Swiss authorities, and authorities all over Europe and North America, are eventually going to realize that the problem is not that one group is using Qur’an distribution as a front for jihad recruitment, but that the Qur’an can perform jihad recruitment all by itself.
“Zurich recommends ban on ‘radicalized’ Koran distribution campaign,” by Brenna Hughes Neghaiwi, Reuters, May 5, 2017:
Zurich’s public safety office on Friday recommended towns in Switzerland’s most populous canton ban a campaign that hands out Korans in public spaces, describing it as a front for incitement of radical activities including jihadist involvement.
The recommendation clashed with an assessment by federal intelligence services published three days before which concluded a ban on the campaign’s Koran distribution would lead to a “strong conflict with the exercise of religious freedom”.
Zurich’s security department urged communities not to provide a public platform for the Islamic “READ!” campaign, which it said had ties to jihadis in Switzerland and had a number of members being prosecuted by the attorney general.
“The community is not obliged to allow public space as a platform for spreading views that are irreconcilable with our society’s basic and fundamental values,” Zurich’s Security Department wrote, citing a legal opinion it had sought.
“Such actions may thus be prohibited within the current legal framework.”
The READ campaign could not be reached for comment.
The Association of Islamic Organisations in Zurich said it did not expect any negative consequences for the Muslim community, as the measure applied only to a specific campaign.
“We generally prefer individuals to be informed about Islam in mosques or for members to engage in local dialogue,” the association said in an emailed statement.
The “READ!” campaign was initiated by Germany’s DWR “True Religion” group in 2011 with the goal of distributing 25 million Korans across Europe.
But DWR was banned in Germany last November for radicalizing youngsters and “propagating extremist ideologies and supporting terrorist organizations under the pretext of Islam”, according to German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere.
The organization had persuaded about 140 people in Germany to join militants in Iraq and Syria, authorities said….

I disagree. Banning the book would make it more appealing.
Censorship ( my view) never works- makes people want to read it.
RE: Germany-does not say how many were distributed there- but 140 people went to Syria and Iraq- seems like a small number, considering EVEN BEFORE THE MASSIVE INFLUX OF MUSLIMS TO GERMANY, IT HAD A SUBSTANTIAL MUSLIM POPULATION..
Ashley says
I agree with you, Oliver.
God, I hate the “book burning” movement! Censorship and banning only piques curiosity for the “forbidden” material.
But it is a slippery slope. As I evolve my counter-jihad self, I need to delve into the pro-jihad propaganda material. The Feds would have a field day if and when they confiscate my computer!
A buddy once said, “Ashley, if you want to make a dent in the kiddie porn industry, you need to view kiddie porn.”
Not sure how that will go over with the local authorities!

Oliver and Ashley, Switzerland is not talking about banning the Qur’an–which I would disagree with, as well. We need to be able to educate ourselves–which is why I own several copies of that foul book myself.
They are just talking about shutting down the campaign of preaching violent Da’wa, which I think is a very wise thing.
Oliver says
Graven. My comments about banning were in response to R D Lankes who said ban the book.
Ashley was agreeing and went a bit further. Accurately in my view. That banning is a slippery slope.

Agreed–and Switzerland is not talking about banning the Qur’an–just about Muslims openly preaching violence on the streets.
Jeanette says
It also hides what the Muslims actually believe, and plan on putting into practice.
The West is already pathetically naive about Islam; banning Islam’s Operator’s Manual would keep it that way.
It’s a moot point, though, as the Koran would always be available online.

Exactly right.
Switzerland again proves itself to be one of the lone voices of common sense in Europe. This is a nation that values itself, its several traditional cultures and history, its people, and its unique brand of democracy. I very much admire this move. Nations are not expected to commit suicide in the name of religious freedom and accommodation.
Self-preservation as a nation and a culture does not present a “strong conflict with the exercise of religious freedom”. The Swiss are not going to allow their freedoms to be twisted against them in a game of semantics that would destroy those very freedoms.
They are a nation of strong local governments, committed to local values, and local culture, versus a strong, impersonal central government that accumulates power. Probably the best example of Federalism in the world.

Yes–Switzerland is not perfect, but is over all the most Islamo-savvy country in Western Europe. Far less dhimmified than most of their neighbors.
Jeanette says
The Swiss have already compromised their freedoms and rights. They did so the moment they took in the first Muslim.
Agha Ali Arkhan says
Suppose one accepted an offered Koran in a public area, then went to a recycle bin and dropped it in? What would the punishment be, if any, for such a rude act? Would this be a hate crime? Would it deserve death? Would handing out free Korans put the recipients in some kind of danger, particularly if some recipients are naïve about Islam?
Karen says
Disposing in a recycle bin could be rude, or completely innocent. Casual observation would indicate that many Muslim reactions to perceived provocation are often disproportionate.
gravenimage says
This is intentional, Karen. Muslims use violence to enforce Shari’ah norms.
Karen says
Gravenimage, you are so right. So much sickening violence is justified by Sharia. And I would not be at all surprised, on second thought, if this activity was a big setup to cry ‘hate crime’ if the books are refused or less than cherished. As Agha points out too the recipients could be in danger.

notoislam, Islam much predates Fascism. This has been part of Islam since the beginning. Muslims did not learn their savagery from the Nazis.
Michael Copeland says
WARNING
There is an unstated hostile objective.
The giving out of a Koran constitutes “an invitation to Islam”.
If the recipient embraces Islam that is fine.
If the recipient does not embrace Islam he can be killed, his wealth taken, his wife and children enslaved.
That is Islamic law.
gravenimage says
Exactly, Michael.

Change the bloody rules and stop this BS swiss. Damm leaders, just like ours in Canada. Sick and ill. We know the threat then change the rules.
Jeanette says
Not “sick and ill.”
Evil.

The wild beast sending out invitations to come to satan’s den for a tasty meal.
Like when Harvey Korman invited Donald Duck (in the person of John Byner) to dinner at eight, and told the duck to be there at 4.
No good will come from being invited to join satan and no good comes from accepting the invitation.
The book is demonic instruction for killing and raping and dying for the devil.

Switzerland: Qur’an distribution campaign is “front for incitement of radical activities including jihadist involvement”
…………………
No sh*t.
Karen says
Right on.
TheBuffster says
Wait a minute… I thought that the kafir wasn’t supposed to handle the Koran except with gloves on. I wonder if they distribute a pair along with the book?
gravenimage says
Buffster, there is an “out” here. These Qur’ans are being distributed in the hope of getting Infidels to convert to Islam. That means that the usual ban on the “filthy Kuffar” handling the “Holy Qur’an” is lifted temporarily.
Many of the rules of Islam can be eased temporarily, so long as the end goal is the further spread of Islam.
It is much the same where a Muslim eases Shar’ah strictures in order to blend in with Infidels while plotting violent Jihad.
