Jihad Watch

Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Champs-Élysées car bomber was on watchlist, had rifle, guns, and gas bottles in car

Jun 20, 2017 12:18 pm By Robert Spencer

What good is the French watchlist? They’re not even watching those who are on it. They can’t prevent them from amassing rifles and guns. Apparently, there are just so many jihadis in France now that they can’t keep track of them all. And that is exactly in accord with the Islamic State’s stated plan, as I explain in my book The Complete Infidel’s Guide to ISIS.

An update on this story. “Champs-Elysees attack car ‘had guns and gas’ – Paris police,'” BBC, June 19, 2017 (thanks to David):

A car deliberately hit a police van before bursting into flames on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in central Paris, police officials say.

The driver, who was on a security watchlist, died in the incident. Police found a Kalashnikov rifle, handguns and gas bottles in the car.

“Security forces have been targeted in France once again,” Interior Minister Gérard Collomb said, calling it an “attempted attack”.

No-one else was hurt in the incident….

A white car could be seen standing in the middle of the empty avenue with one door open and sniffer dogs were sent in, the BBC’s Hugh Schofield reports from Paris.

Our correspondent says there are always many police and gendarme vehicles near the spot, as it is next to the local police station.

Bomb disposal experts were sent to the scene to inspect the vehicle, a Renault Mégane.

Mr Collomb, who visited the site, said weapons and explosives found inside “could potentially blow this car up”.

Reports say officers had to smash the car windows to pull the driver out.

Sources close to the investigation said the driver of the car had been on a security watchlist since 2015 for membership of a “radical Islamist movement”….

I wonder how the French people feel living like this?
    Are they cuck happy ?

Agree with ‘concerned Canadian’. The French have voted for MORE JIHAD, rather than LESS jihad with Marine.

They will now reap the whirlwind of jihad. Great storms of jihad will soon SWEEP OVER France.

Mortimer sys: “…will soon SWEEP OVER France.”

May I correct you please? Make that: “…will soon SWEEP OVER ***Western Europe***.”

        And it’s right.

Agreed. The French made a last vital stupid mistake while voting for this last president. Blood will flow more often now. If I didn’t know better (or do I?) I would believe that the French secret service is behind these attacks. They knew the terrorists. They are paid to stop them. But they never do, so it seems.

Before the election everything is covered up. Just found this letter from German Bundeskriminalamt (federal bureau of investigation) published in the Italian newspaper il giornale.

      in Italian:
      http://blog.ilgiornale.it/foa/2017/06/20/la-polizia-tedesca-ordina-non-dite-la-verita-sul-terrorismo/
      a photo of the letter
      http://blog.ilgiornale.it/foa/files/2017/06/IMG_0328.png

      Quoting:

Basically it says: No terror attack will happen in the election year if we can avoid it. Don’t mention links to IS/ISLAM. Try to gain time so that the government can come up with a plausible story. Try to speak of an isolated case and mental health issues.

Well, I’m not sure it is true. It sounds like a fake, but it summarizes quite well what seems to go on anyways. In a way such a letter is not even needed due to self-censorship.

Listen to Sarkozy whilst he (mis)lead France as President, he explains in detail what those watch-lists are worth…

BTW, apart from France being governed , for nearly two years, by ’emergency laws’, did you know that French policemen are NOT permitted to defend themselves against Antifa or Muslim rioters?

The watch list is not what you think. It is simply a list of terrorists who have watches.

As a practical matter, voting or legislating guns illegal doesn’t make them go away. Europe is after two world wars and several more minor wars still awash with guns. If you look at the laws on the books it’s a gun controller’s paradise. But the fact is anyone who wants a gun can get one.

Maybe not every one who survived the the Bataclan night club massacre would confirm this, but everyone who would perpetrate the crime will even if involuntarily, It’s not hard to get a gun.

Pro tip: if guns are made illegal but you still want a gun get an AK. I learned this from my Filipino friends. An Armalite ( as they call the AR) is fine if you maintain it. But maintaining means you will be ordering the requisite solvents and lubes from Midway or Brownell’s. You might as well go to the police station and announce you have an illegal gun. On the other hand you can wipe an AK down with a rag soaked in used transmission fluid every now and again. And it will work.

Disarming law abiding citizens is a pure control move by government. Government fosters the myth that banning guns makes everyone more safe. It does not. It may, and for many, make people feel safe. But, often people vote and behave based on feelings. Politicians know that.

Bad actors always find a way to get firearms, always. This Jihadi screwed up and died. Thankfully. Had he been better at his craft, he would have killed a lot of policemen and then might have died.

He was on a watch list? So what do these guys do all day, sit around watching videos of jihadis and drink beer? If they’re just going to watch then, then at least sell the recordings to some cable channel as a new concept in reality TV.

    ……………………..

How many Jihad terrorists at this point have been on terror watchlists?

It seems no one is actually watching them…

How does one on a watch list escape surveillance? I am not one for preventive detention because it is a slippery slope. But for those on a terrorist watch list; it would not hurt to pull them off the street and inspect them, their cars and property, and track their activities.

And just the same ineffectual nonsense in the U.K.
