Belgium sought Saudi Arabia’s favor in voting to UN women’s rights commission

May 3, 2017 7:55 am By Christine Douglass-Williams

Deputy leader of the country’s Green party, Benoît Hellings, claimed Belgium’s vote was a tactical move and said the foreign ministry was directly responsible.

“The cabinet of (foreign minister) Didier Reynders gave the green light to a shameless vote, scorning women’s rights, with the aim of getting in the good books of a notoriously no-go country in order to facilitate the election of Belgium to the UN Security Council,” he said in a statement.

But remember: Belgium’s vote in favor of the appointment of Saudi Arabia to a United Nations women’s rights commission was chalked up to “a regrettable diplomatic mix-up,” according to Prime Minister Charles Michel. Belgium’s UN representative was said to “not have sufficient time to consult with Brussels, and pushed through Riyadh’s bid.” This ludicrous excuse was puzzling and made Foreign Minister Didier Reynders look astonishingly stupid; but now comes word that his vote was planned to please Saudi Arabia.

The executive director of UN Watch, Hillel Neuer, rightly states that “Saudi Arabia may have a large part of the world’s oil wealth…but their contempt for the basic rights of women should never be legitimized by U.N. bodies or by liberal democracies such as Belgium.”

So now that leaked emails have revealed the scandalous news that Belgium wants to impress Saudi Arabia to the extent that it is unconcerned with the basic rights of women, we await the massive outcry from feminists, human rights activists, and Western governments.

“Belgium made sure Saudi Arabia knew it voted regime onto UN Women’s Rights Commission, according to leaked emails”, by Harriet Agerholm, Independent, May 2, 2017:

Belgium’s foreign ministry wanted Saudi Arabia to know it had voted to elect the kingdom to the UN Commission of Women’s Rights, leaked internal emails have reportedly revealed.

The disclosure risks fuelling a further backlash against the European country, which has been accused of putting concerns about equality to one side in order to ingratiate itself with the oil-rich kingdom.

The election of a nation which bans women from driving and working without a male’s permission to a body whose role it is to promote women’s rights caused an outcry.

It emerged Belgium was one of a handful of EU member states to vote for the conservative nation in a secret ballot.

The leaked documents, seen by Belgian news site 7sur7, also appeared to undermine claims by Belgium’s Prime Minister, Charles Michel, that the ballot came unexpectedly and that the diplomat who voted was forced into a hasty decision without proper consultations with Brussels.

Mr Michel last week claimed that electing the nation to the commission was a mistake, citing the country’s poor record on gender equality.

“If we could do it again and if we would have the chance to discuss it at government level, I of course would have argued that we not approve this,” Mr Michel said.

But the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was informed of the vote at least nine hours before the ballot, according to the leaked documents reported by the news site.

The cabinet sent instructions to the delegation in New York instructing them on how to vote and requesting they inform the various candidates, including Saudi Arabia, of their support, according to the documents.

“Who is responsible for this decision? The minister of foreign affairs himself.”……

“Belgium’s vote was a tactical move”. This dumb tactic says it all and explains why the Europeans can never be strategic in their thinking.

Brussels has become a Muslim majority city. That’s why Belgium is bending over backwards to the world champions in misogyny.

Is anyone actually surprised about this? Any sane redpilled person should’ve predicted this was the case when that ridiculous statement about a “regrettable mix-up” was made. Mix-up my ass!

“…we await the massive outcry from feminists, human rights activists, and Western governments.”

Eloquently expressed: “…a shameless vote, scorning women’s rights, with the aim of getting in the good books of a notoriously no-go country…”

Moreover, the statement was TRUTHFULLY put by a Green Party politician. Can we hope that his is the beginning of a general recognition of the backwardness of Islam?

The pretense about Islam that has prevailed is entirely similar to story of the Emperor’s clothes of Hans Christian Anderson.

    ISLAM HAS NO MODERNITY ON!

Scurrilous isn’t it, but as post modern feminists have long jettisoned any interest in, or commitment to truth, they can remain silent and feel not a pang of conscience because to their way of thinking this type of thing is just part of an ongoing exercise in power relations. Christians and other enlightened groups and individuals, on the other hand, will point out the obvious fact that Saudi Arabia enslaves it’s women and shouldn’t pretend to have anything to offer the world in relation to the rights or status of women or even to the broader elevation of human rights for men, women and children.

I wish Belgium would be partitioned. This made up country with an inferiority complex is a tremendous source of trouble. Can barely manage to hold the two main factions in the country together but the Belgians love multiculturalism.
