Here’s an idea: let’s elect a President who is really a Washington outsider. Not just a politician who says he is, but a real outsider, but one with experience in making deals and real business acumen, combined with fierce patriotism, street smarts, and the right instincts on what must be done to make America great again. Someone who will promise to repair some of the immense damage that has been done domestically and internationally over the last few decades by the political elites. Someone who would, say, cancel the disastrous Iran deal and stop making concessions to the Islamic Republic of Iran, and refusing all further negotiations or concessions until they stop their genocidal rhetoric. Someone who would, in short, drain the swamp.
I know, I know, it’s a pipe dream. But you never know. Maybe it could happen in 2020.
“Iran nuclear: Trump extends Obama’s ‘worst deal ever,'” BBC, May 17, 2017:
Donald Trump’s White House has renewed sanctions relief for Iran, despite the US president’s past criticism.
The easing of sanctions is part of a crucial nuclear deal brokered in 2015 under then-President Barack Obama with five other world powers.
Mr Trump has described the landmark agreement as the “worst deal ever”.
However, the US Treasury issued fresh sanctions against specific officials and a Chinese business with links to Iran’s missile programme.
The move means that sanctions preventing any US companies selling to or dealing with Iran will remain suspended for the time being.
In return, Iran has pledged to restrict its nuclear activities, reducing its uranium enrichment, plutonium production plans, and allowing inspectors access to facilities.
The new sanctions from the Treasury are much more specific in scope, targeting two senior Iranian defence officials and suppliers of missile equipment, in apparent retaliation for a recent missile test, and for Iran’s support of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
US citizens and entities are now banned from dealing with the officials and companies involved.
However, the White House stopped short of failing to renew the waivers on more widespread sanctions, which are not permanent and were due to expire this week.
This is the first time Mr Trump has been faced with the issue, after former President Obama renewed the agreement shortly before he left office.
Mr Trump has consistently warned Iran over its missile activity, and has criticised the terms of the deal made by Mr Obama – at one point claiming his “number one priority” if elected would be “to dismantle the disastrous deal”.
But the other nations involved in the agreement – including China, Russia, and the UK – believe it is the best way to prevent Iran getting a nuclear weapon.
Since Mr Trump’s inauguration, his administration has also continued to certify to Congress that Iran is upholding its part of the deal, which it must do every 90 days….

Perhaps we are seeing Mr Trump the pragmatist. Sanctions are wonderful if everyone is on board. If other countries are unwilling to enforce them it leaves the US out in the cold. I do not believe that Israel will sit back and allow Iran develop the capability to wipe Israel off the map (as it intends to do, of that there is no doubt.) If Iran was to destroy Israel, the Sunni/Shia power struggle would be over. Iran would be the
leader of the Muslim world. Will the Saudis allow that to happen? Can they stop it? I don’t know the answer to that. I’m just real glad that I live about as far away as it is possible to get and still be in civilisation.
Bruce Crichton says
You’re seeing all mouth and no trousers Trump
Gordon Miller says
Bruce, I’m losing confidence as well. Me and Ann Coulter of all people.
Carolyne says
And you like all fur coat and no knickers Pelosi. Good luck with that.
David, Thailand says
According to you, the Saudis believe they mustn’t allow Iran to destroy Israel because they must do it?
Trump was elected on points (Clinton, the Wall, Obamacare, Middle East, Iran, Immigration, Islam, Swamp, Fed, etc.) of which he knew little, and once in office realised that although the establishment is thoroughly corrupt and ruthless it is also the cement holding everything together. He will burn himself out long before making more than a chink in that fortress. We are watching it happen.
While free governments have great difficulty coping with mass unrest by the people, a government despised by almost half the country stands zero chance of reining in an established and entrenched ruling class that is determined to protect the status quo.
Add to this Obama’s tactical installation of saboteurs in positions of deep influence, supported by a rabid media, and my guess is by 2020 the Left will feel confident enough to put forward an even more destructive challenger than Clinton.
David says
Trump has shown himself to be extremely thin-skinned. Not one day goes by without him telling us about the “fake news” and how unfairly he’s been treated. It shouldn’t come as a surprise then if Trump has suddenly decided to submit to Leftist policies for the sake of political expediency, or in order to (in his own mind) improve his ratings among the people on the Left.
Don Foss says
You may be right…you are probably wrong. I think Trump is smarter and more clever than people give him credit for. Just finished reading Shattered – the author actually seemed pro-Hillary to me – and I was impressed with how the Trump team rolled out head fakes and kept secrets they knew under wraps. Just one example, their own polling showed the Blue Wall states very much in play when cut up into pieces, yet he and his team let on that they were not, gave Hillary confidence, and the last minute when it was too late for Hillary to go in herself he swept in there to close deals. It was clever and took secrecy and discipline. It won him the presidency.
Trump does have a huge ego and a big mouth, but I don’t care as long as he does what’s right by America. Seeing the way he ran his campaign and how he systematically took down seasoned politicians and two entrenched establishments, I am giving him time for his seeds to bear fruit. I think he knows what he is doing. Time will tell.
Islam_Macht_Frei says
Why anyone would be surprised that Trump is nothing that he claims to be never ceases to amaze me. I am sure that if Islam were the Pacific Ocean, Trump’s knowledge of it wouldn’t fill a thimble. Trump’s statements on Islam and Muslims were pure, self-indulgent attempts to shock, and in no way represent a commitment to actually do, or even seriously think about, anything.
Let’s see what stupidity emerges after his upcoming visit to Saudi and Israel. But in any case, to believe anything that comes out of this charlatan’s mouth is the hallmark of a fool.
LaLa says
First of all no one needs to lie about Islam, it in itself tells it’s own truth on how evil it is. Just read the Koran.
Trump is no christian but the One True God is using him for His greater good.
Bruce Crichton says
Lala, Trump is a liberal cretin that was all things to all men in his campaign.
When Bosch Fawstin drew cartoons of Muhammad, Trump condemned the competition in leftist terms.
Ted Cruz, by contrast, did not.
Trump is scum.

When people know nothing about a subject, they pretend they do thinking it impresses people. So they make inane statements about subjects about they know nothing. Mostly left wing cretins and Muslims. It certainly impresses me–they have a very low IQ.

Kiel says
Spencer has a point, but I’m more tuned into those saying that Trump takes what’s possible. It’s up to the hill with sanctions. The great players Russia, China, and the EU aren’t going along the sanctions route.
Rev g says
I agree. Consider two choices, one an acceleration of the bad policies of the past, the other being at least a tap on the brake pedal.
So long as the changes being made are improvements in policy, baby steps are better than back steps.
When all the obstructionist dust starts to settle, then we can demand even stronger results. Trump can handle only so many problems at once.
Allan Mandrowski says
Look, Trump is surrounded by the swamp so let’s not burn him down the ground for every misstep he makes. If he even manages to do half he said he would do it would be a victory for the US.
Carolyne says
Yes, Allan Mandrowski and furthermore, every witch hunt is aimed at overthrowing a duly elected President and therefor ending our Democracy. Mr. Trump is practicing the art of the possible, not flinging headfirst into the impossible I believe he will deal with every problem as soon as it is possible and practical to do so. And he is wise enough to know the difference.
I will not participate in destroying my country with picking away at the President. I wish to remind all–Mr. Trump is our last chance. Destroy him and you destroy yourself. While that is the goal of some, I do not believe the majority here wish to do that.
awake says
I share Robert’s current frustration with Trump, but I am willing to give him some more time to try to find some solid footing. The current unilateral attack of the left, the GOP establishment, nearly all media, and the deep state against Trump is unparalleled in American history.

50/50 deal, with other nations involved good luck thinking Trump is going to be like General Patton out of the gate on Iran. Patton who actually lost his first battle against hardened nazi soldiers in a bad way. Does anyone here really think the world is just going to bow to the US with Obama only being gone for 3 months and after 25 years of incompetent back room dealing? Look what led to the Iran nuke deal. You think the other countries are not hardened in the arena of world politics? The knives came out Jan 20th no matter who won. Trump has to get to know his environment and I don’t care who it is it would be the same way for any Prez the first time out.
Check out Winston Churchill’s first foray as a leader in WWI he got a lot of his fellow Brits killed. Thought he had a good plan.
I still think we should openly denounce Islam as it stands in opposition to everything we are as a nation but I’m not holding my breath. I understand Robert’s criticism I have my share as well and I’m not holding my breath on Iran either it might already be too late. That CFR crap is all around Trump right now.
Carolyne says
Still, insofar as our left-wing judges have allowed, Mr. Trump has accomplished a lot in his first 100 or o days.
this has been happening to our country since Bush Sr., the pal of the Saudis and his son who is in the Saudi pocket. Obama was just a Muslim lad (As he said) trying to establish a world wide Caliphate. Try to subvert Mr. Trump at your peril and at the peril of our country.
Fair weather friends are not to be trusted.
billybob says
I think it is ridiculous on the face of it that we could possibly achieve anything by “canceling” the deal with Iran. The USA cannot cancel the deal on her on, which involved 6 other nations to suspend sanctions collectively imposed on Iran. Of course the USA could reimpose the sanctions she had, but these would be about as effective as a fart in a windstorm without the cooperation of other nations.
It is too late now. The Iran accord is a done deal. The money has all been shipped to.Iran. What are you going to do? Ask for the money back? The cat is out of the bag. The horse has left the barn. The train has left the station. It is all over and done with. The only thing to be done is to monitor the situation, and when Iran starts up their nuclear program again, bomb the shiite out of them. I was going to say – bomb them back to the Stone Age, but bombing might actually have the opposite effect, if it destroys the ruling regime and allows a revolution to bring Iran back into the modern world.
Terry Gain says
if you are correct Iran will have nuclear weapons in 10-15 years at most. If I was an Israeli I would not take chance.
Trump lacks the knowledge to fight this battle.
Carolyne says
I see. But you, Terry Gain do have that knowledge?
Billy Bob you are correct. The Iran deal cannot be recalled. It is only possible for Mr. Trump to do what is possible, not perform magic.
Flavius Claudius Iulianus says
All you described in your list, Robert. But in 2020 we should add to the wish list, “not from incurably liberal New York city.”
I too like Cruz for 2020.
BTW, where is his bill to put the Ikwan on the terrorist org. list?
