Jihad: the family business.
Remember: “Salman and his brother Ismail worshipped at Didsbury mosque, where their father, who is known as Abu Ismail within the community, is a well-known figure. ‘He used to do the five and call the adhan. He has an absolutely beautiful voice. And his boys learned the Qur’an by heart.'”
His father, who has ties to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State, is a well-known figure at the Didsbury Mosque. Why didn’t the Vast Majority of Peaceful Muslims there rebuke him and his sons for their jihadist leanings?
“Manchester bomber Salman Abedi’s father and brothers arrested, linked to ISIS, Al Qaeda,” Fox News, May 24, 2017 (thanks to the Geller Report):
Manchester bomber Salman Abedi apparently wasn’t the only member of his family to harbor extremist views as Libyan officials arrested the suicide bomber’s father and two brothers, and uncovered what investigators called a plot for a new attack.
Hashim Abedi, who was born in 1997, was arrested in Tripoli on Wednesday evening by the Libyan counter-terrorism force Rada on suspicion of links to the Islamic State, and was planning a new attack on the Libyan capital, a government spokesman told Reuters on Wednesday.
The father of the bomber was arrested in Tripoli on Wednesday, a Libyan security spokesman told The Associated Press. The father, Ramadan Abedi, had said another brother of the bomber, Ismail, was arrested Tuesday.
Salman’s mother, Samia Tabbal, is belived to have returned to Libya, while the Facebook profile for his sister, Jomana, suggests that she still lives in Manchester. The mother was described in an article by the Guardian as a “very nice woman” who taught a friend’s daughter to read the Quran.
Earlier Abdel-Basit Haroun, a former security official in Libya, told The Associated Press Wednesday that he personally knew Ramadan Abedi, the father of Salman Abedi, and that the elder Abedi was a member of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group in the 1990s. The group had links to Al Qaeda.
Although the LIFG disbanded, Haroun said the father belongs to the Salafi Jihadi movement, the most extreme sect of Salafism and from which Al Qaeda and the Islamic State group hail. Haroun added that Abedi, also known as Abu Ismail, had returned to the Libyan capital of Tripoli.
The LIFG was founded in 1995, and was involved in attempts to assassinate then-Libyan leader Moammar Qaddafi as well as violent clashes with Benghazi police. In 2002, a senior LIFG commander, Anas al-Libi, who also was a companion of Al Qaeda founder Usama bin Laden, was detained by U.S. forces for his role in the 1998 bombings of the American Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, which killed more than 200 people.
The group also was involved in the bloody riots at Abu Salim prison near Benghazi in 1996 that killed more than 1,200 prisoners.
The LIFG reportedly teamed up with the Moroccan Islamic Combatant Group in planning the May 2003 bombings in Casablanca, Morocco, that killed more than 40 people and injured more than 100. The group also has been linked to the 2004 attacks in Madrid that killed 194 people.
Ramadan Abedi escaped Tripoli in 1993 after Qaddafi’s security authorities issued an arrest warrant and eventually sought political asylum in Britain. The elder Abedi first immigrated to London before settling in the Whalley Range area of south Manchester, where they had lived for at least a decade.
We don’t believe in killing innocents. This is not us.
The neighborhood is known to be home to a number of former LIFG members living in exile, including Abd al-Baset Azzouz – an expert bomb-maker who left Manchester to run a terrorist network in eastern Libya overseen by Ayman al-Zawahiri, Usama bin Laden’s successor as leader of Al Qaeda. Media in the United Kingdom reported in 2014 that Azzouz had 200 to 300 militants under his control.
In a telephone interview from Tripoli, Ramadan Abedi — who is now the administrative manager of the Central Security force in the Libyan capital — denied to The Associated Press that his son is linked to any militant group or the suicide bombing that killed 22 people.
The father of the alleged terrorist said that his family “aren’t the ones who blow up ourselves among innocents.”
“We don’t believe in killing innocents. This is not us,” he said….
Sure. But are non-Muslims innocent?

Daily Mail are saying the father was a security officer at Manchester Airport. What kind of a SNAFU is that by British Intelligence!
Why aren’t all his contacts at the airport being grilled right now? Who else is lurking there. Incredible.

Yes, I noticed after 9/11, most airports security officers are Muslims. This is how the British logic works: Hand the security issues to likely terrorists!!
One may wonder why they allow guys like these, who practiced jihad in Syria or North Africa, to return to Europe? Or why allow them to go in the first place?

In 2006 a Dubai company bid on a contract to manage several ports in the US. There was a lot of stunned reaction to this, just 5 years down the road from 9/11. Bush was pushing for it; probably felt like he had something to prove to the Islamic world. Others warned that if we didn’t let Dubai bid, we’d open ourselves to violent reactions. Sheesh, really? That’s a tad outsized isn’t it? Give them a contact because we don’t want then to bomb us? Dubai dropped out due to all the bad press, but it really makes you wonder about the thought process of both motivations.

Islam is built upon a mountain of lies and so it is best to assume a Muslim is lying until independently proven otherwise. When I hear the word “Muslim” I think many things, all negative, and one of them is “liar.”
abad says
And considering that Satan is the Father of the Lie…but we all know Muslims worship Satan.
Islam is called a Death Cult for a reason.
Wellington says
Not being at all religious, abad, I don’t accept the existence of Satan——-or God. I think it likely we are alone, that God and Satan are legends, that mankind created these “entities” (for which zero proof can be produced) in order to better explain why existence of any kind exists in the first place——and why sometimes it is so damn horrible. It’s a sophisticated and understandable approach by man to make sense of why anything exists rather than nothing. But extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence and religion NEVER produces such evidence though all the while asserting such claims.
However, and this is a very big “however,” the most sophisticated religions like Judaism, Christianity and Buddhism, put forth many wonderful concepts (e.g., a true Golden Rule for all) while trying to explain the ultimately unexplainable. Sadly, mankind also produced Islam, which is indeed a religion but a very crude one and a malevolent and stupid one as well. All of what I have written so far here is capable of being reduced to probabilities, as I have argued before here at JW. Yes, man is an animal capable of producing wonderful things (examples being democracy, the scientific method and complex mythologies about the universe) but also capable of awful and rankly stupid things (examples being Islam, Marxism and Nazism).
Yeah, just do the math. Invoking Emily Bronte here, I have never longed for ways divine. No need to as I calculate matters though even very smart people like yourself seem to need to. Thus I often feel like a stranger in a strange land, though I have gotten use to this and just pop another cold one and listen to a Beethoven symphony or watch a football game——–or some such things. I myself don’t know why so many need the solace of a religion but there is much that I do not know. At least I know this.
But I must go with “my gut” about human existence and my gut tells me that the universe doesn’t give a damn about the human species. We’re on are own. And sometimes we make pretty good use of this “aloneness,” like developing religions such as Judaism and Christianity which put such laudable emphasis on the dignity and worth of the individual, thus working quite well in their theological blueprints with things like democracy and true human rights. Other times we as a species just eff-up. This helps to explain Nazism, Marxism———and Islam.
Meanwhile, the universe goes on and doesn’t care about us at all. Many like to think we matter somehow extrinsically but in my “take on things” we don’t. The only meaning we have is what we give to ourselves before an impersonal cosmos that doesn’t give a damn about us. What the ancient Greeks did in inventing democracy is a fine way to refute an indifferent universe. Developing a true Golden Rule for all is another. So is the scientific method. Modern technology too. Women’s rights. Et al. But then there are perversions; giant negatives to human existence. I would rank, I would put, over time, Islam in first place here.
Just my take on things, abad. Hope you and yours are doing well. Take care. And I will close here by acknowledging that your take on Satan and the like could be correct. Yes, I admit this possibility, but I think it unlikely as I’m sure you have by now already gathered.

Pouring your heart (soul?) out in a deeper than your usual post, thanks Wellington
Sonshine says
I usually quite like your comments Wellington, but this one contains stuff I don’t… though at least… apparently… you are open to the possibility you’re wrong.
So… let’s just take your claim that zero proof can be produced for the existence of God. This is equivalent to saying that there is no evidence of a mind behind the universe. That everything in the universe came about without a single thought being given to it… because there was no mind there to give any thought to it. A corollary of this is that the only stuff that exists is matter/energy, material stuff. This means that everything has come to be simply as a result of matter/energy, physics and chemistry doing their thing. No planning, no design, no forethought, no making of anything, no meaning, no purpose. This precludes genuine thought because in such a world, thought is simply an epic-phenomenon of matter, electro-chemical stuff going on in the brain. It also precludes morality because you can’t get morals out of matter. A materialistic world is an amoral world. Thus nothing is right or wrong, or good or evil, and so Islam is not evil and nor is the bombing in Manchester. This effectively is what you have argued for.
So, is there any evidence of mind behind the universe? Is there any evidence of forethought? Because if there is, you are wrong.
Let’s take one very simple evidence of forethought.
A baby develops in the womb in a totally watery environment. It has no need of lungs because they are without purpose in such an environment and cannot possibly be used. All the same the baby develops lungs for a world it is not in (they are collapsed in the womb), but one day will be. This is clear evidence of forethought, forward planning. Further the transition from the watery world of the womb to the outside world where lungs are needed is catastrophic, and if systems were not in place to cross this threshold the baby would not survive. But systems are in place to be used in just this situation, not before and not after. Once the first breath is taken these systems kick into action, the transition is made, the new world is entered, the old one is left, and there is no going back. This is all evidence of forethought… planning in advance.
But forethought is a function of mind, and the mind behind such systems, is clearly a mind of unparalleled genius and ability… the mind of the Creator.
Wellington says
Thank you for your thoughtful response, Sonshine. I think all that you wrote is wrapped up with the teleological argument for a higher being, i.e., the argument from design, which of course includes an ultimate designer. It’s not a bad argument, it’s not illogical, but it ultimately doesn’t prove anything because, as Immanuel Kant pointed out (to his own mortification btw because he believed in God), existence is not necessarily a category of an idea. Thus all intellectual arguments for the existence of God, others being the First Cause argument and the Ontological argument of Anselm’s, however clever, in the final analysis prove nothing.
Your idea about some ultimate mind, putting aside that it arguably suffers from anthropomorphism, as you proffered it is a fine idea but it still remains in the hypothetical stage and doesn’t prove anything. It is “only” an idea. Understand, it could be correct, but you can’t prove that it is. Kierkegaard was right. Ultimately, what is necessary is a leap of faith. I have no faith and one without faith cannot be religious. For me, one must prove things or suspend certainty. Of course we can all have hunches but that is something different. Enough for now, I think only, to thank you again for your intelligent reply.
Wellington says
You’re welcome, Xero_G.

When I went to England, God gave me some experience that indicated the biblical messianic Jews will someday hammer those who like the incitement to murder in the quran. I cut a stick with a saw and said to God these 2 sticks represent the body of biblical people cut in half by the wicked. Then I took the 2 sticks and wandered around London. I walked about 10 miles and then suddenly I came upon a very small library. I went inside and I walked over to the shelf and picked out a book that caught my eye. Inside it was a prophecy by a Jewish man who is not in the bible. He prophesied God would use a nazarite with 2 sticks to use the biblical strategy against murder. I am a nazarite. God never lets me do a better job of remembering murder victims than He does. Before this happened, God had already done something terrible for murderers by giving me a lot of practice with how knowing God is when people are being killed out here. (Joel 2.30) I believe the bible is going to win.

Hand signals for Muslim one god (Allah) and Muslim victory are the index finger or thumb extended followed by the finger V for victory. When a 10 year old Muslim kid shows this sign, one can estimate how deep within the Muslim community the concept of superiority extends. When the kid shows these signals at a Christian children’s party given to welcome Muslin kids, it is most unsettling. It seems so easy to prepare Muslim children for community dominance. Now, about the willingness of Western culture to be dominated….

The media were identifying the father as some peace loving moderate muslim who “spoke out against extremist ideas”. But the reality seems to be somewhat different. It was mentioned he was known as with the “Abu” prefix which almost always is used by fighters. Now we discover he was in an Islamic military group the LIFG, who opposed Qaddafi. The family entered Britain as refugees, settled in a community in Manchester know as a hotbed of support and recruitment for ISIS.
The attack by son Salman is entirely predictable, he was “radicalized” at home, but the British security services have been caught napping.
