And not only that: “When reflexively anti-American, anti-military outlets like Mother Jones, Slate and the Washington Post offer fawning praise for a Republican military commander, the reasons underlying those plaudits deserve further investigation. When anti-American, anti-military, George Soros-funded, extreme leftist smear operations like Media Matters go to war to defend a Trump political appointee, it casts a shadow on everything about the man. When the anti-American, terrorism-supporting, Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated CAIR defends an American general, the alarm bells drown out all other sound.”
Indeed.
It’s probably useless to call upon Trump to fire McMaster at this point. McMaster and the swamp have triumphed over those who came to drain it. But maybe someday Trump will remember the principles and promises that got him elected, and the ringing declarations of his Inaugural Address of giving the government back to the people, and on that day, McMaster will finally be packing.
“BOMBTHROWERS EXCLUSIVE: National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster: A legend or a lie?,” by James Simpson, Bombthrowers, August 29, 2017 (thanks to John):
Fresh on the heels of a successful offensive in Mosul, Iraq, the Iraqi military is now poised to retake Tal Afar, long a hotbed of ISIS and other insurgent activity. Before we pulled out of Iraq, Tal Afar, like Fallujah, had been the focal point of multiple large-scale, costly offensives to eject entrenched insurgents. In 2005, then-Colonel H.R. McMaster led the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment (3rd ACR) in the largest of these offensives, Operation Restoring Rights. His reputation as a brilliant military strategist rests largely on the results of that one battle. Given the widespread support for McMaster in the media and Washington establishment, it is ironic that current reporting largely fails to mention this battle or McMaster’s central role in it.
McMaster’s widely-hyped strategic acumen has been called into question by high-level military sources with personal knowledge of his conduct in the field. These sources spoke with me on condition of anonymity.
McMaster rests his laurels on the counter-insurgency strategy he claims won the Battle of Tal Afar, Iraq. But sources say McMaster ignored counter-insurgency experts and that his reckless leadership killed hundreds of Americans and almost lost the battle. The battle, the sources say, was won only through a valiant rescue mission that also suffered high casualties.
Until today this information has been suppressed.
Today, National Security Advisor McMaster is facing sustained criticism for his seemingly relentless opposition to Trump policies, his purging of many competent, conservative Trump loyalists from the National Security Council staff, and “protecting and coddling” 40 Obama holdovers — almost one-sixth of the NSC staff — who are plainly out to sabotage the Trump agenda.
Yet he continues to enjoy President Trump’s support. Is President Trump reluctant to fire McMaster for fear of criticism? Has he decided that McMaster’s reputed military genius is worth the cost? Or has he been thoroughly misinformed about McMaster’s character and competence? Who is H.R. McMaster really?
Lieutenant General (three-star) Herbert Raymond McMaster is a career Army officer still on active duty. He came to the Trump administration as a quick replacement for Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn (Ret.), who resigned over controversies regarding his contacts with Russian officials. Whatever Flynn may have done wrong, his true sin was bucking the D.C. establishment, including many military leaders. And as frequently happens in Washington, when a strong conservative political appointee faces widespread (often manufactured) controversy, the knee-jerk reaction is to find a replacement the establishment likes. McMaster fits the bill.
On the surface, he appears to have the right resume. He has been awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, the Legion of Merit and other medals, although John Kerry and many others have proved there are ways to get these medals without earning them. Most of this acclaim comes out of his service at the Battle of 73 Easting (1991), where in 23 minutes, McMaster’s nine M1A1 Abrams tanks and 12 Bradley Fighting Vehicles destroyed 30 Iraqi tanks and 14 armored vehicles. McMaster has been given credit for quick thinking and aggressive action, but his unit faced off against obsolete Iraqi T-55 and T-72 tanks operated by troops with inferior training. His unit was part of a larger operation that experienced similar success, ultimately destroying 85 tanks, 40 personnel carriers, and over 30 other vehicles. As George Dvorsky observes: “the [Republican Guard] didn’t have a chance.”
As the author of the 1997 book, Dereliction of Duty: Lyndon Johnson, Robert McNamara, The Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Lies that Led to Vietnam, McMaster enjoys a reputation as something of a maverick, a fact which perhaps found favor in the unorthodox Trump administration. The book has been described as “the seminal work on military’s responsibility during Vietnam to confront their civilian bosses when strategy was not working.”
But McMaster’s reputation rests largely on the counterinsurgency (COIN) strategy applied at Tal Afar. It was later hailed by President George W. Bush, who said it, “gives me confidence in our strategy because in this city we see the outlines of the Iraq that we and the Iraqi people have been fighting for…” For once, the media agreed with Bush, published glowing reports on McMaster’s feats. Mother Jones and the Washington Post called him the “Hero of Tal Afar.” The left-leaning Slate.com calls him “the Army’s smartest officer.”
Now leftists are coming out of the woodwork to defend McMaster against his conservative critics. Newsweek accuses the “alt-right” of attempting to smear McMaster, while genuine slime merchants like Media Matters for America are smearing his critics.
He is even being defended by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the propaganda arm of the Palestinian terrorist group HAMAS.
Okay, wait a minute.
When reflexively anti-American, anti-military outlets like Mother Jones, Slate and the Washington Post offer fawning praise for a Republican military commander, the reasons underlying those plaudits deserve further investigation. When anti-American, anti-military, George Soros-funded, extreme leftist smear operations like Media Matters go to war to defend a Trump political appointee, it casts a shadow on everything about the man. When the anti-American, terrorism-supporting, Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated CAIR defends an American general, the alarm bells drown out all other sound. And officers who have witnessed his “leadership” in the unforgiving crucible of combat are now sounding the alarm.
There is much more. Read the rest here.

Has McDhimmi actually read the Koran, the Sira, the hadiths, even one manual of Sharia law? Has McDhimmi read one history of the conquests of Islam? Has he read about how the Ottoman Empire treated its subjects… the genocides, the discriminatory application of law?
In short, has McDhimmi any real book learning about Islam, besides HEARSAY OPINIONS he has heard or WHITEWASHING COMMENTS from Saudi and other Middle Eastern propaganda agents?
Is McDhimmi trained in Islam merely by HEARSAY.
Only someone with IN-DEPTH, SCHOLARLY UNDERSTANDING OF ISLAM should make policy about Islam.
From all his comments, it is obvious that McDhimmi’s ‘knowledge’ of Islam is not knowledge of Islam at all, but consists merely of things he has heard in conversations.

I also wonder if POTUS has done any research on the subject of Islam himself or is he just going on what he is being told/advised. How can he ask intelligent questions or challenge opinions? More importantly, how can he craft policy on hearsay?

Trump knows that Islam is a religion of war, as did Obama. It seems that Trump is adopting the Obama strategy toward Islamic terrorism. He is an apprentice of General Petraeus. That tells you everything. His champion in the Senate has been John McCain. That tells you the rest.
From the article, the head of Special Operations who had to rescue McMaster from his own hubris:
“Mine was one of three units sent to rescue McMaster from Tal Afar. McMaster replaced most of the operations people upon assuming command with his admirers — most of whom had limited combat experience at best. The majority never had a troop command, even in peacetime. As an apprentice of David Petraeus, McMaster was recommended to command the 3rd ACR not because of his ability/experience to command a large armored formation but simply so he could get his ticket punched on the way to flag rank.
The strategy called for assault, clear and hold, but McMaster simply ordered the squadron to advance without securing positions taken. This allowed insurgents to come in behind his assault force and it was soon surrounded. It came to be known among the troops as “Little Stalingrad” because of McMaster’s arrogance and disregard of advice from COIN experts. McMaster was thoroughly briefed that Tal Afar was an insurgent stronghold but ignored this intelligence and attempted to take the city by coup de main (surprise attack) using a blitzkrieg strategy like Von Paulus used in the Battle of Stalingrad.
Use of armor in urban warfare is fraught with danger if not carefully coordinated with infantry and combat support. The insurgent force, commanded by former Iraqi officers, allowed McMaster’s column to enter the city, then sprung the trap. As with Von Paulus, McMaster soon found his tanks and tracks hopelessly bogged down in the streets and narrow alleys of Tal Afar.
McMaster attempted to paint a rosy picture of the assault but it soon became apparent to others his unit was in trouble. McMaster estimated the assault would take one-and-a-half days to complete, but by that time the 2nd Squadron was trapped. The official record claims that they halted the assault to allow civilians to evacuate. The truth is that they had become surrounded and couldn’t move.
My SF unit, just off another operation, was ordered to re-deploy and fight our way in to open a supply route into the city to replenish ammo and supplies and Medevac the wounded. Earlier attempts to drop supplies by helicopter met intense fire and risked supplies falling into enemy hands. It took us three days to battle our way to them. I lost 40 men KIA [killed in action] in one day and a total of 50 lost from my unit alone during the pause, with many more wounded.
The operation which was supposed to last 2 days, turned into an 18-day battle, with the 3rd ACR being decimated. Many soldiers died later in field hospitals overloaded with wounded. Many civilians were not evacuated until after the forces engaged, and they too suffered many dead and wounded.
This fiasco was covered up by McMaster’s good friend, mentor and fellow West Pointer, David Petraeus, who worried that revealing the depth of McMaster’s mistakes would reflect badly on him as well.
McMaster is a political officer who took credit for the hard work and sacrifice of others. He advanced his own career and burnished his myth with the help of David Petraeus and John McCain. A deeper research into Army records including casualties and vehicle losses will paint an accurate picture of the debacle, not mythical accounts.
The truth about Tal Afar is that a major cover up has allowed an unqualified officer to occupy one of the most critical positions in our national security apparatus.”
Jack Diamond says
McMaster’s master David Patraeus in 2016, on why we mustn’t offend Muslims:
“(I’ve) grown increasingly concerned about inflammatory political discourse that has become far too common both at home and abroad against Muslims and Islam, including proposals from various quarters for blanket discrimination against people on the basis of their religion.”
“the ramifications of such rhetoric could be very harmful — and lasting” and will “compound the already grave terrorist danger to our citizens.”
“those who flirt with hate speech against Muslims should realize they are playing directly into the hands of al-Qaeda and the Islamic State. The terrorists’ explicit hope has been to try to provoke a clash of civilizations — telling Muslims that the United States is at war with them and their religion. When Western politicians propose blanket discrimination against Islam, they bolster the terrorists’ propaganda.”
“Inescapably, clearing territory of entrenched terrorist networks and then holding it takes boots on the ground. The question is — whether in Yemen, Libya, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Nigeria or Mali — do the bulk of those boots need to be our own or those of local Muslim partners?
I fear that those who demonize and denigrate Islam make it more likely that it will be our own men and women who ultimately have to shoulder more of this fight — at greater cost in dollars and lives….
But it is precisely because the danger of Islamist extremism is so great that politicians here and abroad who toy with anti-Muslim bigotry must consider the effects of their rhetoric. Demonizing a religious faith and its adherents not only runs contrary to our most cherished and fundamental values as a country; it is also corrosive to our vital national security interests and, ultimately, to the United States’ success in this war.”
https://www.jihadwatch.org/2016/05/petraeus-calls-for-self-censorship-to-avoid-offending-muslims
Tiny minority of extremists. Vast majority of good Muslims who share our values, UNLESS we insult them and thereby force them to join up with extremists. The poor dears feelings are so easily bruised when we note something Islamic about jihad or actually read their texts or learn about the example of Muhammad or criticize their murderous, tyrannical creed or find anything incompatible with and hostile to free societies.
And much better for military strategy to ignore the teachings of Islam that permeate Muslim society that our elites consider best ignored (that obligate all Muslims to look upon us as “infidels” with hate and enmity) and ignore doctrines that guide jihadis in particular, rather than upset the ummah upon whom we have decided to depend on to eliminate their “rascals” and return dar al-Islam to peaceful co-existence (with the appropriate bribes).

My years in Uniform and war service were the best years of my life. I knew many inspirational patriotic leaders whom I’d follow to the end of the Earth. Unfortunately, our military is rife with McMasters and Patreus-types. In my view, at least half the Colonels (O-6) and above were political ass-kissers and fools. That’s the way the military meritocracy promotion system works. It’s not just war fighters with “merit” who rise in rank. While many ass-kickers get promoted, many ass-kissers get promoted too.
No one gets a third and fourth star without personal approval of the POTUS. And since we all serve at the pleasure of the President, he can dismiss any Officer at will. Obama fired about 200 Flag Officers, and replaced them with like-minded sycophant yes men.
From my point of view, we have just two choices:
1. We can continue sacrificing American Patriots, spending Trillions of dollars we don’t have indefinitely under our current strategy until the sword jihad, womb jihad, and hijrah destroys us within 75 years — while we micro focus on a fictional TMOE enemy, based on the fundamental Big Lie that Islam is a benevolent religion of peace compatible with and benign to Western Civilization.
or
2. We can defeat our enemy, Islam, using a nearly identical strategy to that which our grandfathers demonstrated for us in WWII, using random Nuclear Strategic Area Bombing, with zero risk to Allied life. Missiles, not jets. We can collapse Islam globally, eliminating the threat forever, in under 3 months, for about $6 Billion.
Words won’t win this war. Muslims, particularly Western Muslims and hijrah Muslims, know our criticisms of Islam, but they don’t care. They already know what Islam is, and they’re committed to it. Only a negligible few apostatize.
We also don’t have the money, military, time, or the Will to use our own boots to occupy and secure the ground of 57 OIC (forced Apostate) states for any amount of time, especially indefinitely. Instead, we must terrorize Dar al-Islam back with incremental random nuclear kinetic force (1 strike every 72 hours) until each sovereignty surrenders to our terms. Ideally, we’d allow Muslim Apostate governments, military, and police to remain in place, forcing them to criminalize Islam and force Apostasy on their populations. We force them to work for us. They either cooperate, or suffer more kinetic force.
Most Muslim sovereignties will surrender without our force. We’ll broadcast 4K video of the blast and Battle Damage from the first 5 to 10 strikes. Most will then raise the white flag, because the threat of being glassed scares the devil out of people. That’s the whole point.
For the minority of Muslim sovereignties who resist and wish to be martyred for Allah, we’ll oblige them. Then we’ll annex their territories, redraw the boundaries, replace their governments, and use their resources for ourselves. Watching this happen will quickly break the remaining sovereignties’ Will to Fight.
This War is Kaffirs vs Ummah; a zero-sum conflict with just one winner. The first side losing its Will to Fight loses the war. Our enemy is patient, and as has been committed to victory for 1400 years. The World will soon be 100% Islamic, or 0% Islamic. Right now we’re losing badly, and the Ummah knows it. We’d better change our strategy, and fast, before the Ummah extinguishes Liberty’s Light forever.
If we want our children and grandchildren to be free, we have only choice — one strategy that will succeed. I haven’t heard an alternative strategy yet that will work.
If we don’t destroy Islam, Western Civilization will perish.
The solution is simple, safe, and inexpensive. All we need is the Will to fight and win.
Gordon Miller says
Great idea, buy we simply don’t have senior staff that would consider your strategy; neither would the President.
You know, I bet if Trump used nuclear weapons in the way you describe, he would probably be impeached, sad to say.
Incidently, there’s something close to a coup d’etat going on right now and I can’t think what Trump can do about it.
Daniel Triplett says
If Harry Truman do it, so can Donald Trump.
The POTUS has this authority on his own. He requires no one’s consent. It doesn’t matter if he gets impeached (he wouldn’t). If Donald Trump erases Islam from Earth, he’d be recorded in history as one of the top five US Presidents ever — his face on Mt. Rushmore perhaps. I think he’d take a chance on a 2020 defeat if he could save the World now.
He’s the only one of the 18 Presidential candidates who even has the balls to do something like this. We either do this or we perish. It’s really that simple. If someone would explain this to him, such as me, or at least get the whole strategy in front of his eyes, he would certainly consider it. He obviously respects advice from military officer combat vets, which I am. I have a 30-page essay that explains this strategy in more detail, which is a summary of the multi-hundred page book I’m trying to write.
Americans are different now than in the early 1940s, but they can still be persuaded to fight if the right leader convinces them we must. Every time I poll test this strategy on Twitter, it has widespread 80 – 95% support. Americans know our push back against Islam isn’t working. Americans are winners. They demand victory. They’re on board with this strategy here, because any reasonable person knows it’s our only option. The President is reasonable too, so there’s no reason he wouldn’t come to the same conclusion.
A well crafted Oval Office address, or an address to Congress by our President would get the People’s buy-in, just as it worked for Truman.

With regard to the first Gulf War, the hype over General Schwarzkopf’s supposedly brilliant plan to defeat the Iraqi Army was overdone. The fact is that the general’s forces executed a pincer movement. This is a standard military tactic that has been around for centuries. During WWII, the U.S., British, and Canadian forces tried to execute one at Falaise Gap. It was not completely successful as many German forces were able to escape. However, a number of Germans were killed when the gap was finally closed.
Once the army entered Germany, a more successful pincer movement was used to cut off the area in Germany where a lot of heavy industry was located from the rest of Germany. This area was known as the Ruhr.
Anyone who studies military history is fully aware of this tactic except, apparently, McMaster.
Just a note: Having read some military history, I was not surprised by Schwarzkopf’s strategy; and had I been able to give my two cents, I would have recommended it.
stan lee says
His battlefield reputation does come out of a decisive armored battle which happened when our forces were involved in the “end-run” called “The Hail Mary move” by then Commander of Forces vs. Saddam’s forces, General Schwartzkopf. In “73 Easting”,then Col McMaster, commanding 3rd ACR, came out of the desert in a sandstorm and surprised dug-in Iraqi Armored which was deployed and dug in facing another direction, plus the Russian tanks they had were heavies with manually operated gun turrets. They couldn’t react quickly enough and the Iraqis became stationary targets for the fast moving and shooting M-1 Abrams heavy tanks. He was no “flash in the pan,” he was a good commander, but the U.S. force had better equipment, far better troops, better armored tactics, and speed of movement. Tough match-up for the “other guys.” At present, he is judged upon his politics and preferences, a far cry from shooting up enemy tanks. I suppose that’s why Gen. George Marshall chose Gen. Eisenhower, an “organization man” to command allied forces ETO in WW2. McMaster probably isn’t an organization soldier, out of headquarters, he is an opinionated field commander, so “its his way or the highway.”
Jack Diamond says
And he was a good commander at Tal Afar? How so? That was his baby, unlike 73 Easting where he was just part of a larger operation, all of which enjoyed a similar success against a very inferior Republican Guard force.

Since all of us armchair generals are at it, here is my riyal worth:
1. Most third world armies are not intended to fight another country’s army. They are intended to keep the populace from storming the palace with torches and pitchforks when the populace is sick of the tyrant.
2. The exception to #1 is when the tyrant thinks the other country is a lot weaker and he needs to look like a hero to deflect the populace from dethroning him due to his excesses.
3. Historically, most muslim armies did not fare well when going against a modern, professional, western army. The modern army relies on maneuver, coordination of arms, and firepower. The traditional muslim army tended to rely on the overwhelming mass assault.
4. In third world countries, loyalty to the regime, family connection, and outright bribery are the routes to advancement and longevity. Talent and training are far down the list of desired traits.
5. In third world despotic countries, independent thinking, originality, and recognition of factual truth are not rewarded. In fact, these would either derail a military career or get the person killed.
6. Based upon the above, it is one thing to defeat a horse hockey country like Iraq in a modern, set piece, battle of maneuver and firepower. It is another thing to pacify the country and a restive population that sees you as an infidel invader.
7. Despite all that I have listed above, even a little knowledge of how the middle east works would show that it is sheer folly to chase the populace down and engage in guerilla warfare. This is what they excel in.
