The two Stanford administrators who were present when I spoke there Tuesday evening were Nanci Howe, Associate Dean and Director of Student Affairs, and Snehal Naik, Assistant Dean and Associate Director of Student Affairs. They were not there to listen and consider; they were there to ensure that the event was disrupted.
They did this first by making sure that the hall was packed with students who had no intention of attending the lecture, but were there only to sabotage it by denying seats to people who actually wanted to attend. They even kept out some members of the College Republicans, the group that was sponsoring the event.
Then, after the walkout, they refused to allow in people who actually wanted to attend, refusing repeated requests to do so.
They also refused to allow the Young America’s Foundation to stream the event, clearly because they knew what was in the offing and did not want video going out live that would show just how much Stanford has deteriorated and how opposed it is to free discourse.
I had no contact with Howe. Naik, wearing the same mouse-colored jacket he sports in the photo with Trevor Noah, greeted me with great warmth and affability, and actually said, “We’re glad you’re here.” Oleaginous insincerity oozed from his every pore. Belying his unctuous demeanor, he was so unyielding that at the end of the event, when College Republicans (who have been bullied and victimized by Stanford administrators all through this process, and egregiously and repeatedly smeared in the Stanford Daily and other student publications) asked him if some of the members who had not been allowed in could now come in for a group photo, he refused to allow even that.
At that point, I asked him if he had always been a fascist, or had become one recently. He looked embarrassed. He should be embarrassed. Fascism has no place on university campuses, or shouldn’t, but thanks to Nanci Howe and Snehal Naik and so many others like them all over the nation, it is dominant.
A sane university would fire Howe and Naik immediately. However, it is likely that they are not responsible, but were just executing orders from higher up. It is Stanford President Marc Tessier-Lavigne and Provost Persis Drell who should be fired. But it is much more likely that they will be lauded and hailed by their peers for their denial of free inquiry.

One good thing about all this… the students that are still able to THINK – the ones who still have their intellectual curiosity intact – will want to know what this is all about.

This is how Stanford administration and students show their respect if they disagree with an invited guest. In the case of the former they come unprepared to handle planned protests. In the latter they come with the sole purpose of disrupting the event mid stream by standing and walking out. I can forgive students who were perhaps between 2 and 6 years of age on Sept.11, 2001. At some point if they research the topic a bit more will be disappointed in the way they have been manipulated. I implore them to do their own thinking. Just today it was published that UAE is suggesting Germany monitor Mosques to control extremism like the UAE deos home. I guess Muslims can be Islamophobic too. .
rubiconcrest says
If these 3 Deans participated in the planned protest and did not inform their superiors and security they may have violated terms of their contracts. Security was probably why extra guests were not allowed to enter after the event started but security should have been informed of this situation beforehand if there was foreknowledge because having large numbers exit in the middle is a risk to those in attendance.

Note the impeccably “sophisticated” names at the “C” level of the Stanford “Org.” Certainly no “Nancis” and “Snehals” on the executive floor.
You can just hear “Marc” and “Persis” discussing Snehal with knowing glances as the waiter at the faculty club approaches to take their drinks order: “Snehal is just so marvelously active and engaged. He went to UCSD.”

Naik is definitely an armed and dangerous snake. Wonder if he’s any relation to that Islamoterror preacher Zakir Naik?

Bill49 says
So he is a Camel Rider. War is deceit and there seems to be more collusion here than I have noticed for other events. Was there outside influence in developing the the strategy to limit the impact of the message. There was a conspiracy to (1) acquire seats and populate the attendance with those who would walk out, (2) provide authority to refuse admittance those who would replace those who conspired to walk out and (3) refuse to allow video streaming of the event to those who wished to attend remotely. So are the locals this strategic? The lead-up indicated that safe-places were going to be provided. Where did the expertise in deceit come from to change that to a coordinated effort to suppress the audience of the speaker?

Snehal Naik and Nanci Howe are examples of the unholy alliance of the Red-Green Axis… a cooperation between jihadists and neo-Marxism to suppress discussion of Islam’s authentic JIHAD DOCTRINE, SUPREMACISM DOCTRINE and AL WALAA WAL BARAA DOCTRINE and TAQIYYA DOCTRINE. Those basic, essential, compulsory political doctrines of Islam are the motivations and means of Islam for creating the Islamic Sharia law Utopia. But Nanci Howe does not know that, though Snehal Naik does and keeps them hidden from Nanci Howe as he plays her along.
QUESTION: who will betray the other one FIRST? Will the Leftards of Nanci Howe first betray the Muslims. Or will the Muslims of Snehal Naik betray the Leftards first? The betrayal has happened in other countries where this unholy alliance has been tried.
A similar technique was used by the Bolsheviks who encouraged Muslim cooperation with their revolution while at the same time suppressing Christianity and other political views ruthlessly. Eventually, the Bolsheviks turned on the Muslims, burned their mosques and had them arrested and then deported to Siberia en masse where many perished in the Gulag.
Eventually, Leftards do catch on to the Muslim game, and then the game is over when the Leftards become disenchanted … and they will be.

Isn’t it interesting that critical discussion of Islam is called Islamophobia while using Pallywood-style doctored photos and the Protocols of the Elders of Zion is called scholarly?
Even discussing travel bans is labeled as a ban on “mostly Muslim countries” while bans on Israeli academics even allowed to speak at universities are not labeled as an academic ban on the ONLY mostly Jewish nation.

Custos Custodum says
True in substance, although technically, Hindus cannot be “dhimmis” since they are not “people of the book.”
In Saudi Arabia, the heirs of a Christian killed e.g. in an accident are nominally entitled to one-half the compensation that would be paid for the death of a Muslim male. Of course, compensation is awarded if at all at the discretion of a Muslim “judge” who is instructed to give precedence to Muslim witnesses.
The life of a follower of a religion other than Christianity or Judaism (e.g. a Hindu) is “worth” only one-sixteenth of the amount for a Muslim male even if the Muslim “judge” condescends to award any compensation at all.

“… they knew what was in the offing and did not want video going out live that would show just how much Stanford has deteriorated and how opposed it is to free discourse…”
This is an understatement. Universities have knowingly turned their backs on enlightenment humanist principles and Christian values by denying the right of conscience for individuals and championing only ‘group rights’ of their choosing. The curriculum of humanities and social science disciplines have been crippled by the wholesale adoption of Postmodern values which like the Fascist values of the mid 20th Century are wholly concerned with power politics between social groups. The notion of truthfulness has become just another subjective plaything for a movement that has lost its moral compass. Only in the hard sciences, in Physics, Chemistry and Biology can a student pursue knowledge largely outside of this Postmodern Circus. But these science subjects provide little input into the world of ideas concerning Social Policy and so its fair to say that the lights have been switched off in the social sciences by the senior staff and students are now fumbling about in a mad disorientated world obsessed with a quest for power.

Such a disgrace that this happened. Even though I am not university affiliated (thank God), I wish I had known RS was here before this disgraceful display. Sad – or perhaps encouraging – that Stanford had to send two minders to make sure the students would duly sabotage the event and literally turn their backs on enlightenment.
The students might – gasp! – have learned something new and unexpected, but of course, learning new things is not what a modern “university” is about.
Long ago, in the 20th century, students were at least able to organize their sit-ins and boycott or interrupt lectures without help from the administration. Maybe somebody should get busy writing a boycott app for their “smart phones.”

You should only have to apologize if you think the contributors to this forum have a misguided tendency to generalize and attribute judgements to large groups of people based on their ideology. I would like to assume that the culture here is not to pass judgement on all hindus just because this guy, who happens to have a hindu name, participated in the fearful and immature antics of this university and their intolerance for dissenting views. Rather, I’d prefer to assume that the culture here is to improve our understanding of how individual and collectivities of humans can be so out of touch with reality that they deny the very knowledge that would help them understand what the stakes are in life. It’s easy to see the grotesque distortion of thought and ethic that is Islam, but it is much more difficult to see the micro-fascisms in oneself. And likely, we who think ourselves not fascist at all, are going to be just as intolerant and defensive to the notion that we have micro-fascisms as those putrid kids at stanford are to the notion that they even did anything stupid by staging a protest at Robert Spencer’s talk.
Custos Custodum says
True – some Hindus are extremely brave and independent-minded, but there is also a deeply ingrained culture of “keeping one’s head down” and sucking up to power that has developed in India through thousands of years of caste-based social organization combined with the toxic history of centuries under Muslim rule.
gravenimage says
Infidel, I certainly don’t judge all Indians by this tool–I don’t think anyone here does.
Chand says
Infidel says: “……….how Hindus have suffered at the hands of Islam and continue to suffer………….”
Hindus have surely suffered under Muslim rule in many parts of India for the last millennium but many, many Hindus have suffered under upper caste Hindus for millennia.
In fact because of caste oppression India remains a divided nation and have been for millennia, making her weak and hollow, thus allowing foreign invaders to invade and conquer her, including the Muslims for the past millennium.
Hinduism is one of the most oppressive religions, oppressing its own in the name of caste inferiority. Thus Bhimrao Ambedkar, one of the authors of the Indian Constitution, encouraged Hindus, especially the lower castes, to convert to Buddhism to lead dignified lives.

many universities are very scary places. At the beginning cultural Marxists running the show ordered things and people followed grudgingly. Then the rational thinkers were replaced with ideologues who share the Marxist outlook. That created a strict ideological atmosphere where really no one is in charge any more and everybody is every of the ideological monster that they created and supported. That monster grows in strength and gets more evil every day. I have a gay friend (married to a guy) who is outraged at the brutal suppression of debate, also about gay “rights”.
It is thus difficult to say whether these two totalitarians do these things because they support the goal and the tactics, because they are scared for their jobs or because they are simply dimwits who never think and are happy to follow the herd.
They are, however, all guilty of destroying academia.
