“It shows a lack of understanding of the president’s broader policy when it comes to protecting Americans at home and abroad from all acts of terrorism. Terrorism has manifested itself in many types of organizations.”
Yes, of course. Just consider that worldwide network of Amish terrorist groups.
What this is about is whether or not the U.S. is going to identify and study the terrorists’ motivating ideology. If it doesn’t, it will have failed to know the enemy, which is the first adage of how to pursue a war successfully.
The Trump administration has betrayed its promise.
“Tillerson: Gorka is ‘completely wrong’ on ‘radical Islam’ term,” by Julia Manchester, The Hill, August 27, 2017:
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Sunday former White House aide Sebastian Gorka was “completely wrong” to criticize the president’s Afghanistan speech because there was no mention of “radical Islam.”
“It shows a lack of understanding of the president’s broader policy when it comes to protecting Americans at home and abroad from all acts of terrorism,” Tillerson told Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday.”
“Terrorism has manifested itself in many types of organizations. The president has charged us to develop policies and tactics both diplomatically and militarily to attack terrorism in its many forms, wherever it exists in the world, and wherever it might present a threat to the homeland or Americans anywhere. This means that we need to develop techniques that are global in their nature.”…
John Hawk says
The Trump Administration may not be a full-blown swamp just yet, but it certainly has been a rather nasty bog.
gravenimage says
I think instead of Trump draining the swamp, it is starting to look as though the swamp is draining him…
Mark Swan says
Yes gravenimage, that swamp is highly toxic, if he has contracted the fever, we may see
a manifestation of this with his administration members talking out of their heads like Mr.
Tillerson continually does, and him allowing this or worse yet, his agreeing with this.
Shane says
General McMaster and his Muslim aide are behind this. It makes no sense to not identify the enemy as Islamic Jihadis, Muslim or Islamic terrorists. Muslims know that these guys are killing in the name of Allah, and that they justify their actions from verses in the Koran. This is cowardice in the face of the enemy!
Geezerbob says
Whether it is alt-right terrorism, anti-abortion terrorism, Islamist terrorism or whatever terrorism it is critical that the threat be explicitly identified in order that it may be efficiently rooted out and destroyed. No more word games, please!
PRCS says
Agree.
No more word games.
The issue is not “radical” Islam or “radical” Islamic terrorism.
It’s about written, Orthodox Islam. The whole enchilada, and it’s followers–who have a collective name and identity: Muslims.
“Islamics” don’t carry out violent jihad.
Muslims do.
dumbledoresarmy says

“Draining” is appropriate, dumbledoresarmy, IMO. The swamp is draining Mr. Trump of the will to combat the world-wide threat of islam, the reason so many of us voted for him.

Trump is not winning & maybe we all underestimated the strength of the opposition in the WHITE house that the DEMOCRATS left there !
The MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD & C.A,I.R are well entrenched as well as other ISLAMIC PRESSURE GROUPS !
I believe that RADICAL ISLAM is a term that should be mentioned in a statement that says that RADICAL ISLAM as we see it are those who follow the LIFE OF MOHAMMED texts to the letter like ISIS does !
The TEXTS do have these things but only a dangerous & wide spread minority follow these verses & texts to the letter !
The issue is that TRUMP is LISTENING to former OBAMA ADMINISTRATION members & in my view is being led away from” the :draining of the swamp ” that he did promise & everyone wants & expects !
He needs to call the teachings of this IDEOLOGY OUT & demand that PHRASES such as ISLAM is a RELIGION of PEACE & VIOLENCE has nothing to do with ISLAM STOP being used TOTALLY & state as STEPHEN HARPER DID that ISLAM has declared a JIHAD LOW LEVEL & MANY FACETED war on all DEMOCRACIES of the WEST with the help of the MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD & ORGANIZATIONS like C.A,I .R & SOROS FOUNDATIONS & other fronts that hide behind peculiar CLOAKS of deception to avoid notice as they continue to damage & undermine democracy at all POINTS in the Globe !!
As DOUGLAS MURRAY so eloquently stated – These people are serious & it is high time we are to !!!!

Ol’ dhimmi Rex appears to have a lot of contempt toward Israel. And I’m quite sure HE’S CLUELSS about that idea that the mohammudins surrounding Israel are in perpetual rage over the idea that Israel went from “dar al-harb” to “dar al-islam” BACK to “dar al-harb.”

D Austin says
“Yes, of course. Just consider that worldwide network of Amish terrorist groups.”
Only 150 years ago it was the American version of Islam – Mormons. There are at least 80 parallels between Mormon founder Joseph Smith and Muhammad. The US government sent Johnston’s Army into the Utah Territory to keep an eye on them and 2nd so-called prophet Brigham Young until the army was needed for the Civil War.
Wellington says
I don’t care if there are a thousand parallels, D Austin. Here’s some of the reasons why: 1) Mormon suicide bombers are kinda’ scarce; 2) There are some 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide as opposed to about 15 million Mormons; 3) Mormons threaten no one with death or bodily harm for criticizing or mocking their religion, for instance how many Mormons threatened dire harm because the “Book of Mormon” was played on Broadway and elsewhere? Imagine a “Book of Islam” and the reactions it would result in?; 4) Mormons are loyal Americans, dedicated to the Constitution as “the supreme law of the land.” Who of sense and knowledge could say this of Muslims except confused Muslims like Zuhdi Jasser (and ignorant dhimmis) who actually think you can reconcile Islam with the American Constitution——–and who wants to rely on such confused people?; 5) Mormons don’t soak in self-pity and announce they’re always worried about “backlash” against their fellow believers; 6) Mormons gave up polygamy more than a century ago, Muslims by contrast, indeed none of the major schools of Islamic theology I know of, have given up polygamy.
I could add more but I think this is enough for now, except to ask you, D Austin, what is your point? Right now it seems to me you have none, none at all, that you are asserting something without a point. But do set me aright by indicating a) what your point really is; and b) why it is important?
Your turn.
tim gallagher says
Well said Wellington. Of course, anyone drawing parallels between Mormons and Mohammedans is being ridiculous. I often think how alarming it is that there are 1.5 billion Muslims in the world. I mean when you consider the backward, barbaric garbage practised in Islam (paedophilia with young girls being married off, honour killings, stoning people to death, murdering homosexuals, attempting to murder and murdering non-Muslims and being praised for doing such evil, and on and on the list of criminal atrocities goes), it is staggering that so many people in the modern world could remain a part of such an evil ideology. Surely Islam is strictly for knuckle-dragging types. I realise many Muslims are trapped and can’t leave Islam or they would be killed. Also, Muslims breed at such high levels that they have reached 1.5 billion. How anyone who has the chance to leave this barbaric ideology chooses to stay in it staggers me. Just people who revel in evil I guess. It’s a shame the 4 or 5 billion non-Muslims in the world can’t get together and sort Islam out. Unfortunately, I guess it’ll never happen . All the comments you make above are irrefutable.
PRCS says
I’ll check back tomorrow for the awaited response.

Joseph Smith had many similarities with Mohammed, many of which may have been intentional. However, Joseph Smith’s Nauvoo Legion (a very large military force) was a component of the Illinois State Militia. After Joseph Smith was arrested to be tried for treason, the Nauvoo Legion was disbanded and Morons ceased being a military threat.
Mohammed successfully founded his own state of Medina (medina means place of governance). This grew into the Arab empire.

2) develop techniques that are GLOBAL in their nature
There it is … 1) they avoid the expression ‘ISLAMIC TERRORISM’ because it is DIPLOMACY
2) they develop ways to LIE ABOUT ISLAMIC TERRORISM as a ‘tactic’.

Diplomacy is important in combating the Islamic monster no doubt. But in 1983 Reagan did not seem to care too much about diplomacy when he called Russia the evil empire. What would Muslims do world wide if we declared jihad, death for apostasy and blasphemy ‘evil’ and said that these doctrines have been responsible for millions of deaths over the centuries? What if we put those doctrines on the table and said they are unacceptable in a modern interdependent world? We could build a strong international consensus supporting the eradication of these tribal customs. But it would take leadership and courage. I’m not sure if Tillerson has what it takes.

Nothing less than that is what is needed. And only the USA is big enough and strong enough to set that lead.
All I can say to American jihadwatchers is this: ALL of you join ACT for America if you haven’t already, and recruit like mad, and then lobby, lobby, lobby, at every level – local, state, federal. You need to find and nurture and encourage and vote for the up-and-coming young politicians – there are army veterans, young men, now entering politics; there is Allen West, who needs to be backed and supported and encouraged to prepare to throw his hat back into the ring – who may stand up and say what the current lot won’t.
And you need to find, encourage, even *educate and create* businesspeople – companies – that resist the temptation to chase after petrodollars or the Muslim market and instead focus elsewhere, on fellow Infidels. Trump could give a lead by getting OUT of Indonesia and Turkey and investing somewhere else – like India.

If they admit that ISLAMIC TERRORISM is the enemy, they will have to develop a strategy to fight Islamic terrorism through psychological warfare and COUNTER-propaganda or COUNTERJIHAD PROPAGANDA.
If they do COUNTERJIHAD PROPAGANDA, the Muslims will accuse them of verbally FIGHTING ISLAM. Then, the Muslims will generally fight the United States.
Western spy agencies must URGENTLY begin to fight the JIHAD IDEOLOGY, because it is the enemy. Without undermining and invalidating the JIHAD IDEOLOGY, Western governments cannot end jihad.
It’s time to create a curriculum for the ABSOLUTE DEPROGRAMMING of Muslims right out of Islam.
Guy Forester says
As per the muslim brotherhood, it appears that we have been under attack by the religion we dare not name for decades. Look at what Steven Emerson, Peter Lance, and a host of others have dug up over the past 3 or more decades. Actually, you can go back to 1800 or so and look at our relationship with the Islamic world.
The religion that we dare not name is really at war with us, and has been for centuries. The problem is, the West got sidetracked and spent too much time fighting over who was King of the Hill. Add to that the blindness that OPEC oil money seems to buy, and you have a recipe for disaster.
The west is guilty of refusing to name the correct conflict and the true aggressors. There is no quick fix for this. BTW, deprogramming has been a failure to date. There are many that would leave islam if they could. There is a way to reach these people. The first stop along the way to stop jihad is to stop supporting and protecting Islamic states.
dumbledoresarmy says
“It’s time to create a curriculum for the ABSOLUTE DEPROGRAMMING of Muslims right out of Islam.”
I’d settle, right now, for the restraining of evil, which is – according to St Paul – the job of governments.
And that means 1/ a BAN on all further Mohammedan immigration, because allowing Muslims to immigrate places ALL other citizens at mortal risk of harm
2/ kicking out all non-citizen Muslims
3/ interning ‘citizen’ Muslims currently on the jihad-terror ‘watch list’ …pending a change in the law to permit them to be stripped of citizenship and deported/ exiled
4/ rescinding of ALL extraordinary accommodations to Islam, notably, ‘prayer rooms’ in otherwise public institutions, ‘sharia finance’ and ‘halal certification’ and
5/ a BAN on the mohammedan female slave-mask (both niqab and burqa) and a BAN on the wearing of the female slave-rag in *any* form in state-run educational institutions. Mohammedan gang uniform is NO different from someone’s parading about the place in a Swastika armband or KKK hood-and-robe, or waving a hammer-and-sickle and Mao’s little red book. Indeed, it’s WORSE, because it represents the wearer’s open allegiance to a hostile Organisation that has done far more harm to humanity, over time and space, than either the Klan or even the Third Reich (itself a cheap rip-off of Islam) managed to do, and is right up in the mass-murder league with communism, outdoing the death tolls achieved by Pol Pot, Chairman Mao and Stalin.
The harsh fact is, the quickest way to cut down on the mass-murder Muslim jihad sprees we’ve seen in Paris, Nice, Barcelona, San Bernardino, Orlando, Brussells, Westminster, London Bridge, and Manchester, and the rest… I have not forgotten the ‘third world’ targets of Jihad, in places like Central Africa, northern Nigeria, and the Philippines, or the ongoing murders of Buddhist Infidels in southern Thailand … is 1/ kick OUT the Muslims from dar al Harb and 2/ KEEP them OUT.
The deprogramming you propose can then be done at a safer distance, by the likes of Fr Zakaria Botros, over the airwaves.

By all means, let’s hear of them. All of them.
There aren’t that many, really.
A handful of ideologies — or versions of them — tend to cover nearly all current terrorist projects.

With a short, sharp, covering note, to the effect that – “Stop faffing around, Mr Tillerson. The Ummah as a whole is waging war upon the entire Infidel world, targeting the USA in particular because the USA is vital for the self-defence of Dar al Harb.”
And then quote those classic paragraphs by John Quincy Adams, on the subject of Islam, and its perpetual warfare upon the world.
dumbledoresarmy says
Perhaps ACT for America can start a project to make sure that every single Congressman and woman, and every Senator, state and federal, is sent – by their constituents – a copy of John Quincy Adam’s lucid, deadly, accurate, no-holds-barred analysis of Islam, and Jihad.

I urge Mr. Spencer and his readers not to rush to judgment regarding Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s cautionary instincts. It may be that avoidance of inflammatory language is a precondition for our assembling an American-led coalition of moderate Arab partners to oppose radical Islamism. This is a long game.
For the same reason I urge Mr. Spencer and Ms. Geller always to capitalize the Koran; and if they refer to the Holy Scriptures, then in an even-handed way refer to the Holy Koran. Respect is important in the Arab world. It is needlessly insulting to potential allies to write of “the koran” in lower case.
One of my mentors — a brilliant Jewish Professor of Psychiatry at an Ivy League university who is revered for her wisdom and humanity — inserts the phrase “Inshallah” into her lectures at random points, to honor diversity and acknowledge the importance of intersectionality.
