Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Reza Aslan eats human brains, but it’s unlikely to help

Mar 7, 2017 6:02 pm By Robert Spencer

It is said that one justification among cannibals for cannibalism is that the virtues and powers of the person being eaten will pass to the eater. And so it is oddly fitting that Reza Aslan would feature himself on his CNN show eating human brain tissue; he is, after all, a profoundly stupid man, whose adulation only shows how far one can go if one tells the establishment propaganda media what it wants to hear.

But it’s unlikely to help. Aslan’s controversial meal won’t stop him from making his regular howling errors of fact. Among them: this “scholar of religions” has made the ridiculous claim that the idea of resurrection “simply doesn’t exist in Judaism,” despite numerous passages to the contrary in the Hebrew Scriptures. He has also referred to “the reincarnation, which Christianity talks about” — although he later claimed that one was a “typo.” In yet another howler he later insisted was a “typo,” he claimed that the Biblical story of Noah was barely four verses long — which he then corrected to forty, but that was wrong again, as it is 89 verses long. Aslan claimed that the “founding philosophy of the Jesuits” was “the preferential option for the poor,” when in reality, that phrase wasn’t even coined until 1968. He called Turkey the second most populous Muslim country, when it is actually the eighth most populous Muslim country. He thinks Pope Pius XI, who issued the anti-fascist encyclical Mit Brennender Sorge, was a fascist. He thinks Marx and Freud “gave birth to the Enlightenment,” when it ended in the late 18th century, before either of them were born. He claims that “the very first thing that Muhammad did was outlaw slavery,” when in fact Muhammad bought slaves, took female captives as sex slaves, and owned slaves until his death. He thinks Ethiopia and Eritrea are in Central Africa.

A “renowned religious scholar” such as Reza Aslan should not make such elementary mistakes. But this is, of course, the man who writes “than” for “then”; apparently thinks the Latin word “et” is an abbreviation; and writes “clown’s” for “clowns.”

Even if Aslan starts consuming human brains every day, he is unlikely to get any more intelligent. But it doesn’t matter, anyway: for CNN, his “scholar of religions” persona is no less of a prop than Rob Petrie’s hassock; his “Believer” show is simply a vehicle for the delivering the messages that CNN wants you to believe about religion in general, immigration, and Islam and Muslim immigrants in particular.

And that’s why the outrage is so shrill and pained against Aslan for this episode of “Believer”: it is dreadfully off-message, and not just off-message, but against the message. Or at least that’s how the establishment Left sees it. Vamsee Juluri, a media studies professor at the University of San Francisco, wrote in the Huffington Post: “It is unbelievably callous and reckless of CNN to be pushing sensational and grotesque images of bearded brown men and their morbid and deathly religion at a time when the United States is living through a period of unprecedented concern and fear.”

This is so ridiculous it is staggering, but it makes sense once one enters the mindset of the Left. For the likes of Vamsee Juluri (and Reza Aslan, and CNN), President Trump and those who support his immigration ban are motivated solely by a racist hatred for “bearded brown men” and a provincial distaste for their “morbid and deathly religion.” Genuine concern to prevent acts of jihad terror in the United States? Pshaw! It’s a religion of peace! In the mind of Vamsee Juluri, Americans are redneck yahoos who don’t know or care about the differences between Hinduism and Islam, and since they deny that Islam has a political, expansionist, violent, supremacist component, they don’t believe anyone could be concerned about that. Aslan’s show is just going to make these idiot racists hate brown people even more, doncha know.

The bright spot in all this appalling idiocy is that the establishment media adulation of Reza Aslan, as charming a cannibal as he is, may be coming to an end. Meanwhile, as Campus Watch points out, the “grief” Aslan is receiving for his cannibalism is a fine example of…the Left eating its own.

“Reza Aslan, host of CNN’s ‘Believer,’ catches grief for showcasing religious cannibals in India,” by Ben Guarino, Washington Post, March 6, 2017:

Religion scholar Reza Aslan ate cooked human brain tissue with a group of cannibals in India during Sunday’s premiere of the new CNN show “Believer,” a documentary series about spirituality around the globe.

The outcry was immediate. Aslan, a Muslim who teaches creative writing at the University of California at Riverside, was accused of “Hinduphobia” and of mischaracterizing Hindus.

“With multiple reports of hate-fueled attacks against people of Indian origin from across the U.S., the show characterizes Hinduism as cannibalistic, which is a bizarre way of looking at the third largest religion in the world,” lobbyist group U.S. India Political Action Committees said in a statement, according to the Times of India.

In the episode, Aslan meets up with a sect of Indian religious nomads outside the city of Varanasi in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. The Aghori, as they are known, reject the Hindu caste system and the notion of untouchables, and espouse that the distinction between purity and pollution is essentially meaningless. In the Aghori view, nothing can taint the human body, Aslan said.

“Kind of a profound thought. Also: A little bit gross,” said Aslan, whose bestselling books on religion include “Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth.”

The Aghori persuade Aslan to bathe in the Ganges, a river that Hindus considers sacred. An Aghori guru smears the ashes of cremated humans on his face. And, at the Aghori’s invitation, Aslan drinks alcohol from a human skull and eats what was purported to be a bit of human brain.

“Want to know what a dead guy’s brain tastes like? Charcoal,” Aslan wrote on Facebook. “It was burnt to a crisp!”

At one point, the interview soured and one cannibal threatened Aslan: “I will cut off your head if you keep talking so much.” Aslan, in turn, said to his director, “I feel like this may have been a mistake.”

And when the guru began to eat his own waste and hurl it at Aslan and his camera crew, the CNN host scurried away.

“Pretty sure that was not the Aghori I was looking for,” he said.

Aslan also interviewed several non-cannibal Aghori practitioners, including those who ran an orphanage and a group of volunteers who cared for people with leprosy. Still, some critics thought the focus on the flesh-eating Aghori was inappropriate and done for the shock value.

“It is unbelievably callous and reckless of CNN to be pushing sensational and grotesque images of bearded brown men and their morbid and deathly religion at a time when the United States is living through a period of unprecedented concern and fear,” Vamsee Juluri, a media studies professor at the University of San Francisco, wrote in the Huffington Post….

Is that the same disease as “kuru?” I read an article several decades ago about some island society that kept giving itself a ghastly brain disease called “kuru.” They practiced ritual cannibalism. I can’t remember if they ate dead relatives’ brains or those of slaughtered enemies. The disease was pretty awful.
CNN had just better make sure that moron covers the weirdness of Islam as well as other religious craziness. There’s nothing like a horrid example to turn a viewer or reader away from certain paths.

Back, a long time ago, when the Syrian Civil war was still in either its infancy or early childhood-long before ISIS, some ” freedom fighters” aka terrorists, killed some of Assad’s soldiers.

Then, cut their bodies open, and gorged themselves on the hearts and (I think) other body organs, of thsoe that they killed.

Grotesque- and, in my opinion, showed what animals many Muslims are.

Currently, many Americans are not aware of what behaviors are approved by Muslims; that information has been covered up by the MSM and other liberals for decades.

      Mar 8, 2017 at 11:20 am

Let’s hope we get a random actress who is capable of researching the qualifiers for a group to be labeled a cult.

Then she can tell us how Islam meets all of those qualifiers, including the one that most cults do not meet: Human sacrifice.

I can hear people saying “what?” But those same people have no problem labeling as human sacrifice the murder of an innocent victim by witches who call to their moon goddess to witness and approve the murder, or Satanists who call to Satan to witness a murder. Why are Muslims so protected that we won’t label them calling to Allah to witness and approve a murder “human sacrifice”? The only difference is the name of the entity called upon to witness a murder.

Islam gets protections because it is allegedly a religion and uses those protections to destroy western civilization. Making an issue of their practice of human sacrifice may be the only way we can get Islam “de-frocked” as a religion, and re-labeled as a cult, which would remove the protections, and make it easier for us to get rid of Islam in America.

Found this on Line, see link below:

Yet the scholars Ahmad and Dawoud protested by saying that prophet Mohammad said, “Breaking the bones of a dead body is like breaking the bones of a live body. Al-Shafie said, “One may eat the flesh of a human body. It is not allowed to kill a Muslim nor a free non-Muslim under Muslim rule (because he is useful for the society), nor a prisoner because he belongs to other Muslims. But you may kill an enemy fighter or an adulterer and eat his body”.

But Imam El-Shefie was more clear and he courageously said, “Human flesh may be eaten”. He added, “An enemy fighter or an adulterer may be killed and his flesh be eaten”. More seriously, Dawoud protested against Al-Muzni saying, “If you allowed the eating of the flesh of the prophets (sarcastically I say, “for fear that they would not be slaughtered in the Islamic way”), you should also allow eating the flesh of the infidels”. The final verdict for him, “Human flesh should not be eaten unless that would safe the life of the eater from starving to death and Allah knows best”.

More seriously, though–if Muslim supremacist Aslan is depicting Hinduism as a cannibal religion, what is he doing to other faiths? I imagine there is a big whitewash of Islam, and much smearing of the Infidels as possible.

I have not watched “Believer” for this very reason.

Two things about the Aghori–firstly, they are a tiny fringe sect whose practices are rejected by most mainstream Hindus. And then, as unpleasant as their practices are, the bodies they consume or use in worship all come from those who have died independently.

Would that the same were true of cannibalism *in Islam*:

“Islamic State teaching its jihadis to eat non-Muslims”

    https://www.jihadwatch.org/2017/02/islamic-state-teaching-its-jihadis-to-eat-non-muslims

Al Azhar itself–the chief seat of Sunni scholarship–teaches that Muslims can *murder* and eat Infidels, other-sect Muslims, and those accused of adultery not just when they are hungry, but as punishment for not behaving as orthodox Sunnis.

This utter savagery makes the aghori look positively civilized in comparison.

Reza may not know about the kuru disease.

from MedlinePlus, “the National Institutes of Health’s Web site for patients and their families and friends”.

“Kuru is a disease of the nervous system.

    Causes
Kuru is a very rare disease. It is caused by an infectious protein found in contaminated human brain tissue.

Kuru is found among people from New Guinea who practiced a form of cannibalism in which they ate the brains of dead people as part of a funeral ritual. This practice stopped in 1960, but cases of kuru were reported for many years afterward because the disease has a long incubation period. The incubation period is the time it takes for symptoms to appear after being exposed to the agent that causes disease.

Kuru causes brain and nervous system changes similar to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Similar diseases appear in cows as bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), also called mad cow disease.

The main risk factor for kuru is eating human brain tissue, which can contain the infectious particles.

    Symptoms
    Symptoms of kuru include:

    Arm and leg pain
    Coordination problems that become severe
    Difficulty walking
    Headache
    Swallowing difficulty
    Tremors and muscle jerks
Difficulty swallowing and being unable to feed oneself can lead to malnutrition or starvation.

The average incubation period is 10 to 13 years, but incubation periods of 50 years or even longer have been reported.

    Exams and Tests
A neurologic exam may show changes in coordination and walking ability.

    Treatment
There is no known treatment for kuru.

    Outlook (Prognosis)
Death usually occurs within 1 year after the first sign of symptoms.”

      • Gen Jones says

        Mar 8, 2017 at 12:54 am

Agreed on no cure for Aslan, Graven but the scary aspect of spongiform encephalopathy is that the distorted prion that characterizes the disease cannot be killed by heat. Incinerating sheep and cow carcasses during the mad cow outbreak in the U.K. wasn’t enough to iradicate or render harmless the remains.

        • gravenimage says

          Mar 8, 2017 at 8:54 pm

You may be right, Gen–I had thought that incinerating (not just cooking) the remains was sufficient, but I might be wrong.

In any case, Aslan is a barbarian.

      • Jeanette says

        Mar 8, 2017 at 11:40 am

If he is safe, it is more likely because the victim didn’t have the disease, unless the body was cremated at 900 F for four hours.

“Prions can be destroyed through incineration providing the incinerator can maintain a temperature of 900 F for four hours. In an autoclave, prions can be deactivated by using a temperature of 270 F at 21 psi for 90 minutes. If the infectious material is in a solution of sodium hydroxide, deactivation will occur after one hour at 250 F and 21 psi.

A commercial disinfectant called Environ LpH also has been shown to be effective at deactivating prions. Prion disinfection occurs with a 1 percent solution of LpH for 10 hours or with a 10 percent LpH solution for one hour.”

If you live in Europe you will probably remember the “mad cow” disease and the millions of cattle killed to prevent is spread. The biological factor involved is called “prions”, a type of proteins clogging brain matter.

Back to Reza and cannibalism here a description of “kuru”:

“Kuru is a very rare, incurable neurodegenerative disorder which was prevalent among the Fore people of Papua New Guinea in the 1950s and 60s. Kuru is caused by the transmission of abnormally folded prion proteins, which leads to symptoms such as tremors, loss of coordination, and neurodegeneration.”

“It is now widely accepted that kuru was transmitted among members of the Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea via funerary cannibalism. Deceased family members were traditionally cooked and eaten, which was thought to help free the spirit of the dead.”

You see – there are rational explanations for Reza’s erratic behaviour.

Oh indeed! Anything that doesn’t fit with the “All religions are equally good (except Christianity which is uniquely wicked)” narrative should have ended up on the cutting-room floor.

Then back to pushing sensational and grotesque images of bearded WHITE men and THEIR “morbid and deathly religion”.

Nothing “callous” or “reckless” in that, of course!

Aslan is using the time tested trick of digression to deflect from how famatical followers of one religion now pose a risk to all of humanity.

Invading rulers of this religion slaughtered approximately 80 million Hindus over a period of a thousand years. They destroyed tens of thousands of beautiful works of Hindu sculpture (their temples), raped their women and, generally, wrought havoc on a gentle people.

One of their most brutal and sadistic emperors was Aurangazeb. Ironically, it is Islamic historians who have best recorded the unchecked marauding during Aurangazeb’s reign.

FACT, is the Aurangazeb Museum; and if you google it, you’ll gain access to the documents by Islamic historians that record, with not a small modicum of smug satisfaction, the mass murder of Hindus and the destruction of Hindu temples by Aurangazeb.

In continuation of my previous post, here’s an article by Francois Gautier, former South Asia correspondent for Me Figaro, detailing the inhuman atrocities and genocide perpetrated by Muslim rulers on Hindus in India for over a thousand years. Gautier calls it The Hindu Holocaust. India’s belligerent leftist brigade doesn’t allow this to be so much as mentioned in textbooks or public discourse:

Normally Robert Spencer is on point but he’s missed the mark on this one. He quotes Vamsee Juluri as saying:

“It is unbelievably callous and reckless of CNN to be pushing sensational and grotesque images of bearded brown men and their morbid and deathly religion at a time when the United States is living through a period of unprecedented concern and fear.”

Spencer then seems to imply that the “religion” mentioned in the above quote is Islam. It is not Islam. The “religion” which Juluri is referring to is that of the “aghoras” which was the subject of Reza Aslan’s “Believer” episode.

From this erroneous conclusion, Spencer attempts to portray Juluri as a defender of Aslan, but nowhere does engage in any defense or apologetic on Aslan’s behalf.

    Thus, when Juluri says:

“In the last few days, three Hindus and one Sikh have been shot in America, two of them fatally. Threats and bomb scares are circulating widely. This is a time when other cultures should be humanized and depicted with care by the mainstream news media.

And yet, CNN, for all its supposedly principled stand against anti-immigrant politics, is going to make Monday morning miserable and fearful for thousands of innocent people in America.

Not the allegedly anti-immigrant politicians and media. Not Breitbart, not Fox News, nor even that reckless Twitter handle that has replaced traditional press briefings. But CNN.”

He’s clearly calling out CNN (and Aslan) for presenting a show where “other cultures” (in this case, the Hindus and Sikhs) should be depicted with care. This is not a defense of Islam or a critique of so-called Islamophobia. Nor is it implied.

    Next, Juluri says:

“But what is even more callous is the fact that CNN and Reza Aslan seem oblivious to the kind of discomfort and even danger that images like this could create for South Asians, Sikhs, Muslims and other brown people in America.”

This is true except Juluri forgot to mention Hindus and Jains. The recent killings of an 2 Indian Hindus and the shooting of a Sikh (who survived) in the US was purely motivated by an animus towards those who were perceived to be of a certain religion (Islam) represented by a certain race (“Middle Eastern”).

Most Americans cannot tell you the difference between a Muslim, Jain, Hindu, Sikh, or some other religion and it is foolish to think that they have this discernment. To many, these are just brown people.

Usually Robert Spencer gets it right but this time he struck out. It happens.

I don’t think Robert Spencer is implying what you say he is about Vamsee Juluri at all, Truth Seeker. I’m not sure where you are getting this from–certainly not the article above.

He is talking about Aslan vilifying non-Muslim faiths–he makes that clear in his follow-up article here:

“Reza Aslan’s agenda: showing Hinduism and Christianity as violent, Islam as peaceful”

Here are the correct links detailing Islamic barbarism in India:

    http://www.fact-India.com
    http://www.aurangzeb.info

Francois Gautier says that 400 million Hindus were massacred by Muslim rulers, and not 80 million, as I earlier mentioned.

Indian history textbooks have suppressed these figures for decades, with perspicuous and persistent help from India’s leftists; and, now, with the collusion of the media. As well, with the help of American academics, whom I will not name here, but who are well known.

British historians have also recorded the sheer brutality and scale of the Hindu genocide in India at the hands of the Muslims.

Mainstream America and Europe need to be made aware of the compassionate activities of the religion of peace in India.

Whatever the exact numbers, the toll on Hindus from the Muslim invasion was horrific.
