Alhaggagi’s attorney August Gugelmann said: “Amer is not anti-American and does not support ISIS or any other terrorist organization. He is completely nonviolent, and he took no actions to harm anyone….Amer is a very young and naïve man, and it appears he allowed himself to be drawn into conversations that he should have been far more suspicious of.”
How naive does Alhaggagi’s attorney August Gugelmann think we are? This naive, nonviolent kid got “drawn into conversations” that led him to being indicted for aiding the Islamic State, which he does not support? This naif who had “spent significant time in Yemen” just happened to fall into planning a jihad massacre, despite being “completely nonviolent”?
In today’s politically correct, propaganda-addled world, this defense, as absurd as it is, just might work.
“Oakland Man Indicted For Allegedly Aiding ISIS,” CBS SF, July 21, 2017 (thanks to gravenimage):
OAKLAND (CBS SF) – A 22-year-old Oakland man, who allegedly met with undercover agents to plan a potential terrorist attack, has been charged with attempting to set-up social media accounts for ISIS, federal prosecutors confirmed Friday.
A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Amer Sinan Alhaggagi — who has been in federal custody since last November — was indicted on Thursday by a federal grand jury on several counts including attempting to provide social media accounts for the use and benefit of ISIS.
In a detention document filed in December, federal prosecutors told the court that Alhaggagi had spent significant time in Yemen and had allegedly met undercover agents on “numerous occasions to plan a potential terrorist attack.”
In a statement, Alhaggagi’s attorney August Gugelmann denied his client knowingly was involved in terrorism.
“Amer is not anti-American and does not support ISIS or any other terrorist organization,” the statement read. “He is completely nonviolent, and he took no actions to harm anyone.”
He said Alhaggagi was “naïve” and not aware of who the individuals were that he was communicating with in chat rooms.
“The evidence we have suggests these charges are based on internet chat conversations that he had with a number of unknown people,” the statement read. “Amer is a very young and naïve man, and it appears he allowed himself to be drawn into conversations that he should have been far more suspicious of.”
It appears in some of those chatrooms were either undercover government agents or cooperating sources, according to a protective order sealing evidence in the case that was filed in December.
The order read in part that the sealed evidence included “materials describing communications that occurred between the defendant on the one hand and undercover agents and cooperating sources on the other, whose identities remain confidential and non-public.”
In the detention order for Alhaggagi filed on Dec. 20, federal prosecutors told the court that the Oakland man was “both a serious flight risk and a danger to the community.”…

Amer is not anti-American and does not support ISIS or any other terrorist organization. He is completely nonviolent
If he’s an observant Moslem, if he accepts the commands of Allah, then he most definitely *is* anti-American, and he most definitely supports religious violence. Whether he actually attempts violence or only supports it is irrelevant to the big picture, which has been a very blurry picture for some time now.

And for his efforts he should be tried, and if convicted, executed for being a traitor to the US. If we started treating these actions as treason with commensurate punishments there should be less “naïve” idiots doing idiotic things.

Someone is naive, that’s for sure, but it isn’t this guy.
Sons of Liberty says
Exactly ! He traveled to Yemen one of the hotbeds of Islamic jihad but he was just naïve and misguided. This is the kind of left wing lawyer crap that gets a lot of innocent unbelievers killed.

True, Lydia. They are just hoping that the judge or jury are naive.

Good, start jailing these weak and evil traitors to humanity. They should all rot.

Alhaggagi’s attorney August Gugelmann cannot possibly be that delusional!
Alhaggagi is old enough to know the difference between terrorism and valid, peaceful political action.
August Gugelmann should read Robert Spencer’s books and other jihad experts, such as Andrew Bostom, Bill Warner, Walid Shoebat and Stephen Coughlin. There is no doubt that Alhaggagi’s love of jihad comes from authentic Islamic primary teachings from authentic primary Islamic books.

Of course.
Indeed.

Mortimer, I doubt that Alhaggagi’s attorney August Gugelmann is delusional–he just hopes that the public is.

I would be skeptical where the FBI is involved. The FBI is notorious for convincing low-IQ individuals to go through the motions of planning terrorism when they would not normally be so inclined, then publicizing how they saved us all and asking Congress for more money.
This articles doesn’t state the circumstances of this 22-year-old going to Yemen and whether the trip was before or after the FBI or its informants started lining this guy up for a fall, or who paid for the trip.

…………………
Uh huh. Tell me, how many people here could be enticed by the FBI to join ISIS and slaughter large numbers of Infidels–if you had no inclination to do so?
There was a brilliant article here at Jihad Watch a few years ago on just this subject.
While one *might* be able to argue that normal Westerners might be entrapped by the idea of cheap or free consumer goods or even drugs or sex, that *no* non-Jihadist would be enticed by the idea of waging violent Jihad. It is just an absurd argument.

Who is paying all those (expensive) lawyers for those guys. When I went trough a divorce, I had to pay the lawyer all by myself and was bankrupt afterwards. What was left the taxes took.
But then I was good citizen, paid all my bills, took care of the children, never went to Afghanistan, Irak, Libie, Iran or any country which was oppressed, But when you don’t commit those horrible crimes, you get punished for behaving, because you don’t get any help, but when you commit crimes, you get the best lawyers and a new apartment, money when you come back, etc. And I don’t even want to discus some lawyers who have no morals either, but we will see where it all ends with this “religion of peace and those so called refugees”. I wish everybody the best of luck!!!

Excuse Me, But i’m sure you remember the old adage of Law, IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO EXCUSE ! Well, being “Naive”, “Stupid” or “Foolish” is not a Defence either !

It worked in Canada with Omar and 10.5 million. Classed as a child (throwing a grenade when he was 15 years old), too yoing, too naive.
Too sensitive and kind, a good boy. No problems before. I he is being picked on. Bullied. No safe space. Muslum lives matter. Cair will jump to his defense using all of the above.

“Now, cant we all just get along!” that is without jihadists. It really is a shame that no liberal psychologist has come up with a solution to these brain washed miscreants. Have you noticed the psycho-community has been dead silent. They don’t even quote Freud in his Abnormal Psychology thesis when these individuals are caught engaging in sexual molestation. Remember Freud’s final determination: “Its all about sex!” What needs to be understood is that Muslims are lawless. If some one is lawless they do not understand natural affection or favors – that is the reason so many are arrogant. What need to be applied is straight up punishment. Then they will understand the law; an immediate stripping of their naturalized citizen status, immediate deportation to one of several hot-spots for jihadists, a $100 US or lbs sterling, a map of the area and a permanent tattoo that easily demonstrates that they have been deported. How about 999? If they get back into the jihad business they can prove their mathematical worth to the Devil by standing upside down.
gravenimage says
Muslims aren’t lawless–instead, they believe in the horrors of Islamic law, which are apt to be much, much worse.

……………….
Yes–because “naive” people aid ISIS and plot terror attacks against innocent people all the time…sarc/off
This happened in my own city of Oakland. I fear there are others her like Amer Sinan Alhaggagi here.
I hope no one buys this ludicrous defense.
