Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

California: Catholic school removes statues to avoid offending Muslims

Aug 26, 2017 12:33 pm By Robert Spencer

“The students attending San Domenico come from a variety of religious backgrounds besides Christianity: Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam.”

Hmmm. Which of those four is likely to have been the only one objecting to the presence of these statues? And so here again we see the universal principle: in Muslim countries, one must change one’s behavior to suit Muslim sensibilities. And in non-Muslim countries, one must change one’s behavior to suit Muslim sensibilities.

“Leave them; they are blind guides. And if a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.” (Matthew 15:14)

“San Anselmo’s San Domenico School creates stir by removing Catholic statues,” by Richard Halstead, Marin Independent Journal, August 24, 2017:

Removal of a number of statues and other smaller Catholic icons from the campus of San Domenico School in San Anselmo has raised concerns among some parents.

In an email to the school’s board of directors, Dominican Sisters of San Rafael and the head of school, Shannon Fitzpatrick objected to the removal of the statues and other steps the school has taken in an effort to make the school more inclusive.

“Articulating an inclusive foundation appears to mean letting go of San Domenico’s 167-year tradition as a Dominican Catholic school and being both afraid and ashamed to celebrate one’s heritage and beliefs,” wrote Fitzpatrick, whose 8-year-old son attends the school.

She added, “In our time here, the word ‘Catholic’ has been removed from the mission statement, sacraments were removed from the curriculum, the lower school curriculum was changed to world religions, the logo and colors were changed to be ‘less Catholic,’ and the uniform was changed to be less Catholic.”

Responding to follow-up questions Monday, Fitzpatrick wrote, “There are other families having the same concerns I do. Many parents feel if the school is heading in a different direction then the San Domenico community should have been notified before the signing of the enrollment for the following year.”

Cheryl Newell, who had four children graduate from San Domenico, said, “I am extremely disappointed in the school and the direction they’ve been going. This isn’t a new thing that they’ve been intentionally eroding their Catholic heritage. They’re trying to be something for everyone and they’re making no one happy,”

Kim Pipki, whose daughter left San Domenico two years ago after graduating from ninth grade, said some of the statues were also important to families who aren’t Catholic.

“The one main statue that has everyone fired up is the baby Jesus and Mary one,” Pipki said. “It was at the center of the primary school courtyard.”

Pipki said the school had a ceremony during which children would place a crown on the statue of Mary.

“It was less about God and more about passing on some traditions,” Pipki said. “People were shocked that the statues were pitched in the basement.”

Amy Skewes-Cox, who heads San Domenico School’s board of trustees, said the relocation and removal of some of the school’s 180 religious icons was “completely in compliance” with San Domenico’s new strategic plan, approved unanimously by the board of trustees and the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael last year. She said at least 18 icons remain, including a statue of St. Dominic at the center of the campus.

She noted that it was unfortunate the removal of the statues occurred at about the same time as the unrest in Charlottesville over the removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, and that the issues are “totally different” and have “absolutely no connection other than it is change, and people have a hard time with change.”…

One of the strategic plan’s stated goals is to “strengthen San Domenico’s identity as an independent school” and clearly articulate its “inclusive spiritual foundation.”

San Domenico was founded by the Dominican Sisters in 1850 as an independent, Catholic school — meaning that it is not owned or operated by a parish or religious order.

“San Domenico is both a Catholic school and an independent school,” said Head of School Cecily Stock, “but what we were finding after doing some research is that in the broader community we are known as being a Catholic school and are not necessarily known as an independent school. We want to make sure that prospective families are aware that we are an independent school.”

Of the 660 students who attend the K-12 school, 121 are boarding students and 98 of these are international students from British Columbia, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Mexico, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. The students attending San Domenico come from a variety of religious backgrounds besides Christianity: Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam….

According to Catholic teaching when God appeared in the form of Jesus Christ depictions of God’s form became legitimate. Even the Koran has God in the Burning bush of Moses’ Mt. Sinai.
According to Catholic doctrine Muhammad is a false prophet. Muhammad’s Koran says that Jesus did not die on the cross or resurrect. As Jesus predicted both his crucifixion and subsequent resurrection, both cannot be bona fide divine teachers. I think the Catholic church holds that Jesus” predictions are true and Muhammad’s are not.
In the last 2000 years no statues have been removed from Roman Catholic churches because they offended the Jews.
There is a Muslim Turkish story where a priest wanted to convert to Islam. The Imam told him not to but to gradually change the church service over the years until it was no different that that of the mosque. In a few years all the christians were engaged in synchronized prayers-namaz/salat. Same tactics here, only the church is doing the changing.

Parents will have no choice but to take their children out of San Domenico and create a new traditionally Catholic school that is not ashamed of teaching Catholicism.

It seems that in its pursuit of income(to remain viable), through its services and schools, the US Catholic church is becoming more secular/practical and less Christian – not in the caring sense, but rather in the spiritual/doctrinal sense. Perhaps the statues and artifacts don’t have as much meaning these days; making it easier to remove them.

I could be wrong but it appears as if the liberal left secularists and the church are blending into a common humanitarianism.

True Wellington. But since the school has hired a Muslim “director of philosophy, ethics and world religion” who blatantly lies about what Catholics believe, this will certainly speed up the process.
From the article, “Mirza Khan, the school’s director of philosophy, ethics and world religions, said, “The Dominican teaching philosophy is not to teach there is only one truth. It is to foster conversation, to intentionally invite in participants that have different perspectives in a very open-ended process of philosophical and spiritual inquiry. That has been a long-standing part of the Dominican tradition.”

Khan, whose father and grandfather were Sufi teachers in India, received a bachelor’s degree in comparative religion at Bard College. Before becoming a teacher at San Domenico about 10 years ago, he worked as a research assistant to a professor at Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Khan said during his time in Jerusalem he got to see first-hand how devastating it can be when religions are in conflict.”

So Khan, described as a descendant of Sufi teachers rather than Muslim imams as not to mention the fact that he is most likely a Muslim, thinks removing the ideas that make religions what they are will somehow remove conflict. Clearly a wolf in sheeps clothing.

    • Jack Diamond says

      Aug 26, 2017 at 3:32 pm

Well, they do and they don’t. Strictly speaking Muslims don’t have statues. Certainly they will destroy yours. But Muslims have plenty of idolatry.

In fact, a pious Muslim wouldn’t have pictures of people or animals in their home (including a television), let alone statues. But of course, they do have those things in their home. Just as there are all kinds of elaborate burial monuments and mausoleums for important Muslims in all sorts of Muslim countries, and there’s that matter of having the tallest buildings in the world, or of the minarets that must tower over churches, all monuments to the supremacism of Islam. So, is it just a matter of not following their own creed sufficiently?

The Ka’ba itself is a pagan temple. A great many of the Hajj rituals come from pre-Islamic paganism and pure idolatry. Throwing stones at the devil; circumambulating the Ka’ba {seven times based on the pagan idea there were 7 orbiting planets, including the Sun, yet another “mistake” Allah makes about our universe in the Qur’an}; the run between Mounts Safa and Marwa; kissing the black stone, a pagan practice continued by Muhammad (to the astonishment of some of his followers at the time). What is this but carrying on pagan idol worship? Then there is Allah himself, worshipped as a pagan idol previous to Islam

The identity of “four sacred months” and the prohibitions on fighting during them, are entirely pagan and pre-Islamic (later abrogated by Muhammad so Muslims could fight any time). The five daily prayers and Fridays prayers existed with the pagans. Sniffing water up the nostrils, circumcision, the cutting off the right hand of a thief, the symbol of the crescent moon, the pilgrimage to the Ka’aba itself, are all pagan idolatry incorporated into Islam. Finally, and most scandalous, there is the idolatry of Muhammad {“I am only mortal like you”), the clear equating of Allah and Muhammad, which are at the center of Islam:

“It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision” Q 33:36; “Indeed, those who ask your permission, [O Muhammad] – those are the ones who believe in Allah and His Messenger. So when they ask your permission for something of their affairs, then give permission to whom you will among them and ask forgiveness for them of Allah” Q 24:62.

Bukhari v2bk24n533 “Muhammad will intercede with Allah to judge amongst the people”; echoing Qur’an 4:64: “We sent no Messenger save that he should be obeyed by Allah’s slave. And if, when they had wronged themselves, they had but come unto thee and asked forgiveness of Allah, and asked forgiveness of the Messenger.”

This clearly makes Muhammad a partner of Allah, and this is Shirk, according to Islam’s own criteria.
The heart of Islam is the Sunnah, the words and deeds of Muhammad. Why is insulting Muhammad (not so much Allah) the most infuriating and murder-inducing thing you can do to a Muslim?”

    • abad says

      Aug 26, 2017 at 5:33 pm

No, but if you want to see “Muslim” artwork depicting people or animals you’d have to look at Persian culture/history – for example, the Shah Nameh or Layla and Majnun.

        Aug 26, 2017 at 6:48 pm

The Qur’an, interestingly, only prohibits worshipping images, not the fashioning of them. It is the hadiths that give us these absolutist condemnations of any image making. Meanwhile, the Qur’an clearly prohibits making idols of stones (5:90; 21:66) yet Muhammad kisses the black stone.

        Narrated ‘Abis bin Rabia:
‘Umar came near the Black Stone and kissed it and said, “No doubt, I know that you are a stone AND CAN NEITHER BENEFIT ANYONE NOR HARM ANYONE. Had I not seen Allah’s Apostle kissing you I would not have kissed you.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 26, Number 667)

“Do you then worship beside GOD what possesses no power to benefit you or harm you?” S. 21:66

O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination,- of Satan’s handwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper. S. 5:90

Muhammad was quite the innovator. He kisses the black stone and makes it an idol for Muslims, in spite of this being expressly condemned in both the Qur’an and the Bible. He bans the making of images, something permitted by both the Qur’an and the Bible. {I mention the Bible because Biblical stories are used for evidence in the Qur’an and Abraham is used by Muslims (ludicrously) as the excuse for Muhammad venerating the black stone}.

Judaism and Christianity both offend Muslims. “Allah” is the Islamic deity. Which doesn’t exist.

    • Wellington says

      Aug 26, 2017 at 5:43 pm

Michael Copeland: Jesus (Mary too) does not offend Muslims per se. But what does offend Muslims is the Christian assertion that Jesus was God personally present on earth in human form for a third of century. Thus Christian statues of Jesus (Mary too as the “Mother of God”) are profoundly offensive to Muslims (after all, so much is and so easily so with followers of the Religion of Perpetual Outrage) because of the “deification factor.”

Also, Islam is iconoclastic and this in and of itself prevents Muslims from honoring depictions of God or its many prophets, which prophets Islam has appropriated from the Judeo-Christian tradition to itself, for instance Noah, Abraham, Moses and, of course, Jesus, the last of whom, according to Islamic theology, is going to come back at the end of the world and throw all Christians into Hell for deifying Him (this is just part of the reason why any Christian who thinks Islam should be accorded respect is either an ignoramus, a fool, or both).

Burn all cell phones and laptops in the fire as well. Save those por children from porn and ideas. Get more priests in for the young boys, and lots of imans for the young girls. Or husbands over 44. And cut those boys and girls genitals!! Change the plumbing to lead pipe and solder as it wears out, it is far cheaper for the American taxpayer. Bury some of the 300 million tones of nuclear waste in the courtyard after the fires go out, unless the library is not exhausted of fuel. Oh, and get the children of the 1% into the school.

Would you want to number yourself among those who made this decision?

“But he that shall deny me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 10:33

Standing for the Lord such as witnessing (including the silent witness of statues), delivering tracts, leading a Christian life, all of these and more are following the Lord’s Great Commission, also found in Matthew, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Muslims need the Lord Jesus as much as anyone. Those in charge of this putative Catholic school are not showing Christian love. Here they have in attendance children from all kinds of backgrounds and faiths. What better opportunity to witness. And remember, the parents who send their kids to this school did so knowing it was a Catholic school.

Um, yes…being Catholic is the same as being Christian.

The ‘universal’ (Gr: ‘kataholos” i.e. ‘Catholic’) Church is the one founded by Jesus of Nazareth, the Jewish Messiah.

And, for the first 1500 years after the Crucifixion of Jesus, ALL Christians were CATHOLIC Christians.

Why would Muslim parents send their children to a Dominican school, unless either 1) they aren’t that committed to Mohammedanism and wanted a better quality education than a madrassa; or 2) they wanted their foot in the door to undermine and transform the school.

I’m going with the second. Why not tell them, if they don’t like the school, there are other options for those who find Catholic Christianity offensive.

      • Jack Diamond says

        Aug 26, 2017 at 6:17 pm

Muslims in the West tend to see them as providing a better education than public schools, and that they require more discipline and morality from students. Lack of good Islamic schools (sic) and/or lack of commitment to full-on Muhammadism play into it. There are also lots of fellow Muslims in Catholic schools, another reason these schools “impose” their faith less and less. This is a mistake.

Still Muslim religious authorities discourage this exposure, in general, unless the child is firmly indoctrinated in Islam, fearing exposure to “shirk” and all the other ways Muslims can be lured from their religion.

Catholic schools should begin teaching their pupils about Islam. As understood by Urban II. By King Sobieski. By Pius V and those in the Holy League who defended Christendom from Muslim invasion. What St. John of Damascus and St. Thomas Aquinas thought about Islam, why it was considered a heresy and even of Satan. {Vatican II was a non-binding council, pastoral not dogmatic, including what it had to say about Islam}.

There might become fewer Muslims sending their kids there.

It mirrors precisely the reason they move to countries with cultures they despise, and precisely the behaviour of the pusillanimous authorities running those countries.

It is called “civilisational jihad”, and it is orders of magnitude more dangerous than the pea-brained violent variety. Check out the numbers of muslims in high places in Britain and Europe, not to mention Canada and America and Australia, starting with the Mayor of London itself.

The death of the west has begun… We deny and hide our identities in the basement while Muslims shout theirs from the top of rooftops.
How much more easier can we possibly make it for Muslim takeover?
Maybe the west and all it’s complacent leftist sellouts really need to experience the wrath of a totalitarian force like Islam. Unfortunately all of us will have to go through the same mill as well because of their stupidity.

What these administrators are doing is addressed in numerous articles and books one of which is Lefebvre’s “Open Letter to Confused Catholics”. The title of the that book solves any confusion about people like these administrators. Being a former resident of Marin County I can speak to the insanity that has lodged therein! Just think..Barbara Boxer was conceived there.

In Islamic countries, Catholic schools have all the Christian religious symbols and assembly prayers. It is unheard of , any objection from muslims. It is very sad, Catholic school leadership coming up baseless and self invented excuses to remove the Catholic religious symbols. Who they are serving God or Satan? What is next?

Which Islamic countries are you talking about? Saudi Arabia does not allow any Christian religious symbols, and all Islamic societies, to varying degrees, discriminate against Christians and other non-Muslims.

I am Jewish, and went to a Catholic University for 3 1/2 years.

The student body (at the campus where I went) was about 60% Catholic, and 40% other- with about 30% of the other ( say 12-15%) Jewish.

NOBODY, that I knew or knew of, in the 3 1/2 years, ever objected to the statues of Jesus, Mary, etc., crucifixes in the classrooms, etc.

WE WENT FOR AN EDUCATION. PERIOD. END OF THE STORY.

There is too much of this kind of thing going on, which undermines Christian values in Christian countries.
Apart from bringing terrorism to the Christian world, immigrant Muslim populations are supported by host Christian countries who support that there is a religious difference and allow the Muslims to have their own religion, the building of mosque and allowing their children to go to Muslim only schools.
Muslims should not be able to dictate what the religion and culture is allowable in existing Christian schools.
If they do not want their children to interface with our Christian beliefs, then they should not be allowed in Christian schools. Why should the host country have to change their values for Muslim complaints?
Try to find a Christian school or a church in the Middle east.
Try to walk through customs at a Middle East airport, with a Christian bible or even wearing a crucifix!

There should be NO bending of Christian rules in a Christian country, to support any Muslim immigrants who have chosen to become citizens of a Christian host country… Including any Sharia Laws.

The school preaches diversity and inclusiveness (fake) and therefore along those lines a statue of Jesus, the intolerant bigot. must be removed. Christ’s values are not their values and after all, they are far better than he was, don’t you know.

    • Es175 says

      Aug 27, 2017 at 11:52 am

Not their “values” ? They can go elsewhere if they don’t like it.

This incident is not about religion. Those statues, that art, and philosophy are symbols of WESTERN culture. The christian religion doesn’t define Western culture but it is an important part of the development of Western culture for about 1000 years. I am NOT religious, but that’s history. Too bad if you don’t like it.

Everywhere the intolerant and hateful muslims go, they use the western tolerance and “freedom of speech rights” as a tool to impose their ignorance on the host nation. These rights DON’T exist in the violent illiterate countries they come from. Understand ???? See the problem yet??

Why does it continue? Because democratic modern societies are convenience societies, populated by people who have become mentally lazy, and weak. Most people don’t need to think much any more and they don’t. Most people can’t do anything for themselves and don’t care about anything outside their dull lives. It’s a weakness, and a malaise.

But, It’s always the muslims that are “offended”, isn’t it? It should be obvious why that is.

I don’t respect their religion (or yours), and I don’t care if they are offended.

Statues are historical documents that represent the politics of their time, they have no bearing on present day thinking. It is interesting that the statue destroyers (including the voluntary pre-emptors) are mirroring the actions of groups like the Taliban who wish to destroy history to assert their own single minded dogma.

Muslims will always be offended by anything non-Muslim – we have no duty to honor their Fascist views. The path of appeasement is the road to capitulation – something Muslims understand very well.

    • Es175 says

      Aug 27, 2017 at 12:00 pm

      Yes, that’s the proper solution.
It’s simple. It just takes a little courage for the school administrators. And they can teach common sense in the process. “You don’t like it here? This is voluntary, you chose to send your kids here. Leave if you don’t like it”.

It’s not religious or political. Just common sense.

        That’s just it.

Catholic schools, like other private schools, can decide who to admit and who not to admit, and who to expel, if the school rules are not followed. I attended a Catholic high school, only one boy was expelled for trying to sell illegal drugs. He was sent off to boot camp though…

As the practice of Christianity decreases, the practice of Islam increases.
Countries where Christianity is nothing but a name, such as France, Germany, The UK, Canada, The Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden are the very countries where Islam is moving in rapidly and replacing those who still have the label “Christian,” but who don’t deserve it.

What speeds up the process is the actions of self-hating Christians, who are ashamed of Christianity, and who are willing to do anything to hasten the process of takeover by Islam.

Shame on Christians who forget that once they know their Saviour Jesus, they are to spread the Word so that others would know Him too. And some don’t even want their silent witnesses, the statues, to “speak”. Well, their salary, the money has a big mouth, doesn’t it?

“Who is going to save our Church? Not our Bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to the people. You have the minds, the eyes, the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops like bishops and your religious act like religious” – Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

“Take away the supernatural and what remains is the unnatural.” – G.K. Chesterton

“Tolerance is the virtue of man without convictions.” – G.K. Chesterton

“It is not that when men cease to believe in God they will believe in nothing, they will believe in anything” – G.K. Chesterton

I am worried by the Blessed Virgin’s messages to Lucy of Fatima. This persistence of Mary about the dangers which menace the Church is a Divine warning against the suicide of altering the Faith, in Her liturgy, Her theology and Her soul. … I hear all around me innovators who wish to dismantle the Sacred Chapel, destroy the universal flame of the true Faith of the Church, reject Her ornaments and make Her feel remorse for Her historical past.A day will come when the civilized world will deny its God, when the Church will doubt as Peter doubted. She will be tempted to believe that man has become God. In our churches, Christians will search in vain for the red lamp where God awaits them. Like Mary Magdalene, weeping before the empty tomb, they will ask, ‘Where have they taken Him?’

They need to get down on their knees and pray for forgiveness and put the statues back. If the Muslims don’t like it let them go to another school. If you are a true Christian, Catholic you need to follow in Jesus’s footsteps. He would have never kowtowed to any oppressive sect or government. He did not bow to Pilate nor others who hated him. These people should be ashamed. Inclusiveness be damned.
