Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Vatican “concerned” over “spread of nationalism, populism” in US and Europe

Feb 15, 2017 9:32 am By Christine Douglass-Williams

The Vatican’s Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin said Monday that the Holy See is concerned over growing populist and nationalist movements, both in Europe and in the United States.

The Holy See has not demonstrated any such concern about jihad attacks and the Islamic supremacist incursion into the West through Hijra and the violent crimes associated with it. Where is Pope Francis’ compassion for the millions of victims of Islamic supremacists and jihadists globally?

“Vatican Expresses Concerns Over ‘Spread of Nationalism, Populism,'” by Thomas D. Williams, Breitbart, February 14, 2017:

The Vatican’s Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin said Monday that the Holy See is concerned over growing populist and nationalist movements, both in Europe and in the United States.

In an interview for the Italian evening news on the state-owned RAI network, Cardinal Parolin was asked whether the Vatican is worried about what the interviewer called “the spread of nationalism and populism not only in Europe but also in the United States with Donald Trump.”

“I think so, I think so,” Parolin said. “Certainly these closings are not a good sign,” since many of them “are born of fear, which is not a good counsellor.”

The Cardinal also recalled recent comments by Pope Francis, saying that “there is a risk of history repeating itself.”

In a lengthy interview with the Spanish daily El País in late January, Pope Francis was asked whether he was concerned about the spread of a populism that capitalizes on “people’s fears,” preaching “a message of hate.”

In his reply, Francis distinguished between a good, grassroots populism, where it is the people who are “the protagonists,” and a cult of personality where a charismatic figure like Hitler rises to power and is welcomed as a savior figure.

“For me the most typical example of populism in the European sense is the Germany of 1933,” Francis said. After Hindenburg, “Germany tries to get back up, searches for its identity, looks for a leader, someone to give it back its identity and a youngster named Adolf Hitler says, ‘I can do it; I can do it.’”

Whereas the first sort of populism is a good thing, the latter can be very dangerous, he said.

The risk, Francis said, is that in times of crisis we lack judgment and people can begin to think, “Let’s look for a savior who gives us back our identity and let’s defend ourselves with walls, barbed-wire, whatever, from other people that may rob us of our identity.”

“And that is a very serious thing,” he said. “That is why I always try to say: talk among yourselves, talk to one another.”

In the same interview, the Pope was asked specifically whether he was worried about Donald Trump, whom the interviewer described as a xenophobe filled with “hatred for foreigners.”

Francis said that the new U.S. President deserved to be judged by his actions, not by “prophecies” of what he may or may not do.

“I think that we must wait and see,” Francis said. “I don’t like to get ahead of myself nor judge people prematurely. We will see how he acts, what he does, and then I will have an opinion.”

The Pope said it is “most unwise” to be afraid of something that might or might not happen.

What is the differance between a GOOD CHRISTIAN and a “good muslim”???
GOOD CHRISTIANS call out & openly criticize our “leader” when he talks stupid, immoral nonsense!!!
“good muslims” swallow the “prophets” heresy & blasphemy whole, act on it literally (isis, boko harem, plo, alqueda, etc), or by their silence remain complicit in the genocide, intolerance, child raping, mysoginy, subjugation, human rights abuses, etc etc. occurring presently & daily (and systemically & sanctioned by “gov’t” in Islamic “states”) as counselled by their “prophet”.
I am a devout Catholic, but religion notwithstanding I can see how obviously Jesus’ example & instructions are far more truthful & wise than any islamic rhetoric.
WHY IS THE CATHOLIC CHURCH NOT PROMOTING & PUBLICIZING the WISDOM of CHRIST vs the FALACY of the “prophet”???
Why are they not aggressively engaged in publicly stating how wrong & harmful it is, WHAT AN ABUSE OF HUMAN RIGHTS it is to murder living human people before birth (half are female, is this feminist rights?)??
THE VATICAN NEEDS A “TRUMP EQUIVALENT” for POPE!!!!
Remember: un-Christian as the crusaders may have been, the civilized Spain of today would be a cesspool like libya or somolia were it not for their valour & selfless heroism defending western civilization!!

I didn’t finish reading your statement. I stopped at why isn’t the Catholic church publicizing the wisdom of Christ versus the fallacy of the prophet?
Gee….my love for the Catholic faith is it’s focus on nourishing the soul. Our call to love, kindness and compassion. Fear is the mother of all sin. Dissect any action of hate, it’s fueled by fear. Start studying the doctor’s of the Catholic church St. Ignatius Loyola, St. Dominic, St. Augustine, St.Francis de Assisi etc. & you will find the pope is leading the church as it’s leader should, with wisdom and temperance. I’m not a troll. I continue to look at this site because my dearest friend is an avid follower but over and over the moment I start being objective, simply focusing on the facts and how they compare to reality, so much of the news here is simply for shock value.

Dear Ana Maria, calling for the invasion of millions of violent Mohammedans is not ultimately compassionate. The rape and murder of Europeans at Muslims hands is not ultimately kindness.

          More:

          ………………………………

I don’t believe that Fascism was fueled by fear, but by the desire for conquest and genocide. I don’t believe that Muslims raping and murdering us is driven by fear, but from their creed’s tenet enjoining them to force the submission of Infidels to Islam.

And what about *legitimate* fear? If you are walking down a dark street and being followed by a threatening gang, is it encumbent on you to slow down and let them catch up so that you do not “sin” by heeding your fears? Should you hand them your purse, allow them to beat you up without resistance, and offer your daughter–or your neighbor’s daughter–up to them to be raped?

          More:

          ………………………………

St. Augustine did indeed counsel against resisting barbarian invasion–but even he did not suggest inviting the barbarians in. It is also notable, of course, that he lived before the rise of Islam.

Both St. Francis and St. Ignatius Loyola traveled to Dar-al-Islam to preach to the Muslims. Both realized they could well have been martyred there. Neither of them preached allowing Muslims to invade Europe.

Pope Pius V was a Dominican, and he urged Catholics to pray the Rosary at the Battle of Lepanto against the invading Turks. He also backed the Knights of Malta, who stood against Muslim invasion. The idea that the Dominicans backed Muslims flooding into Europe is quite mistaken.

So–you believe that standing against the rash of Muslim rape and violence against us is not heartfelt for the needless suffering of the victims, but is done for “shock value”? You believe that bravely saying that child “marriage”, the rape of Infidel women and their being sold as sex slaves, the “Honor Killing” of wives and daughters, the bombing of churches, and the mass-slaughter of unbelievers has no moral basis, but instead is done merely for “shock value”?

Yes, agree, Francis is the dhimmi pope. His extreme globalism is not based on a Biblical understanding. He is clearly a Troskyite pope as well.

The only way to stop him is for RCs to send their offerings JIHAD-KNOWLEDGEABLE church institutions that actually fight to defend persecuted Christians and then TELL THE BISHOPS that they are doing it.

When the revenue stops flowing to the Vatican, the pope will get the message really quick.

And where was he when extremism rose and continues to rise its head in the middle east with the elimination of all minorities. If he does not want another Hitler, he should lecture those who are creating one. Or does he mean that people have no right to defend themselves. Or, maybe, he is just another Obama.

Pope Francis is an evil man.

He will tolerate and enable the death and maiming of millions to help him achieve his personal goal: the imposition of a global socialist regime across the planet. That is all he really cares about. Everything he says, he does, doesn’t say and doesn’t do demonstrate his ambition. He is not religious, he is not pious, he is a left wing politician who will hide behind the violence committed by others to see his political goals achieved. He will not commit violence himself, he will blandly “tut tut” it when it happens, but he earnestly wants it and needs it to happen.

If ignorance and moral cowardliness is evil, then I agree the pope is an evil man. In his own unbalanced way of thinking I’m sure he thinks he’s acting “godly” and wise. But I say that it is neither wise nor godly to ignore life saving facts for the sake of spiritual cliches and out-of-touch morality. Humans live in a very dangerous and difficult world. The pope’s feckless concerns and superficial take on world affairs is of no help to those confronted with real-world muslim aggression. Go tell the countless Christians that are murdered and persecuted by jihadists how the pope is worried about nationalist trends, and see if that helps. Go tell the families of the 9/11 victims the pope is afraid of populism, and see if they are comforted. Go tell children and women getting raped by muslim men the pope doesn’t like fences, and see if their trauma goes away. Go tell the people of Europe who are losing whole neighborhoods to violent enclaves that the pope thinks we’re too concerned about our own identity, and see if that helps ease the social tension muslims bring to our nations. The point is clear, the pope isn’t caring where it counts most. Anyone can ramble platitudes and high-minded morality, but true love of humanity is what Spencer, Geller, Wilders, and Trump, are doing. They are the ones taking the heat for dealing with the hardcore issues in truth and reality. The pope, he’s nothing more than arm chair quarterback trying to look wise an important at humanity’s expense. Give him a cookie and send him home.

      • Bill says

        Feb 15, 2017 at 12:36 pm

There is much you have written with which I can agree, but I still think you give the man an unwarranted shield of “ignorance and moral cowardice”. He is not ignorant, He is a coward only in that he is content to let others commit the acts of violence he knows must pave the way for his socialist global order to become a reality

I suppose he thinks himself “godly”, but he was the one who , a year after ascending to his Papacy, declared that Communism took the mantle of the Catholic Church. He is intent on reclaiming that mantle even if the blood of millions must ensure his victory.

“I can only say that the communists have stolen our flag. The flag of the poor is Christian. Poverty is at the center of the Gospel,”

“It is the communists, in all cases, that think like Christians. Christ has spoken of a society where the poor, the weak and the excluded are those who make the decisions.” He does though seem to have a fondness for Communist dictators “who make the decisions”. I suppose his idol Fidel Castro is just one of the “poor and the weak”. Pope Francis has claimed that Communists are closet Christians, who have appropriated the Gospel’s central message of poverty.

He is acting intentionally and willfully. He is not merely a foolish optimist. No need to give him a cookie and send him home. He intends to see that your cookie and home have been taken, then your freedom, then your life: you know, the Communist way..

According to his daughter, HE ( DANNY O.) STARTED RAPING HER WHEN SHE WAS A CHILD (I think she said 7 or 8- somewhere around there, anyhow) AND DID NOT STOP UNTIL SHE TURNED 12, STARTED PUBERTY AND GROWING PUBIC HAIR.

She said this in the Nicaraguan parliament, and D. O. just laughed. In the excuse for a Constitution that he put through, there was a clause that exempted him from crimes.

Since the pope- when in Argentina, routinely did nothing but rotate sexual deviant priests, Danny Ortega seems to me, to be his communist idol.

lol, okay, maybe I did go too far by including Trump. But in regard to islam he’s doing a fairly good job, probably more than all other politicians combined. Any major politician that stands up to the islamic bully like he did is working to improve the human condition. He could have just stayed a happy billionaire and played it safe, but he took a sh*t job with little pay. He spoke the truth where we needed it most, and I believe his frank approach to islam and muslim immigration will save lives and bring the issue out in the open where it needs to be. Under Trump islam is no longer “the religion of peace.” He said,

“I watched when the World Trade Center came tumbling down, and I watched in Jersey City New Jersey where thousands and thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down.”

Trump is thinking the same thoughts as us in regard to muslims, he knows islam is a serious threat to America and Europe. Allah’s sick ideas are alive and well in the minds of most muslims, so it makes sense he’d want to reduce immigration from high risk nations. Islam is a big problem that he is addressing with concrete actions and bold condemnation. To me that’s serving humanity.

The media then was bringing the word “muslim” into everyday conversation preparing us for their appearance in our societies. I remember in the late 80’s when I first heard it. the tempo increased in the 90’s NOW we have an inundation of muslimes.
The 9/11 attack, regardless of it being a “False Flag” heralded the start of the rise of the anti-christ which is islam. it got the ball rolling…..

Rescue of Jews by Catholics during the Holocaust
          From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pope Pius XI faced the rise of Hitler

Pope Pius XII faced the Second World War
The Roman Catholic Church – through lobbying of Axis officials, provision of false documents, and hiding of people in monasteries, convents, schools, among families and the institutions of the Vatican itself – saved hundreds of thousands of Jews from being murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust. The Israeli diplomat and historian Pinchas Lapide estimated the figure at between 700,000 and 860,000 – although the figure is contested.[1] The Catholic Church itself faced persecution in Hitler’s Germany, and institutional German Catholic resistance to Nazism centred largely on defending the Church’s own rights and institutions. Broader resistance tended to be fragmented and led by individual effort in Germany – but in every country under German occupation, priests played a major part in rescuing Jews. Aiding Jews met with severe penalty and many rescuers and would-be rescuers were killed – as with St Maximillian Kolbe, Giuseppe Girotti and Bernard Lichtenberg who were sent to the Concentration Camps.

In the prelude to the Holocaust, Popes Pius XI and Pius XII preached against racism and war in encyclicals such as Mit brennender Sorge (1937) and Summi Pontificatus (1939). Pius XI condemned Kristallnacht and rejected the Nazi claim of racial superiority, saying instead there was only “a single human race”. His successor Pius XII employed diplomacy to aid the Jews, and directed his Church to provide discreet aid. While the overall caution of his approach has been criticised by some, his 1942 Christmas radio address denounced the murder of “hundreds of thousands” of innocent people on the basis of “nationality or race” and he intervened to attempt to block Nazi deportations of Jews in various countries. When the Nazis came for Italy’s Jews, some 4715 of the 5715 Jews of Rome found shelter in 150 Church institutions – 477 in the Vatican itself and he opened his Castel Gandolfo residence, which took in thousands.

Catholic bishops in Germany sometimes spoke out on human rights issues – but protests against anti-Jewish policies tended to be by way of private lobbying of government ministers. After Pius XII’s 1943 Mystici corporis Christi encyclical (which condemned the killing of the disabled amid the ongoing Nazi euthanasia program), a joint declaration from the German bishops denounced the killing of “innocent and defenceless mentally handicapped, incurably infirm and fatally wounded, innocent hostages, and disarmed prisoners of war and criminal offenders, people of a foreign race or descent”.[2] Resistor priests active in rescuing Jews include the martyrs Bernard Lichtenberg and Alfred Delp, and laywomen Gertrud Luckner and Margarete Sommer used Catholic agencies to aid German Jews, under the protection of Bishops such as Konrad von Preysing.

In Italy, the popes lobbied Mussolini against anti-Semitic policies, while Vatican diplomats – among them Giuseppe Burzio in Slovakia, Fillipo Bernardini in Switzerland and Angelo Roncalli in Turkey rescued thousands. The nuncio to Budapest, Angelo Rotta, and Bucharest, Andrea Cassulo, have been recognised by Yad Vashem. The Church played an important role in the defence of Jews in Belgium, France, and the Netherlands, encouraged by the protests of leaders such as Cardinal Jozef-Ernest van Roey, Archbishop Jules-Géraud Saliège, and Johannes de Jong. From his Vatican office, Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty operated an escape operation for Jews and Allied escapees. Priests and nuns of orders like the Jesuits, Franciscans and Benedictines hid children in monasteries, convents and schools.[3] Margit Slachta’s Hungarian Social Service Sisterhood saved thousands. In Poland, the unique Zegota organisation also rescued thousands and Mother Matylda Getter’s Franciscan Sisters sheltered hundreds of Jewish children who escaped the Warsaw Ghetto. In France, Belgium, and Italy, Catholic underground networks were particularly active and saved thousands of Jews – particularly in northern Italy where groups like the Assisi Network were active, and in southern France.[4]

          @ Malcolm SA
When I read your posts here, it seems to me that you are afraid every time someone is critical of the Pope that they are anti-Catholic.
While there have been a few anti-Catholic posters, that is NOT the intent of the majority of the posters.
They are concerned rather with the Pope’s political commentary (albeit as reported by the press).
While the Pope is obviously not our government, his statements do have power– in popular opinion especially of the faithful and in how people vote and even in how righteous people feel in holding or expressing political concerns.
Then I see that when these posters won’t back down on their political concerns (which you have interpreted as religious criticism), you become defensive and/or frustrated and start name-calling.
          From there everything goes downhill.
I for one appreciate hearing what you see in your part of the world (which is exactly where?). But I wish you would remember that we are not against each other. We are only looking ar the “elephant” frim different vantage points.

Definitely not afraid of criticism towards our Pontiff. Catholics are critical of him for different reasons that are not expressed here on this thread.

We have survived many threats of complete destruction from many quarters, so there is no worry about the future. We are always stronger in oppression.

The Muslims know this, Hitler found this out and so did Stalin.

What is strange we are in your midst, yet those on this thread writers do know much about Catholicism yet they pontificate ad nauseam in an infallible manner of Catholicism, the faults of Catholicism.

Hence, the links that prove otherwise.

Regarding the insults directed to Catholicism in general, and the insults to Francis, then in the same breath one says we are not anti Catholic.

Insults are a form of dehumanization, the other form of dehumanization is that the Catholic Church supported Hitler, Stalin, did nothing to help the Jewish people. The other distortions, have caused the deaths of many Catholics is the fake news of pope Benedict on the Regensberg address, where the left media manipulated the message and those that quote it still do not understand it. Now this is just a few of the countless of distortions that are out there.

My task here is not to be liked, it is to tell the truth that the majority who I challenge here are distorter s and really need to take a hard look at their despicable behavior.

The ability to communicate has one purpose only and that is to tell the truth.

As can be seen in politics, when one does not know the truth it causes deaths and confusion, wars. Confusion, untruths are evil.

Many do not believe in Hell, I do, and those who do not believe and find out there is a Hell I sincerely hope that the good Lord Jesus finds some redeeming quality in me and them. ,

The man is full of deceit. He cares not for what is right, just and true, nor does he really care for Christ’s flock. As long as his pockets are lined, his plate is full and he is not being led to the same fate moslims are forcing upon Christians, he is happy to tell others where they lack “judgment” and Christian charity.

Jesus said the way a person “judges” is the way that person will be “judged.” This man, this pretender, has no “mercy” for Christians and others murdered by moslims. According to Jesus’ statement, his judgement will be without mercy.

Why should we give a damn what this over pampered, dogmatic supernaturalist has to say about the world? Do Christians really care what this relic from the past has to say? So the pope is concerned. why? Does it frighten him that people are trying to defend themselves from islamic jihad? Is he at all concerned about the death and suffering his own “flock” is experiencing at the hands of jihadists?

There’s nothing spiritually or temporally wise in what the pope is saying, it’s just the same drivel we get from high minded fools in power. Cardinal Parolin said, fear is not a good counselor. On the contrary it is, it saves live and can be a healthy response to danger. In light of muslims’ 1400 year tradition of murder for allah I think the rising fear about islam is moral, intelligent, and patriotic. But I think we’ve all gotten used to this inane, out-of-touch, nonsense from our “leaders.” They are not a guiding force in this deadly issue of islam, only reactive agents that dispense empty precepts at our expense. They seem to me like wooden dummies with allah’s hand up their butt, spouting nonsense like “Islam means peace,” or, “Not all muslims are terrorists.” Okay brave leader, now please step aside and let us defend our lives and nation.

People are running to the likes of Spencer, Geller, and Wilders, because they know they provide truthful insight into islam and offer solutions that might work–I’m one of those people. And I’m concerned too, just like the pope. I’m concerned he’s a bigger dope than I originally thought.

All those do-gooders in the West, especially those who see Muslim gangs everywhere are the real idiots. It simply is not part of the Pope’s and the cardinals’ reality.

Having said that, I, a conservative RC, disagree with absolutely everything that this Pope has said about politics. Not his forte. But then it shouldn’t be.

If one were to pause, not view him as “Pope Francis”, but as “Jorge Mario Bergoglio, a Communist from Argentina”, everything he says and does makes perfect sense. He no longer appears as being simply ill-informed, misguided, or foolish — he is easy to understand and to even predict.

He is a left wing politician, no more, no less. He has commandeered a platform from which to further his personal political agenda. He does not represent me. I reject him and his politics. Technically, he is my Pope, but God blessed us with Free Will and the cognitive ability to discern usurpers and frauds.

I would imagine that the Pope would need to be an amazing theologian to get the top job, it is possibly part of his duty statement for the position as well as being a first class administrator and having diplomatic skills of the highest order.

But I also understand that it is Vatican policy to reach out to all of mankind including Islam

Perhaps the Pope is performing an amazing balancing act in an attempt to bring peace and unity to our troubled world..

But their are also many in both Roman and Protestant Christianity who are fearful of this view. I know some branches of protestant Christianity regard “Rome” as little better than the Biblical “Whore (Harlot) of Babylon”! (Rev. Ch 17)

Any Christian who has read any history or who knows anything of Islam will know that they are to “Kill the infidel”, this includes Jews and Christians.

If, when we see another meeting between the Pope and a very Senior Muslim figure we see an immediate stop to persecution of Christians in Muslim nations perhaps we can appreciate the Popes efforts at peace.

In the meantime Muslims in Indonesia are rioting because they have come to realise that the Governor of Jakarta was a (Chinese) Christian. Not only will he be voted out of office, the mob wants him executed.

I agree with you on Francis qualifications, however my opinion is: the highly educated, can be a danger as well, as it can be difficult to separate concepts of idealism from reality.

Pope Francis gives to many interviews, so he is hostage to the questionnaire, which can be interpreted by the MSM as they please. He should be above that. There is a responsibility on his part to get the message he needs to convey in a manner that is clear.

The method he chooses is a failure, he has not the same ability as Benedict and he never will. The MSM do not care for him, he just does not seem to get it.

My opinion of Pope Francis is formed and resides more on issues of doctrine which again in my opinion needs clarification.

The Pope has met with the grand Imam of Al-Azhar, he has met with Mahmoud Abbas, he has met with Muslim leaders of all sorts–and we have not seen a drop in the persecution of Christians–in fact, this persecution is increasing almost everywhere in the Muslim world.

Hi, JMB. Pope Francis has condemned violence against Christians in Dar-al-Islam, but vaguely referred to “Islamist extremists”:

          http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2015/04/05/397624826/in-easter-address-pope-condemns-violence-against-christians

He does not appear to grasp that oppression and violence against Christians is mainstream Islam, and that inviting the adherents of such a creed into Europe might be a horrifically bad idea.

As for Pope Pius XII, he did indeed speak out against the Nazis–the question has always been whether his public condemnations were strong enough. In 1942 he voiced concern at the murder of “hundreds of thousands” of “faultless” people because of their “nationality or race.” This is a clear reference to Holocaust. But he was vague as to who the perpetrators were.

As for excommunicating Hitler, this would have been pretty pro forma, since Hitler was not a practicing Catholic.

Pope Pius did much more behind the scenes, working to block deportations of Jews, issuing Vatican visas to Jews so they could escape, and hiding Jewish children.

His not speaking out more forcefully can be read in one of two ways; cowardice, or an acknowledgement that he was able to do more if he kept official Vatican neutrality.

Certainly after the war his efforts were praised emphatically by the Israeli Foreign Minister. This will probably always be something of a controversy.

He was busy promoting Communism and protecting pedophiles among the priesthood. I really don’t care if some people think of him as some kind of holy object, I consider him an agent of evil.

No Nationalism means no nation – patriotism is a committment to fellow citizens.

It’s a pity that Pope Francis was robbed of growing up under Hitler and Musssolini because “evil” nationalists stopped them from eventually annexing Argentina. All the relatives in my father’s generation went to war to save THIS lost sheep, Francis, and the liberals who now want to dissolve nations and invite the wolves in for some pasture foraging. A. I think that we must wait and see. I don’t like to get ahead of myself, nor to judge people prematurely. We will see how he acts, what he does, and then I will form an opinion. But being afraid or rejoicing beforehand because of something that might happen is, in my view, quite unwise. It would be like prophets predicting calamities or windfalls that will not come to pass. We will see what he does and will judge accordingly. Always work with the specific. Christianity is either specific or it is not Christianity.”

Of course I read the story. But unless you believe that the secretary was either “going rogue” and speaking against the wishes of the pope, or else believe that this story is inaccurate, then it is indeed salient as to the views of the Vatican.

Besides, Pope Francis has spoken about Trump before, and made his grotesque comparison to Hitler quite clear:

“…In an hour-long interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais conducted as Donald Trump was being sworn in as US president, the pontiff also condemned the idea of using walls and barbed wire to keep out foreigners.

“Of course crises provoke fears and worries,” he said but added that for him “the example of populism in the European sense of the word is Germany in 1933.

“Germany… was looking for a leader, someone who would give her back her identity and there was a little man named Adolf Hitler who said ‘I can do it’.”

Pope Francis Takes ‘Wait and See’ Attitude Towards President Trump

In a new interview, the Pope warns that populism in a time of crisis is what led to the rise of Hitler and urges dialogue.

          Edward Pentin

On the heels of the presidential inauguration, Pope Francis has said he is taking a “wait and see” attitude about President Donald Trump and wants to deal with “specifics” before making a judgment on the new leader of the free world.

The Holy Father also warned that the political phenomenon taking place in both the U.S. and Europe has led to a form of populism where people look to a charismatic leader to be a savior from crises and to restore a nation’s identity — just as they did, he added, in 1930s Germany when its citizens elected Adolf Hitler.

“That is a very serious thing,” Francis said. “That is why I always try to say: talk among yourselves, talk to one another.”

But he also appeared to express agreement with Trump on border policy, saying “each country has the right to control its borders, who comes and who goes, and those countries at risk —from terrorism or such things— have even more the right to control them more, but no country has the right to deprive its citizens of the possibility to talk with their neighbors.”

On the day of Trump’s inauguration, the Pope sent the new President a letter in which he offered him his good wishes and prayers.

The Pope’s comments, excerpted below, were made in a lengthy exchange published today by the Spanish daily El Pais (see full English text here). The interview took place as President Trump was being inaugurated Jan. 20.

Me thinks the Vatican should be more worried with their vetting of candidates as to avoid further scandals instead of being worried about strawmen…

“For me the most typical example of populism in the European sense is the Germany of 1933,” Francis said. After Hindenburg, “Germany tries to get back up, searches for its identity, looks for a leader, someone to give it back its identity and a youngster named Adolf Hitler says, ‘I can do it; I can do it.

Really? Was that the platform Hitler was voted on? I thought it had something to do with hyperinflation coupled with war debt and the toll that took on the Weimar government and the public trust in it. But since you want to go with that approach, who’s to blame for this alleged lack of identity in our current day and age? Could it be the ruling powers who keep repeating that people need to change, seemingly for the sake of changing? A former Swedish PM said that Swedish culture was barbaric and that anything good in Sweden came from abroad. A German politician expressed her desire to see ethnic Germans becoming a minority in their own nation. Are people who disagree with that “populists” or “dangerous”?

After the time of Pope John Paul, of whom I will always remember with respect and fondness, the present Pope and his government give off indications that Socialism is part of policy anymore.
There was a time when the Church of Rome was a bulwark insulating the religious and peaceful universe from Socialism. A true example of Socialism was the USSR.

Christ spoke of a society where the poor, the weak and the marginalized have the right to decide. Not demagogues, not Barabbas, but the people, the poor, whether they have faith in a transcendent God or not. It is they who must help to achieve equality and freedom”.

It is not just the power of the United States that they fear; what they fear is the set of ideas that still makes the United States the most powerful nation on earth. For the ideas of America are a sign of contradiction to the way the rest of the world operates.

The power of these ideas to inspire people all over the globe creates an ongoing challenge to those who think the world should be organized on very different principles

Some people confuse material prosperity with freedom. They think that governments can assign a share of material prosperity to everyone, providing that the freedom to worship, think, and act is curtailed for the common good.

They do not understand that prosperity and invention arise out of spiritual and intellectual freedom. They want to impose limits and barriers.

They want to isolate human beings as individuals not connected to traditional social units, such as families, neighborhoods, and churches. In place of families, they think of collectives, planning and rules set by experts. They start with the notion of redistribution, not expansion.

It is not surprising that the re-distribution-ists identify the spirit of America as the most dangerous threat in the world to their outlook.

If the United States remains an independent leader, then the global collective of nations would be in mortal danger. That global collective is the United Nations.”

Often fear is quite rational, and it can save your life.

Another witless modern trope is the idea that all fear is irrational, and that if you really understand the nature of the threat that you will actually welcome it. Vatican “concerned” over “spread of nationalism, populism” in US and Europe
    …………………….

Apparently it is not concerned with Muslims raping and murdering us, though…

    More:

The Cardinal also recalled recent comments by Pope Francis, saying that “there is a risk of history repeating itself.”…

    …………………….

What crap–as though wanting to keep violent Jihadists out of the United States is the same as genocide of peaceful citizens. Just disgusting.

    More:

The risk, Francis said, is that in times of crisis we lack judgment and people can begin to think, “Let’s look for a savior who gives us back our identity and let’s defend ourselves with walls, barbed-wire, whatever, from other people that may rob us of our identity.”
    …………………….

More crap. Hitler did not want to defensively keep people out of Germany–instead, he invaded most of Europe. How is this the same?

    More:

In the same interview, the Pope was asked specifically whether he was worried about Donald Trump, whom the interviewer described as a xenophobe filled with “hatred for foreigners.”
    …………………….

What tripe. Trump himself is of German and Scottish heritage, and the First Lady is Slovenian-American. His first wife was Czech.

Being concerned about illegal aliens–and especially about those who come here to kill Americans–is a very different matter.

    More:

Francis said that the new U.S. President deserved to be judged by his actions, not by “prophecies” of what he may or may not do.
    …………………….

In that case, why is the Pope comparing the American president *to Hitler*?

He thinks that “Franciscus”–Jorge Mario Bergoglio–is a cultural Marxist, a globalist one-worlder, a Leftist, a Malthusian, manifest heretic, a modernist, a moral relativist situational ethicist, a universalist who toys with pantheist Gaia worship and who embraces Liberation Theology and supports Palestinian “liberation”–that’s what.

The Pope is cited by the Vatican secretary referring to “populist” election results in Europe and the rest of the West. Read the whole article–this is certainly his implication.

Malcolm, you have never said why you are so wedded to flooding Europe with violent Muslims.

Is it because you believe that one cannot be a “real” Christian unless you are endangering yourself and others?

Or is it–much worse–because you believe that Westerners, including women and children, *deserve* to be raped and murdered by invading Muslims?

You do realize that this is not an answer–or even a complete sentence–don’t you?

Why *do* you consistently support the continued flood of Muslims into the West?

        • Malcolm (SouthAfria) says

          Feb 17, 2017 at 10:20 am

President Trump is not banning anyone especially Muslims all he is doing is vetting those that have no background information. It takes a little longer. Besides he is building a good strong wall, probably stronger than the Vatican and it will be much longer and higher, notwithstanding that it is “gonna have this beautiful door” where you will have legal emigrants entering.

Gee I love Trump, peace be with him

I support your President, do you? Or are you still supporting the Pocahontas party.

        • Malcolm (SouthAfria) says

          Feb 17, 2017 at 10:44 am

Oh and the cost of the wall will come down, because Trump knows how to build and he knows how to negotiate, so there is no need to worry it going to be a beautiful wall.

And I agree with Trump, America is a mess, it is divided, Trump will bring unity.

Trump is right again when he says the M S M is fake news.

Unfortunately the rest of the world has spotted it decades ago and respect has eroded.

I mentioned this before, you have had weak leadership, No one in the world knows what your foreign policy is , not even your former president Obama what a pathetic weak man and Lock her up Hillary, who cheats on national television in a debate.

Trump is changing all that and I sense the world is liking what they hear and see. with his idea of bettering your education system which is appalling even by our low standards, you and I may have a better debate in a few years, at the moment you are pathetic.

God Bless Trump, and may he make America great again.

          …………………………….

Actually, none of this addresses your support of Pope Francis calling for Muslims to continue to flood into Europe.

          More:

I support your President, do you? Or are you still supporting the Pocahontas party.
          …………………………….

I have expressed my support for Trump’s policies on restricting Muslim immigration many times here, as anyone who is familiar with my posting history knows.

You do not explain how you can both support the pontiff’s call for continued untrammeled incursions of Muslims into the West and President Trump’s concerns over same.

And I understand that you may not be familiar with American politics, but there is no “Pocahontas Party” in the United States, and your belief that I am “still supporting” this fictive party is mistaken.

Right, Carolyne. We’re not looking to join some cult of personality centered on an all-too-fallible, merely human savior.

I already have a Savior and Redeemer, thank you.

This insecure Pontiff, in response to criticism, has corralled his Council of Nine to publicly affirm their personal loyalty to his pontificate and to his magisterium–his teaching authority. I follow this doubtful occupant of Peter’s Chair only inasmuch as he exercises Christ’s and His Church’s Magisterium and in as far as he upholds Apostolic Tradition–I have well-founded reason to doubt he does.

I read both the Catholic and the secular press, so I know as much.

It is very wise to be prepared to prevent bad things from happening. The Pope sits behind 45 foot high walls with Swiss Guard who have modern fire arms. So I guess this Pope has no concerns.

Yes Francis had a charamatic young populist leader to look up to when Francis was growing up. Yes, Francis grew up in Argentina under Juan Perone, a facist who admired Hitler. They say Francis rules with an iron grip.

Yes the Pope is concerned about nationalism and populism because it will make it harder for this Pope and is islamist friends to rule the world.

    Dear Pope Francis:

President-elect Donald Trump is NOT, under any circumstances, subject to your words of whim.

Second, European nations have every right to protect their turf, their borders, their respective cultures and languages against the invaders known as Muslims.

Please stick to what you know best which is speaking about faith and morals in the Roman Catholic church and not world politics – mainly because you are on a par with Hollyweird when you do open your mouth about politics.

    Thank you very much,

    Me.
