Toronto public school board guide pushes Muslim greetings during morning announcements

Oct 1, 2017 12:26 pm By Robert Spencer

“The Toronto District School Board designates a number of heritage months throughout the year and October is Islamic Heritage Month. A 170-page guidebook prepared for teachers recommends a variety of religious intrusions into the public school system. A list of announcements it suggests be read before or after the playing of O Canada include the Muslim greeting ‘As-salamu alaykum’ (peace be upon you) and an invitation to visit a local mosque….The Toronto District School Board doesn’t have a heritage month for Christians, but does for Jews and Sikhs. However, there is nowhere near the same effort put into these endeavours as the Islamic one and while a Sikh guidebook is in the works there isn’t a Jewish one.”

Why not? Because Christians, Sikhs and Jews don’t play the victim card as skillfully or indefatigably as Muslims do. Or maybe because the Toronto District School Board knows what Canada will be like in five or ten years, if present trends continue.

“Toronto public school board guide pushes Muslim greetings during morning announcements and other intrusions,” by Anthony Furey, Postmedia Network, September 29, 2017 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

While public school students all across Canada typically learn about the world’s major religions at some point during their studies, one school board’s guidebook on Islam is edging close to religious instruction and indoctrination.

The Toronto District School Board designates a number of heritage months throughout the year and October is Islamic Heritage Month. A 170-page guidebook prepared for teachers recommends a variety of religious intrusions into the public school system.

A list of announcements it suggests be read before or after the playing of O Canada include the Muslim greeting “As-salamu alaykum” (peace be upon you) and an invitation to visit a local mosque.

Children are encouraged to use paper cut-outs to construct replicas of famous mosques around the world.

One assignment for students includes writing an article about one of 12 Muslim Canadians, four of whom are Liberal politicians currently in office, including Ontario Attorney General Yasir Naqvi.

These would all be done within the classroom and during school time. They’re also not to be restricted just to October because, as the guidebook notes, “the goal is to embed this learning within every classroom, across the curriculum, and throughout the school year.”

The guide doesn’t keep its focus solely on historical and scriptural matters, either. It delves into a variety of contemporary social issues, but in a way that glosses over widely known controversies surrounding the faith.

It says that, while women sit at the back or a different section of the mosque during prayers, “Islam never considered where women and men perform their prayer in terms of gender superiority/inferiority, and as such, it should not be perceived in this way.” There is no mention of the second-class treatment Muslim women suffer in the name of the faith in countries, such as Saudi Arabia.

It reports on recent survey information from the Pew Center to present data on Muslim populations around the world, but neglects to mention that the authoritative institute’s reports also include very troubling data about Muslim perspectives.

These include its findings that the majority of Muslims in various regions across the world support implementing sharia law and, for these particular respondents in South Asia and the Middle East, that form of sharia includes severe punishments like executing people who leave the faith.

For educators and parents concerned about these alarming issues, the booklet offers no insight.

The guide does not address the notoriously intolerant view of LGBT rights throughout broad swaths of the Muslim faith, despite how the Toronto District School Board has a vocal inclusion policy on sexual diversity.

While parliamentarians are currently grappling with how to define the term Islamophobia, the guide offers a broad definition to be recited to students that includes the mere dislike of political Islam: “Islamophobia refers to fear, prejudice, hatred or dislike directed against Islam or Muslims, or towards Islamic politics or culture.”…

The Toronto District School Board doesn’t have a heritage month for Christians, but does for Jews and Sikhs. However, there is nowhere near the same effort put into these endeavours as the Islamic one and while a Sikh guidebook is in the works there isn’t a Jewish one.

    Canadstan in the making.
Wake up you Liberal retards. Or do you prefer waking up to at dawn by loud speakers from your local mosque.
Or do you prefer losing your freedom of speech. Wait you lost that already with M103.

At last count, Toronto, Canada was acknowledged as the 3rd most Italian-populated city in the world.
Has this “progressive” Toronto District School Board given any thought, even before Muslim migrants arrived, and when Italian emigration has been in progress for years to Toronto, to teaching greetings in the Italian language? Or, what about Chinese, Korean, and such far eastern languages since those folks have been migrating?

      I doubt it, Stan.

I remember there was once a slogan, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste”. I am deeply sorry for its loss among members of the Toronto District School Board.

Instructing is a form of programming that leaves physical evidence of change within the human brain. It should be carefully selected and contain no falsehoods.

I can imagine the Canadian child that greets an adult Muslim with, “As-salamu alaykum” and gets only, “and on you”, a stare, or totally ignored.

    Imagine the response to “Shalom”.

How the f*** does this happen? Is there no opposition in the school board? What is the majority population in the district? By now it should be obvious that not only individuals can go insane but entire nation states can go insane

This is a COMPULSORY religious observance. In the USA it would be considered “state establishment of religion” and would not pass the most cursory constitutional scrutiny.

Does Canada not have ANY laws prohibiting compulsory introduction of religious observance into schools? Of course, getting the government of Jihadi Justin to actually enforce such laws is quite another matter, as we can readily appreciate.

The Toronto District School Board should reflect upon the fact that in not one of the 56 majority-Muslim nations is there a “Christian Heritage Month.” But the Board won’t. You can bet they won’t.

There exists, of course, in Muslim-majority nations all kinds of humiliations for Christians, if not outright lethal danger. But the Toronto District School Board, I’m sure, couldn’t be bothered to know about this. Indeed, it would be “Islamophobic” to point it out.

    The madness continues.

True, Wellington. There is no reciprocity in Islam–but the Toronto school board doesn’t know that, and likely does not want to learn.

Here are the “Days of Significance” in the Toronto School Calendar:

      http://www.tdsb.on.ca/Portals/0/AboutUs/docs/DaysOfSignificance.pdf

You can see that *very few* of them have anything to do with Canada, or even the West. Islam features very heavily.

No, they dont have that type of “heritage celebrations” in the school system… but it sounds like people in KY sure look forward to celebrating that event.

Here is a list of the Toronto School Board Days of Significance… it is a long list and includes all sorts of religious/spiritual celebrations… even the Wiccans. http://www.tdsb.on.ca/Portals/0/AboutUs/docs/DaysOfSignificance.pdf

The month of March celebrates Greek Heritage… Irony of ironies: One of the trustees, a Greek, suggested they choose the date of March 21, 1821–to commemorate the Revolution War to liberate Greece from the Ottoman rule… I guess the trustee forgot why the Greeks wanted to be liberated! I want to laugh, but its too sad!

During Greek Heritage Month students and teachers were able to admire displays of Greek artwork and architecture, while students performed the Greek national anthem and traditional Greek dancing.

The suggestion to make March the month to celebrate was made by trustee Sam Sotiropoulos and it was approved by all members of the Toronto District School Board. March 25th, 1821 was the date the Greek Revolution War started to liberate the country from Ottoman rule.

In the inauguration ceremony the audience was greeted by TDSB director Donna Quann, associate directors Gen Ling Chan and Angelo Bakopoulos, TDSB executive superintendents Sandy Spyropoulos and Jim Spyropoulos, TDSB vice chair Sheila Cary-Meagher, city councellor Mary Fragedakis, Greek Consul General Alexandros Ioannidis, and the president of the Toronto Greek Community Antonis Artemakis.

There will be a lot more events focusing on Greece and Greek civilization and culture during the month in all TDSB schools.

Toronto public school board guide pushes Muslim greetings during morning announcements…

    …October is Islamic Heritage Month.
    …………………………….

If only the Toronto schools taught the *real* “heritage” of Islam–rape, oppression, and mass slaughter. But they won’t.

    More:

A list of announcements it suggests be read before or after the playing of O Canada include the Muslim greeting ‘As-salamu alaykum’ (peace be upon you) and an invitation to visit a local mosque….
    …………………………….

Do they tell you that Infidels cannot be greeted with “As-slamu alaykum”? I’m sure they don’t. In many cases, a Muslim will not even return the greeting if it is initiated by a Kuffar.

Here’s Islam Q & A, the most read Islamic site in English:

“How should we return the greeting of salaam from a non-Muslim?”

    Praise be to Allaah.

It is not permissible – firstly – to initiate the greeting of salaam to a non-Muslim. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Do not initiate the greeting of salaam to a Jew or a Christian…” (Narrated by Muslim, 2167)…

If a non-Muslim greets us with the correct shar’i greeting (i.e., says ‘Al-salaamu ‘alaykum’ clearly), the scholars differed as to whether we have to return the greeting…

    And Allaah knows best.

Yes, graven, it happened to me. I was visiting in Qatar for a couple of months…before I knew anything about Islam. So, I greeted someone at a museum and I first got back a look of disdain and secondly, no response. I asked a non-believer who worked there about it and he said, stick to good morning or good afternoon. That’s what we have been told to do. He didn’t know why that was and he had been there for 14 years. That’s when I started to look into Islam.

I looked at them over a year ago and I walked away. They have a broad platform but really, they are a two issue party (pro-life/pro-family) and for me, that doesn’t cut it; the hijra is the issue.

As well, I don’t know if it’s due to bad management or bad marketing but they managed to alienate me even before I joined. I went through their entire website to research them and I noticed that all the stock photos that they used to enhance their website’s look and feel, portrayed NOTHING BUT visible minorities. An example was the part of the platform on family policy. At the top of the page is a large image of an asian family. It reminded me of walking into one of the big Canadian banks to do banking. There on the walls of the bank are all picture of happy customers and not one of the individuals portrayed is white. I wouldn’t have even notice if it was a big happy mix but noooo, this is Canada, the land of over-the-top politically correctness and virtue signalling.
I’m forced to be made to feel like a stranger when I do banking but I’ll be damned if I’m going to donate to a political party that has absolutely no clue who’s in its base.
I emailed one of the officials and told her that all the candidates and officials are all lily white – so why would they commit this act of unnecessary political correctness? Of course I knew the reason. They did it because they knew whites, who predominate in their membership, wouldn’t say a word. The white guilt; we won’t say anything; we don’t dare say anything. So they market to visible minorities. Do they think they will become the next big party for new immigrants? Do they think that Amer-Indians will suddenly be signing up in droves? No, these people, by and large, hate its members and what this party stands for!
I no longer put up with being made to feel completely excluded just to make another person feel included.
And I don’t think any party that doesn’t know or acknowledge its base is going to ever be a winning party.

Well…at least Ontario’s Catholics have a way out – they can send their children to the free publicly-funded schools of the Toronto Catholic School Board. We Jews and other kuffars would have to fork over thousands of dollars a year to escape Islam if we wanted to send our kids to private schools in the city.

I’m not sure of the Ontario laws around this but in most provinces you can allocate your school tax dollars to whichever school system you wish. Once you direct your tax dollars to the Catholic system (often called Separate), your kids can go there. I’m sure the principle wouldn’t mind if your kid did a study period during ‘religious studies’ class.
