“Al Shabaab, which has been waging a war for years to topple the Horn of Africa country’s western-backed government, seeks to bring in rule based on its strict interpretation of sharia law.”
In reality, there is no version of Sharia that doesn’t mandate death for adultery. Many Muslim countries don’t implement Sharia in its fullness, but they don’t have some different, benign interpretation of Islamic law. The advocates of stoning are universally described as “extremists,” but they can and do claim that they are simply implementing Islamic law. The caliph Umar, one of Muhammad’s closest companions, maintained that the punishment of stoning for adultery (this story doesn’t specify the method of punishment, but the outcome of the punishment is the same in any case) was originally in the Qur’an:
‘Umar said, “I am afraid that after a long time has passed, people may say, “We do not find the Verses of the Rajam (stoning to death) in the Holy Book,” and consequently they may go astray by leaving an obligation that Allah has revealed. Lo! I confirm that the penalty of Rajam be inflicted on him who commits illegal sexual intercourse, if he is already married and the crime is proved by witnesses or pregnancy or confession.” Sufyan added, “I have memorized this narration in this way.” ‘Umar added, “Surely Allah’s Apostle carried out the penalty of Rajam, and so did we after him.” (Bukhari, vol. 8, bk. 82, no. 816)
“Allah’s Apostle” is, of course, Muhammad, who did indeed carry out stonings. Here is the hadith in which he challenges the rabbis about stoning, and in which there is amidst the barbarism and brutality a final act of love and compassion:
The Jews came to Allah’s Apostle and told him that a man and a woman from amongst them had committed illegal sexual intercourse. Allah’s Apostle said to them, “What do you find in the Torah (old Testament) about the legal punishment of Ar-Rajm (stoning)?” They replied, (But) we announce their crime and lash them.” Abdullah bin Salam said, “You are telling a lie; Torah contains the order of Rajm.” They brought and opened the Torah and one of them solaced his hand on the Verse of Rajm and read the verses preceding and following it. Abdullah bin Salam said to him, “Lift your hand.” When he lifted his hand, the Verse of Rajm was written there. They said, “Muhammad has told the truth; the Torah has the Verse of Rajm. The Prophet then gave the order that both of them should be stoned to death. (‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar said, “I saw the man leaning over the woman to shelter her from the stones.” (Bukhari, vol. 4, bk. 56, no. 829)
Even the monkeys practiced stoning, according to another hadith:
During the pre-lslamic period of ignorance I saw a she-monkey surrounded by a number of monkeys. They were all stoning it, because it had committed illegal sexual intercourse. I too, stoned it along with them. (Bukhari, vol. 5, bk. 58, no. 188)
Muhammad’s example is, of course, normative for Islamic behavior, since “truly in the messenger of Allah you have an excellent example for him who looks to Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much” (Qur’an 33:21).
“Al-Shabaab stones mother-of-eight to death for adultery in Somalia,” Independent, October 27, 2017 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
Somalia’s Islamist group al-Shabaab has publicly stoned a woman to death in a town in the south for cheating on her husband, an official told Reuters.
Al Shabaab, which has been waging a war for years to topple the Horn of Africa country’s western-backed government, seeks to bring in rule based on its strict interpretation of sharia law.
Sheikh Mohamed Abu Abdalla, al-Shabaab’s governor for Somalia’s Jubba regions in the south, said Habiba Ali Isak, a 30-year-old mother of eight children, was killed by stoning in Sakow on Thursday afternoon….
Members of al-Shabaab have in the past handed out harsh punishments for religious infractions including hacking off of limbs for alleged thieves and public executions.
Isak lived with her legal husband and children in Hagar village in Jubba, but cheated on her husband after she told him she was travelling to Mogadishu to visit her relatives, Abdalla said.
Her legal husband, Ali Ibrahim, subsequently found out his wife did not go to Mogadishu but instead had married again and was living with another husband in Sakow….

A pitiful way to finally escape a barbaric “community”. How much needs to be written about the hypocrisy of a teaching that allows the male to pretty well do as he pleases, but kills the woman because she is dirt? 1400 years is enough. Rabbi or Christ, Jesus is credited with teaching, “Let him without sin cast the first stone,” and “Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.” Could that mean that the merciless do not deserve mercy? God’s Children, ALL who look to HIM as Father, deserve better.

Allot of ignorant people still believe that Muslims in general are morally on the same level as the members of other religions. Jews understand that, regardless of what is in the Torah, stoning people to death for adultery or anything else is abhorrent. Muslims by and large don’t. They know it is part of their religious culture and have no problem saying so. No other religion has so many adherents who are motivated by hatred of other people. So many that it completely upends the definition and purpose of what the average person considers a religion to be.

The verse of stoning was APPARENTLY once in the Koran. This firstly creates a big problem for Muslims because it proves the Koran which claims immutability IS FALSE. In fact, the left-out verse of stoning shows that the Koran certainly has changed and that Allah did not defend his book as the Koran says he will.
Omar said the verse of stoning SHOULD be in the Koran, but Muslims PRACTICE the lost verse of stoning AS IF it is still in the Koran, even though it isn’t currently in the Koran and hasn’t been at least 1400 years.
So either way, if the verse of stoning was lost from the Koran, then Islam is false and Allah was unable to defend his Koran from vandals who changed it, so Islam is false and Allah is a figment of imagination

Your logic is impeccable, Mortimer–I mean that sincerely.
Sadly, most pious Muslims could not care less about logic and reason–getting together in mobs to stone women to death is so much more compelling for them.

Hey, Linda Sarsour, explain this event in the context of islam and gender equality! Men can have 4 wives, but the vice ain’t versa. Men can jettison a wife at any time with the triple talaq. If this African muslima had said the magic words, three times, why hadn’t she become another divorcee who could marry a new spouse, just the way a muslim can? Hmm?
By the way Linda, how many spouses can gay couples have altogether in your all-inclusive religion?
Seriously, I feel sorry for the eight children. They’re already screwed: muslim under al-Shabab. Maybe al-Shabby will give them some Christian slaves to look after them.

Somalia: Muslims stone mother of eight to death for adultery

God, I hate Islam.
Benedict says
G: That’s indeed a harsh judgment, but not very different from the one prescribed in Jewish tradition.
If the father of the eight children instead divorced the mother of his eight children and was assigned custody of the children, would that be a just and sufficient sociopolitical punishment for the woman in such a case, in your opinion? Or what would you suggest?
Frank Anderson says
Benedict, I suggest the problem with many Christians is that their information about Jews stopped being “updated” in 323 when Emperor Constantine froze the Bible. Many of the attacks on Judaism in both Biblical translations and Christian teachings do everything directed toward characterizing Jews as hateful, cruel and thoughtless.
People who visit Jewish congregations for the first time still quite frequently ask to see the sacrificial altar. But there has been no sacrificial altar anywhere in Judaism since the year 70 when the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed. There are no priests, high or otherwise, anywhere in Judaism. There are certainly harsh and cruel words in ancient Jewish teaching. But those words have been followed by 2,500 years of new thoughts. I really can’t tell when the last person was stoned by a Jewish mob (I don’t know). But it is an incredibly long time ago.
The first time I visited a Jewish congregation I was shocked to see for myself the incredible difference between what I had heard all my life from Christian sources and what really was taught, not necessarily practiced perfectly, by Jewish teachers (Rabbis) and congregations. The profound wisdom that is included in Jewish teaching gives me insight into the origin and teachings of Jesus, whom some consider the first “well-known” Reform Jewish Rabbi, and make me feel a true kinship with all of God’s Children. Please see for yourself. I suggest you contrast the ongoing process of examination in Judaism, particularly the Reform (NO “ed” because the process is incomplete and continuing), with the 1400 year lack of thought in islam where it is the “final, perfect, complete and unchangeable” word of a god of pure evil. Please do not expect perfection: According to Jewish teaching there is no perfection where humans are involved; a really honest statement, and another stark contrast with other teachings..
Benedict says
Jesus:
“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”
Moses:
“And the man that commits adultery with another man’s wife, even he that commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.”
and
“If a young woman who is a virgin is betrothed to a husband, and a man finds her in the city and lies with her, then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city, and you shall stone them to death with stones …”
You can alter the application of the law of Moses but not the law that is written.
Jesus came to fulfill the law not to reform the law.
Evidently the fulfillment of the law in Jesus was demonstrated by his authority to forgive sinners; only he who is without sin himself is authorized, indeed able to forgive: “But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Only when our own trespasses are forgiven are we free, indeed able to forgive others. And forgiving others cannot be institutionalized by politics since it is a sacrament that is given in the chosen moment of God.
Saying this is not “characterizing Jews as hateful, cruel and thoughtless” – Jesus was the most Jewish Jew who ever lived, and he is forever the “Son of David” and “the Lion of Judah.” No one who believes that this “salvation is of the Jews” can hate the Jews – but Jews who don’t believe this hate in effect themselves.
Frank Anderson says
Benedict, you lack the knowledge of the history of the “Old Testament” and hang on to the lies that have been propagated for nearly 2,000 years to make Jews into “the evil other”. Moses did not write the first 5 books of the Bible to Christians or the Tanakh to Jews, or the Torah (the first 5 books). Jews long ago accepted that he did not because they know when those books were first written about 1,000 years after Moses. For 1,000 years the story was carried by nothing more than oral tradition, and certainly subject to all kinds of errors and deception. Unless Moses came back from the dead to write them, you are holding a view that cannot be supported. Jews are not the easiest people to get along with; but in Masonic terms, for the vast majority of them, the good outweighs the bad, and they are worth the effort. Unless you want to remain in a state of ignorance (“Deliberate ignorance constitutes knowledge of the truth.” Wyle v. R.J.Reynolds, 709 F.2d 585 (9th Cir. 1983)), you might do some reading. One of the first books I would suggest is Constantine’s Sword. The other 2 books I have identified previously might also put some light into your dark mind.

G: That’s indeed a harsh judgment, but not very different from the one prescribed in Jewish tradition.
………………………………
In Jewish tradition *when*, Benedict?
By the time the “Prophet” of Islam came along 1400 years ago, Jews were no longer practicing stonings–in fact, Muhammed himself condemns them for this.
If a group of people have not practiced something for a millenium and a half, I think it is safe to say that it is no longer a part of their tradition–unless you want to be judged for the practices of your distant ancestors during the Dark Ages. I know I wouldn’t–I think some of my ancestors were still sacrificing people in bogs at that point–something I can assure you I don’t consider part of my current tradition.
More:
If the father of the eight children instead divorced the mother of his eight children and was assigned custody of the children, would that be a just and sufficient sociopolitical punishment for the woman in such a case, in your opinion? Or what would you suggest?
………………………………
I’m fine with him divorcing her–probably the only reason she didn’t get divorced in the first place is that Islam is not especially keen on granting women divorces.
As for the children, I don’t know. If she was just a bad mother who abandoned her children for some new guy, then absolutely–the father should get custody. If there was something else going on, like wife-beating, then it is more complicated.
Certainly under Islam, the mother *never* has a chance of custody of children if her husband does not want her to.
Regardless, your implication that there was no real alternative to digging a hole, burying this woman up to her chest, and then having a howling mob stone her to death is both disturbing and bizarre.
Benedict says

and
“Regardless, your implication that there was no real alternative to digging a hole, burying this woman up to her chest, and then having a howling mob stone her to death is both disturbing and bizarre.” –
1. Try to be reasonable, G! Don’t conjure up implications that are not there. What is disturbing is that in Islamic or Islamist culture there is no alternative to the stoning of women for adultery. In and with the gospel of Christ there is an alternative. Unfortunately this alternative is rejected in Islam and cheapened to no value in our culture.
2. “Jewish tradition” here: Jewish written tradition = the written law of Moses handed down throughout centuries.
Frank Anderson says
Benedict, I think you will find the overwhelming majority of Jewish scholars, teachers and followers agree that Moses did not write the Torah. Also, the vast majority of all groups within Judaism (Ultra-Orthodox, Orthodox, Conservative, Reform. . .), no matter how “orthodox” have developed, changed, discovered far more that is described in the frozen picture given in the Tanakh and Bible. In all my experience with Judaism I have never seen nor heard of any commitment to an inflexible statement, as islam makes of its perfect, complete, final and unchangeable commitment to evil.
The foundation of Judaism, the Torah, was not written for more or less a thousand years after the Exodus and after Moses’ death. Ascribing it the perfection as The Word of God by Jews is a gross misstatement. “The Word of God is in there somewhere, along with plenty of error and deception, just as the Word is all around us everywhere else. The challenge is to find it and put it to work in our lives.” The Torah was not the end of Jewish thought and writing, which continues today.
Why not spend some time by doing some reading (ex. Jews, God and History, or What is a Jew) and make a number of visits to congregations to see where and how severely you are in error? There could be found some inspiration for your doing some good later on.

Things must have been pretty rotten at home with the ‘legal’ husband, if she ran off to marry someone else, given she’s a Muslim and its Somalia and she would’ve known all these consequences that come with actions like this.
Or, she was as dumb as a box of rocks (no pun intended whatsoever) and honestly, there isn’t any curing stupidity that extreme.
Yes, I feel sad that she was buried to her waist in the dirt and killed in such a hideously sadistic manner – but I have no doubt that she was surrounded by a huge number of braying men, women and children – as well as those soldiers – all of whom would have been screaming terrible things at her, whilst throwing rocks at her til she died. What a brutal way to go.
I’ve become so inured to the brutality of sadism of Muslims and their beloved Islam that I don’t really feel anything that I should feel, hearing this news. I should be horrified, upset, angry for her etc.
Honestly, all I see is a woman who bred 8 kids to some animal and who had run off with another animal to presumably breed 8 more. Had she of survived, you can guarantee that at some point in the next decade, she and her gigantic brood would have made their way to the West for a life on welfare. Or – when the next famine or full-on civil war hits Somalia -she and her gigantic brood would have been there, hands out, demanding foreign aid, food and water, medicine and shelter.
And she probably had no choice in any of this. No choice in marrying the first idiot, the ‘legal’ husband. No choice in punching out 8 kids – and God knows how many miscarriages, stilllborns and dead children along the way. She probably has very little if no education – and no choice over whether she can access an education. Probably has no choice about whether she can work and provide for her mega brood. She was most likely a woman with no choices, forced into the strict parameters that her filthy religion caged her in for her entire life – until she let herself make a choice – and ran off with another man.
Not a wise choice, all things considered. But probably her first and last choice she ever got to make. And we are importing the Somali Diaspora ALL OVER THE WORLD. These primitive sadists are in all of our nations, breeding like flies, continuing as much of their cultural practices and religious practices in our nations, as they can get away with.
Islam is sickening on so many levels. But Somali culture takes the cake. Anyone who hasn’t already read Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali really should, just to get a feel for the tribalism and the primitive level of that culture. These are people who would still be running around with spears and chucking them at one another, if the rest of the world didn’t provide them with literally every single resource, food item, goods, services and products that are available in the world today. These people couldn’t knock up homemade paper to write on, without international support, let alone electricity grids, or plastics, or even pushbikes for Pete’s sake.
