of Mohammad are the norm. The leader of Islam was Mohammad. The Quran speaks of Mohammad as the great example 33:21, 68;4 and being that, Muslims must follow him. If Mohammad did it, said it, they are to emulate him. A historical summary of Mohammad shows him as a warlord, who killed, raped, terrorized, subjugated anyone who got in his way. He prescribed to what is called pedophilia. He married a girl Aisha at 6 years old and had sex with her when she was nine. Hadith and Sira 8:3309, 58;234,8:3311. That may have been common in the seventh century but not in the 21st century at least in Canada, US and other free nations. There have been over 30,000 Islamic terrorist attacks around the world since 9/11 www.thereligionofpeace.com. 270,000,000 killed in 1400 years of Jihad htpps://www.politicalislam.com/tears-of-jihad. Reliance of the Traveller is on Islamic Sacred Law, I would encourage everyone including politicians, judges to read this book.
Truthful and frank dialogue is needed before Canada finds itself like Europe, possibly living under Sharia Law. Unfortunately, we are 40 years behind in our conversation. As Norm said “Truth denied, closes us from the light”.
This letter could have stood a little editing and clarification of the citations, but its points are generally correct. They’re just not issues that the establishment propaganda media wants brought to light.

To us Fake News is LIES
jihad3tracker says
THE MOST TIME-SAVING WAY FOR US TO PUSH BACK AGAINST SUCH LIES IS TO SEND AN EMAIL TO THE “NEWS” SOURCE WITH ROBERT’S POST — ABOVE.
But — to actually get your remarks read (and not tossed immediately into the ignore bucket) be sure to make the subject line very neutral and vague. Something like “REACTION TO AN IMPORTANT ISSUE” would be appropriate bait.

THIS IS A CONTACT PATH FOR THE REPORTER: smlinarevic@postmedia.com
Insist on a REPLY to what you say in an email — please do not let her slide with the typical “ignore and they will go away” tactic.
You can also mention that further examination of her journalist ethics will be made — and if a pattern of lapses is found you would consider reporting such misconduct to news accreditation certifiers.

If you scroll right down to the bottom of the newspaper you will find links to both “Feedback” and “Letters to the Editor”. Maybe the editor would like to know about this since Svjetlana Mlinarevic is unlikely to tell her editor about her error.

Can these lying journalists be sued?
jihad3tracker says
Hello Lynne — NO, OUR FIRST AMENDMENT CORRECTLY PROTECTS BOTH THE TRUTH TELLERS AND THE LIARS.
That is why it is so important for all of us here, who read Robert Spencer’s posts, keep up a constant effort to let THE LEFTIST PRIVILEGE-GUILT NEWS WEBSITES IN AMERICA know that their seditious agenda will be called out and resisted.

Hello Lynne — NO, OUR FIRST AMENDMENT CORRECTLY PROTECTS BOTH THE TRUTH TELLERS AND THE LIARS.
—————————————————————————————————————————–
I’m certainly not a lawyer, but I don’t think this is quite right, jihad3tracker. Consider Hulk Hogan’s (performer name) winning lawsuit that bankrupted Gawker and the many wins against outlets such as the National Inquirer over the years. Libel and slander aren’t going to be protected if done in the public domain. I believe the deciding factor is to what extent such falsehoods damage the victim. So, for example, if it were shown that a news outlet like MNBC fabricated and falsified and publicly aired a video of Robert Spencer building gas chambers for Muslims or whoever, he could easily sue them into the ground.
The Daily Herald Tribune likely knew they didn’t walk over the line far enough to get sued, which is why they lied. Experienced editors at such media outlets can also be correctly called experienced liars.
jihad3tracker says
Hello Jay T — I am not a lawyer either, and appreciate you mentioning the Hulk Hogan victory against Gawker. But such instances are quite rare if my ancient fuzzy memory is accurate. I will do additional research about the history of libel, slander, defamation.
David Pimentel says
Canada does not have a “FIRST AMENDMENT”. It does however have a Charter of Rights, and you will note that those rights are not absolute. In other words, they may be abrogated if those in power can “justify” it.
This is yet another reason I left.
Lynne says
Thank you, David.

At this time Canada is on the verge of passing a law forbidding criticism of Islam. I think that Canadians who disapprove of Canada’s present course should move south and those in the US ho do not like Donald Trump, such as Meryl Streep, should move north. Then we will all be happy.
gravenimage says
A journalist or private citizen *can* be sued for libel–but it might be difficult to make the case that this rises to that level. And it would certainly be very expensive taking such a case to court.

Just one more piece of evidence that what President Trump has said about the MSM is quite true, that it, speaking in the aggregate, is a monument to mendacity.
I hate untruths. That’s why I despise Islam (among other reasons as well being lots of dead and maimed bodies, and aversion to music, beer and in tact females).
And it’s why, respecting the “mendacity matter,” I have come to despise the MSM.

I would suggest that Svjetlana Mlinarevic had a faulty memory from events a year ago and confused your talk with some video on YouTube. I do recall a video that opens like that.
In the article it is stated…
“IAGPD spokesman Mohammad Haidar shared that Islam is a religion of peace, that members of the Grande Prairie Islamic community were open to questions about their faith”
Well of course he would say it’s a “religion of peace”. Does anyone think he would tell the truth –
“Islam is a sick and twisted religion that is violent to the core” ? And of course they are “open to questions about their faith”. They tell you whatever you want to hear – with an extra coating of honey, even made to order if you like.
mortimer says
Norm Dyck would not know the names of Islam’s main foundational source texts, let alone know what is in them. So how is he equipped to discuss the complex subject of Islam. Clearly, he has no foundational information about Islam. He has not studied Islam’s jihad doctrine, misogyny doctrine, kafir doctrine, taqiyya doctrine, extortion doctrine, slavery doctrine, supremacy doctrine, opportunism doctrine, vigilantism doctrine, group think doctrine or ethnic cleansing doctrine.
How can Norm Dyck make fair comments without a strong knowledge of the above Islamic teachings. Clearly, Norm Dyck is GUESSING and MAKING UP FACTS.
This is inaccurate journalism and uninformed commentary.

Just a little correction: Muhammad engaged Aisha at 6 years old and consummated their marriage at 9 years old. He was not married to her at 9. This is per Aisha’s telling. Of course 9 is bad enough and being engaged to a 6 year old is bad even for those times. Thus 9 years old became acceptable and was repeated by Ayatollah Khomeini who became a leading figure to Muslims in the 1970s until his death in 1989.
marc says
Sahih al-Bukhari states that Aisha narrated that the Prophet married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old, and then she remained with him for nine years (i.e., till his death).Sahih al-Bukhari, 7:62:64

And how about the people outside the mosque where they preach to kill us, they can be prosecuted
for Islam hate and ” Islamophobia”? You ought to be “kidding”, I almost used a word which I don’t want to use, it is not my style. But this happens in Europe even more, I look at it and think, this can not be happening, but it is, I am on the wrong planet, in the wrong human race and in the wrong movie. The truth has not been told already for as long as the human race was created and after all those billions of years,it has not become any better Hopefully you can still have a nice day. I respect and even admire RS, however I find this piece to be an incredible overreach and not at all convincing of his argument that:
“It is important to expose the establishment media, both large outlets and small, until it is universally known that these are not news outlets, but lying propagandists with an agenda.”
Wow! A local paper relies on an (erroneous) source for an arts and culture page story and this supports the conclusion that all establishment media are lying propagandists! Dear Mr Spencer, while I can understand your ire with this seemingly podunk newspaper because it refused to print a correction, this hardy supports your thesis that all establishment media are lying propagandists. Gee whiz, try to rein in your hyperbole. Otherwise you lose credibility.
Darmanad says
P.S.
I just listened to first seconds of the video and RS states that the same audience had earlier that evening seen a video entitled “Islam:What the West needs to Know.” I would bet this video opened with the WTC attack.
This makes RS’s hyperbole even more absurd. It’s the kind of argument that will cause one to lose credibility.
jihad3tracker says
Robert has been trying for well more than a decade to get privilege-guilt print and electronic media to report FAIRLY AND NEUTRALLY on the subjugation and violence IN ISLAM’S SACRED TEXTS — the Qur’an, Hadith, and Sira.
I have been reading this blog, Jihad Watch, for about six years, and everything he writes has been accurate — without exaggeration — so your description of the event covered in this post as hyperbole is not considered by me as correct.
Carolyne says
Darmanad says that he :Would bet” that the prior film showed the World Trade Center destruction. He has no basis on which to say that other than his “Bet.” That is a prime example of “Fake news.”

Darmanad wrote: “I just listened to first seconds of the video and RS states that the same audience had earlier that evening seen a video entitled “Islam:What the West needs to Know.” I would bet this video opened with the WTC attack. No, Darmanad, it is you who lost credibility and your bet as well. Indeed, the video entitled, “Islam: What the West Needs to Know,” opens with the Islamic call to prayer — Adhan — which is “Allahu Akbar”. Following that, the news video clips of world leaders — Tony Blair, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton — calling Islam a religion of peace are presented, followed by a video of Lee Bigley speaking to a camera moments before being beheaded in Iraq in 2004.
The video is a 98-minute production, comprised of six parts, which presents, as its subtitle states, “An examination of Islam, Violence, and the Fate of the Non-Muslim World.” Nowhere in the video is there a picture, news clip or specific reference to the World Trade Center. Instead, the narrator and guest speakers — Abdullah Al-Araby, Walid Shoebat, Robert Spencer, Serge Trifkovic, and Bat Ye’or — address the continuity of Islamic violence throughout 1400 years and the Islamic texts which mandate that violence against non-Muslims.
You owe Robert Spencer an apology.

Establishment media lies yet again about Robert Spencer and the jihad threat
………………………
*Disgusting*.
And, of course, even if Robert Spencer or his host *had* shown footage of the WTC falling, the idea that this is somehow beyond the pale is ludicrous. It is indeed Islamic terrorists who were responsible for this atrocity, and subsequent history has shown that this was *far* from an isolated occurrence, to put it mildly.
Darmanad says
To Cecelia Ellis: OK. You win the bet. I trust your advice that the film shown prior to RS’s talk didn’t show footage of the WTC attack. But that post script was admittedly conjecture on my part and in no way undermines my principle substantive point.
My principle substantive point is that RS’s claim (” the establishment media, both large outlets and small,…. are not news outlets, but lying propagandists with an agenda” ) is not proven by this local paper’s failure to print a correction. How about replying to that? I owe no apology to Mr Spencer.
To RS:. You really want to double down on a patently silly argument, to wit, that the establishment media (however reasonably defined) are not news outlets, but are “lying” propagandists with an agenda? I can understand your frustration with uninformed reportage and even your anger with media outlets whose stubborn politically correctness prevents accurate analysis of Islam, sharia, jihad etc; however, when you try to bootstrap anecdotal incidents such as this local rag’s failure to print a correction as probative evidence that all establishment media are liars with agendas ( and what might those agendas be?), WITH ALL DUE RESPECT TO YOUR SCHOLARSHIP you lose credibility.
Hey, it won’t be long before YOU are establishment media!
common sense says
Unlike BHO the Clintons and so many others like lying Brian Williams, Robert Spencer (2 names that don’t belong in the same sentence) does his work here mostly on donation, what he makes through the Horowitz JW site and whatever his book sales manage.
Robert Spencer hardly has the reach, power and money that some lefty robot journalists have who in addition think they are morally and intellectually superior. I’ve not seen any evidence of Robert condescending anyone in his videos or articles. Political and debating barbs aside.
If something was reported incorrectly or if there was a differrence in opinion it’s a free country aint it? People make mistakes don”t we? I’m not saying Robert made one here.
Robert is involved in no scandals and obviously works tirelessly to bring us all this information about the global Jihad that is largely being freaking ignored.
Robert Spencer belongs back on the DHS advisory board and also could use a little more re assurance from us from time to time. So thank Robert and keep fighting the good fight!
Darmanad says
I do have great respect, even admiration, for RS. His writing is both scholarly and witty. However, he sometimes shoots himself in the foot. I can imagine that it must test one’s patience to often be the sole voice of reason in a sea of ignorance, but it doesn’t help his cause to engage in hyperbolic arguments concerning the so-called establishment media. Nor does he do himself or his cause any good by ridiculing, even demonizing, all those who simply have not yet learned about the derogation of civil and human rights inherent in Islam… something which is done far too often here.
