I recently wrote about Macron at Jihad Watch, wondering where the French leader was headed given his mixed signals and recent determination to stand beside President Trump for the G-20 photo op.
Macron now says with regard to fighting jihad:
When it comes to fighting terrorism, I can say from day one we have seen eye to eye and we are strongly determined to take any necessary measures to root out terrorism and eradicate it no matter where
Just wondering whether that means that Macron is willing to stop Muslim migration into France, akin to Trump’s temporary ban, or will he adopt the restrictive immigration policy of his fellow European leaders Victor Orban and Beata Szydlo, who have flatly refused to take in more migrants despite punitive threats from the EU for violating its rules regarding migrant quotas.
Macron’s outward starry-eyed face-to-face demeanor in Trump’s presence is likely shallow unless he has shifted since he became leader of France. Back in April, Macron promised “to rip up border controls between France and the UK,” which provoked fear of a “new migrant crisis.”
“Trump, Macron Vow to Fight Islamic Terrorism”, by Jack Montgomery, Breitbart, July 13, 2017:
U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron have pledged to step up cooperation in the fight against Islamic terrorism and online radicalism.
The pair were holding a joint press conference on the eve of Bastille Day, an important national day marred by a mass-casualty terror attack in the French city of Nice in 2016.
Macron told the assembled reporters he had had a “long discussion” with the U.S. President, ranging over many different security challenges.
“When it comes to fighting terrorism, I can say from day one we have seen eye to eye and we are strongly determined to take any necessary measures to root out terrorism and eradicate it no matter where,” he said, mentioning measures to tackle online propaganda and cyber crime in particular.
President Trump took the opportunity pay his respects to the victims of the Nice attack, recalling that, “Tomorrow will mark one year since a joyous Bastille Day celebration turned into a massacre.”
“We all remember that – how horrible that was. We mourn the 86 lives that were stolen and we pray for their loved ones.
“We also renew our resolve to stand against these enemies of humanity, and to strip them of their territory, their funding, their networks, and their ideological support,” he pledged.
President Trump indicated that he and Macron had discussed ways their countries could “strengthen [their] vital security partnerships” in meetings with generals and other representatives from the armed forces and security services……

Lee Quan Hu rode into power on the back of the communists and trasformed a dump of an island into what it is today Singapore. Many have said they don’t really know Macron and maybe only his wife really knows him. OK lets give him the benefit of the doubt if I were him I would be moving to the right and quietly getting rid of ner do wells out of the country.

Nice to see that at least there is verbal indications of co operation !
Proof of course will be in the actions & FRANCE is very late with anything like this !!

Yes he deserves a chance.
At least he’s starting to talk a bit of the talk, we should soon see what he’s really made of.
I didn’t have even the tiniest bit of optimism about his election victory, but I cannot remember ever wanting to be proved wrong about something, or someone, than I do now.

This nut job Macron is too stupid to do anything against jihadis. He has not spoken against uncontrolled jihadi immigrants coming in every day.
He is just another Trudeau / Merkel of France.
mortimer says
Agree. The problem is not solved by importing more jihad terrorists! Importing more jihadist migrants is increasing and accelerating the problem!
mortimer says
Macron is whistling past the graveyard. No Western country will respond in the draconian manner that will subdue the jihadist spirit by eliminating all who preach jihad. No they will increase surveillance and move only AFTER a crime is committed. They will not fight the jihadic IDEOLOGY which inspires the terrorism.
Only a radical, ‘ABSOLUTE DEPROGRAMMING’ of Muslims RIGHT OUT OF ISLAM will be effective in eradicating Islamic terrorism. When former terrorists are deprogramming other terrorists, the eradication of all Islamic terrorist will be accomplished by the former perpetrators of it. Once thousands of fanatical jihadists are deprogrammed RIGHT OUT OF ISLAM, they will write books, articles and give speeches and participate in debates and rapidly debunk the jihadic ideology and Islam itself, thus liberating millions of Muslims from this evil Death Cult.
“IT’S THE IDEOLOGY, STUPID!”
Frank Anderson says
Mortimer, we have discussed several times “deprogramming”. Can you please tell us what you mean-perhaps the only available methods are inappropriate for publication. But I still see very little hope of a general deprogramming of devout Muslims. There are of course notable and to me highly honorable exceptions. The “law of large numbers” has always proved, “That which is not prohibited is required.” But I continue to ask, please explain what you can of the deprogramming that you continue to advocate. Please.
Daniel Triplett says
Mortimer, you’re an intelligent thinker.
Please articulate exactly what you mean by “deprogramming.” You have many intelligent posts on JW. You’re obviously a studious, Counter-jihadist, and I respect you as a fellow soldier in this epic war.
I don’t see how this 1400 year war will be resolved without violence. I’ve articulated a plan regularly and extensively for our victory, which includes violence. How am I wrong? I’d prefer to be wrong Mortimer. Taking people’s lives, even our enemies’ lives, gives me no pleasure. But as a US Military Officer, having studied millennia of war strategy, and learning the current strategies the US Military believes will best give us victory, I know all that matters is putting America’s interests first, above all others. What matters is not what’s “fair.” What matters is “What’s best for America.” That’s how military officers think.
The Saudis have already tried (deradicalization programs). They’ve failed spectacularly.
Shall I infer you believe our grandfathers were mistaken with their Strategic Area Bombing strategies to “deprogram” Shinto and Nazi adherents? Do you have a better, less violent strategy that would’ve successfully achieved victory more quickly than the violent strategy our grandfathers used to deprogram our enemies’ objectives? Was there even any time for experimentation back then? Is there time now?
Frank Anderson says
Daniel, I have asked Mortimer why he repeatedly beats a drum for deprogramming and then fails to respond when I ask for details. How would one do mass deprogramming of Nazis, Communists or Japanese before WWII? How would anyone convince Japanese society, which not only committed mass murder, but also mass suicide, to change their ways? Mortimer other than deprogramming makes a lot of sense that I have no trouble supporting. But to me deprogramming is a delusional exercise in what Viktor Frankl described as “the delusion of reprieve” in Mans Search for Meaning. Facing reality may be the first step to dealing with it. Please Mortimer respond and tell us what you mean if you can.
gravenimage says
Mortimer, I agree with Frank and Daniel. You do fine analysis–but you are deeply wedded to the idea that Muslims can be “deprogrammed”, despite the fact that this has never been done.
Jerry says
“…root out terrorism and eradicate it no matter where.”
Would that include the mosques in your nation where they teach that sh*t? They all carry the same book with the same violence against us, isn’t that a good place to start?
How can he talk so bold against terror but still ignore the ideological motivation that causes it? That’s like the allies defeating Nazi Germany but allowing them to still hold rallies and wave the swastika. The ideology was suppressed because it was their inspiration and motivation for attacking and killing others. Ya don’t have to be a sociologist to know that allowing muslims to teach and spread their filth is going to lead to more seditious activity and terror. He talks about tackling “online propaganda,” but the propaganda that’s causing all this violence is in the koran and hadith. The teachings in those writings are anti-democratic, anti-human rights, and violent. Nothing could be more dangerous online than simply repeating what’ s written in those books. This whole idea of tackling online propaganda is just a euphemism for, “We’re going to crush free speech.” That way we won’t have to hear all those pesky islamophobes whining and complaining about the immorality and brutality of islam. More than anything that’s what he means. If they were truly worried about dangerous propaganda they’d outlaw the violence and hate muslims call divine truth. That’s where it all starts and it always comes back to that.
John W. says
And fighting terrorism is really only one piece of the puzzle as so many here know. Very few leaders will say the problem is Islam as Mr. Wilders of the NL has stated. You can’t really fight terrorism to the fullest without examining the ideology that leads to it.
Troybeam says
Macron does not know terrorism even when its staring him in the face every time he leaves his home, the filth, the garbage, the violence, the attacks on the French people and all he wants to do is open his border doors to more, so let Macron have a few guests inside his home of these people he wants to support and if he makes it out alive will that change his mind? Not.
Frank Anderson says
I suspect it would be futile to even try to list historical examples of lies believed by delusional suckers that have permitted missed opportunities to solve problems. Those who refuse to pay attention and critically evaluate both the source and the statement for truthfulness will fall for anything that means they don’t have to work. Macron may be telling the truth. I would not bet my life or freedom, or the liberty of my society on his story until I see action. Until then, in the immortal words, “Trust but Verify.” Don’t bet everything on an uncertain “change of heart”. Wait and see before relaxing that he will act to protect a NUCLEAR ARMED country that is nearly gone to the dogs.

To me, Macron is this stand-up comics, a verbal equilibrist, slick as an advertisement agent and ready to promise anything to anybody. — I’m eager to be proved wrong this time. But, as we have seen with another imposter, the Amateur Obama, this can be a catastrophe.

Macron is an opportunist. Once he notices that winds are blowing from other directions, he will adapt at no time. On footnote here, Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, later known as emperor Napoleon III, ran presidential campaign on populist tones and won election in the landslide, not unlike Macron. Those who promise to just everybody rarely can deliver to anybody.
