Chechen authorities are arresting and killing gay men

Apr 2, 2017 7:43 pm By Robert Spencer

Extremist? No. The Qur’an contains numerous condemnations of homosexual activity: “And [We had sent] Lot when he said to his people, ‘Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds? Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people.’…And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]. Then see how was the end of the criminals.” (Qur’an 7:80-84)

Muhammad specifies the punishment for this in a hadith: “The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Whoever you find doing the action of the people of Loot, execute the one who does it and the one to whom it is done.’” (Sunan Abu Dawud 4462)

“Chechen Authorities Arresting and Killing Gay Men, Russian Paper Says,” by Andrew E. Kramer, New York Times, April 1, 2017 (thanks to Thomas):

MOSCOW — First, two television reporters vanished. Then a waiter went missing. Over the past week, men ranging in age from 16 to 50 have disappeared from the streets of Chechnya.

On Saturday, a leading Russian opposition newspaper confirmed a story already circulating among human rights activists: The Chechen authorities were arresting and killing gay men.

While abuses by security services in the region, where Russia fought a two-decade war against Islamic insurgents, have long been a stain on President Vladimir V. Putin’s human rights record, gay people had not previously been targeted on a wide scale.

The men were detained “in connection with their nontraditional sexual orientation, or suspicion of such,” the newspaper, Novaya Gazeta, reported, citing Russian federal law enforcement officials, who blamed the local authorities.

By Saturday, the paper reported, and an analyst of the region with her own sources confirmed, that more than 100 gay men had been detained. The newspaper had the names of three murder victims, and suspected many others had died in extrajudicial killings.

A spokesman for Chechnya’s leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, denied the report in a statement to Interfax on Saturday, calling the article “absolute lies and disinformation.”

“You cannot arrest or repress people who just don’t exist in the republic,” the spokesman, Alvi Karimov, told the news agency.

“If such people existed in Chechnya, law enforcement would not have to worry about them, as their own relatives would have sent them to where they could never return,” Mr. Karimov said.

The sweep, like so much else in Russian politics today, was entangled in the country’s troubled politics of street activism.

It began, Novaya Gazeta reported, after a Moscow-based gay rights group, GayRussia.ru, applied for permits to stage gay pride parades in four cities in Russia’s predominantly Muslim North Caucasus region, of which Chechnya is a part.

The group had not focused on the Muslim areas. It had been applying for permits for gay parades in provincial cities around Russia, and collecting the inevitable denials, in order to build a case about gay rights and freedom of assembly with the European Court of Human Rights, in Strasbourg, France. It had applied to more than 90 municipal governments. Nikolai Alekseev, a gay rights activist coordinating this effort, told Novaya Gazeta he had chosen this tactic rather than staging risky, unsanctioned gay parades.

The group had not applied for a permit in Chechnya, but in another Muslim region in southern Russia, Kabardino-Balkaria. The mere application there — denied, as usual — had prompted an anti-gay counterdemonstration.

In the restive Muslim regions, Mr. Putin has empowered local leaders to press agendas of traditional Muslim values, to co-opt an Islamist underground. The gay pride parade applications became a galvanizing issue.

“In Chechnya, the command was given for a ‘prophylactic sweep’ and it went as far as real murders,” Novaya Gazeta reported….

“In the restive Muslim regions, Mr. Putin has empowered local leaders to press agendas of traditional Muslim values, to co-opt an Islamist underground.”

How are ‘traditional Muslim values,’ and ‘Islamist underground’ different?

He says go ahead and establish Sharia law, basically … so that the ‘Islamist underground’ doesn’t establish Sharia law?

These gays were either very brave, or very ignorant … Unfortunately now they are dead.

Sharia law. It’s everywhere you don’t want to be.

These gays, in my view were not either very brave or very ignorant. THEY WERE VERY STUPID.

The were trying to get enough vetoes to protest to the European Court of Human Rights. I think a country (ANY COUNTRY) has the right to deny permits for a parade, if it (the parade) could lead to unrest; or violence or mayhem. I don’t think that there is a given right to have a GAY PRIDE PARADE at any time, or any place, that some “gay activist leader” thinks that there should be one. AND THERE WERE SOME 90 DENIALS. HOW MANY MORE DID THEY NEED??

i am not condoning the killings, but these people have-in my view-or had, rather- the IQ of a rotted potato.

Jihadi John, I agree, to say that gays are ok to kill, that means when they run out of gays, it is Christians, Jews, Mental patients, elderly, sick kids, who ever, what ever, for the benefit of Islam… The Muslim tyrants use their filthy Koran to rid themselves of whatever sounds good, today… Same old Islam….just like their forefathers, Nazi followers, no wonder they were friends.

I never said Ok to kill gays.

i said, that they were stupid to try and hold gay pride parades in Muslim areas.

They have 90 rejections. How many more did they need or want?

JJ– I AM NEITHER MUSLIM NOR HOMOPHOBIC.

I have had friends who were gay; and still do. However- they have NINETY REJECTIONS- and then they want to go to a Muslim AREA AND HAVE A GAY PRIDE PARADE?

Yes, they have to be -IN MY OPINION–stupid.

        …………………

In that case, you must also be in favor of Western authorities imposing Shari’ah law in any “Muslim area” if it would lead to Muslim unrest, violence, or mayhem.

Don’t you realize that this means that all Muslims need to do is threaten violence, and the Infidels will have to enforce Shari’ah law?

Forget gay parades–what about something like a St. Patrick’s Day parade? Banned. Christian preaching? Banned. What about women being allowed to walk the streets without headscarves? Banned. What about food festivals featuring pork or beer? Banned. Art shows including cartoons of the “Prophet”? Banned.

How dare Infidels try to exercise their rights in a “Muslim area”?

As I read it-it was a more or less Muslim MAJORITY country. (Or province)– AND THEY HAD 90 DENIALS.

It is not as a St Patrick’s Day parade- – and the proponents of the parade apparently knew that it would be turned down.

And, is Chechnya a separate country, or merely a Muslim province? Either way, hold the parade in a cosmopolitan area-if to hold one, my view.

Few people are truly Islamophobic. A phobia is an irrational fear. Fear of Islam, and what Islam does, is not irrational. It is perfectly rational. It is not a phobia.

Just happened in the Netherlands: two gay men were attacked in the town of Arnheim, by a bunch of Maroccan youth, for no other reason than holding hands when they returned to their home. They married together years ago. One of them is missing five of his teeth, he was attacked with lawn cutting scissors – the kind you would use to cut branches from trees. It may as well be called an attack on his life. The gay organisation COC refused to depict Maroccans as a group that is mostly represented in anti gay violence, although the facts show otherwise: 17 percent of suspects are Maroccan although only 2 percent of the Dutch population is a Maroccan. Gay people now fear for their safety here.

FB is doing its best to pin this all on Putin and Russia in general instead of on the shariah law that demands it. Let’s get this straight–nothing in Christian theology says gays should be killed or imprisoned. Salafist Islam, on the other hand, flat out says they should be killed.

Chechen authorities are arresting and killing gay men
    ………………………

    *Horrifying*–but mainstream Islam.

    More:

The men were detained “in connection with their nontraditional sexual orientation, or suspicion of such…
    ………………………

Yes–the victims are not necessarily actually homosexual. In the past, we have seen people killed for being suspected of “being gay” for wearing jeans, goatees, or enjoying Emo music or poetry.

    More:

A spokesman for Chechnya’s leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, denied the report in a statement to Interfax on Saturday, calling the article “absolute lies and disinformation.”

“You cannot arrest or repress people who just don’t exist in the republic,” the spokesman, Alvi Karimov, told the news agency.
    ………………………

So, like Iran’s Ahmadinejad, Kadyrov is pretending that there are no homosexuals in Chechnya.

And Iran’s alleged lack of gay people does not prevent them from hanging those accused of homosexuality to death, either.

    More:

“If such people existed in Chechnya, law enforcement would not have to worry about them, as their own relatives would have sent them to where they could never return,” Mr. Karimov said.
    ………………………

Kadyrov has before slyly condoned women being “Honor Killed” by their families, and that is basically what Karimov is doing here. *Ugh*.

Where is Christianblood to tell us how ‘moderate’ Islam is in Chechnya?

Graven–In my opinion, “You cannot arrest or repress people who just don’t exist in the republic,” the spokesman, Alvi Karimov, told the news agency.
      ………………………

So, like Iran’s Ahmadinejad, Kadyrov is pretending that there are no homosexuals in Chechnya.

My interpretation of the statement- arrest or repress people who DON’T EXIST IN THE REPUBLIC (my emphasis)- THE PEOPLE DON’T EXIST BECAUSE THEY WERE KILLED. WITHOUT THE BOTHER OF BEING ARRESTED AND THEIR BEING A PAPER TRAIL.

That is my interpretation of the statement.

      Consider the follow up-the families—etc

His words also remind me of Ahmadinajad’s comments about no gays in Iran. If that were true (big “if”), then honor-killing gays is pretty wide-spread in Sharia Land.

As Muslims demand more Sharia law, they will come in conflict with modernity. Russia should develop a program for deprogramming Muslims right out of Islam.
