The Americans are there to train and support the Afghans. Even one of these green-on-blue attacks is too many, especially in light of the fact that the Afghanistan misadventure has no focus, no purpose and no goal. President Trump should end it before more Americans are wounded and killed.
“3 US soldiers shot in Afghanistan ‘insider attack,'” by Lucas Tomlinson, Fox News, March 19, 2017 (thanks to David):
Three U.S. Army soldiers were shot and wounded Sunday when an Afghan Army soldier opened fire on them inside a base in southern Afghanistan’s volatile Helmand Province, officials told Fox News.
The attack occurred around 1:30 p.m. local time at Camp Antonik in Washer District in Helmand.
“Coalition security forces on the base killed the soldier to end the attack,” Capt. Bill Salvin, spokesman for U.S. Forces in Afghanistan, told Fox News. “The U.S. soldiers are receiving medical treatment at this time and we will release more information when available.”
The severity of the soldiers wounds was not immediately clear. Salvin declined to offer more details.
There are roughly 8,400 U.S. troops on the ground in Afghanistan — more than in Iraq and Syria combined.
Additionally, the Pentagon is weighing a decision to send more U.S. forces to Afghanistan. The top U.S. commander in the country, Gen. John Nicholson, told Congress earlier this year he needed more U.S. and allied soldiers to help train the Afghan army.
A detachment of U.S. Marines is scheduled to replace the Army unit in Helmand Province in the coming weeks. Hundreds of Marines were killed fighting the Taliban in Helmand at the height of the Afghan war.
Since October, 12 Americans have been killed in Afghanistan and five Americans are currently being held hostage there….

I didn’t realize the three US soldiers died.
Fortunately, the shooter is dead.

Ashley, luckily, the three US soldiers did *not* die. But they might have–and many others have.

The US has been training Afghan soldiers for more than a decade…How ,any more years of training do they need?
JMB says
That is a good comment. By comparison, how long did it take to train our troops in the 2 great wars of the last century? I would suggest less than six months and also probably not much longer for a fighter or bomber pilot.
Will they (The Islamic world) ever be on our side? I don’t think so. Do they really know what they are fighting about? I don’t think so. Why are we over there? Does anyone really know? Are Trump’s advisers across the situation? I hope so.

Muslims are *not* our friends or allies.
JMB says
How true, it is their country, we from the West are regarded as invaders and will never be regarded as friends or allies. I am sure that any Afghani who shoots an American or British soldier is regarded as a true hero and patriot by ALL Muslims.
It must be so tragic for the families of murdered British and USA serviceman and they must all be thinking “why”
reyol says
More than most! US and coalition units that rotate into Afghanistan on a “train the Afghans mission” are forced to waste considerable amounts of time rounding up malingering Afghans who hide in the mosque and other places that Americans can’t go or take unauthorized leave to deliver their pay to their clan leaders. The better ones that we sent stateside to get professional training also disappear. The Afghans have gone from banditry to soaking up Western aid and illegal immigration. It has taken this long to train them because they aren’t really trying to learn.

All true.
JMB says
Long before the present war in Afghanistan Britain fought two disastrous wars in that country, one in the 1840s and the next in the 1880s. Again, just why are we there, what are we trying to prove?

None of the Afghans should be armed near Allied troops.

Amazing that our troops cannot protect themselves on their own bases here in the U.S. because they are not allowed to carry firearms there.
But this evil trash was allowed to have a firearm on a US base in another country.

The President can send as many troups as he sees fit to kill muslims in Afganistand but his hands are tied when it comes to vet Afganis. Both way US lives are jeopardized for nothing.
Angemon says
Why?
DFD says
Why? That’s easy. Think about it, as you well know, prolonged exposure to Islam causes ‘psychological problems’. Symptoms: Axing, stabbing, bombing etc.
Now this General has been exposed for a considerable amount of time to Islam and a Muslim environment. Result? He develops ‘problems’, and so calls for more…
Do I need to go on? Naaahhhhh….
Irene Brekelmans says
It might be an idea to get all your people and equipment out of the Islamic countries. The better you teach them to shoot, they won’t say. thank you but try to kill you much faster. You can not trust them and you better have your men back inside the country and leave no equipment behind. It will be very expensive, but may be you should not build washingrooms and prayer rooms, so life will be cheaper. I have not heard anything so crazy, and it is everywhere, but we will see Muslem people, but leftists or not, you are not going to get our countries. And there are some nice muslems, but in the end, they are for themselves in no matter what country they live in. It is a sad story, but we will see.

Security forces “killed the soldier to end the attack”, said the spokesman.
I suppose it could simply be that they need to sound a bit apologetic, to try to keep the locals from going berserk..?
An explanatory statement like that sounds odd and would be unnecessary elsewhere.

Why didn’t they leave the Soviets in Afghanistan years ago? The world would have been much better off. Instead, the US funded the mujahideen, who went on to become Al Qaeda and the Taliban. Seems everything the US touches turns out for the worst, but they can’t stop meddling.

Killing moslems one at a time is supported by human rights. Not as effective though, as Pete B above notes. If debunking Islam is easy to do, when in the last 1400 yrs has it be done, peacefully?
Jeanette says
It hasn’t. That’s why I don’t believe that de-programming will work, unless some kind of mind control is used in which the brain is actually forcibly and permanently changed, with chemicals, for instance (rather than trying to persuade the person that he/she should make a change).

I was in charge of a team deployed to Saudi Arabia during the buildup for Desert Shield / Desert Storm. When we arrived in country and were setting up our site, a group of Saudi soldiers drove up and offered to give us food. We did not need it but I accepted due to not wishing to offend them by rejecting there offer. I walked the Saudi soldier back to his vehicle and asked for the soldiers name, he gave it and asked for my name, when I told him my name he stopped in his tracks and pulled out his bayonet and said Jewish name. (my first name is Jewish, but I am not) I was able to convince this soldier that I was not Jewish but had been given a Jewish name. Bottom line is this soldier was not radicalized (how I hate that word) but was a regular joe and turned in an instant when he thought I was a Jew. This man was a typical citizen but his teaching had taught him to hate, so much so that he would have killed me or tried too, had I not been able to convince him otherwise. I have many true stories to relate about my experiences with the peaceful muslims. Having had two tours of duty in Saudi Arabia, I learned what muslims really believe, and believe me Robert Spencer is dead on about the treat Islamic ideology presents to civilized countries. As for me I trust no muslim!
