Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated:
The threat of Shia Islamic terror is directed not only against us, but against the region and the entire world.
Perhaps Israel, more than any other nation, fully understands what “radical Islamic terrorism” is, and its primary goal of obliterating Israel.
“We do not want to see Shia Islamic terrorism led by Iran step in to replace Sunni Islamic terrorism,” Mr Netanyahu told the Russian President.
Iran continues attempts to destroy the Jewish state. They speak of this openly and write this in black and white in their newspapers.
Iran is now in a strategic position to try to destroy Israel directly (instead of through its proxies) as it expands its Shia base into Iraq and Syria.
Netanyahu could also not be clearer in his message that replacing Sunni terrorism with Shia terrorism is counterintuitive. Netanyahu is right about the global danger of mainstream Shia and Sunni terrorism, which is normalized in all too many Islamic states, not just in the Islamic State.
Netanyahu also once stated:
Islamic terrorism is inundating the world and inciting millions in many countries, from Jakarta to Africa to California.
“Iranian Revolutionary Guards opposite Israeli troops on 1967 ceasefire line in Golan Heights as tensions mount,” by Lizzie Dearden, Independent, March 10, 2017:
Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Iran of using the Syrian civil war to “gain a foothold to fight Israel” amid fears over Iranian troops stationed along the border with the occupied Golan Heights.
Tehran is supporting Bashar al-Assad with deployments of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), Basij militia and funding to allied militias including Hezbollah.
The IRGC are now reported to be present in Syrian-government controlled territory along the 1967 ceasefire line in the Golan Heights, which has seen months of Israeli air strikes met with rockets fired towards the Israel Defence Forces (IDF).
Brigadier General Mohammad-Reza Naghdi, a commander in Iran’s Basij force, was pictured surveying the border, while a Shia paramilitary group has formed a “Golan Liberation Brigade”.
Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba, an Iraqi force backed by Iran, is “ready to take action to liberate Golan” from Israeli occupation, according to spokesman quoted by Iranian state media this week.
The deployments have made the Iranian government a major power broker in the Syrian civil war, meeting with Russian and Turkish representatives at ceasefire talks in Astana, Kazakhstan.
In a meeting with Vladimir Putin on Thursday, the Israeli Prime Minister said that any truce must not allow the continued presence of Iranian forces in Syria.
“We do not want to see Shia Islamic terrorism led by Iran step in to replace Sunni Islamic terrorism,” Mr Netanyahu told the Russian President.
“Iran continues attempts to destroy the Jewish state. They speak of this openly and write this in black and white in their newspapers.
“Today, we have our own country and our army, and we can defend ourselves. But I want to say that the threat of Shia Islamic terror is directed not only against us, but against the region and the entire world.”
He told reporters Iran was “arming itself and its forces against Israel including from Syria territory and is, in fact, gaining a foothold to continue the fight against Israel”.
After the meeting, the Israeli Prime Minister said the removal of Iranian forces from Syria were vital to “prevent misunderstandings”.
“I made it clear that regarding Syria, while Israel is not opposed that there should be an agreement there, we strongly oppose the possibility that Iran and its proxies will be left with a military presence in Syria under such an agreement,” Mr Netanyahu added.
A statement released by the Kremlin said he and Mr Putin discussed “joint efforts to combat international terrorism” and examined areas of bilateral cooperation.
Two years ago, Israel and Russia agreed to coordinate military actions over Syria in order to avoid accidentally trading fire but the risk of skirmishes is increasing as pro-Assad forces fight for more territory in the Golan Heights….

There’s an old expression ‘cruising for a bruising’. It applies to Iran. The West needs to find ways to bring about a revolution in Iran and join it to liberate the country from the ayatollah demons.

Unfortunately, many in Russia, whether old communists or – tragically – professing Christians, are *sick* – or, perhaps, demon-possessed – with poisonous Jew-hatred. It was, after all, a *Russian* who created that bizarre and nasty propaganda text, “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion”
Such Jewhatred cripples the soul and warps the mind.
It sickens me – it fills me with fury – to see a HUGE, powerful, wealthy nation like Russia, an *infidel* nation, *SIDING WITH THE VICIOUS MOHAMMEDAN BULLIES** and *protecting them* and basically giving them the tools with which to… .**nuke the world’s one and only, teeny-teeny-tiny* Jewish nation, and *mass-murder* most of the world’s remaining Jews.
it’s obscene. It’s vile. I hate watching it. *Any* Russian who is sitting there hoping to see Israel incinerated by Iranian nukes, is **sick in the head** and **sick in the soul*; they need *exorcism*.
The USA needs to disengage from its dangerous, dead-end, dhimmi-like entanglements with assorted vicious and nasty Sunni Muslim countries – its enablement of *those* countries is stupid and wicked – but *Russia* and *China* need to be put on notice, that playing footsie with, enabling, arming and protecting *Shiite Islamic Iran** and HELPING IT TO GET NUKES with which it can annihilate not only Israel but any other country in the world, is an abysmal and evil folly, second to none.

The Iranian issue and reason for placing their troops on that part of the Israeli-Syrian border is the Golan Heights, which in prior Syrian hands were at a higher elevation than the Israeli farmland that the Golan Heights overlooked. It became a major contention as Syrian guns were firing at the Israeli settlement and farmers working the field below in Israel. First, the Israelis requested that Assad’s military stop firing upon Israel/Israelis which the Syrian-occupied Golan Heights overlooked. But, Syria kept up its artlllery and small arms sniping at anything moving on that Israeli farmland. The Israelis were sustaining casualties working their farm fields, plus the farm settlements adjacent to the farm fields.
Then, one day the Israels stopped making requests which Assad’s regime ignored and kept up its shooting.
Israel troops climbed the Golan Heights, a desperate battle ensued, the Israelis prevailed, driving away the Syrian military, and though I forget the exact date of that battle, the Golan Heights were occupied by Israeli forces since that time, which has been well over ten years. Then, came the Syrian “big brother,” Iran, which now uses the Golan Heights as a reason to fight the battle Assad’s Syrian forces could not successfully fight. It remains to be seen if Iranian forces can drive off the Israelis. What did change was the firing upon Israeli farmers and towns below the Golan stopped and the IDF placed a detachment of its troops, which rotate duty, on those Heights.
The Israelis did not fire upon Syrians after occupying the Golan, as had been the Syrian policy against Israel. Here now is an opportunity for Iran to prove it is a protector of the Syrian regime. This could result in full scale war and I believe Iran wants that to demonstrate its power. Jordan could also be involved as it abuts Golan Heights and Israeli territory. Jordan is mostly Sunni Muslim Arabs, has been at peace with Israel. Syria is on the Shia Muslim Arab side of things, as Iran is as the largest Shia Muslim power.
They continually warn Israel of “obliteration,” and it is no secret that Israel has nuclear weaponry, and has never threatened its use in more than 20+ years of having nuclear weaponry. It is doubtful that Iran has even a shred of interest in the deal it made with the Obama regime. It will do as it wishes, just as it has intimidated the U.S. Navy in the Gulf waters, and was never warned to stop its harassing.. Iran is crazy enough to start what it won’t be able to finish.

Stan? The IDF took the Golan Heights in the Six Day War, in 1967, long before Bashir Assad, or even Assad’s daddy came to power. Israel then officially annexed the Golan, which has never been recognized by the rest of the world. The Syrians tried their best to take it back in the 1973 war, but the IDF drove them back, with hard fighting and heavy losses on both sides. That border has held ever since, the Syrians haven’t wanted another war. The concern is that the Iranians want a war.
You’re usually well informed, so please pardon the correction this time.

Well, here’s a question.
If the Israelis only wanted to keep Syrian snipers and shooters off the Golan, why is Israel carrying out air strikes in the Syrian war? Particularly when those air strikes result in rocket attacks on Israel proper?
Save some of your criticism for the US, which sponsored Syrian rebels pretty much indistinguishable from the Islamic State, throwing Syria into the civil war we now see. The tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of Syrian civilian casualties are collateral damage.
The civil war forced the Assad regime from being an ally of Iran, admittedly problematic, to being a protectorate. That’s great strategy on the part of the US.Of course, that strategy was developed and implemented by the anti-American team of Hillary and Obama, but completely supported by the neocon Republicans who were supposed to win the Republican nomination.
Hopefully, under Trump, the US will just stay out of the action, and let Israel, Russia, the Syrian government, and Iran, work it out for themselves, as the parties most directly affected. If the government of Iran wishes a war for religious purposes, there’s really nothing to be done, and if they’re going to be fried, it should be by Israel, which will not do it halfheartedly. If Iran is deep down, susceptible to their own national interest, they will play fewer games with Israel, which they know will back up their real interests, unlike the US.
I see the whole Syrian civil war as the creature of blundering US support for opposition to the Syrian government. The Obama administration always acted according to the interests of the Muslim Brotherhood, so my supposition is that the overthrow of the Syrian government was intended to put a religious Sunni government in Syria, which is majority Sunni. The Obama administration did not have any fundamental opposition to the Islamic State, except the Islamic State showed the underside of Islam a bit too soon and too graphically.
ElderlyZionist says
I agree with you that Obama administration policy in Syria and elsewhere in the Near East was completely in service to the Muslim Brotherhood and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
There have been only a small number of Israeli airstrikes in Syria. No one will say officially, but it’s understood that these have been strikes on advanced weapons that were being transferred to Hezbollah, in order to prevent the Hezbos from becoming even more of a menace on the Lebanese frontier.
Mark Swan says
On June 9, 1967, Israel moved against Syrian forces on the Golan. By late afternoon, June 10, Israel was in complete control of the plateau. Israel’s seizure of the strategic heights occurred only after 19 years of provocation from Syria, and after unsuccessful efforts to get the international community to act against the aggressors.
Six years later, in a surprise attack on Yom Kippur, the Syrians overran the Golan Heights before being repulsed by Israeli counterattacks. After the war, Syria signed a disengagement agreement that left the Golan in Israel’s hands.
For Israel, relinquishing the Golan to a hostile Syria could jeopardize its early-warning system against surprise attack. Israel has built radars on Mt. Hermon, the highest point in the region. If Israel withdrew from the Golan and had to relocate these facilities to the lowlands of the Galilee, they would lose much of their strategic effectiveness.
Absent dramatic changes in Syria’s government and its attitude toward Israel; however, the Jewish State’s security will depend on its retention of military control over the Golan Heights.
Russia, Iran, Syria, and others will never allow Israel any peace if it is left up to these.
Things in Syria have changed for the worse, with Russia and Iran taking over there.
Israel should never consider giving up the Golan to anyone.
America should stand right beside Israel on this.
Walter Sieruk says
It really should be of no actual surprise the Iran’s gang of ruthless and murderous thugs who are called the”Revolutionary Guards ” and backed by those vicious mullahs and other Muslim fanatics in power in Iran should try as far as they are able to “Destroy the Jewish State of Israel.” For they don’t think twine before destroying as in murdering even their own people in Iran . So how much less,if possible do they care about the lives of the Jews. To give one example out of many of who heinously murderous those “guards” are even to their own people is the following.
That heinously cruel and murderous Islamic tyranny of Iran is very brutal and vicious to the Iranian people. Especially regarding females. Both girls and women. For example a teenage girl in Iran was talking to her boyfriend on the phone and then the Islamic state “police” walked over to her and shot her dead. They did that wicked and malicious thing to her because she was talking to her boyfriend and they also didn’t like her clothing. [1] That was a clear cut case of murder and vicious Islamic madness by Iran’s Islamic state “ police”, who call themselves the “Revolutionary Guards”, they got away with their hideous and malice –filled evil because the mullahs as well as other villains in power in that tyrannical Islamic regime

The whole of the Golan Heights – and that word “Golan” is in fact an ancient *Hebrew* place-name, which tells you how long it has been associated with the House of Israel, since long, long, long before the rise of Islam – is military high ground.
Israel took it in defensive warfare.
Israel must keep it.
It is part of Israel. It is part of eretz Yisroel. And that is that.
*Any* entity or person who demands that the Golan be given to the Muslims, is someone who desires the death of lots and lots of Jews.
Anyone who claims to be a friend or ally of Israel *has* to be made to understand that, to survive longterm in the face of neverending genocidal jihad, Israel *must* possess and control strategic depth and military high ground: to wit – all of the Golan Heights; all of Judea and Samaria and the Jordan valley; and all of Jerusalem, including Temple mount and mOunt of Olives. That is the bare minimum.
Israel should * never* have been forced to give up the Sinai, either.
