When one man has the courage to stand up and do the right thing, others follow.
“Guatemala to move embassy to Jerusalem, backing Trump,” Reuters, December 25, 2017:
GUATEMALA CITY (Reuters) – Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales said on Sunday he had given instructions to move the Central American country’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, a few days after his government backed the United States in a row over the city’s status.
In a short post on his official Facebook account, Morales said he decided to move the embassy from Tel Aviv after talking to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday.
This month U.S. President Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, reversing decades of U.S. policy and upsetting the Arab world and Western allies.
On Thursday, 128 countries defied Trump by backing a non-binding U.N. General Assembly resolution calling for the United States to drop its recognition of Jerusalem.
Guatemala was one of only a handful of countries to join the United States and Israel in voting against the resolution….

Guatemala must be a special country to buck the UN herd mentality. It must have a special history that distinguishes from other Latin and Central American countries like Mexico, Argentina, etc. What historical facts make Guatemala different that the rest?

Would to God the UK would do the same – but no the UK is practically sharia compliant already.
Robert_k says
An appropiate metaphor for the UK would be “Those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones” to wit, one should not criticize others for having the same weakness as themselves.
As the UK has shown what happens when one coddles Muslim supremacists, the UK should be the last country to criticize the US and Israel on how they deal with them.
Also, if there is such a thing as Divine Retribution, the UK is getting retribution “Measure for Measure”. It wants Israel to appease Muslim terrorists and the hell with the consequences – suicide bombers, vehicular run-over Jihad attacks, knifings, etc. It gets the same back. The question is will the UK be as stiff-hearted as Pharaoh and continue suffering the worsening plagues of Radical Islam until it is utterly devastated like Biblical Egypt?

This is called leadership. It’s a lonely position with few feel-good rewards; a much harder path than following the adoring crowd. Well done, President Morales.

Trump didn’t do anything except allow the will of the people of the United States to finally be carried out. So is the duty of the Executive Branch of government here. This is what most Americans have wanted for a long long time.
gravenimage says
True, Luis–but no president before has done this, so it *is* an achievement.

Let me now share with you a fact missed by all the so called experts in politics regarding the UN resolution against the USA moving its embassy to Jerusalem.
Of 192 voting nations in the UN, 128 were against the USA, 9 with and 35 abstentions. All the media and experts called it a resounding defeat for the USA and of course especially President Trump.
What these brain dead experts have not calculated are the following:
From 128 against, we must deduct 57 Muslim majority dysfunctional states that very obviously would like Jerusalem divided so as to have the Temple Mount under their control. This results in the following~
Against the USA 71 states.
For the USA, abstentions and not participating 64 states. The difference between the Nays and Yes is only SEVEN votes making it a resounding defeat for the Muslims and Arabs.
What is very disgusting and incomprehensible of all is the fact that most Christian nations – especially the ungrateful Europeans – supported a resolution allowing the DIVISION of Jerusalem with holiest place for Jews and Christians forever under the control of the most ardent haters of Jews and Christians called Muslims.

It should have been obvious that ALL UN resolutions since 1949 are ILLEGAL for the simple reason that the Arabs who were given the chance for a TWO states in Mandated Palestine in UN Resolution 181 in 1947 decided to start a war of EXTERMINATION against the newly born state of Israel
This was the FIRST act of WAR that the UN was created to avert, thus the Arabs ABROGATED (made Null and Void) the UN resolution and its terms and conditions allowing the creation of a Two States solution including all articles regarding Jerusalem
The Arabs started the war and LOST and now they (like ALL Muslims) whine and pretend to be VICTIMS of aggression
WHY no one is bringing these facts to the fore front of these spurious and illegitimate ‘resolutions’ beggars belief especially by Israelis

Yes, and the UN showed how feckless, cowardly, and useless it really is. Think that emboldened the PRC, USSR, and the DPRK to start a war in 1950 that still goes on?

That’s it, let’s get on with it – whoever wants to shift their embassy to Jerusalem should call in the removalists; those who prefer to stay put can save themselves the expense.

Thank you President Morales for your courage and bold action. Meanwhile the rest of the World continues too cower under the threat of terrorism or their own greed for market share in the Muslim World.

Israel and Guatemala go way back. Guatemala was one of the first countries to recognize Israel in 1948. Since then the two countries have grown ever closer — Israel has always been the first on the spot with help for Guatemalans after every natural disaster (all those live volcanoes). Israelis have provided their expertise, too, in security matters to help the government cope with violence. There is a large evangelical community that is very pro-Israel.
If you intend to visit Guatemala as a tourist, make sure you let the Guatemalans know that you are visiting, in part, because of Guatemala’s pro-Israel stance.

Thank you, Hugh–I was not aware of that.
Ibrahim itace muhammed says
people should note that moving Embassy to Jerusalem not recognized by international community as valid capital of the evil state of Israel is meaningless. it cannot issue valid travel documents to other countries . poor Guatemala lured by savage mad devil Trump with aids cut or stoppage!!
LeftisruiningCanada says
Did you even read what IQ Rassouli posted above? Do you see how pathetic it is for muslims to keep whining about someone else ignoring the ‘international community’?
It would be better if you stopped all this appealing to laws and international political bodies, and simply stated your real feelings on the matter – that you would be very very pleased if every Jew in Israel was slaughtered asap.
gravenimage says
If such a move is “meaningless”, then why is Ibrahim itace muhammed so unhinged over it?
Besides, his claim that Israel will be unable to issue valid travel documents from Jerusalem is just absurd. Does he think that every American has to personally travel to Washington, DC in order to get a passport?
Besides, if other nations relocating their embassies to Jerusalem would–somehow–limit the ability of Israelis to travel, you would think he would consider that a perk.
Also, who does he think is going to stop aid to Guatemala over this? Guatemala gets most of their aid from the “Great Satan” United States, and a few other civilized nations like Australia.
