More of the global outbreak of mental illness?
In any case, this would be easier to take seriously were it not for the fact that officials so often ascribe what are obviously jihad attacks to mental illness. This man planned his attack carefully over a long period of time. If he was mentally ill, he was high-functioning.
“US Officials: No evidence Las Vegas shooter tied to militant group,” Reuters, October 2, 2017:
WASHINGTON, Oct 2 (Reuters) – Two senior US officials said on Monday that there was no evidence that the shooter who killed at least 50 people in Las Vegas was tied to any international militant group.
Islamic State issued a statement through its news agency Amaq claiming responsibility for the shooting, saying that the attacker had converted to Islam a few months ago.
But one of the two US officials discounted Islamic State’s claim of responsibility and said there was reason to believe that the shooter, whom police identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, had a history of psychological problems.
BlueRaven says
So they do not discount the claim he was a new Muslim convert.
DrSique says
IMHO, mental health issues could NOT possibly discount the possible conversion to Islam. For a “religion of peace”, the Islamic ideology sure does seem to attract a lot of psycho killers. Not only are the devout, and the recently converted, willing to take the lives of innocents, they obviously take great pleasure in the suffering of others. Sure makes a great case that Mohammed was a false prophet and that Allah may very well be “the accuser.”
BlueRaven says
Each Muslim has psychological Issues with non-Muslims. Did they ever figure that?
KCinTX says
Great point, Blue Raven
TOm Steuer says
Both very well could be true.
Geraje says
One would think a claim of responsibility by a major terrorist organization would be considered important evidence as to the motivation of the shooter. Right?
Unless these officials have some evidence of their own to contradict the ISIS claim outright, the claim of responsibility is ample evidence in itself.
Ted Tyler says
Geraje, I suspect that ISIS would claim responsibility whether they had anything to do with it or not. They would want to send the following message to young, devout radical Muslims:
“Do you see now the damage that can be so easily inflicted on the American dogs? Do not, my brothers, allow yourselves to be outdone by a 64 year old man.”
Krusader General says
“history of psychological problems”- sounds like a perfect candidate for conversion to islam
JoAnn Leichliter says
So, who are these “two high ranking US officials”? We need to get them on the Trump/Russia thing right away, because they figured this thing out in almost no time flat.
BlueRaven says
It is time to forbid Islam in the West or test each and every new Muslim convert their psychological well being. They are all appear to be psychologically drained. So they go on killing innocent bystanders. The only statement that comes out of FBI is he/she had a psychological problem.
I am very surprised that he was allowed to have the gun license if he was known to have psychological problems.
gravenimage says
Unless someone has been convicted of a crime or actually committed to an asylum, it seldom comes up.

Debi Brand says
Indeed. So too, deep conviction at his core, with respect to the rightness of his actions, thus, that then harnessing, governing, transmitting precision into his spotlighted actions.
Joe says
We now have THREE fairly big pieces of evidence that this is a jihad attack:
1. Islamic State called for an attack on this strip in May.
2. Islamic State claims that he is a Muslim and made the attack in the name of Islam.
3. The authorities are pointing out that he has a history of psychological problems or mental illness.
mortimer says
Mohammed was insane. Muslims imitate Mohammed’s insanity. Jihad appears insane to an outsider.

Here is a possible key to this loser – “Paddock, W Was Possibly Going Through a Divorce, Had Recently Been Gambling & Sued a Las Vegas Strip Casino in 2012”
gravenimage says
Of course, lots of people go through divorces, and while it is not as common, having a suit against a casino is hardly unprecedented.
How many people in this position then go out and slaughter over fifty people?
PRCS says
Slip/fall lawsuit.
Settled in arbitration.
Don’t know the specifics.
Guy Forester says
The usual response has been to rob the casino, shoot up the casino, shoot up the court, or find a way to off the offending spouse. While it is not impossible that the above two did push him over the edges, they are not mutually exclusive to him becoming muslim. In fact, some life crises push people into an extreme form of religion as well as push them out.
While I am at it, people with personality disorders can be very dangerous to others (psychopath or sociopath) yet not be truly psychotic. Those with personality disorders can be very organized and can manage many aspects of their life quite well. They just happen to have no regard for the welfare or feelings of others.
Joe says
It doesn’t look like an act of despondency. The attack was very well planned. From the sound of the gun fire, it sounds like a 50 cal machine gun (I’m not formally trained on that sort of thing). If it was, where would he get a gun like that? Someone who is down on the world, isn’t going to get into arms smuggling to come up with that type of gun.
Jack Holan says
By making these quick claims as Obama did with Major Nidal the Government is disarming, taking away the sharpness of the public. Next they’ll play the no guns theme.
Maybe if they’d start following Israel’s example in this area they’ll stop looking stupid! Are all these converts to Islam nuts? Why is mental illness in Islam so prevalent by what appears to be the government. They’re creating the insane image in the public’s vision not the majority of terrorist incidents here and abroad in the name of Islam.
BlueRaven says
This loser was going to crises. He wanted to take the world down with him. Where did he get the GUNS? If that leads to an ISIS distributor, that is the sure dot to connect. I never believe ISIS BS at its face value.
BlueRaven says
Correction “This loser was going through crises”

Out of the country, eh?
Yes, I find this quite curious, as well.
According to the FBI in this shaker window of time, they have already determined Ed the following:
‘She had nothing whatsoever to do with’ the incident, and they are telling us with absolute certainty that Paddock had no connection whatsoever to any terrorist entities.
Hmmm…
Quite curious indeed.

Feigning control after the deed where we have none is the biggest issue now. We can only help people who’ve been injured and help the grieving. I believe JW readers understand the across the board problems America faces. What were the steps missed or taken that allowed this?
b.a. freeman says
“What were the steps missed or taken that allowed this?” that’s easy: if U ignore the cause of a problem, the problem will only get worse. the fools and traitors in the federal government have been ignoring islam as a cause of terror attacks, so they have done nothing to stop the attackers, who are getting bolder by the day and successfully mounting horrid, monstrous mass murder attacks. if they only took a look at islam, they would instantly know the answer, but they are either fools who, like me, were not educated to fear the evil of islam, or traitors who know that it is vile, and *want* pious muslims to attack innocents to destabilize society so that they can seize control of the government.
things do not look good for civilization; the dark ages this time will be far worse than when islam toppled the eastern roman empire.
Voytek Gagalka says
“No evidence.” Will there be EVER any evidence they would admit as valid evidence, evidence which would utterly destroy their narrative and the world-view? It is madness. And hard to say which madness is greater and more devastating: “mad-man” mischief or their boring “lack of evidence” mantra.

Now the typical brainless Hollyweird actors pop up already calling for gun control again. No matter who it was, then we should also ban trucks, cars, knifes, etc. and also for these actors and all politicians. We should all live naked in a paradise.
Imo it was either another staged attack to call for gun control or it was a Muslims attack. Anything else doesn’t make sense.
TL says
Why can’t it be both? And why couldn’t it be also an event to punish Trumptards–people who were stupid enough to believe that DJT was good for anything more than keeping Hillary out of the WH?

billybob says
As I write, I am watching the latest news conference from the officials in Las Vegas. A representative of the FBI just spoke, stating emphatically “There is NO evidence of any connection with international terrorism”. He repeated that same phase and that was all he had to say. However, what we are all waiting to know is the motive, and he didn’t address that. Particularly, was he a recent convert to Islam? Seems to me his answer was deliberate misdirection. By now, they should know if any Islamic books or literature was found in his house, yet they make no mention. Later, when questioned by the press, the sheriff stated he couldn’t speculate on motive, saying he couldn’t speculate on the motives of a crazy person. If I was there, I would ask if a quaran was found either on the scene or in his house.
Chand says
Billybob says: “If I was there, I would ask if a quaran was found either on the scene or in his house.”
Sure. And the authorities would definitely not try to hide that fact. It would be better for them to declare this as an act of Islamic terrorism and get on with the case right instead of being in the dark themselves.
So I don’t think that there is any evidence that he was Muslim/converted Muslim or that he kept a Koran in the house (although the Koran isn’t banned anywhere yet).
I think it is equally frustrating for the authorities to be in the dark about Paddock’s motives as the general public.
My personal guess is that he was a psychopath who wanted to get high on mass murder before leaving this planet as he was unhappy and miserable, even with all his wealth and racy lifestyle.

It truly pisses me off how the media and authorities do all they can to keep Islam or Muslims out of the news whenever these attacks happen. His girlfriend — who is currently out of the country, and they’re not saying where — is an Australian citizen but she is of Indonesian descent, and possibly originally from Indonesia. Indonesia is the world’s largest Muslim nation.

How did he bring an arsenal of weapons into a casino which presumably has tight security against being robbed?
Are their security cameras with pictures of him, and is he with anyone?
How did he construct two shooting platforms in his rooms, and store his 10 guns and ammo there, over a few days, without room service or anyone else noticing?
How did he pay for the rooms (not cheap). How did he pay for the guns (not cheap).
Did he deliberately book the rooms ahead of time knowing of the concert? How long ago was this planned?
Who were the women who tried to warn the concert goers? How long beforehand did she know about it? Did she take her info to the police?
Was there inside help from the casino staff?
Lots of questions — but at least we know immediately that there was no motive other than mental illness, and no international connection (sarc/off)

Aren’t these US officials the same ones who are prohibited from mentioning or following any reference to Islam when investigating individuals? The Obama Administration had all of that language scrubbed out.
I’d like to know more about the girlfriend and whether she’s a Muslim. Some people commenters think she’s from Indonesian. Others think she might be from Malaysia. I won’t believe her if she claims she didn’t know her boyfriend was going to shoot the place up, because she was apparently escorted out of the concert after telling some members of the audience “You’re going to die tonight.” Whether that was a last-moment prick of conscience or simple taunting (maybe a mixture of both), she knew what her man was planning.
gravenimage says
I have read that Marilou Danley was out of the country at the time of the shooting, not attending the concert at the casino.
Do you have contradictory information?
A Lee says
I was referring to the woman who told concertgoers, “You’re all going to die tonight.”
http://www.syracuse.com/us-news/index.ssf/2017/10/las_vegas_shooting_die_tonight_woman.html
So this woman wasn’t Danley? The witness thought the woman was Hispanic, but eyewitnesses have often been mistaken about race.
Now I don’t know if the “Hispanic” woman was involved or if she was just a random nut case.
gravenimage says
Yes–I don’t know much about this aspect of the case yet.
A Lee says
Another thought is that the woman at the concert was a hotel employee who suspected something? If she was a housekeeper or another low-level staff member, and reported the suspicious activities to her employers, they probably would have laughed at her, or threatened to fire her, and told her to be quiet and get back to work. This is purely speculation, of course.

I suppose all good Americans are out buying more guns today, to demonstrate their firm belief in whatever it is that gun ownership demonstrates. Meanwhile, the number of Americans killed by Americans climbs a little bit closer to the number of Muslims killed by Americans. Only half a million or so to go.

What a lot of claptrap.
In “rod’s” world, the Americans are evil and murderous Jihadists are the poor victims. *Ugh*.
Wellington says
Seconded, gravenimage. Interesting and instructive that those who regularly trash or don’t understand the 2nd Amendment (hint: it’s not there to protect hunting rights first and foremost but to protect citizens from a too intrusive government) invariably don’t grasp the significance of the 1st Amendment either. These two Amendments to the greatest constitution ever devised by man are tied at the metaphorical hip. If one misses this, one misses a lot. I know you don’t but so many do.
gravenimage says
Very true, Wellington. But I don’t think “rod’s” problem is simple ignorance–but something a *lot* darker.
Wellington says
Agreed, gravenimage. Rod’s “problem” is one of two possibilities: 1) Islam; or 2) Leftism.
Sometimes, you know, it’s difficult to distinguish between these two possibilities, actually better named culprits, because they too are tied at a metaphorical hip, a malevolent one instead of the sapient one I previously mentioned.
rod says
“2nd Amendment (hint: it’s not there to protect hunting rights first and foremost but to protect citizens from a too intrusive government)”
But sadly, it’s not there to protect the innocent citizens of Las Vegas. Or Orlando. Or wherever a gun crazy lover of the 2nd Amendment decides to strike next. Maybe in your town. But I can be quite sure it won’t be in mine. Could that be “Rod’s problem”?
Wellington says
Constitutional rights don’t come without risks, rod. It would be naive to think they would or should.
rod says
Thanks Wellington. i take it that Mr Paddock was exercising his “Constitutional right”. And that you’re happy with such a “risk”.
You might like to think about this – In my backwater we don’t have a 2nd Amendment; we don’t have to run such “risks”; Mr Paddock would not have, and never will have such “Constitutional rights”; we don’t have more guns than people; and nobody, nobody, ever kills dozen of his fellow citizens for fun.
Of course we are a bit primitive. We haven’t reached the high level of civilisation that we can see in the USA, We’re so stupid that we don’t even realise how backward we are.
Wellington says
Your screed, rod, is rooted in ignorance, puerile sentiments and just plain stupidity.
Try to grasp this if you will: What made America great above all other reasons is freedom. This includes the freedom to own guns. And, btw, look at countries like France where gun control is extreme but bad guys still can get guns easily while good guys can’t. Hey, we outlawed lots of kinds of drugs. Gee, don’t see them anywhere, now do we? And what about knife control? Rental van control?
Gettin’ my drift? BTW, I am an American and have stated it many times. Where are you from, rod? Of are you too cowardly to say?
rod says
Getting your drift, Wellington? Well, actually no, I’m not. Freedom? Wow! Can you believe that other people know about freedom? Perhaps not. Including freedom from mindless violence and freedom from the fear it brings with it. You didn’t invent freedom. You don’t have a monopoly. And BTW your version, (apparently one dependent on firearms), doesn’t look very appealing. In fact it looks disgusting. Where am I from? If it helps to think I’m a coward, feel free.
gravenimage says
Note that rod is not just going on about the Second Amendment–something on which people of good will can have disagreements.
He is also claiming that Americans kill large numbers of Muslims–hence implying that we deserve to be mass slaughtered by Muslims–and, in fact, that he hopes millions more of us will be.
I find that the ugliest and most false part of his repulsive original post.
Wellington says
Noted, gravenimage. Rather like the so-called Palestinians who will not let Israel live in peace and so when Israel retaliates against Muslim barbarians (excuse the redundancy), then it’s Israel’s fault.
America wouldn’t go after a single Muslim just because they’re Muslim if Mohammedans just let things be. But they don’t. It is not their wont. Their religion instructs them to conquer the world and when non-Muslims fight back, as America has, as has Israel, then it’s pity-party time for Muzzies. Same old same old. As evidenced by the tiresome “rod.”
gravenimage says
True, Wellington.
