Only three days ago, the misogynistic M.M. Hassan was appointed by Congress central leadership as interim president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee. This was after V.M. Sudheeran quit the post earlier this month. The Kerala unit works in the state of Kerala as part of the Indian National Congress.
My opinion is that women should not go to temple, mosque or church when their body is impure
Hassan was just stating what Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, says in a hadith: “I do not make the mosque lawful for a menstruating woman and for a person who is sexually defiled.” (Abu Dawud 232)
Nonetheless, his views were met with shock and were quickly dismissed by his party as a personal view, not representative of the party. The problem is that Hassan, as leader, has publicly – and brazenly — declared that women are inferior, so despite the party trying to distance itself, Hassan’s imposed Muslim beliefs have set a risky path for the Indian National Congress, which has already had its fair share of struggles. In 2013, Vice President of the Indian National Congress, Rahul Gandhi, stated of his party: “I am not afraid to say that the Congress has become moribund. It has scarcely a single leader with a modern mind.”

It should not be given other interpretations. During this period, Muslim women do not observe fast. My opinion when theiris that women should not go to temples, mosques when their body is impure,” he said.
A number of students criticised his view. However, Hassan was adamant on his views.
