Georgetown prof Jonathan Brown responds to Robert Spencer’s acceptance of his debate challenge: “my God you’re ugly”

Several people informed me that Georgetown University Jonathan A. C. Brown delivered a lecture at Gonzaga University on January 30, in which Brown said that he would debate me anytime and boasted that he would mop the floor with me. On Twitter, I accepted his challenge. Here’s what happened:

Brown’s tactic here is clear. There are certain groups — neo-Nazis, the Ku Klux Klan, etc. — that are generally considered beyond the bounds of acceptable discourse. The Leftist/Islamic supremacist strategy is to behave as if those who speak honestly about the nature and magnitude of the jihad threat are on par with the KKK, neo-Nazis, etc., and consequently are not to be engaged on a rational basis, but dismissed rudely and contemptuously, in an attempt to convince people that those being treated with hatred and contempt are indeed hateful and contemptible.

This also frees them from any obligation to defend their views, and hides the fact that Brown, a convert to Islam and son-in-law of admitted jihad terror leader Sami al-Arian, and others like him are utterly intellectually bereft.

Such behavior is very common among Leftists and their Muslim allies. Islamic supremacist spokesmen in the U.S., including many who claim to be “moderate” and are lauded by the intelligentsia as wise, broad-minded, tolerant people who are busy building bridges of understanding between Muslims and non-Muslims, are all too often immature, arrogant, foul-mouthed creeps whose idea of a discussion is to hurl insults. The hate fairly oozes from their pores. There are many, many examples of this; Reza Aslan and Omid Safi stand out.

In this, Brown and his coreligionists are also imitating Muhammad, the man they believe to be an “excellent example” of conduct, as the Qur’an calls him (33:21).

Consider these hadiths (thanks to Sam Shamoun):

Ubayy b. Ka’b told that he heard God’s messenger say, “If anyone proudly asserts his descent in the manner of the pre-Islamic people, tell him to bite his father’s penis, and do not use a euphemism.” It is transmitted in Sarah [sic] as-sunna. (Mishkat Al Masabih, English Translation With Explanatory Notes By Dr. James Robson [Sh. Muhammad Ashraf Publishers, Booksellers & Exporters, Lahore, Pakistan, Reprinted 1994], Volume II, Book XXIV — General Behaviour, Chapter XIII. Boasting and Party-Spirit, p. 1021)

And:

“Then Urwah said: “Muhammad, tell me: if you extirpate your tribesmen, have you ever heard of any of the Arabs who destroyed his own race before you? And if the contrary comes to pass, by God I see both prominent people and rabble who are likely to flee and leave you.” Abu Bakr said, “Go suck the clitoris of al-Lat!” — al-Lat was the idol of Thaqif, which they used to worship — “Would we flee and leave him?” (The History of al-Tabari — The Victory of Islam, translated by Michael Fishbein [State University of New York Press (SUNY), Albany 1997], Volume VIII (8), p. 76)

And in the words of Abu Bakr As-Sideeq to ‘Urwah: “Suck Al-Lat’s clitoris!” — there is a permissibility of speaking plainly the name of the private parts if there is some benefit to be gained thereby, just as he [Muhammad] permitted a plain response to the one who made the claims of the Jahiliyyah (i.e. claims of tribal superiority), by saying: “Bite your father’s penis!”[3] And for every situation there is a (fitting) saying. Today, Jonathan A. C. Brown’s sixth-grade-playground behavior is what passes for academic discourse, at least at Georgetown University.

It reports that Brown defended rape without consent and that slavery is “all relative” and castrated slavemen and raped slave women were living the life of Reilly back in old Arabia compared to slavery in the New World.   3. I often wonder how these so-called academics behave in the classroom. How do they deal with those who dissent with their views? After all these people are not scholars or intellectuals. They are propagandists. A pity that fools like these have jobs for life.

    • Exactly. That’s why it’s so important to tape them at every opportunity (audio is good, video is better). There is a whole array of tools anyone can use today to videotape creeps like Brown without his even realizing it. Besides several apps for iPhone (check out “AudioMemos”) and Android, there are pens and even watches that can videotape (check on Amazon), and they’re not very expensive. Make it a practice of using them on a regular basis whenever you attend lectures by guys like this one. There is nothing like an incriminating video to demand their removal.

    • In UK Universities those who dissent with their views are threatened with low or no grades at all.

      This episode with Jonathan Brown is the most recent one in a slice of history when foolish organisms screwing around with Spencer, Geller (and the rest of our excellent corral) get public humiliating ass whippings.

  9. The reason Brown RUNS from debate is he knows that the immoral character of Mohammed cannot be defended.

    Mohammed is not a good role model. Much to the disappointment of Muslims, the five oldest and most trusted Islamic sources don’t portray Muhammad at all as a ‘superior being’ or even faintly ‘the mercy of God among mankind’. This reading of original Islamic books, often leads to loss of faith, because Mohammed is not what Muslims assumed.

    Islam’s original sources (the Sira and hadiths) reveal that Mohammed was a plagiarist, a con artist, a highwayman, a liar, an assassin, a pedophile, a shameless womanizer, a promiscuous, cheating husband, a rapist, an enslaver, a genocidal mass murderer, a desert pirate, a psychopathic warmonger, an anti-Semite, an intolerant bigot, a spineless coward, and a calculating, ruthless tyrant. This portrait is certainly not the character profile of the saintly founder of a true religion, but that of an amoral cultist and scheming politician.

    Brown knows he cannot defend Mohammed’s character and would lose any debate on this thesis.

        Prof Joseph Campbell called Mohammed “a little pitcher with big ears”.

He suggests that Spencer is ugly (as though that wins the case). Obviously, Jonathan considers himself the opposite of ugly. He thinks looks either win or lose an argument. Based on this display of poor logic, he can’t be a very good teacher. How could he be?

    Interesting points about how Muslims argue.

    This answers a question I had about a statement Jonathan made about early Christian scholarship. Jonathan asserted that Muslim scholars were far more prolific than their Christian counterparts. But, I’ve read the Patristics; they developed rules of discourse and investigation that were based on logic and the proper rules of reasoning. The early Christian thinkers were very, very logical.

    If Muslims were unable to answer opponents in a reasonable, measured, logical way (like Jonathan), than their scholarship must have been fairly shoddy.

    This is getting to be standing operating procedure for leftists. Leftist scientists often refuse to debate on global warming because “the science is settled and it is beneath them to engage in a debate with neanderthatls.”

    But perhaps our movement is too nice. Seeing how extreme and vicious the Antifa movement and other basically pro-islamic demonstrations are, I wonder whether the rest of us should throw it all right back at them eg:

    “Islam is a racist ideology. You’re supporting a racist ideology”

    “The koran encourages men to beat their wives. You’re supporting domestic violence”

    etc. You can see I’m not very good at cutting phrases, preferring a proper conversation. But people who are better at this should think about this option, basing it all on facts of course.

    • Well, this literally being shouted would be a breath-taking spectacle. But in Europe PEGIDA + other organisations do march in protest against Islam. But the “diehard political corrects” and the rather neutral onlookers react with judging the PEGIDA’s as anti-Islamic prejudiced, right-wing and dismiss it mostly.

      If “we” experiment until we get it right, our side could try to COMPARE endlessly; In REACTION to protests against the Trump-government, which are all over the place (world) now.

      After listening/ understanding well what the protesters against Trump and his government are saying we can demand Single instead of Double Standards. For instance; we can tell protesters against alleged bad treatment of women by Trump with comparing what he is supposed to have done with how Muslims are instructed to treat their women and how they in practice do it.

      The point is; when the left/ political corrects were safely in power they ignored our sides protests, or ended debates when they were losing them. And our side was powerless in the democratic way.

      But with the Trump team in power and the left/ political corrects feeling uncomfortable and having their own fears, and in turn emotionally protesting, against persons and groups in power,

      our side now can relentlessly compare anything the other side is protesting against, with what our side is protesting against. Our side could endeavour to never let the other side get away with their obvious outrageous double standards!
