Father Boulad said that “Islam is an open-ended declaration of war against non-Muslims” and those who carry out violent jihad are true Muslims who are applying exactly what their creed demands.
This well-known Jesuit, Henri Boulad, who is former Provincial of the Jesuits in Egypt and director of the Jesuit Cultural Center in Alexandria, has set himself apart from other Jesuit and Melkite leaders. He slammed Pope Francis (also a Jesuit) in a warning letter, saying that “on the pretext of openness, tolerance and Christian charity — the Catholic Church has fallen into the trap of the liberal left ideology which is destroying the West.” Yes.
Pope Francis has declared that Muslim terrorism does not exist, and went on a trip to Egypt following jihad massacres on two churches on Palm Sunday 2017, not to bring comfort to the innocent Christian flock, but to “mend ties” with Islamic leaders.
Another influential leader who resigned in May, Gregory III Laham, the Patriarch of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church, became notorious for calling the Melkite Greek Catholic Church the “Church of Islam.” Robert Spencer wrote about him:
He also claimed that Islamic jihad attacks against Middle Eastern Christians were a “Zionist conspiracy against Islam,” and exclaimed that “no one defends Islam like Arab Christians.”
That was certainly true of himself, but Gregory III Laham was not alone: the close relationship between some Middle Eastern Catholic bishops, including Melkites, to the “Palestinian” jihadis and other Muslims in the Middle East should be an embarrassment to the entire Catholic Church, but of course it isn’t. Melkite Archbishop Hilarion Capucci, who died on January 1, 2017, was such a stooge for the “Palestinians” that he was known as the “Chaplain of the PLO.”
Given such dreary realities, Henri Boulad represents an astonishing return to the truth: jihadists routinely quote from Islamic texts and have announced repeatedly that their war is a religious one against “disbelievers.”
Boulad also accepted Hungarian citizenship, in a recent affirmation of Hungarian leader Viktor Orban’s restrictive immigration policy of keeping out Muslim migrants to protect his country from jihad attacks and the skyrocketing crime that other European nations have been plagued with due to vast Muslim migration. Boulad stated that he “would like to…..fight for the future and for the Christian values on the side of Hungary and Viktor Orbán.”
“Jesuit Scholar: Islamic Extremists Are the True Muslims”, by Thomas D. Williams, Breitbart, June 16, 2017:
Islamic extremists who carry out acts of terror are simply applying what their faith requires of them, according to Jesuit Father Henri Boulad, an Islamic scholar of the Egyptian Greek Melkite rite.
In an interview with the National Catholic Register, Father Boulad said that “Islam is an open-ended declaration of war against non-Muslims” and those who carry out violent jihad are true Muslims who are applying exactly what their creed demands.
Those who fail to recognize the real threat posed by Islam are naïve and ignorant of history, he said, and unfortunately many in the Church fall into this category.
Citing a letter he wrote last August to Pope Francis, Father Boulad said that “on the pretext of openness, tolerance and Christian charity — the Catholic Church has fallen into the trap of the liberal left ideology which is destroying the West.”
“Anything that does not espouse this ideology is immediately stigmatized in the name of ‘political correctness,’” he said.
The priest went so far as to chastise Pope Francis himself—a fellow Jesuit—suggesting that he has fallen into this trap as well.
“Many think that a certain number of your positions are aligned with this ideology and that, from complacency, you go from concessions to concessions and compromises in compromises at the expense of the truth,” the priest wrote to Francis.
Christians in the West and in the East, he wrote the Pope, “are expecting something from you other than vague and harmless declarations that may obscure reality.”
“It is high time to emerge from a shameful and embarrassed silence in the face of this Islamism that attacks the West and the rest of the world. A systematically conciliatory attitude is interpreted by the majority of Muslims as a sign of fear and weakness,” he said.
“If Jesus said to us: Blessed are the peacemakers, he did not say to us: Blessed are the pacifists. Peace is peace at any cost, at any price. Such an attitude is a pure and simple betrayal of truth,” he said.
The priest also stated his belief that the West is in an ethical and moral debacle, and its defense of Islam is a denial of truth.
“By defending at all costs Islam and seeking to exonerate it from the horrors committed every day in its name, one ends up betraying the truth,” he wrote.
To back up his argument, Father Boulad enumerated a number of texts from the Koran that call on Muslims to employ violence in their conquest of the world for Allah.
The many passages he cited included: “Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them” (Koran 2:191), “Make war on the infidels living in your neighbourhood” (Koran 9:123), “When opportunity arises, kill the infidels wherever you catch them” (Koran 9:5), “Maim and crucify the infidels if they criticize Islam” (Koran 5:33), “Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies” (Koran 22:19), and “Terrorize and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur’an” Koran 8:12.
Father Boulad is not the first Jesuit scholar to criticize the West for its naivete in dealing with Islam. Last year, Georgetown scholar Father James V. Schall contended that decades of students have been given a “sanitized education” that systematically excludes an honest portrayal of the history and theology of Islam, which limits their ability to assess what is going on in the world.
In his essay titled “Realism and Islam,” Father Schall argued that Islam “is actually and potentially violent throughout its entire history” and the basic reason for this method is religious in nature: “obedience to the Law of Allah.”
Therefore, he wrote, the Western tendency to simply call Muslim violence “terrorism” is insulting to believing Muslims who “see themselves carrying out the will of Allah, even sometimes to their own death in doing so.” Rather than terrorism, he insists, Muslims see their violence as “a religious endeavor to conquer the world,” which they understand to be “an act of piety.”
Because of this gaping educational void, “most citizens are simply not equipped to face the forces now reappearing in the world,” he wrote.
“And while it may be politically incorrect to state these things, they need to be stated……

Pope Francis (SJ) should listen to this WELL-INFORMED JESUIT and forget all of his personal GUESSES about Islam.
Fr. Henri Boulad SJ has DONE THE HOMEWORK, READ THE BOOKS, WRITTEN THE ESSAYS. He LIVES UP TO the Jesuit tradition of being WELL INFORMED! Boulad KNOWS ISLAM THOROUGHLY…. unlike Frank.
If Pope Francis reads NOTHING else, he should read the following by Fr. Boulad SJ:
“Islamism is not a caricature, nor a counterfeit, nor a heresy, nor a fringe or atypical phenomenon versus classical, orthodox, Sunnite Islam.
To the contrary, I think Islamism is naked Islam, Islam without a mask and without paint, Islam perfectly consistent and true to itself, an Islam that has the courage and lucidity to go all the way to its ultimate conclusions and final implications.
Islamism is Islam in all its logic and in all its rigour. Islamism is present in Islam as the chick is present in the egg, as the fruit is present in the flower and as the tree is present in the seed.
But what is Islamism?
Islamism is political Islam, the bearer of a project for a model society and whose aim is to establish a theocratic state based on Sharia, the only legitimate law—since it is divine—since it was revealed and enshrined in the Koran and Sunna—it’s a law that applies to everything.
Here is an all-inclusive and all-encompassing project, one that is total, totalizing and totalitarian.”

No offense, but you sound like a new-comer to Jihad Watch.
I just read the interview: National Catholic Register-Edward Pentin. Which is brilliant. Haven’t had the chance to read the JW article or Realism and Islam essay by Schall.
Fr. Boulad isn’t just somebody who “should read Jihad Watch. He IS the reason people read Jihad Watch: A chronicler of Islam and Defender of the Faith who INFORMS on issues related to Islam. The “Schall” reminded me of an essay about Joseph “Schacht”: Islamic Law: The Impact of Joseph Schacht by David F. forte.
Forgive me for going off in left field. People like he good Friar are “meat and potatoes” for guys like me. Not only do I have his interview; I’ve got the added resources mentioned in this and the preceding JW article.
I’m “big” on the “Islamic slave trade” See Slavery, Terrorism and Islam by Peter Hammond. Friar Boulad mentions the “examples from Islamic history-#4” and “victims of slave traffic” of “tens of millions of people”. Friar Boulard’s articles might be a good supplement to my “Islamic Slave Trade” file or “Taqiyya” file because of his emphasis on the “political correctness” coming from the Pope and Vatican. Or hey; more likely, add this to my “Catholic Church” file.
This is a reminder of what I wrote the other day, (but damned if I can find), of issues being related to each other on the one hand and which makes it a nightmare for me to organize things on the other.
Anyway, I’m just blathering at this point. But my point is that this good friar is another source for another file. More “ammo” to confront these useful idiots with.
Like the comments section alone and people like gravenimage and others who are so knowledgeable on the issues that they are a valuable source of information all by themselves. As a matter of fact I stole one from:

The unicorn boy Prime Minister has stacked his government with Muslim immigrants. He’s pandering to the Muslim vote and bring in more by the thousand. These people are getting kidney transplants before Canadians:
Omar Alghabra – Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs – a Saudi-born Muslim who used to run the Canadian Arab Federation which supports terrorist organizations. He claims that Hamas is not a terror group and champions Sharia law for Canada.
Arif Virani, the immigrant Muslim Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Immigration.
Ahmed Hussen the immigrant Muslim Minister of Immigration
Maryam Monsef – Former Islamic Minister of Democratic Institutions and illegal alien (still working for the govt. though).
Iqra Khalid – Pakistani immigrant MP who tabled Private Members’ Motion M-103 that states that the government should:
“…quell the increasing public climate of hate and fear; (b) condemn Islamophobia and all forms of systemic racism.” So if you object to say, Islamic prayer sessions every Friday in a PUBLIC school, any observation you have in this regard may be deemed hateful, fearful or racist.
October is now officially recognized as Islamic Heritage Month in Ontario courtesy of Andrea Horwath’s private members’ bill (see above) which is now proclaimed as Islamic Heritage Month.
Andrea’s guest of honour at the reception was Imam Said Rageah who (in 2009) “spoke in favour of… bringing the Muslim community to live together in one area in which the authorities will not be able to make any decision without the approval of the Muslims.”
and had other such nuggets as:
“This is the way and this is the only way we can exist in the society, living according to Islam”
“…humiliate the infidels and the polytheists”
“if we can work together as an Ummah [Muslim nation] we can change a lot…”
“You can change the foreign policy of this country.”

Everything that ISIS is doing is found in the Quran or in the Sunnah, the records of deeds and words from the life of Muhammad. I will give an example. When ISIS captured a Jordanian pilot, they put him in a cage and burned him alive. Unfortunately, there is another saying of Muhammad. They come to him with two men who were caught performing a sexual act with each other. I could not more agree with this. Islam is a cult invented by a pervert and thief, possessed by Satan him self. Denying the truth, believing that there is islam, and there are muslims, is a mistake. Every one of us must comprehend that islam is a two faced cult, and that there is no true conversion of muslims in to a Christian, or even atheist. It is their deception. Once you let this unclean ideology enter in to your mind, you are gone. there is no exorcism which can heal you, plain and simple. When one enters in to submission by embracing islam, that one is gone, it soul is gone forever, its mind and body are possessed, and what is most horrifying, that one looses its humanity. So, in dealing with this kind of cult, there is no spiritual way, because islam teaches deception for sake of islam. So, when you see someone claims that he or she left islam, it is better not to believe them.
James says
I don’t believe that. It makes conversion to Christ impossible if one is Muslim, and implies that the devil is mightier than Christ – so mighty, that God Himself cannot turn a Muslim to Himself. But if the devil is that powerful, he has defeated Christ, and Christ is powerless to save Muslims. But if He is powerless to save them from the devil, who else might He be powerless to save ? So He ends up being powerless, and satan, who is almighty to damn all Muslims, ends up being God, the Conqueror of Christ.
I do not believe that. God saves all whom He desires to save, Muslims included. That conversion can be faked may be a problem for man, but not for God, for “The Lord knows who are His” – He has foreknown and predestined them to be His, “from before the foundation of the world”, whether they become Muslims or not.
Ti Michelle Connelly says
Because Man has Free Will God does not predestine any man. so your statement :“The Lord knows who are His” – He has foreknown and predestined them to be His, “from before the foundation of the world”, whether they become Muslims or not.” is wrong. For too long, I thought that I was “out of step” with the Pope, who I believe would still deny the two Jesuits who have concluded sufficiently, without the Pope’s guidance, that Islam is and has been at war with all people who are members of other faiths or no faiths.
Naivete, emotional blindness, attributable in large part to the leftists of the universe, has been an undermining factor which exposes all non-Muslim religions to this war because they, the non-Muslim powers have blindly opened their countries to what Islam would never do; allow religious freedom in their own lands! The war against all non-Muslims is being fought in our own lands because the leftists who are in political power in most of the western nations are blind to reality and urge us to live by their “politically correct” and stupid policies which allowed growth of this war to enter every democratic nation.
Ridding peaceful nations of suffocating “political correctness”, and Leninism in general, must be implemented by all nations under siege now by what they have blindly invited through their borders. And, borders must be revived in western Europe as well as national sovereignty. The Euro Union is a “flop” as well as the “One World” effort is bound to be. Islam is just salivating over the western legislation to national suicides.

Can anyone enlighten me about the Doctrine of Papal infallibility. I am Catholic, but I do not agree with this Pope’s statements about Islam etc.Does that mean I not being a Christian? Do we have to accept what says on these issues
Carolyne says
IMO You do not have to be a Catholic to be a Christian. IMO both are superstitions, but the Catholics believe in more mythical creatures ,i.e. saints and visions of Mary.
If you believe in a God, then you do not need a go-between such as a Pope or a deceased person. If you believe in a God, then you must believe that God gave you a brain with which to think without the aid of a wizened Argentinian in a dress.
James says
Catholics do believe in God. We accept the place of the Pope in the Church because the Church does – that is why the Gospels and the NT record the activity of St Peter in such detail, whose successors the Popes are.
Catholicism takes in all reality, rather than being a buffet for one to pick bits out of as one pleases. Because God has acted in a certain way, the result of this action is that (1) man is a social being (2) the blessed “dead’ form part of the society of the Church (3) they are the Saints (4) the Church on earth is in communion with them, and they with the Church on earth.
Mediation and inter-dependence are marks of life in society – which should the life of the Church in Christ be any different ? The Church is the Body of Christ: an inter-dependent, orderly, living, organic unity of parts, animated by a single Life and a single Spirit. Not a disorganised, disjointed, dead heap of unrelated fragments piled in a heap doing nothing.
It is difficult to take seriously the notion that the Saints are “mythical”. Cheap and ignorant shots about people’s appearance and clothing deserve no response.
Michael Ray says
I am only an ignorant protestant, but my understanding is that the infallibility claim only applies when the Pope is speaking “ex cathedra” in an official statement. There is no blanket infallibility status for the Pope. Perhaps a Catholic brother or sister could help on this?
Malcolm (South Afric) says
You are correct Michael Ray however the scope, is in the field of faith and morals. It cannot contradict scripture or the councils or Church Teaching, so its quite involved.
Quite frankly many good Catholics and scholars, will differ on his personal views and that is not disrespectful its healthy debate.
Just through experience and being with many people, there is power in prayer, so it might be wise for Catholics or Christians in general to pray for pope Francis, rather than dehumanize him through insults.
James says
Thanks for saying that. This site has a nasty way of descending into Catholic-bashing and Pope-bashing.
It is impossible not to wonder what implications this has for what people say about Islam and its founder.
gravenimage says
James. Robert Spencer himself is a devout Catholic.
You do find some anti-Catholic comments here on occasion, which is ugly and unfortunate. But Jihad Watch is *not* an Anti-Catholic site.
James says
I’m Catholic too. This has nothing to do with Papal infallibility, because the Pope’s remarks about the sociology or character of Islam are not dogmas, or even statements of doctrine of any degree. They deserve respect from Catholics, because of what a Pope is in the CC; this creates a presumption that if a Pope opens his mouth, he will be qualified to say what he says; but, that said, they are to be judged like any other statement that is presented as true.
The infallibility of the Popes is not affected by Papal misjudgements, errors of fact, or ignorance.
Hope that helps.
Frank Riley says
It puzzles me how in much of the pubic comment following the Borough Market and Manchester atrocities in the UK, the perpetrators were described as ‘cowards’. It seemed to me such an inappropriate word for persons on a mission that will end in their death, however many virgins they might expect afterwards. ‘Diabolical’, in its true sense, comes to mind, but there are plenty others.
James says
Maybe the “cowardice” lay in their attacking what was – from an infidel POV – a “soft’ target.

IMO The Pope fears Islam and is trying to accommodate Muslims so that when they take over, he would be spared and maybe be given an important post as Imam somewhere. He would however be the first to go when they breach the walls of Rome. (Metaphorically speaking, of course.) He is wrong in his pronouncements and since I do not believe in Popes nor do I believe they have any authority over me or anyone else, I have no obligation to even give him the time of day. This Jesuit Priest is absolutely correct about Islam and I suspect he will be reassigned to some outpost in the third world for his trouble. The Catholic Church over the centuries has been most unforgiving and this priest will be no exception. But when we see what happened to the last Pope (At least he survived) it appears that Pope Francis has little choice but to continue on his deceptive path if he wishes to retain his perks, and they are many.

islam is a threat to us only because it is a weapon of the underminers.
Michael Poulin says
This is what the Catholic Church used to sound like:
Pope Clement V, Council of Vienne, 1311-1312:
“It is an insult to the holy name and a disgrace to the Christian faith that in certain
parts of the world subject to Christian princes where Saracens [i.e., the followers of Islam,
also called Muslims] live, sometimes apart, sometimes intermingled with Christians, the
Saracen priests, commonly called Zabazala, in their temples or mosques, in which the
Saracens meet to adore the infidel Mahomet, loudly invoke and extol his name each day
at certain hours from a high place… This brings disrepute on our faith and gives great
scandal to the faithful. These practices cannot be tolerated without displeasing the
divine majesty. We therefore, with the sacred council’s approval, strictly forbid such
practices henceforth in Christian lands. We enjoin on Catholic princes, one and all…
They are to forbid expressly the public invocation of the sacrilegious name of
Mahomet… Those who presume to act otherwise are to be so chastised by the princes for
their irreverence, that others may be deterred from such boldness.”
According to Vatican II, the USCCB, and “Pope” Peron from Argentina , this teaching of the Council of Vienne and Pope Cement V is entirely wrong.. So to think that the current occupiers of the Vatican are remotely Catholic, is to deny the majority of evidence contained in past Catholic teachings. If you are Catholic, or call yourself Catholic, or are even remotely interested in what the Catholic Church actually taught, you cannot trust anything coming from the Vatican since the Vatican II anti-Council of the hippy-dippy 1960’s…
Michael F Poulin
Michael Poulin says
Pope Pius IX, Syllabus of Errors, # 78:
“Hence in certain regions of Catholic name, it has been laudably sanctioned by law that
men immigrating there be allowed to have public exercises of any form of worship of
their own.” – Condemned.
Vatican II teaches just the opposite, so you see, the Vatican II cult is a totally different religion.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my request about Papal Infallibility. I am a Catholic, based in the UK, and when I go to church I see notices about helping refugees in Europe. There are even special committees that have been set up to do this.I do not agree with this open door policy towards mass Muslim migration. But I say nothing because I know if I do this I will be portrayed as unchristian. Anyone who objects is regarded as a cold hearted nasty person who is going against one of the basic rules of their faith. If you went back into the middle ages and asked someone if millions of Muslims should be allowed into Europe they would think you were insane. But now we cannot object to a multitude of people, who hate Christianity and Western Culture, gaining entry . There is no guarantee that Christianity will survive. I think increasing Secularism and Islam will put the final nail in the coffin. I would recommend a book by Douglas Murray called The Strange of Europe. What is mystifying about catholic parishes all over the world is that we spend to much time and effort, helping those who do not want help and to little on our own: who cannot pay rent, or have enough over, to pay for school fees or food.
A good way to establish this is: to be a member of your parish council, if the parish spends 90% of funds on building repairs, 9% on projects for those non catholic issues, 1% on Catechetics and 0% on poor Catholics then you know there are serious issues in the parish. (the SVP society is good and separate to my issue)
Never be blown over by lame excuses, through your confirmation you have the right to speak what you disagree with in all truth.

This statement sums it all up: Father Boulad said that “on the pretext of openness, tolerance and Christian charity — the Catholic Church has fallen into the trap of the liberal left ideology which is destroying the West.”
As a liberal, I am appalled by the defense of islam and other identity politics (muslims, transgender and other issues) that have little relevance to our decaying democracy, It is being destroyed by religion, ultraconservatism, nepotism, wealth disparity, mean legislation, tax cuts for the 1%, and so many other conservative causes. Liberals need to align against these evils, and stop defending a completely indefensible 7th century ideology.

Fr, Boulad reminds me of former Pope Benedict XVI, without beating around the bush, questioned the violence operative in Islam when he quoted a Byzantine Emperor Manuel II Paleologus (1350-1425), who at the height of siege by Muslim Turks, said: “Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul.” “God”, the Emperor said, “is not pleased by blood – and not acting reasonably is contrary to God’s nature.” Benedict was sorely criticized. Yet, although not literally his words, he simply was just telling the truth. Not all Muslims are terrorists– but without historico-critical method applied to interpreting “toxic-verses” in the Qur’an, Muslims will be misguided and sadly led to violence.
