Canadians want immigrants screened for “anti-Canadian values,” are scolded by establishment media

Mar 14, 2017 5:31 pm By Christine Douglass-Williams

Monday’s headlines proclaimed “disappointment” and “concern” over a new CROP poll of Canadians’ attitudes toward immigration.

Despite the extraordinarily painstaking efforts by leftist leaders, the media and Muslim Brotherhood-linked groups such as the National Council of Canadian Muslims (former CAIR-CAN), all serving as thought police, Canadians are not quite that naive. Given the voluminous liberal outrage against the former Conservative party’s “Zero Tolerance Against Barbaric Cultural Practices Act” and the federal, provincial and municipal anti-Islamophobia agenda that is being forced upon Canadians, still Canadians support the screening of immigrants for “anti-Canadian values.” Yes, values screening. It is not racist, xenophobic, “Islamophobic” or any other kind of phobic to want to protect Canadian freedoms from sharia incursions, and, indeed, from barbaric practices from any culture. They have no place in Canada.

The article below states:

Of course we can’t empirically test for violent tendencies, misogyny and indolence. There are many good practical reasons not to pursue these policies.

We can however, implement a zero tolerance policy against barbaric practices that violate the constitution, and put an end once and for all to initiatives that potentially threaten the principles of a free society, such as “Islamophobia” initiatives. All such endeavors should be put to rest. The history of “anti-Islamophobia” drives are nefarious. They are being forced upon the West by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and have caused damaging divisions among Canadians. Muslims are protected by existing laws in the same way as is any other group: hate laws are already in place, and that is enough.

“Most Canadians support ‘values screening’ — which is neither surprising nor concerning”, by Chris Selley, National Post, March 13, 2017:

Monday’s headlines proclaimed “disappointment” and “concern” over a new CROP poll of Canadians’ attitudes toward immigration. “A majority of Canadians express concerns,” Société Radio-Canada declared on its home page. Notably, we learned that 74 per cent of respondents support implementing (as the pollsters put it) “a test of values to identify (potential immigrants) who have ‘anti-Canadian’ values.”

That’s Conservative leadership candidate Kellie Leitch’s signature immigration proposal: personal interviews for all new immigrants; values screening; and passing the extra costs on to the new arrivals. This is by no means the first poll to find widespread support for the ideas. And one wonders how often we need to learn of it before we stop being shocked and disappointed — or even particularly concerned.

In theory, in isolation, the ideas are perfectly defensible. All immigrants got personal interviews until 2002. Immigrants pay all manner of fees throughout the process. And if we could somehow empirically test potential immigrants for violent tendencies, misogyny and indolence — three “anti-Canadian values” Leitch has suggested — then we surely would.

To hear some of Leitch’s opponents, you would think the idea of pushing “Canadian values” on immigrants — if not the very idea of “Canadian values” — was beyond the pale. Of course it is not. The “A Look at Canada” citizenship guide — the Liberal one, which the Conservatives replaced amidst apocalyptic howls — says Canadian values include equal rights, “respect for cultural differences,” “freedom of thought, freedom of speech, freedom of religion,” and “law and order.” Being proud of “our international role as peacekeepers” is a Canadian value, it says.

Why push these supposed values on immigrants in book form, but not in person? Are they important or aren’t they?

Of course we can’t empirically test for violent tendencies, misogyny and indolence. There are many good practical reasons not to pursue these policies. The consensus among bien-pensant campaign watchers is that this is nothing more than a populist “dog whistle” appeal to nativists and xenophobes who believe immigrants are more likely to be violent, misogynist and indolent.

But most Canadians aren’t watching the campaign at all, and couldn’t pick Leitch out of a lineup. If you ask them whether Canada should screen immigrants for objectively undesirable traits, then of course most are going to say yes. It’s absurd to hold that up as evidence of a surge in anti-immigrant sentiment, especially when the poll in question provides plenty of evidence to the contrary: 78 per cent think immigration makes Canada a better place to live or makes little difference; 83 per cent think we have much to learn from other cultures; 79 per cent have no desire to see a Trump-style figure in Canadian politics.

If you were inclined to worry about anti-immigrant sentiment, there’s plenty you could latch on to in this 61-page poll that’s far more disquieting than support for “values screening.” But that’s the genius of a wedge issue like this: it provokes a level of outrage and condemnation that to those not following closely would seem unhinged, which in turn makes the policy and the candidate seem all the more reasonable by comparison.

“Leitch’s proposal to screen every immigrant and visitor is nothing but Donald Trump’s executive order, disguised as Canadian values, and crafted to keep Muslims out of Canada,” leadership candidate Deepak Obhrai said in a statement last week. He suggested it could incite racists to murder, such as in Kansas last month.

I’m disgusted by Leitch’s campaign and even I think that’s crazy. But more to the point, it won’t help. Fighting populism with hyperbole is like fighting fire with kerosene, and it’s strange how few anti-populists seem to realize this. If Leitch’s proposal weren’t surrounded by a bunch of exploding heads and people screaming “Trump! TRUMP!” at her, it would just be one silly, unpractical and unnecessary idea among dozens in play in this campaign.

It is ironic for Canadian parliamentarians to ban an undefined, theoretical, nebulous, unofficial ‘Islamophobia’, when Islam contains an intolerant, discriminatory doctrine that is ‘ESSENTIAL’, DEFINED, LEGALLY BINDING, PRECISE and OFFICIAL.
    • ‘Al Walaa wal Baraa’ – (Allegiance and Disassociation) is an Islamic doctrine that is very similar to apartheid, but more severe.
    • ‘Al Walaa wal Baraa’ is an ‘essential doctrine’ (usul ud-deen). ‘Essential’ means that all Muslims must believe and practice al Walaa wal Baraa as a condition of being admitted to paradise.
    • ‘Al Walaa wal Baraa’ is a highly developed, well-supported and canonical part of Islam approved by the consensus of Islamic jurists.
    • ‘Al Walaa wal Baraa’ is legally binding and obligatory upon all Muslims.
    • ‘Al Walaa wal Baraa’ is precisely defined by Islamic jurists and is not a nebulous idea.
    • ‘Al Walaa wal Baraa’ is an official Islamic doctrine and considered the second most important doctrine in Islam.
Definition of ‘Al Walaa wal Baraa’ from Islamic sources:
    • “ to show enmity to those who show enmity to Allaah and His Messenger” (i.e. Muslims are to visibly demonstrate their enmity or towards non-Muslims), from Khalid El-Gharib, “The Islaamic Concept of al-Walaa’ wal-Baraa’”, https://www.kalamullah.com/manhaj14.html
    • “The implication of al-Baraa is that one HATES for the sake of Allah (SWT)…Al-Baraa means to recognize who your enemies are and to HATE them and EXTERMINATE them in their endeavour to get rid of your Deen, al-Islam…Al-Baraa is to HATE the people who propagate Baatil (falsehood)—the Muslim should HATE them and (at least desire to) KILL them when the time comes.” (i.e. al Baraa prepares Muslims to exterminate non-Muslims), Sheikh Abdullah al-Faisal, lecture, https://youtu.be/jUgDJmpmj14?t=855
    • “The Muslim should regard the Kuffaar as enemies and hate them because of their kufr, just as he hates their kufr (disbelief) itself.” Umar Sulayman ‘Abd-Allaah al-Ashqar, “Belief in Allah”, http://www.kalamullah.com/belief-in-allah.html, (engl.2002)
Examples of Baraa from Historic Islamic Leaders:
    • “The honour of Islam lies in insulting kufr and kafirs. One who respects the kafirs dishonours the Muslims… The real purpose of levying jiziya on them is to humiliate them to such an extent that they may not be able to dress well and to live in grandeur. They should constantly remain terrified and trembling. It is intended to hold them under contempt and to uphold the honour and might of Islam.”, Ahmad Sirhindi (1564-1624), (letter No. 163)
    • “… true believers show animosity and hatred towards disbelievers and never support them.”- from ibn Taymiyya, The Book of Faith (“Kitab al Iman”) – ISBN: 9781615842872

The condemnation of Islamophobia is a Trojan horse to ban any criticism of Islamic SUPREMACISM. It’s a political manoeuvre to stop Canadian conservatives from having a voice on the government policy of a Muslim invasion.

I cannot understand why %99 of Canadians do not want any more Muslims in our country when their intent as they state in the Koran is too put the blade to the neck of the individual and give him a choice of Islam or death. I tell these barbarians to don’t bring a knife to a gunfight.

I am asking all concerned Canadians to unite and vote Kevin O’Leary as the head of the Conservative Party of Canada. We can if we all vote for this party at the next election defeat Emperor Trudeau and get back to a responsible running of the country.

Ted, Kevin O’Leary is a lib in conservative clothing. Even if he wins the leadership of the conservative party, he will not lead the conservatives to an election victory.

He won’t get the seats in Quebec. He spends half his time in the U.S. He is scared of speaking French in public, and he thinks rules don’t apply to him (as in, when he skipped out of the leadership debate and wasted $10,000 in donations from supporters to pay the fine).

He is nothing more than an open borders globalist, who admitted that he would run for the leadership of the liberal party if he decided not to run for the conservatives. In other words, he doesn’t care who the hell he runs with, as long as he gets what he wants. He’s easily bought and sold and him winning the leadership would be a disaster.

I will be going to see O’Leary this Friday night and I hope to ask him about your allegations. There is another leadership debate in Toronto on April 26th. and he wont be backing out on that one. From what I hear his French is improving and he is doing the best he can. There are others in Parliament who I am sure are not %100 fluent. The Radical Islamists who want to take over our values don’t care what language you speak be it French or English, just ask Merkel.

          Mar 15, 2017 at 1:55 pm

This is a reply to Ted @ 12:25 PM:

It doesn’t matter if he’s 100% fluent or not, it’s the impression that he’s giving. He’s coming off as scared to speak French in public and that will not get him anywhere. Like it or not, this country is bilingual and if you hope to lead, you need to at least give the impression that you are okay with speaking French. Quebecers will not tolerate a leader who gives the impression of not wanting to communicate in French, and any potential winner needs to be able to deliver seats in Quebec.

“The Radical Islamists who want to take over our values don’t care what language you speak be it French or English, just ask Merkel.”. No, they may not care, but the people who can help prevent (along with other conservative voters in ROC), with their vote, the liberals from winning another election certainly do care.

I”m voting for Maxime Bernier when the leadership vote is held. He has support across the country and is in the best position to lead the conservatives to a win.

If there is one thing President Trump’s campaign has proven it’s polls are absolutely meaningless. The original settlers that built America landed with preset skills and a established set of moral ethics that allowed this Country to become great. To allow this to be threatened by a cult of extreme zealots would be a mistake- especially since the only skill they have to offer is one of blowing other people up.

Classic Conservative confusion in the Prog Fog.
What, on Earth, are “Canadian Values”?
    Freedom of thought?
    Then, what’s wrong with Fascism?
    Tolerance of cultural values?
    Then what’s wrong with Sharia?
    Hhaaaa!
National Review tried a “check box” approach to “conservative values” and we see where that wound up.
Fact is, Historians (the real thing, not Jonah Goldberg and other political hacks) still have no satisfactory definition of fascism or even nationalism. See Stanley Payne.
Political terms are, by nature, vague and they change.
Even “liberal” today is not the Liberal-Nationalism of the 19th Century that opposed Absolutism or the Nation State Idea that developed under Absolutists against the Papacy.
    *
The fault of any Republic is that they can talk themselves out of existence and most of them have. When they do that, fact is, most people are actually happy to seem them go simply because incessant arguing is no substitute for governance.
    *
Autocracies have their faults too, but putting up with loud mouths isn’t one of them.
Immigration has traditionally been controlled by limiting the absolute numbers to what is felt the indigenous can handle and screening out subversives.
Believe it or not, most of the deportees of the last century from America and Canada were subversive, anarchists or communists no matter what Liberals like to say about it. The Frankfurt School were refugees from the 3rd Reich, but that obviously didn’t make them very desirable unless you’re a fan of Herbert Marcuse or Saul Alinksky. Just because you’re persecuted or somebody’s enemy doesn’t make you an ally.
    *
Bottom Line : National Values are a felt thing. If you have to formally define them, you’ve already lost them because there is no formal definition that will work. It’s all “grey law” sort of stuff.

  6. SAKOVKT says

“Shared values” isn’t even a good immigration criteria.

Recall that George Washington deported Citizen Genet because he was arguably a little too much a of Liberal-Nationalist Republican Revolutionary for Washington, who couldn’t claim to be much of anything else, as things were, at the time.

Good thing Washington did, or we’d likely enough been fighting on the side of Napoleon for years to come and I doubt that would have been anything but the end of us.

A great but misunderstood dichotomy between America and Europe occurred in those years.

Napoleon wracked Europe with years of war, sacked Rome and crowned himself emperor. Washington simply became President and had only Shay’s Rebellion to deal with as a revolutionary excess, which he accomplished by force but without firing a shot.

Liberalism in America became a much different thing than in Europe.

Careful who you let into your country!

Richie, it is true. Many Americans have been made, over time and by plan, to feel guilty for being America, for having the lives that we have, the freedoms that we have. We owe it to the world to bring them here and give them a chance. It would be one thing if there were that pride in America. But it has gradually been stamped out in millions in this country. They feel shame for being American, perhaps especially if you are white. Being white, you are racist by definition according to some.

Christians are the most targeted because of their faith. They cannot stay in U.N. camps because this is where they are tortured , raped and slaughtered . We are trying to change that.
If Trudeau has no agenda, is not trying to promote Islam , then why not bring Christians to Canada too. I think a lot of this anger may be dispelled if he were fair , and not saved just Muslims.

This is our problem .My accountant is a young Muslim girl, very well educated in Canada and we have a great relationship with her, she has a great sense of humour which helps because I hate doing taxes. The first time we met she told us she was from an Islamic family and I not being one to automatically reject someone based upon their religion I had no concerns. The conversations continued on because I have a big mouth and like to hear other peoples ideas, and she confessed to us she had a great desire to get a pilots licence, but her father being very traditional Islamic said this was not a possible or desirable action. I agreed with her she should continue on and maybe one day she would end up flying as a pilot. She became very relaxed with us and also said she had a problem because elder Islamic women in her community did not like the way she dressed and she should conform to what they did which she wanted no part of. I will be seeing her in a short time and hope that maybe she is enrolled in a flight school. This is the problem. I have related this story to non-Muslims and they have said “Don’t give her a map to the World Trade Centre”. And then I read about young Muslim girls being drowned in the canal in Kingston because they have not followed the parents strict rules. Its too bad that because of these unreasonable demands of their Ideology, the actions of the Islamists in Europe and the rest of the world, have caused me to demand the Muslim immigration must not be allowed to continue. If they were like the daughter no problem, but never to the Father.

I do not want that thought pattern to seep in anyway back into our society . Womens liberation has gone far , far enough , there are those today that are expecting to be better than men in Western culture. But in Islamic culture the treatment and ideas of women are uncivilized .

Alright even though we cannot afford to take in any more refugees , there are Christian refugees in Syria , they have the same standards as Canadians. Where are these refugees, they are the first targeted in refugee camps because of their religion. Come on Trudeau , man up

          Well maybe goats will get a break , and sheep will be the new choice for intimate companionship. If only :}
I know that was rude, but J.T. brings something out in me.
