Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Canada: McGill University student tweets: “Punch a Zionist today,” then claims victim status

Mar 13, 2017 8:37 pm By Robert Spencer

First “Punch a Nazi” became a popular slogan on the Left. Now it’s “Punch a Zionist.” Eventually they will get around to calling for violence against everyone with whom they disagree. The contemporary Left, particularly on college and university campuses, is the modern embodiment of the Nazi Brownshirt ethos. The Brownshirts used to shout down and physically menace anti-Nazi professors. Igor Sadikov is just another neo-Nazi Brownshirt, as are all his comrades-in-arms who applauded his call for the brutalization of those they hate.

“Humor on McGill University campus: ‘Punch a Zionist,’” by Vivian Bercovici, Jerusalem Post, March 7, 2017:

On February 6, 2017, Igor Sadikov, an undergraduate student at Montreal’s McGill University, tweeted: “Punch a Zionist today.”

Sadikov sat on the Legislative Council and board of directors of the Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU). He is reportedly a strong supporter of the BDS movement at McGill and a former news editor of The McGill Daily, a once storied campus paper that has launched the careers of many fine journalists.

These days, the paper refuses to publish articles which “promote a Zionist worldview.”

Sadikov explained his outburst in a very sober apology posted on Facebook on February 16 – a full 10 days following his tweet – as a “misguided joke with a political meaning, rather than a credible call for violence.”

His miscalculated humor was clearly referencing the “punch a Nazi” meme, which, a week earlier, had been trending sharply on social media, after an “alt-right” American was punched in the face while being interviewed.

That incident gave rise to much navel gazing in the press as to whether it is acceptable to incite and applaud violence against, well, a Nazi.

Sadikov, who has very strong views about the legitimacy of the State of Israel, likely sees Zionists as quite similar to Nazis. Hence his adoption of the offensive meme. His tweet was no joke.

He was clearly surprised that his comment resonated well beyond his few hundred Twitter followers. He refused to step down from the SSMU, despite widespread calls for his resignation.

For 10 days. A man of integrity, he stood firm in the view he expressed.

A vote put to the SSMU in mid-February to oust Sadikov was defeated.

On his Facebook page, he was appreciative of the embrace of his online community, “liking” many supportive comments, including one stating: “I can punch one [Zionist] for you if your position does not allow you to.”

One would expect, if his contrition and regret were at all sincere, that he would use his newfound notoriety to rebuke the continued celebration of violence. Not Sadikov. He “liked” it.

He used his platform to explain that he was not attacking Jewish students per se, in fact, he and many members of his family are Jewish, explained the Russian-born activist. He was expressing opposition to a political philosophy – Zionism – that “Jewish people – should not support.”

Sadikov is free to hold whatever political views he wishes. What is not sanctioned in a civilized society, however, is the incitement to physically assault those with differing views.

Finally, on February 24, Sadikov resigned as a director of the SSMU, but remains a member of the Legislative Council. In a statement, he explained his resignation as being due to the “interference of [university administration].”

Indeed, the McGill administration considered Sadikov’s conduct to have potentially breached the SSMU constitution.

As the McGill Daily reported, the SSMU was “threatened” by the administration that if it did not publicly condemn Sadikov’s conduct further action might be taken – which might, ultimately, involve the withholding of funds allocated to student government.

This appears to have caused much consternation among the SSMU and others. As Sadikov was reported to have said: “This level of interference in student government is a new low for the University. The Principal made it very clear that what she cares about in this situation is bending to political pressure from donors and alumni, rather than acting in the best interest of the campus community and respecting the decisions of the student groups affected.”…

I know this is about Canada but it’s the same in most American universities, I truly believe if America was attacked by millions of Muslims a great many in the universities would join them, never in my lifetime has there been so many brain-washed people, if these students are America’s future then the future of America will be a very bleak and dark future..

Given the amount of critical thought and evidence based logic that is used by leftists I am amazed that they can even successfully locate a “Zionist” successfully. “Gee, look over there, that man is breathing therefore he must be a (horror!) Zionist!. Let’s punch him!”

Nothing will happen to him or the body he represents. The University will do nothing but pretend to bluster in a pathetic effort to appear to be responding.. Truth is that many of the faculty, administration, and trustees of this University and most other universities quietly, if not openly, agree with this kid and enable him and others like him to legitimize violence against conservatives thinkers, Christians and Jews..

If they care one whit they would have done something immediately, you know, the way they do when someone questions Islam or, heaven forbid, criticizes it.

Upon reading the silliness of that “Punch a Zionist” message, Sadikov, who looks like a “fairy” in the first place, just may get a helluva lot more than he bargains for. I hope he approaches a Jewish kid who can handle his fists and Sadikov throws his first and last punch, after which his intended victim beats hell out of him. That would be “poetic justice.”

Punch a Zionist today? A student government meme?

Perhaps student government should be eliminated on campuses which, after all, however be it not currently obvious, are centers of learning.

Too many of today’s university students seem unable to rise past a level of sustained adolescence that relies on groupthink and the popularity of unproven ideas.

Some professors lead these young people into activities and away from their core education as if they were cheap (free) employees for their pet projects. How much of the ever-increasing student debt is a result of campus politics and socialism activities that interfere with education?

No other institution has been more responsible for the loss of personal standards than “higher” education. And no other institution, along with its journalistic spawn, has so completely ridiculed Patriotism while besmirching the foundation and history of the nation.

Thank you for posting this important news, Robert. McGill University’s newspaper has been vehemently anti-Israel for over 4 decades, and the irony is that the parents or grandparents of this socialist anti-Zionist Jewish student probably arrived in Montreal because of the efforts of Canada’s Jewish Community to fight for the right of Soviet Jews to escape the oppression and Jew-hatred of communist Russia. The parents may have even taken advantage of the safe haven Israel offers Russian Jews in order to escape to a country where he does not get jailed for expressing his opinion. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Here is an excellent commentary by one of McGill’s brightest history professors, Gil Troy:

Igor Sadikov is getting what he deserves… and of course he’s going to play the victim… it’s right in the bleeding heart libtard playbook.

The BDS movement should really turn its attention to the SSMU and any other student society around the world that tries to suppress any view other than its own. Hate speech is hate speech. Inciting violence towards anyone you disagree with is wrong. Apparently the left is not practicing what they preach?

The BDS should also turn its attention to campuses and professors who are actively suppressing rational discourse and brainwashing their students with it’s own biased agenda.

    • Wellington says

      Mar 13, 2017 at 11:22 pm

Hi, Kay. I am not Jewish but I consider myself a Zionist because the Jewish people are one of the greatest peoples in history and Zionism as evidenced by one of its founders, Theodor Herzl, stands for (among other things) a recognition of Jewish greatness by way of the Jews having their own homeland once again (ever since 63 B.C. when the last independent Jewish state was ended by the Roman general, Pompey), reviving Hebrew as a living language (magnificently and successfully done), accurately chronicling the history of the Jewish people, and, in general, extolling the many contributions of the Jews, not the least of which contributions, and arguably its single greatest, is functioning as one of the two intellectual cornerstones of Western Civilization by way of its sophisticated religious thinking which went through several stages, with the other intellectual cornerstone being ancient Greek philosophical thought.

I concluded long ago that being anti-Zionist was as “good” as being anti-Western. And thus it is no coincidence that those who hold themselves forward as anti-Zionist are not only anti-Semitic in thin disguise but are clueless about the greatness and uniqueness of Western Civilization as well, the very civilization which pioneered more rights than any other civilization in history, invented democracy and philosophy, the scientific method too, not to mention the greatest technological achievements, easily so, of any civilization or society in mankind’s saga, as well as the laudable capacity to apologize for its wrongdoings, something which no other civilization or society has remotely come close to doing even though virtually all civilizations and societies have done terrible wrongs, including the Islamic world, the American Indian world, the sub-Saharan African world and the Asian world.

And so being a Zionist means to me, in effect, asserting the best of what humans are capable of. Thus, though not Jewish, I consider myself an enthusiastic Zionist. Wish far more people would see things my way. Would be a better world, I contend, if so. Take care.

Thank you for your support. As a Canadian Zionist Jew, it would be important for you to know that at its core, the Zionist idea of creating a nation state for the Jewish People is not based on the idea that we are “special” or “blessed” or “chosen” in any way shape or form. It is based on the idea that the Jewish/Hebrew/Judean/Israelite Nation is the SAME as any other nation on the planet and has a right to self-determination and self-defence just like the Japanese, the German, the Chinese, the Arab, the Italian, the Greek, the French nations. After 2000 years of being the “enemy” because we rejected the divinity of Jesus and the divinity of Mohammed un the Christian and Muslim Empires, we Jews decided to take our future into our own hands. We we tired of depending of the good graces of others for our survival. And we decided to go home and build a country based on affirmative action for the Jewish People and its historical language and culture.

Israel is not perfect. It was not meant to be better than any other country in the world. But if the Pakistani Nation, and the Estonian Nation can have a seat at the United Nations, certainly we Jews should be able to have one too.

So many of us stand with Israel whether or not we can articulate all the history.

This anti-Zionism is recent and I think part of the whole far-Left politics. In many cases it is indistinguishable from antisemitism and seems to be a problem especially on college campuses.
But sadly enough, I hear it even from some of my Jewish friends who blame Israel’s founding on (strangely enough) white power.
There’s a lot of skewed thinking and I won’t unskew it. I’m surrounded by people who don’t think it’s important to follow laws. It’s all pc groupthink; critical thinking and independent opinion are not really allowed.

The leadership of the Muslim world was a significant factor in Hitler’s holocaust against the Jews. That is a major reason Israel exists today. Hitler had been letting Jews leave Europe in exchange for large ransoms, but Haj Amin al-Husseini, perhaps the preeminent Muslim leader at the time, warned Hitler that he might lose the Muslim world as allies in World War II if Hitler kept letting Jews leave Europe and come to Palestine. Because of that warning, Hitler’s obsessive Jew hatred now dovetailed with his strategic imperatives, and the Holocaust had to happen, since Jews could no longer leave Europe — Haj Amin Al-Husseini strongly encouraged the genocide. It is astonishing how many Jewish people — I am half Jewish myself — know nothing about the Arab world’s link to the Holocaust. Like this unbelievably dumb kid.

Well, the Nazis and the Muslim world lost World War II. That is why the Jews have a home in Israel. All the Muslims of that time had to do to avoid the existence of an Israel is to not participate in Hitler’s genocide. If you commit mass murder, you shouldn’t complain if things don’t work out for you.

Well, first of all, No Fear, I hope your health does nothing but improve. May you feel better in the coming weeks and months——-and may you still be around for a good bit longer. I wish you nothing but the best.

As for the history of Nazi Germany (and I taught a WWII Era course for many years at the college level), two of the very finest works ever written about this dark era were both written in English, William Shirer’s “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich,” and Alan Bullock’s biography of Adolf Hitler, “Hitler: A Study in Tyranny.”

I strongly suspect you already know about these two tomes but I thought I’d mention them anyway. Bullock’s biography, though published as far back as 1952, is still considered by many historians as the single best biography of Hitler in any language, including German. Of course, Shirer’s work has become a classic. It is riveting and reads on almost every page as a great novel——-which is the best way to present history in the final analysis.

But again, I hope you will do nothing but improve. And you are so apt in noting the “connection” between Nazism and Islam. Both were enthralled by the sword and so no wonder the only religion Hitler admired was Islam.

          Take care, pal.

Igor Sadikov is just another neo-Nazi Brownshirt, as are all his comrades-in-arms who applauded his call for the brutalization of those they hate…”

That’s unfortunately absolutely right. These students are groomed within the cloistered narrow minded college environment to take on rigid ‘black and white’ attitudes to complex social issues. Discussion and debate has been sacrificed to displays of power that echo the ‘might is right’ amorality and self justification of the trail blazing Brownshirts. A large part of the responsibility for this surge in antidemocratic behaviour surely rests with Academic Staff, particularly those located within the Social Sciences and Humanities, who seem to be living out their ’70’s era political fantasies as they steadily approach their own retirements.

    • Rob says

      Mar 14, 2017 at 11:27 am

The leftist Brownshirt movement you see today on college and university campus is simply a historical extension of the Communist movement that was rampant in academia thru the 1920’s – 1940’s. During the Depression and its aftermath, communist groups vigorously recruited public support by providing the unemployed, homeless and starving with hot soup and a slice of bread in exchange for listening to their political spiel. At the same time, this socialist movement was expanded into academia where it was touted as the savior of all social ills (read the biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer, his friends and acquaintances as an example of how deeply this academic infiltration actually ran). Time moved on but the socialist message in academia “stuck”, and whether it was labeled Communism, Nazism, or liberalism it has since been preached to several generations of students. So the “leftist” efforts to stymie free speech (other than their own), historical study and consideration of opposing viewpoints has a extensive heritage and should not be surprising to anyone. Unfortunately most of these “far left” or “liberal” thinkers (other than George Soros and his ilk) have any real understanding of where their current political positions were born and fostered.

    Something something red-diaper baby.

Sadikov, who has very strong views about the legitimacy of the State of Israel, likely sees Zionists as quite similar to Nazis. Hence his adoption of the offensive meme. His tweet was no joke.

I agree. How many times have “fellow travellers” of his political colours accused Israelis (for which “Zionists” is a politically-correct euphemism) of being “the new Nazis”?

He used his platform to explain that he was not attacking Jewish students per se, in fact, he and many members of his family are Jewish

    Family reunions must be awkward…

    explained the Russian-born activist.

He was born in the country that gave us the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion”, “refuseniks” and the “Palestinian” people, and he hates “Zionists”? Imagine my surprise!

The Jew hatred of the left becomes more an more apparent. Why do leftists call us (the right) the Nazis, when the left are the ones who share the Nazi hatred of Jews, Christians and liberty?

The sooner we learn that the liberals lie because that is what they do (although they may also have another reason for a particular lie), the better off the decent people of this country will be.

He looks like an overgrown toddler.

Drop him in a Muslim country and let’s see how well he does.

Let these little twerps talk and tweet all they want. Let them spew out their hate and vile ideology. The more they do it the more they are exposed. These people are attention whores and are mostly insignificant.

For the history of the Grand Mufti’s ‘friendship’ with Hitler , on should read Icon of Evil: Hitler’s Mufti and the Rise of Radical Islam by Dalin and Rothman . A chilling account of the Mufti’s support of Hitler during WWII

This comes as no surprise, after all, McGill University is one of a myriad of universities awash with Radical-Leftists within the student body but more so the faculty in which the true dilemma lays. Those of this radical mindset loathe everyone diverse of their political, cultural or spiritual bent. Their minds are rewired throughout their education; however, it is within the universities that minds are manipulated by leftist academics, the so-called intelligentsia, and, in turn, handlers, assuring that they, the leftist cyborgs, stay on the straight and narrow.

“This level of interference in student government is a new low for the University. ”

His behavior is a new low introduced by the scum element that is now diversifying
Canadian population. These new ‘immigrants’ have no history of democracy or individual rights and society obligations, and so you see these arrogant ignoramuses, aggressive and belligerent and all too eager regress toward the violence they are familiar with.

    He should be immediately expelled.

This is an excellent argument in favor of de-funding these student “government” bodies on campuses.

Why should be required to join and pay membership dues to these outfits as part of their university fees.

Any students out there willing to take a stand and refuse to pay fees to these outfits? I’m sure there are plenty of “Zionist” lawyers out there who would be willing to take on your case(s) pro bono.

Looking at the photo of this little intellectual giant, I get the impression that any attempt by him to “punch a Zionist” would likely result in his ass being severely kicked by said “Zionist.”

This is, if he tried to do it one on one. But like the majority of these loudmouth little leftist heroes, I’m sure any punching he does is as part of a mob which takes care to vastly outnumber its opponents.

Take the time to study Nazi dogma and then compare it to Islam. A very neat fit. Only the names and uniforms differ. Both are supremacist belief systems and both hate and kill the non-believers.

The evidence is strong that Trudeau’s Liberals believe in totalitarianism. They are willing to curtail free speech and pose a threat to the long term survival of democracy in Canada.

Late news from McGill, dated March 17, 2017
The student has stepped down from his position on the SSMU council, following calls for his resignation from both the SSMU Executive Committee and the Arts undergraduate student body. This has, in fact, become a good – if underreported – example of the student body uniting with the administration to state unequivocally that there is no place for violence and intolerance at McGill.
Currently, a group of senior administrators led by McGill’s Dean of Students is working on a concrete action plan to address the broader issues of safety and tolerance on campus.
Unlike many other universities in Canada and the US, McGill is making it plain that they do not countenance this type of “hateful freedom of expression”.
