“The reason the Taliban resort to such acts is that they want to make sure their legitimacy is not questioned by the sermons of these ulema.”
True.
“The reason these ulema are getting targeted is because they tell the truth…”
False.
“– and the truth is that the ongoing fighting is just for power.”
True.
The ulema is the collective body of Islamic scholars who are recognized and hailed as having a specialized knowledge of Islamic sacred law and theology. These are the very people who rail against any modernization of Islam.
The ulema in Afghanistan and the Taliban are both essentially jihadist thugs, only one works more stealthily (the ulema) while the other is brazenly violent (Taliban). The ulema, like the Taliban, espouses the exporting of jihad globally. Both are determined to subjugate the House of War, but the turf battle between them in Afghanistan is fierce, as one can see with the Taliban “increasingly killing Islamic scholars.” The same turf war holds true between Shia and Sunnis. Little wonder that Muslims who have sought the modernization of Islam throughout Islamic history fear for their lives and have, in fact, in many instances been murdered after having been deemed by the ulema to be apostates and those who spread corruption in the land.
“NYT: Afghan Taliban Increasingly Killing Islamic Scholars to Silence Criticism”, by Edwin Mora, Breitbart, May 29, 2017:
Taliban jihadists in Afghanistan are increasingly targeting Islamic scholars, known as ulema, to silence dissent and criticism as the terrorist group continues to capture territory and expand its influence across the country.
“The reason the Taliban resort to such acts is that they want to make sure their legitimacy is not questioned by the sermons of these ulema,” Mohammad Moheq, a prominent Afghan scholar of religion who also serves as an adviser to Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani, told the New York Times (NYT).
“The only thing that undermines their legitimacy is the ability and power of these ulema if they preach and argue against them,” added Moheq. “Only they can challenge the Taliban’s ideology, not the liberal scholars or others, and the Taliban understand that.”“The reason these ulema are getting targeted is because they tell the truth — and the truth is that the ongoing fighting is just for power,” noted Mawlawi Khudai Nazar Mohammedi, the chief of the Ulema Council in Taliban stronghold Helmand province, located along the Pakistan border next to Kandahar province, the birthplace of the terrorist group.
In recent years, security conditions have been increasingly deteriorating in Afghanistan, primarily at the hands of the Taliban, which controls more territory now than at any time since the U.S. military removed it from power in 2001.
The Taliban’s new leader, Mawlawi Haibatullah Akhundzada, is a religious scholar himself. He is considered more of an ideologue than his predecessor.
Akhundzada has ordered the Taliban to closely watch and dissect sermons more than ever, NYT has learned.
According to the Times, there is “a rapidly growing list of Islamic religious scholars who have become casualties of the Afghan war.”
NYT continues:
The scholars have long been targets, of one kind or another, in Afghanistan. Their words carry weight across many parts of society, and they are assiduously courted for their support — and frequently killed for their criticism.
Hundreds are believed to have been killed over the past 16 years of war, and not always by the Taliban. But there has been a definite uptick in the targeted killing of scholars — widely known as ulema — as the Taliban have intensified their offensives in the past two years, officials say.
It is impossible to estimate the exact number of Islamic scholars executed by the Taliban over dissenting opinions.
Citing the Mawlawi Obaidullah Faizani, the chief of the Ulema Council in Kandahar, the news outlet reveals that an estimated 300 preachers have been executed in the province since 2004….

Ulema?
Hmmm … I am but kuffar — a non-believer — and do not know of this word “ulema”. Of course, therefore, as kuffar, the muhammedans believe me and my family to be “sub-human”; they believe us to be descended from apes and pigs … that is, apes and pigs who must be converted to their death cult or be conquered … and made to feel subdued.
Question: worldwide, what is the estimate of total muhammedans which listen/follow/adhere to the instructions of the ulema, that is, which percentage of muhammedans worldwide “rail against modernization” of this death cult?
Perhaps, another way to ask this question is: worldwide, what percentage of muhammedans follow the orthodoxy of this cult, that is, the orthodoxy as prescribed by the unholy false prophet muhammed [may misery and endless suffering be upon him]?
If this number can be estimated, then, the percentage of non-orthodox muhammedans can then be estimated.
In the meantime, I spit on all those muhammedans who believe me and my family to be kuffar.

……………………
Yes–just more of the bloody Muslim struggle for power.
mortimer says
Exactly, gi, the number of Islamic ‘moderates’ keeps shrinking due to Islamic cannibalization.
gravenimage says
Grimly true, Mortimer.
WPM says
Yes cannibalizations when no kuffar around they turn on each other. None of these players “ulema’ or the Talban are “moderates” both follow main stream Islam. the Sunni and Shites are main stream Islam. All must be in a state of war all the time , there is no room in Islam to build trust , compromise, mutural interest is only in killing Kuffar , conquer there lands smashing their culture. If they no Kuffar they are like rats on a desert island they will feed off each other go cannibal , no free thinking about a better future for family or tribe. The trouble follows them in every culture , land, race , they must be at war it all that defines their being according to there books and cult.

Sounds a lot like Pol Pot when he and his henchmen were committing genocide. I believe he murdered anyone and everyone who was educated. Evil has an MO.

And the downside here is…?
WPM says
The down side is they export this hate and killing to every country ,they move to Europe ,Asia , Africa , North South , Central America, if were just in their hell hole sand box it would be bad enough. The “cult” the Nazis of the 21 century march to the drum beat of the 7 century .It has not change in 1400 years ,we refuse to believe it, it is right there in front of us 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
rabrooks says
Let’s see…… The “old thinkers” are eventually wiped out by the “new thinkers”. How long should this take? Then how long will it take for the “new thinkers” to export their hatred to the rest of the world? Using their own experience about 1400 years. So whenever they wake up, we are guaranteed another 1400 years of mudslime-mudslime violence to get their own hatred straight, so they can start over fighting us. Ugggg…….

“The same turf war holds true between Shia and Sunnis.”
LOL!! This has been going on since day one. Was it muhammad, or an early caliph, who said in the last days, there will be 74 (something like that) groups like these and 73 will perish? I’m pretty sure that a dozen or so of the first 33 caliphs were killed by OTHER muslims.
Interestingly, Stalin chased Lenin around the world to kill him also. Birds of a feather …
“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” – John 8:32

I think you mean “Stalin chased Trotsky across the world to kill him” not “Stalin chased Lenin….”

And western countries tried “nation building” in this failed state hell hole?
What a waste of western lives, blood and treasure.
How about we leave them in their basket case of a country and only take an interest in them if they shield someone like bin Laden or leave their failed state in order to export their “culture” to us.
C T says
We would have done better at nation building if we’d forced them to dump Islam in favor of pretty much any other religion. But because there are indeed a small number of peaceful versions of Islam and we didn’t know how to tell the difference between them and the dangerous ones, we didn’t do it. I think we made the right choice, but it’s time to tell the difference and do something about the dangerous ones.
C T says
The Quran says there can only be one Islam and that all the sects that break off from it are not Islam, and the ahadith unequivocally say to kill those who “change their Islamic faith” and apostates generally. A perverse system based on the incentive to survive is thus set up which rewards those who are drawn to and espouse the most violent fundamentalism, for they are more willing to kill and less likely to be killed by those who aren’t as accepting of violence.
If Saudi Arabia cared for its own future, it would disallow hajj to anyone who teaches strict adherence to the ahadith.
utis says
Islam devours its own.
Karina says
It’s a totalitarian death-cult that wants to own the whole world, so of course they would allow no criticism and brutally murder anyone (including a fellow Muslim) who criticizes it.
