Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Hijabbed Muslim journalist complains that when she accepts media award, viewers will see only her hijab

Apr 29, 2017 6:15 pm By Robert Spencer

Victimhood status is currency these days. If you’re a victim, all manner of doors open to you that might otherwise have remained closed: doors to the adulation of the Left; doors to free passes from scrutiny (legal or otherwise) that you might otherwise have received; doors to a privileged status that elevates you above ordinary non-victim folk. And few, if any, groups are more skilled and indefatigable at pursuing victim status than Islamic advocacy groups in the U.S. They have successfully established in the public discourse the wholesale fiction that Muslimas who wear hijab are routinely insulted, harassed, and brutalized in the United States. This piece is an extension of that endeavor, sans (as always) the insults, harassment, and brutalization.

Sawsan Morrar, an award-winning hijab-wearing journalist, says: “Those who tune in to watch this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday will hear my name called as I take the stage to accept a journalism scholarship. They won’t see my portfolio of work, and they will likely forget my name. But they’re sure to notice and remember one thing about me: my headscarf.”

Maybe so. But isn’t that the idea? Isn’t wearing the hijab a proclamation to the world that here is a Muslim woman who is preserving her modesty and piety, in contrast to the non-Muslim women who are walking around with heads uncovered? If Sawsan Morrar wants to be remembered for something other than the hijab, there is one simple way to ensure that: don’t wear it.

She also says: “And as I prepare to attend, I know some at the event may not perceive me as a fellow reporter who, like them, relishes the thought of meeting journalists I admire. Muslims don’t have the luxury of being a fusion of their achievements, interests and uniqueness. Rather, in the eyes of others, we are only Muslim.”

On what does she base this claim? Nothing whatsoever, of course. But this is the Washington Post during the Trump administration, so anything goes for Muslims wishing to claim victim status.

Morrar concludes: “I do hope that when I am called on stage at the dinner, I will be recognized for my achievements in journalism and not used to portray some striking juxtaposition between the Trump administration and the Muslim community.”

Don’t kid yourself, Ms. Morrar, about your helpful Leftist comrades and allies. They will smile, they will congratulate you, they will praise your achievements, whatever they may be, and however large or small. But your being a Muslim, and a hijabi at that, is the only reason why you’re there. To the White House Correspondents’ Association, your only purpose and value is that you are a Muslim who wears a hijab, and thus constitute for the Leftists of that association a virtue-signaling rebuke to President Trump. If you had taken off your hijab and converted to Christianity or became an atheist, would you have been chosen as a 2017 White House Correspondents’ Association Scholar? Not in a million years.

“When I’m honored for my journalism, everyone will see one thing: My headscarf,” by Sawsan Morrar, Washington Post, April 28, 2017:

Sawsan Morrar, a multimedia journalist at the University of California at Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, was chosen as a 2017 White House Correspondents’ Association Scholar.

Those who tune in to watch this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday will hear my name called as I take the stage to accept a journalism scholarship. They won’t see my portfolio of work, and they will likely forget my name. But they’re sure to notice and remember one thing about me: my headscarf.

Some may call it symbolic that a Muslim American journalist will be recognized at the annual dinner the same year that President Trump declined to attend. Trump is breaking from a long tradition of presidents meeting with the award recipients.

And as I prepare to attend, I know some at the event may not perceive me as a fellow reporter who, like them, relishes the thought of meeting journalists I admire. Muslims don’t have the luxury of being a fusion of their achievements, interests and uniqueness. Rather, in the eyes of others, we are only Muslim….

I do hope that when I am called on stage at the dinner, I will be recognized for my achievements in journalism and not used to portray some striking juxtaposition between the Trump administration and the Muslim community….

OK, you wear the ULTIMATE, medieval symbol of PATRIARCHY and SERVITUDE in the world today.

By wearing the uniform of FGM, child marriage, second-class status for women, second-class status for dirty kafirs, Jew hatred, draconian, discriminatory Sharia law, religious discrimination and persecution of Jews, Christians and Zoroastrians, the extermination of atheists, agnostics and polytheists, YOU ARE MAKING A STATEMENT THAT YOU ENDORSE THOSE THINGS.

What STATEMENT is your PATRIARCHAL, SUPREMACIST VEIL actually making, dear young lady?

What statement are you making besides ALL THE ABOVE that I have listed?

You endorse dozens of doctrines that are IRRECONCILABLE with modernity.

Indeed, mortimer, the hijab is a symbol and this woman knows she is making a statement by wearing it.

The hijab represents doctrines that are IRRECONCILABLE with all men and women of good will for all time and eternity. We can not respect what it represents.

I disagree. I wouldn’t mind a woman dressing this way, if she was a catholic nun representing Christianity. It’s the religion that doesn’t fit.

Benedict, it’s true nuns dress in a similar fashion but I’ve never heard one whine about someone “noticing” their dress upon receiving some type of -in this case a circle jerk- award. I think she’s a punk looking to elevate a herself into a Linda Sarsour style profile.

I wonder if the hypocrite knows the make-up on her face is haram.

ABSOLUTELY SO! They hide behind their religion while they plot murders and uprisings against regular people. Islam is a mental disorder and Muhammad was crafty in weaving his ‘religion’ with killing. I’d like to see his supersonic horse, or was it a mule?

yes, when you are out demanding that criticism of Islam should be verboten and that society has to comply to all your wishes because you are a superior Muslim being, this is how people will react – they will become disgusted and angry at Muslims in general. And sick of the excuses that all the violence and atrocities committed by Muslims around the world that Muslims say isn’t really Islam. So the blasphemy laws in Pakistan aren’t Islam? The two major state sponsors of terrorism, Iran and Saudi Arabia, aren’t Islam? The killing of gays and stoning of girls in these countries – this is not Islam? The killing of Christians all over the Muslim world by Muslims is not Islam? The Imams in Canadian mosques calling for the death of our Jewish neighbours is not Islam? Imam Bilal Philips in Canada saying it is ok for a 50 year old to marry a 9 year old isn’t Islam? The real backlash hasn’t even started yet – Muslims better start reforming Islam and start protesting against the intolerable atrocities Muslims are committing all over the world. Your cry of victimhood will soon wear thin.

Non-muslim journalists who would have the “b…s” to pull a stunt like this would be laughed off the stage. Why is this not being done with this idiot of a woman? OMG, I’m heartily sick and tired of all the West’s appeasement of barbaric Islam.

EVIDENCE OF RESURRECTION OF JESUS, IN THE SHROUD OF TURIN by Joseph Amalraj.

The Conclusion of Scientist on Jesus Shroud of Turin. It shows that within a short time of burial,
an event occurred, when the body was floating inside the Shroud (which was held flat) and the image on the Shroud was produced, this should be considered as evidence to the resurrection
of Jesus and it corroborates the account of the Gospel written in the Bible.

She’s wrong. I, for one, am interested in the brain underneath such symbolic and self-centered headgear. Is it good to be a self-oppressed but accepted member of a supremacist cult? Does that make up for it all to you (or to the rest of the world)? My attention is drawn to the virtue-signalling headgear because it indicates willful disassociation from the kafir culture that now harbours you (Islam comes first, right?).

They say two things rise to the top – shit and cream. to be brutally frank, your headgear gets first attention because it seems to indicate to most knowledgeable non-Muslims that shit is rising to the top and we truly don’t like seeing this.

Hilarious. Does anyone, even progressives, doubt for a second that her wearing a hijab, is more important than even her literacy? It’s certainly is. To get the joke one has to notice she is wearing the hijab. The correspondents dinner has always been about poking fun.

If she wanted to really shake things up and pull a fast one on the attending journalists, then she should have lost her hijab, had her hair done up nice, and wear a very pretty dress with a modicum of modesty, and not that of overreaching pretense of modesty Islam likes.

Anyway Robert, Who actually believes that Modesty has anything to do with the Islamic requirement to cover yourself with your outer garment? Where in the Koran or Hadith does it point to modesty? I only see Chapter 33 Verse 59, that recommends Islamic women cover themselves with their outer garment so it is known (by the islamic conquerors) that these women are not to be harassed. The reason for this behavior is to set themselves apart, clearly as what we could easily call kaffirophobia. They can NOT be mistaken as kaffir women.

  13. Wellington says

    Apr 29, 2017 at 7:25 pm

Ah, the poor dear. She so needs a pity party.

Ditto for someone accepting an award and sporting a swastika because the hijab is one of several sartorial Muslim equivalents of the swastika. There are indeed others in this regard, like the moronic skull cap, the glorified garbage bag known as the burqa, and a silly man in, effectively, a long dress.

Sartorial expression often conveys a great deal. The hijab, I would contend, is such a sartorial expression————-and an entirely negative one for two reasons: 1) it represents an ideology which is a monumental enemy of freedom; 2) it is not an option to wear, in so many places, in so many lands, for women who don’t want to wear one; indeed refusing to wear one has often led to great physical harm or even death for females and so the hijab, as with the swastika, should be first and foremost identified as a symbol of an enemy of liberty and even life itself, and of other noble things like women’s rights in general and the right to say “no” without any physical threat for doing so, respecting which last mentioned right Islam is retrograde in the extreme where protection of said right is concerned.

The hijab stands as an insult, a symbol, to real rights, first and foremost to liberty. Will take on all comers who care to argue otherwise.

And let me end here real plain and simple like: When I see ANY woman wearing an hijab, whether forced to or stupidly voluntarily doing so, I see a sartorial element which is an insult to the American Constitution, and especially to the First Amendment of this constitution, which constitution the Islamic world could have NEVER produced on its own but would be only too ready, to this very day, to shred or replace if only given the opportunity, which presently it is by far to many Americans, including many Republicans and virtually all Democrats.

Islam, you are a parasite and feed off of freedom with the design to eventually end it. The hijab, in microcosm, represents this effort. Which explains my utter disgust with the hijab——-every time I see it, no exceptions.

    • Wellington says

      Apr 29, 2017 at 7:33 pm

That’s “by far too many Americans” and not “by far to many Americans,”

After all, when confronting ignorance and evil, no mistakes can be allowed. None. Perfection, that is to say as far as man is capable of perfection, is paramount, is imperative, where combatting malevolence and stupidity are concerned.

In fact, many more are getting clued in every day. We are having an effect through rational, fact-based discussion. The daily jihad attacks are sinking in to more and more formerly closed Western minds.

Maybe I’m dreaming, but I have a feeling that some Islamic terror group will eventually succeed in another big operation like 9-11. That, I believe, will be a tipping point that will trigger the end of Western patience with Islam.

They will get the war against Islam that they have been struggling to create. Only when it starts, the war against Islam will be supported by the majority and anyone not on side will be asked to leave Western countries. There will be a general realization that Islam will never reconcile to Western pluralism. Western people will recognize that Islam is a political system at war with freedom. Islam is a euphemism for ‘slavery’.

For every job one is honored….(bus drivers, ditch diggers, guys who hold up stop signs on road crews, grocery bagger, school janitor, baby sitter…when is their day to be honored?)…that one is just following in the footsteps of others, so none are *unique.*…even if they are good at their job.

Second: which other group…besides moslims….make sure that everyone knows…knows without a doubt, even a smidgen of doubt, that they are what they are…Jews, Christians, atheists, agnostics, etc., on every occasions, every non-occasion, every minute of every day? None. No other group’s members make sure that everyone knows whose stepping on our toes….only moslims.

moslims don’t want to be known as a “fusion of their achievements, interests …”

People, however, do feel the need to explain why they aren’t vegetarian when the subject comes up. I second Gen Jones’ assessment of you as wise and kind, though I must also tell you that we cross paths on the “vegan matter.” I was raised with such Pennsylvania Dutch delights as scrapple and pig stomach and as a boy just assumed everyone ate the former. Well, imagine my surprise when I found out otherwise and also surprised that outside of Pennsylvania scrapple is pretty hard to find, as least it used to be (though a lot of New Jersey diners serve it). In any case, I am a devoted meat eater and will eat almost anything. Well, If one eats scrapple, which I certainly still do, preferably sliced thin, fried and with maple syrup poured over it, then pretty much nothing is off limits. Oh yeah, no gustatory pride at all on my part. Take care, my friend.

Well, g, if you and I were in the same room, I don’t see you trying to make me eat as you do and fussing about my choice of food.

I was raised on a farm….my family raised pigs, chickens, cows, ducks,….and we ate what we raised. (except for the horses and mules) . My mother also always had a garden near the house and we ate a lot of veggies. More veggie than meat. In fact, some meals were all veggie except for the bacon grease she used to flavor things like corn, peas, beans, tomatoes and okra.

I still like food cooked *her* way, but I don’t try to get anyone to eat as I do. To each his own.:)

P.S. The woman makes statements that are condemnatory of those who choose to eat butter or drink milk, or anything else which she avoids, as though she is *better* than anyone else in the room. She married a guy who likes to eat meat. You should hear her speaking about how she *changed* him and see his face as she says it.

          It’s a hoot.

          Hi Gen, Wellington, and Somehistory.

Sorry to hear about this woman’s husband, Somehistory–I would never try to do that to anyone, a loved one least of all.

Wellington, you may be surprised to hear that I have tried scrapple back in my non-veggie days–both at home and at a breakfast place that also served grits, another regional fave. I never had it with maple syrup, though–that must be an acquired taste. 🙂

Gen, like you I’ve waxed and waned a bit over the years–I couldn’t stay vegetarian when I was on the street, and my first boyfriend was a dedicated carnivore.

I’ve been pretty steady over the past almost thirty years, though–and my husband is vegetarian. And no, Somehistory–I did not browbeat him into it. He was a vegetarian when we met.

I hope you would not be bored if I had you guys over to dinner, though–over the past couple of weeks, I’ve made Italian, Basque, Indian, German, Armenian, Hungarian, Mexican, Korean, West African, Cuban, and Greek food. I’m making Vietnamese tonight, and BBQ with my own homemade sauce this weekend.

Getting too far OT here, but thanks for the kind words, all.

Some may call it symbolic that a Muslim American journalist will be recognized at the annual dinner the same year that President Trump declined to attend. Trump is breaking from a long tradition of presidents meeting with the award recipients.

President Ronald Reagan also did not attend these dinners. I know he did not attend one the first year of his Presidency; I am not sure about the other 7 years, but I THINK THAT HE SKIPPED THEM ALL.

    And, why should Trump attend?

The media criticizes everything that he does- INCLUDING THAT HE –HORROR–USED KETCHUP WHEN EATING A STEAK.

The NY Trash I mean New York Times, AS A NEWS ITEM, ABOUT PRES. TRUMP’S TAX PROPOSALS -MENTIONED THAT HE AND HIS FAMILY WOULD BENEFIT. AND NARY A WORD ABOUT THE BENEFITS TO SMALL BUSINESSES; TO STARTUPS; TO WORKING PEOPLE; ETC.

Which leads to another question or two.

One, how did she manage college and graduate school? At an all female school? ( which leads to another question-IF ALL MALE SCHOOLS ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL/ WHY ARE ALL FEMALE SCHOOLS ALLOWED? (I am referring to the college/university level.

She relishes the thought of meeting journalists whom she admires—-blah, blah, blah. Will she have a chaperone with her, or does she admire only female journalists? As a woman I have ZERO respect for her or any spineless hijab-wearing woman who, just by wearing the bloody thing, shows she accepts her inferior status to men. There’s a great video on youtube after the latest Paris attack of an EX muslim man accusing the (smiling) socialist mayor of Paris as she visits the scene of the crime, and pointing towards a veiled woman onlooker, “Why are these women wearing veils in a free country?” LOL. It’s disgraceful. When I see a woman in a hijab I feel like throwing up. If it’s just a “religious symbol” as they claim why aren’t men wearing them? Modesty? Give me a break.

Exactly, at the risk of sounding superfluous; we should consider the religion of a sane adult human in a Democratic Nation Citizen as A CHOICE. Despite the ultimately unsatisfying arguments that are presented against that notion.

I am not sure if wearing the hijab is a subchoice for Muslims, if women can also be Muslima’s without wearing it. Maybe in some cases, but in many cases NOT, but the choice of remaining in Islam in a democratic nation is something they must be held accountable for and for which they must bear all consequences.

  35. Jeanette says

    Apr 30, 2017 at 10:22 am

Perhaps you should consider how lucky you are that you don’t have to wear an abaya and cover your entire face except for your eyes.

And the Saudis are considering whether only one eye should have an opening. It seems that leaving a viewing hole for both eyes is simply too much for Muslim men to resist.

  36. tknightfield says

    Apr 30, 2017 at 12:31 pm

The difference between the full burqa and the hijab, niqab or headscarf, is a difference of degree, not of kind. They are all unabashedly sexist in nature since Muslim men are not required to cover themselves. Whether or not Muslim women in the West believe they are deciding to cover voluntarily and are reconciled with that decision is really beside the point, because the fact is, millions of women in the Muslim world ARE forced to cover through threats of physical, mental, and societal intimidation. Under that definition, the hijab is a symbol of oppression.

Let’s get real. Men call the shots in Islam. There are no female mullahs, clerics, imams, muftis or religious leaders of any kind. Gender segregation is the rule in the mosque and Islamic schools. It’s men who tell Muslim women what to wear and when to wear it, what to do and when to do it, what to think and when to think it. As long as men are in total control of the Mohamed cult, the hijab, burqa, niqab and burkini cannot be seen as anything other than a tool of theologically sanctioned male supremacy and control. In addition, forcing female children to cover is morally wrong, since they obviously have absolutely no say in the matter.

Instead of establishing the Sharia-compliant right of Muslim women to wear the symbol of their oppression in all settings, and perpetuating a phony victimology narrative, the real mission of the media should be the liberation of Muslim women from this misogynistic practice so they can be truly equal, autonomous and free individuals. Isn’t that what Western civilization is all about in the first place? Hello feminists…are you guys out there? Oh right, you’re all too busy rationalizing this medieval practice and siding with the oppressors and their patriarchal misogynist Islamic dogma to actually go to bat for Muslim women here and around the world who are under the boot heal of Islam. Take a bow ladies.

    • Donald R Laster Jr says

And many people don’t want to admit to those facts. While the original coverings that women wore in the Middle East was to protect their skin the Islamic theocracy uses it as a means of control.

If she had not been saying what has been uttered by nearly every other checker in America, I probably wouldn’t have known what she was saying. Even knowing, it was hard not to keep saying…and I did a couple of times…”Huh?” :What did you say?’ cause it was so garbled, I had to make sure.

I noticed her scarf. Then I noticed her speech. We do notice things besides scarves. Just glad it wasn’t her turn for attacking someone. And yes, I am becoming prejudiced. Not acting on it, being rude or mean, but in my thinking. And in being *ready* for someone I see here at home to attack.

She is a part of a terrorist organization that has been operating for 1400 years to force its deviant abnormal behaviors on societies. She is allowed to lie to advance Islam. As the article pointed out she can always remove the scarf but she has identified herself as being a part of the Islamic theocracy and therefore an enemy of the US and all non-Islamic societies. An Islamic can not be a loyal citizen or member of non-Islamic society due to the requirements of Islam. People need to learn what Islam teaches and its real history of terrorism. For instance the Crusades were a defensive reaction to Islam’s constant attacks on the non-Islamic in Europe which started in the 600/700s when Islam invaded North Africa and Europe through Spain..
