“The husband may forbid his wife to leave the home…because of the hadith related by Bayhaqi that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, ‘It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to allow someone into her husband’s house if he is opposed, or to go out if he is averse’” (Reliance of the Traveller m10.4).
That is from a manual of Islamic law that al-Azhar, the foremost institution in Sunni Islam, certifies as “conforming to the practice and faith of the orthodox Sunni community.”
And it says a husband can forbid his wife to leave the home. Feminist leader Linda Sarsour thinks that’s reasonable:
So what would have happened if this famed feminist Muslim leader of the Women’s March on Washington last January had had to skip the march altogether, because her husband decided he wanted her around the house that day?
What would all of the feminists who revere Linda Sarsour and hail her “courage” have thought then?
This is one of the absurdities created by the alliance of Western secular liberals with Islamic supremacists. I explore it and many others like it in my new book Confessions of an Islamophobe. Sarsour and many other pro-Sharia feminists, as well as pro-Sharia gay activists, pro-Sharia rabbis and other anomalies of our absurd age feature prominently in its pages.

Sarsour is way too useful for the cause, so she’s allowed to stay on the long leash. For now.

Linda wears a strap-on device, so there is no chance of her getting a “stay home” directive.

Isn’t that extremely strange that her husband is permitting her to engage in such activity? It is proving to me only one thing: that her “marriage” (if existing at all) is phony, political expediency arrangement and she is just used by other Mohammedans as a TOOL in destroying the West by its “miserable hands.” No other explanation is possible.

She was married off in an arranged marriage when she was a teenager.
I think he just assumes that her actions–and current comparative freedom–are good for Islam.
If Islam is ever fully established here, that will be the end of that.

Thank you, mortimer, for posting this video. Well worth watching.
Near the end one man mentioned the “elephant in the room” preventing “gender equality”. He did not name that “elephant”.
I would hope that as these muslims work through this, as this brave woman is trying to do without losing her muslim faith, they will realize that there is no elephant “in the room”; rather the presence “in the room” is a diabolical monstrosity that enslaves women and makes inhuman beasts of men – and that evil is Islam.
It is so difficult, maybe impossible, for many muslims, who have much good in their hearts, to see that intertwined evil, because they have grown up with Islam as the will of God, who they do not want to reject.

I was so impressed with how well that woman could articulate her arguments and think on her feet. No matter what the moderator said, and he was well prepared in advance, she had a cogent answer for him. So here I am saying “that woman” because we have never even heard her name before, and it takes more than one video for a name to stick. Why have we never heard her name?
Such a brilliant woman fighting on the front line with the most misogynistic society in the world should be a hero to Western feminists. Her named should be evoked at every rally. She should be featured on panels everywhere, but who do we get instead? A scum bag cockroach like Linda Sarsour who pretends to be a feminist yet advocates for Sharia; a total fraud.
In fact, a quarter of the world’s female population – Muslim women, don’t even exist for Western feminists. These so called feminists are far more concerned about the microscopically tiny portion of the population that is transgender than they are about a quarter of the female population of the world. That fact alone shows that Western feminism is a bogus movement.

Well said, billybob.
Her name is Mona Eltahawy.
Keys says
from Wikipedia article on her (Mona Eltahawy):
“She described herself as “a secular, radical feminist Muslim” in a 2011 interview.”
“On September 25, 2012, Eltahawy was arrested for spraypainting an American Freedom Defense Initiative advertisement in a New York City Subway station that read: “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.” “
“ In 2009, The Economist said that Eltahawy used the phrase “the opium of the Arabs” referring to Israel, describing, as the magazine elaborated, “an intoxicating way for them to forget their own failings or at least blame them on someone else. Arab leaders have long practice of using Israel as a pretext for maintaining states of emergency at home and putting off reform.” “
“ In a May 2012 article in Foreign Policy, she wrote, “Name me an Arab country, and I’ll recite a litany of abuses [of women] fueled by a toxic mix of culture and religion that few seem willing or able to disentangle lest they blaspheme or offend.” “

Keys – thank you for your feedback and links. I had noticed that she failed to condemn Islam as the source of misogyny in the Arab world during her talk, but her statement that she considers herself a Muslim went right past me. So for all her efforts, she is doomed to fail, because she doesn’t recognize the source of the problem.
Of course if she was an apostate she would be dead in the water from the start and perhaps literally as well. She seems to think she can reinterpret the Quran as something that is benign to women, but she is never going to convince the Muslim world of such heresy.
Another criticism I had of her was that she condemned “all religion” of being misogynistic . While I am not knowledgeable of “all religions”, I do know that Christianity is NOT misogynistic. If you read Christ’s teachings or about his life there is no.misogyny there so I resented her slander.
Anyhow, my original comment still stands even in spite of this new information you have provided me.

Are any statistics available on the percentage of women who believe in (1) both Allah and the Last Day, (2) Allah but not the Last Day, (3) the Last Day but not Allah, (4) neither Allah nor the Last Day? And what is this Last Day, anyway? Last Day of what? Where in the Quran did Allah define this term “Last Day”?
