Glenn Beck hits Trump immigration ban for failing to differentiate Islamists and Muslims

Mar 17, 2017 11:32 am By Robert Spencer

“Beck, whose manner is now more soft-spoken than it was in the days when he hosted a daily show on Fox News….”

Translation: “Beck, whom we used to detest but is now saying things that we at CBS News like…”

The article says: “He told Wagner that the fallout from failing to differentiate between Islamists and Muslims could have a dangerous cost: ‘We could see some sort of internment camp situation,’ he predicted, ‘if there is a December 7th.’”

Who is talking about interment camps? Only Leftists and hysterical Never-Trumpers. No one on the Trump team.

How does Beck propose to differentiate between Islamists and Muslims? He can define the difference, but can he tell one from the other? If Beck were President of the United States (heaven forfend), would he implement an “Islamist ban,” and keep all card-carrying “Islamists” out of the country? And what if they didn’t have Islamist membership cards? Would he have them questioned as to whether they believe that “the Qur’an supersedes the Constitution or any country and the country must be run by religious rule”? And how could he determine that their answers were honest?

What Beck and many others like him fail to admit, and perhaps fail to realize, is that there is no reliable way to distinguish “Islamists” from Muslims who are determined to come to the U.S. and be faithful, loyal, productive, patriotic citizens of a pluralistic society in which there is no established religion. Hence the immigration ban from certain countries that are hotbeds of jihad activity and from which numerous jihadis have entered the U.S.

Beck, of course, is famously erratic. In his 2007 book An Inconvenient Book, he said: “I have read the Koran and can tell you that I unequivocally believe that Islam is a religion of peace.” Then in 2015 he published a book entitled It IS About Islam, admitting that there were elements of Islamic teaching that jihadis used to justify violence and make recruits among peaceful Muslims.

Beck’s confusion may come from the fact that is an ardent disciple of “moderate” character assassin Zuhdi Jasser, although he sometimes calls him “Juhdi Zasser,” and recently had Jasser on his show again to repeat his defamation of me and other foes of jihad terror as “alt-jihadists,” because we note correctly that al-Qaeda and the Islamic State are working within Islamic teaching and tradition.

On the show, Beck likened us to Nazis, saying to Jasser: “And I see now why you’re calling it the alt-jihad because it is part of the alt-right movement. This all-on [sic] -nothing, Nazi kind of mentality of the alt-right needs all Muslims to be bad.” Now, I do not believe and have never stated that “all Muslims” are “bad,” and this is taking Jasser’s defamation to a new level. We disagree with Jasser about the nature of Islamic teaching and the prospects for Islamic reform. We are trying to preserve free and pluralistic societies. Jasser said this makes us jihadis. Now Beck says it also makes us Nazis.

If Glenn Beck is the man of ethics and integrity he claims to be, he will apologize to me and to Jasser’s other “alt-jihadists,” and engage in a discussion with us, public or private, about the relevant issues.

I won’t be waiting by the phone for his call.

“Glenn Beck defends Muslims in wake of new travel ban,” CBS News, March 16, 2017:

Former Fox News firebrand Glenn Beck said of President Trump’s newly revised travel ban that he agrees that an Islamist threat exists, but he criticized the White House, Congress and the media for failing to explain the difference between Islamists and Muslims.

In an interview with Alex Wagner on CBSN Thursday, Beck, a prominent never-Trumper who supported Ted Cruz’s presidential candidacy, said that the vast majority of Muslims in America are “no different than Catholics or Mormons.” An Islamist, on the other hand, believes “that the Koran supercedes [sic] the Constitution or any country” and the country must be run by religious rule. He told Wagner that the fallout from failing to differentiate between Islamists and Muslims could have a dangerous cost: “We could see some sort of internment camp situation,” he predicted, “if there is a December 7th.”

Beck was referring to the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. “ We could head someplace we’ve been before and we don’t want to go again,” he warned.

Beck, whose manner is now more soft-spoken than it was in the days when he hosted a daily show on Fox News…

There is no difference between the two – every Muslim is an Islamist!!

It should come as no surprise. Beck is a Mormon and it’s amazing how much Islam and Mormonism have in common.

Men get multiple women to have eternal sex with.
both deny Jesus’ atonement on the cross
both say the Bible has been corrupted
      both have new “holy books”
      both books came from plates
      both have new prophets
both prophets were visited by an angel

I agree. I liked Beck on CNN because he was so different than CNN, he was a rebel. On Fox he fitted well with the Conservative atmosphere there, for a while, but some time later, his show derailed into bizzare conspiracy theories, and I stopped watching. Now he seems completely unhinged, and sounds like he would do well on MSNBC.

  9. BARBARA LEE BROOKS says

    Mar 17, 2017 at 12:42 pm

The only branches of Islam that are peaceful are certain Sufi groups and the Ahmadi’s. They consider the violence to be part of a past era which offers spiritual lessons, rather than a literal model to copy.
Basically, anybody who follows Sunni or Shia Islam will have ideas against the Constitution, if they are devout.
Of course, many just go through the motions, but just being Sunni or Shia drastically increases the chance that the children will go for extremism, even if the parents are lukewarm about religion.

    • Jeanette says

      Mar 19, 2017 at 4:20 pm

A Muslim who ceases to follow the Koran is automatically no longer a Muslim, according to Islam itself.

So peaceful branches of Islam are not Islam, but Islam’s own definition, and they are not the problem.

The rest who call themselves Muslims all follow a book that commands that they kill us (saving small children for raping and young girls for Muslim broodmares, of course).

I don’t understand what is so complicated about that, that so many Americans cannot seem to grasp it (not speaking of you here, Barbara; just rambling)!

I have Glenn Beck’s book, “It IS About Islam: Exposing the Truth About ISIS, Al Qaeda, Iran, and the Caliphate.” It is not bad. I figured Mr. Beck got some help writing it as he is not a scholar on Islam to my knowledge. He is (for lack of a better word) eclectic in his interests and writings.

For purposes of comparison, I typed “Islamist” in Kindle “Search” for Beck’s book: 61 matches. By comparison, Robert Spencer’s, “The Politically Correct Guide to Islam (And the Crusades),” has three, the one a quote from Ibn Warraq on Islam. The other two from MEMRI.org.

Sell-out Glen Beck is fooling no one. Why doesn’t he go back to being a conservative?

MR. BECK, THE FOLLOWING EXPLANATION IS FOR YOU:

“Islamism is not a caricature, nor a counterfeit, nor a heresy, nor a fringe or atypical phenomenon versus classical, orthodox, Sunnite Islam.

To the contrary, I think Islamism is naked Islam, Islam without a mask and without paint, Islam perfectly consistent and true to itself, an Islam that has the courage and lucidity to go all the way to its ultimate conclusions and final implications.
Islamism is Islam in all its logic and in all its rigour. Islamism is present in Islam as the chick is present in the egg, as the fruit is present in the flower and as the tree is present in the seed.

    But what is Islamism?

Islamism is political Islam, the bearer of a project for a model society and whose aim is to establish a theocratic state based on Sharia, the only legitimate law—since it is divine—since it was revealed and enshrined in the Koran and Sunna—it’s a law that applies to everything.

Here is an all-inclusive and all-encompassing project, one that is total, totalizing and totalitarian.” -Fr. Henri Boulad SJ

Glenn Beck most be a very ignorant man to bash on President Trump for failing to “differentiate between Islamic and Muslims” Beck had even exposes his own ignorance by even using the PC fake word “Islamist.” For the bogus word “Islamist was make after September 11, 2001. in order not to offend upset non-violent Muslims. Therefore , whenever a murderous Islamic terror attacks occurs the violent and dangerous person who committed the jihad terror attack is not really an “Islamist” terrorist but an actual Muslim terrorist. It’s very important to keep within the bound of reality and call people and things for what they actually are.. Likewise, another artificial word of this dishonest politically correct “New Speak” is the false word “Islamism” The fake word was also made up after 9/11 to make non-violence Muslims happy. “An Islamist, on the other hand, believes “that the Koran supercedes [sic] the Constitution or any country” ”

This is the official Quranic and Sunna supported ideology of Islam! It is simply unrealistic, until there are sufficient numbers, to replace civil man-made law with Muhammad’s “revealed” shariah.

“..the vast majority of Muslims in America are “no different than Catholics or Mormons.””

Why just this morning I was awakened by a Mormon with a Bull Horn, sounding like a suffering cat, calling the community for prayer at their temple. And on my way, fearing my house could be burned if I didn’t, the road was blocked with thousands of Catholics already prostrating in the street. I guess they blocked the street out of respect for the laws of our country. Darn, gotta take a break here – some woman in a short skirt is walking by and my Diety wants me to call her a slut.

    • SteveFinSC says

      Mar 17, 2017 at 2:32 pm

As a frequent listener to Beck’s program, I can say that I’m rather baffled by many of the things that he’s said in the last year. His fear with regard to Trump is that he’s going to set himself up as a dictator by disregarding the Constitution. Thus his concern about internment camps. Beck has always expressed concern with Trumps apparent lack of respect for or ignorance of the Constitution. He feels the man is capable of as many unconstitutional acts as Obama. I have not seen that. Trump is not a professional politician. He is a businessman. When someone asks him what he wants to do, like a businessman, he comes out initially with his most extreme position but then negotiates down to something acceptable to all sides. The media and the Establishment don’t understand that.

As for Beck, I think he is more of a intuitive person than a logical person. He goes with his gut. As a result, he’s going to get it wrong sometimes. He also will make connections that others ignore, because his gut just says that’s the way it feels. I don’t really think there’s any nefarious intent in his statements or positions. I know I wrestled with this past election myself (the primaries anyway), so I can understand someone being unsure of what’s going on sometimes.

  18. Alec Rawls says

    Mar 17, 2017 at 3:28 pm

Trump DOES plan to distinguish, as far as possible, between Islamists and ethnic Muslims who reject violently supremacist Islamic interpretations. That is the meaning of “extreme vetting.” If we can’t determine that a person is NOT a believer in Islamic conquest then he won’t be allowed in. Perfect.

As for the relationship between Islamism and Islam, it’s pretty simple: an Islamist (an aggressively violent Islamic supremacist) is an ORTHODOX Muslim, as defined by a thousand years of Islamic jurisprudence and the Sharia law that it gives rise to. Any Muslim who supports sharia is an Islamist and must be kept out. That is a clear majority of all Muslims living in the West and the vast majority of the current crop of mis-named “refugees” (actually invaders).

All downhill since that time for Beck for me. No better proof for this than what this article relates.

The man is an embarrassment to himself. I predict he’ll never realize this. He’ll go to his grave an uninformed human being (though sadly and most probably a rich one——–damn, sometimes life just isn’t fair).

  22. Kilfincelt says

    Mar 17, 2017 at 6:39 pm

Duh!!! Why does Beck think that Trump wants a temporary ban on people coming in from certain Muslim countries? I thought that Trump was very clear. He wanted the government to do a better job of vetting so that we can determine who is a strong supporter of Islam and who isn’t.

I listened to a recording of Jasser on the Beck radio channel re: alt-jihadists. He said some stuff that was nonsense. He seems to be working hard to somehow make people believe that Islam can be reformed to make it peaceful. He doesn’t seem to believe that Mohammad was a peodiphile, murder, thief, misogynist, etc. except that all the biographies say that he was.

I come down on the side of Robert Spencer. If Islam could be made peaceful, that would be great, but I don’t really believe that will happen. Islam’s texts–Koran, Hadiths, biographies of Mohammad–contain too many incendiary passages for that to happen.

Beck is Mormon. Being Mormon, he is indoctrinated by the mainstream LDS belief that Islam and Mormonism have much in common and have shared histories of persecution. I listened to a lecture by a BYU Mormon professor of Middle Eastern Studies express his deep respect for the Islam “religion.” That feeling is shared by LDS hierarchy.

Beck is indeed a confused, conflicted human being.

We will not overcome the threat of Islam until we can distinguish between “religion” and Islam, which is a fascist political ideology as much as it is a religion. What a fantastically subversive combination of beliefs Islam is in a nation who values “religious” freedoms above all else.

Our Constitution, or the interpretation thereof up to this point, has not considered the implication of an orthodox Islamic insurgency in this country.

Can he explain it? If I were to take him for a walk in Dearborn, Michigan, could he point out, of the muslims we met while walking in the streets, which were “islamists” and which weren’t? If not, he’s just talking a lot without saying a thing.

Very true. Every Muslim is a potential jihadi, stealth or otherwise. They are taught and encouraged to do what Muhammad did: impose Islam on every individual or have them pay the consequences according to Allah, the Qur’an, the Hadith, and Islamic tradition, which includes sharia, jihad, honor killings, taqiyya, slavery and any other means that fit the circumstance.

No True Muslims call themselves “islamists” – they all call each other “muslims” as their founder, Muhammad, taught them to!

As another poster recently noted here, concerning ‘radicalized’ and not-yet-radicalized “islamists” (muslims):

““We have a problem with a poisonous, deadly species of butterfly. But not with the caterpillars of the same species, just with the butterflies”. Doesn’t make any sense, does it?”

No – no, it really doesn’t!

    😉

I used to find some insights in his commentaries but then he became a self-styled arbiter of morality or something and started sounding like a high priest of some anti Trump church. Only Beck knew who was good and who was bad, who to support and who to reject.
I switch off anytine he comes on Patriot. He doesn’t belong on that channel either.

Do ýou remember The Matrix movie?
Everyone inside the Matrix who had not been freed, was a potential AGENT.

I have learned and experienced that every single Muslim is a potential Islamist.

I have spent my precious life to fully learn , experience and understand it. I was a devoted Muslim. And I am sorry I wasted my time in believing in a buch of lies and fabricated history of greatness.

There has never been any great Islamic breakthroughs of knowledge; but there were some scientists under the sword of Islamists.
We have not tasted freedom since the invasion of Islam in 1400 years ago, except for a short period under the late Shah of Iran.
