These are enemy combatants who joined a group that has repeatedly called upon Muslims to murder non-Muslim civilians, and which considers itself to be at war with Canada and all non-Muslim nations. Dawson’s position is tantamount to calling for national suicide. Phil Gurski is correct: “Does the Canadian government have a legal, let alone a moral, responsibility to act on these people’s behalf? I think the answer is ‘No.’ They made a conscious decision to leave this country and to join a group that everyone and his dog knows is a terrorist group … ‘It sucks to be you; live with it.’ ”

“Ottawa may have no choice but to repatriate, prosecute captured Canadian ISIL members: experts,” by Tom Blackwell, National Post, July 20, 2017 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
…Some experts say Ottawa has no choice but to try to repatriate and prosecute in Canada any detained members, ensuring they aren’t tortured or otherwise mistreated by local forces. As for those ISIL children, if they have one Canadian parent, they would be citizens and, lawyers say, deserve help.
“The government has absolutely no choice but to protect the Charter rights of these Canadians,” said Lorne Dawson, a University of Waterloo professor who has extensively studied radicalized youth.
“The embassy, the consulate would have to deal with them, the way they would any Canadian who’s gotten in trouble abroad, and assist them to come home if that’s what they want to do.”
Others note there would be little public sympathy — especially after the controversial payment made to Omar Khadr — for bringing back foreign fighters, even if they were to face justice in Canada.
The French government, for one, has already said that Iraq’s court system, not France’s, should judge one of its nationals captured recently near Mosul, noted Phil Gurski, a former Canadian Security Intelligence Service analyst.

I think the answer is ‘No,’ ” said the head of the Borealis consulting company. “They made a conscious decision to leave this country and to join a group that everyone and his dog knows is a terrorist group … ‘It sucks to be you; live with it.’ ”
Andrew Gowing, a spokesman for Public Safety Canada, said the government would not speculate on what it would do with any captured Canadians, but said all citizens have a right to consular assistance….

The guy is a sociology professor, who is self described as “an agnostic with a ‘Buddhist world view’ which means he likely doesnt’t really know what the buddhist world view may or may not be, and can’t get off the pot or crap. So, he imposes his view on the world that they should take back people who are committed to homicidal tyranny. Nice fellow. Other people will have to pay for his ethics of course, not he. Those that are killed by Jihadi’s, and he will be held accountable for nothing at all.

Does anyone know the name of a Buddhist country whose government did not go to war or defend itself from invasion from invasion? I know of one Buddhist monk who packs heat, just to fight off the muslim “refugees” killing the local Thais.
Flavius Claudius Iulianus says
The Buddhist monks of Myanmar (arguably the only remaining Buddhist country in the world) are LEADING the fight against the Mohammadin hijra into their country. It’s a fight for survival and they know it.
They say, “compassion is fine but if you sleep beside a tiger it will kill you.”
Brendan Cleary says
The Buddhists of Burma, you are right, are not enthusiasts of the “religion of peace”! They want the adherents to same booted out, presto. The Thais, 95% Buddhist, to correct you, are also at war and have been for almost 70 years, with Muslims, murderous mongrels that they are, in the Southern Provinces of Thailand. Perhaps a little ironically, the Thais liberated themselves from the Burmese several centuries ago and hostilities between the two countries did not end until the mid 1800s.

We, like Europe are doomed if we continue to appease these TRAiTORS!

Blinds leading blinds and stupids leading stupids!
The west is reaping all what it planted over the last 50 years or so, in terms of the hierarchy of its values, the content of the curriculum taught, every day with ever more passion and zeal, to future generations, from kindergarten to university, materialism to the extreme, above all its arrogance, complete inflexibility and lack of adaptability to face new challenges.
As many similar cases before, there is this man, in his late fifties or so, who lives not very far from where I live, whom I see several times during the week when I pass by him, sitting on his patio. I usually wave to him from far and continue walking and only once I stopped to have a chat with him about blues music he was listening to on his loud speakers.
This second time when I stopped to talk to him, the subject became quickly about politics. Almost immediately I got to know that his father was a soldier during world war two, he’s proud of himself as a well read person who listens to the news regularly and receives daily one of the most well known national and international newspaper.to his door step, every day and that he likes Obama!
I thought to myself that he might be a good candidate, as more and more I became choosy, having enough talked to many ferociously ignorant and stupid people, to my warning about the danger of Islam and what it will do to the future of our country.
As soon as I opened my mouth, he said that he doesn’t blame the Muslims for hating us, and said- look at what the Christians did to them through the Crusades, what happened to 8000 Muslims in Bosnia, ………etc. The guy was so sure, closed to any other argument, bringing me bits and pieces of news regurgitated by the mainstream news media as they were verses from his own Bible
I knew already but this recent case confirmed and sealed it for me that this is a type of religion, call it leftist thinking or whatever you want, so widespread these days in the west, with the mainstream media as its churches or temples, the journalists and academics as its priests and guides! I just smiled and waited for the best moment to leave him and the conversation.
These people have been conditioned and wired over their life time exactly as how young children have been conditioned throughout their developing years in Muslim countries to become what they have become now as adults.
Unfortunately the whole thing is putrefied and rotten to its core in the west, these days; Islam is merely spoiling and making full use of it. The west started digging its own grave several decades ago and its burial time is very fast approaching.

A purely christian culture would accept it all as a great martyrdom to be overthrown. Its probably just aswell its judeo-christian combined with science and a self-protective dose of ethnonationalism emerging at times lol.
I follow strictly jihad rules on ethnonationalism. its a struggle of the self. Then its a defensive jihad. Then it might become offensive…
I’m happy to include a wide variety of races and faiths into the bargain though , namely, all those which donot carry out inordinate amounts of terrorism attacks or take to the streets preaching in gangs and raping young girls…but, every bargain for co-existence has a limit.
gravenimage says
The idea that Christians just roll over for aggression is *quite* mistaken. We would not be free today if Christians had not fought back against Islam for centuries.
AzB says
That has more to do with European monarchies than Christianity in its essential sense. How hard did Jesus and then afterwards any of the apostles resist martyrdom. Or most of the early persecuted Christians. It is essentially a non-violent religious teaching .
On the other hand the Church which was built on top of it adopted more concepts such as just and holy wars to defend christendom in order to avoid being defeated. Once it became the religion of kings and emperors in europe, it was assured a much greater degree of military protection of course; and the defacto religion of the armies too. Which ti still is, really. There is still May Day parade and prayers in British army even though the number of actual active christians is probably no more than 20% today. Plus others who put it down on birth certificate but don’t follow or attend any services.
IN any case the connection between christianity and army was due to the conversion of european aristocracy to the religion. Not really due to the teaching of christ i would have said.
Kings gave the religion its shelter; the religion itself is still essentially non-violent. no christians fought back against the romans. they accepted martyrdom. its still today more successful int he world in general as a religion of the poor and the needy (in terms of where it is growing aroudn the world). It is declining in rich countries after the decimatino of world wars caused a great collapse in faith in the moral order after empires and so on.
it’ll take a while to get that back i think. Generally christianity has been appealing to people when it present as a humble thing, in a time of hardship. I’m not convinced the fighting belong to the essential message to be honest; or was rather christianity receive this bastion because of its historical uptake by powerful rulers. ?
AzB says
i fully agree Europe would have succumbed at least twice without the combination of aristocracies armies christianity and science prevailing on this continent.

I am SO incensed at these idiots who are helping destroy my “home and native land” Traitors all who deserve to be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail along with all those politicians who appease and protect or enrich terrorists from and in Canada.
GRRRRRRRRRR !!!!!!!! Doesn’t even begin to describe my anger.
Once those who turn to terrorism make that decision they are no longer Canadian but are stateless morons who deserve to only die by the sword that they themselves have forged.

I’m Canadian. These people have made a conscious choice to go abroad to fight for an organization which has declared war on Canada, and all other western countries.
These people are therefore traitors.
We should be stripping traitors of their Canadian citizenship. If they make it back to Canada they should be arrested for treason and treated accordingly.
But, unfortunately, we have Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada in power in Ottawa. With Justin at the helm, these traitors will undoubtedly be welcomed back to Canada with open arms and, if Omar Khadr is an example, be well compensated for their treason.

Another liberal professor determined to render democracy so stupid it actually breaks. I mean seriously.
I like he doesn’t accompany his remarks by anything further such as “this might be something we want to look into – because it seems morally offensive – and loss of citizenship might create a disincentive for people to leave in the first place”.
Nope. Just quote the law born in a more innocent time and say “hands are tied”. That’s all liberals ever do. Point to laws and say hands are tied. They don’t care what popular sentiment is really. Or public safety.
They’re an increasingly illogical class of people. Don’t blame yourself liberals if democracy completely breaks in the future because of your incessant dithering and idiocy on such issues.
AzB says

Outrage all you want at the the prof. What he stated is true. A Canadian citizen outside of Canada, no matter the reason and no matter how vile their actions, is entitled to consular assistance. To argue otherwise is ill informed and frankly, unpatriotic.
For the folks wish it wasn’t true in regards to Jihadis? Create a petition, you need 5.000 signatures and an MP to sponsor for it be heard in the House of Commons. Lobby your local MP to look into the situation. Perhaps a bill outlining stronger sentences and additional penalties for those found fighting in foreign conflicts would be a good place to start. Complaining about it to other folks in the echo chamber of the JW comment section is pointless hand wringing.
Sarah says
Oh you dumb idiot. So if the laws as they currently stand, essentially protect those scumbags, then CHANGE THE LAWS. Its not like the public will have trouble getting behind that vote.
Its crazy to say with a shrug of the shoulders ‘whelp, the laws say that we have to let them back in, despite the fact that they’ll kill us all – as they’ve been doing exactly that for the last few years in Syria’
And here I thought, just by the looks of him and his profession (Sociology Professor) that he’d have some intelligence – enough to understand that laws can be changed and sometimes NEED to be changed.
This guy must have fried himself in his young years, back at Woodstock. Bloody Baby Boomer hippie.
Call me old fashioned, but my expectations of educators include a few basic requirements. Do not teach the kids what YOU believe, teach the kids the facts and teach them to make up their own mind. Teach them HOW TO THINK, not WHAT TO THINK. Oh and don’t prey on students for sex, because that’s obscene.
That’s all. Be objective in your teachings and please don’t be a sexual predator. Its not too much to ask, I think.
I don’t want his Baby Boomer, 60s revival, Woodstock loving political ideologies seeping into his job. While he listens to Lennon and wants to give peace a chance, he’s forcing kids to think what he wants them to think. Kind of ironic really. I’m strongly reminded of Pink Floyd’s, Another Brick in the Wall.
He probably cracks out his deluxe special double edition of The Wall most weekends. Fine, as a matter of fact, I do too – so no judgements there – but perhaps he should LISTEN. ‘Leave those kids alone, all in all you’re just a, ‘nother brick in the wall.’ Remember that, Mr Sociology? Remember that when teaching your kids. Stop filling their heads with your agenda.
And for Pete’s sake, use the brain you clearly have and wake up. You are telling your nation to invite home, a bunch of violent, deranged torturing murderers and sadists. What the hell is wrong with you?
UNCLE VLADDI says
