“Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Jordan’s King Abdullah and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who all received phone calls from Trump on Tuesday, joined a mounting chorus of voices saying any unilateral U.S. move on Jerusalem could unleash turmoil.”
The U.S. has been kowtowing to this threat for decades. It’s time we stop. Showing that we will not be intimidated by jihad threats is much more likely to make us stronger in the long run than reinforcing the impression that we can be manipulated by promises of violence. The “Palestinians” and their allies are already waging jihad against Israel. This will not change that; it will only become the latest of many pretexts. If it weren’t this that jihadis were outraged over, it would be something else. It is high time we told them that we are going to do what is right, come what may.
“Trump tells Mideast leaders of plan to move embassy to Jerusalem in break with U.S. policy,” by Steve Holland and Nidal al-Mughrabi, Reuters, December 5, 2017:
WASHINGTON/GAZA — President Donald Trump told Arab leaders on Tuesday that he intends to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, a move that would break with decades of U.S. policy and risks fueling further unrest in the Middle East.
Senior U.S. officials have said Trump is likely on Wednesday to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital while delaying relocating the embassy from Tel Aviv for another six months, though he is expected to order his aides to begin planning such a move immediately.
The officials said, however, that no final decisions have been made. U.S. endorsement of Israel’s claim to all of Jerusalem as its capital would reverse long-standing U.S. policy that the city’s status must be decided in negotiations with the Palestinians, who want East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state. The international community does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over the entire city, home to sites holy to the Muslim, Jewish and Christian religions.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Jordan’s King Abdullah and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who all received phone calls from Trump on Tuesday, joined a mounting chorus of voices saying any unilateral U.S. move on Jerusalem could unleash turmoil.
Trump notified Abbas “of his intention to move the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem,” Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rdainah said. Abbas, in response, “warned of the dangerous consequences such a decision would have to the peace process and to the peace, security and stability of the region and of the world” and also appealed to the pope and the leaders of Russia, France and Jordan to intervene.
The Jordanian monarch told Trump that moving the embassy would have “dangerous repercussions” for the region and would obstruct U.S. efforts to promote Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, according to a palace statement. Egypt’s Sisi cautioned Trump against “taking measures that would undermine the chances of peace” and complicate matters in the Middle East, a presidential statement released in Cairo said.
None of the leaders’ statements said whether Trump, who was also due to talk to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, specified the timing of an embassy move.
But U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Trump would sign a national security waiver – as have his predecessors – keeping the embassy in Tel Aviv for another six months but would commit to expediting a move. It was unclear, however, whether he would set a date.
Trump, who promised during the 2016 presidential campaign to move the embassy to Jerusalem and is expected to announce his decision in a speech on Wednesday, appears intent on satisfying the pro-Israel, right-wing base that helped him win the presidency. Israeli Intelligence Minister Israel Katz, who met last week with U.S. officials in Washington, told Israel’s Army Radio: ”My impression is that the president will recognize Jerusalem, the eternal capital of the Jewish people for 3,000 years, as the capital of the state of Israel.”
Asked if Israel was preparing for a wave of violence if Trump recognizes Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, he said: ”We are preparing for every option. Anything like that can always erupt. If Abu Mazen (Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas) will lead it in that direction then he will be making a big mistake.”
Turkey threatened on Tuesday to cut diplomatic ties with Israel if Trump recognizes Jerusalem. “Mr. Trump, Jerusalem is the red line of Muslims,” Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan told a parliamentary meeting of his ruling AK Party.
People and security are seen outside the U.S Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, on Tuesday. © Amir Cohen People and security are seen outside the U.S Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel, on Tuesday.Senior U.S. officials told Reuters some officers in the State Department were also deeply concerned and the European Union, the Palestinian Authority, Saudi Arabia and the Arab League all warned that any such declaration would have repercussions across the region.
FEARS OF BACKLASH
Netanyahu has so far declined to speculate on what Trump might say. But Katz took to Twitter to reject Turkey’s threat and reiterate Israel’s position on the city, which is one of a long list of stumbling blocks in years of failed peace talks with the Palestinians. “We don’t take orders or accept threats from the president of Turkey,” he wrote.
Two U.S. officials said on condition of anonymity that news of the plan to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital had kicked up resistance from the State Department’s Near Eastern Affairs bureau, which deals with the region.
“Senior (officials) in NEA and a number of ambassadors from the region expressed their deep concern about doing this,” said one official, saying the concerns focused on “security.”
The State Department referred questions to the White House. The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment. A fourth U.S. official said the consensus U.S. intelligence estimate on U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital was that it would risk triggering a backlash against Israel, and also potentially against U.S. interests in the Middle East.
It could also derail a fledgling Israeli-Palestinian peace effort led by Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner.
The European Union’s top diplomat, Federica Mogherini, said on Tuesday that “any action that would undermine” peace efforts to create two separate states for the Israelis and the Palestinians “must absolutely be avoided.”…

Last i heard, many in Israel were very happy at the embassy move. The religious especially so.
I hope it happens. When the continually outraged muslims start attacking, which Israel is more than able to defend itself against, maybe a few more people in the West will have their eyes opened to how evil islam is.

Related ,very much oi this is that even of idea of some people of dividing Jerusalem as well as other parts of the State of Israel between the Jewish people of the Muslim/ Arabs is nothing but folly. To engage the madness of such “talks” is a hoax and a farce .This is because in the so called “negotiations” between the heads of the Jewish nation of Israel and the leaders of the “Palestinians” the Muslim /Arabs the “Palestinian” leaders will speak the truth only when in happens to fit their agenda. The rest of the time the will be speaking half-truths and outright lies. For their goal is to obtain all of the land of the State of Israel ,.Even in it takes much time and it means getting the land piece by piece. So those “peace talks” are a hoax. For the “Palestinian”leaders are employing what is the Islamic doctrine of Taqiyya . Which is the Islamic dogma that lying and deception are good things to do as long as it’s done for the cause of the advancement of Islam. The insidious scheme is part of the stealth jihad .Otherwise known as “Islamic Gradualism.” This sly and something subtle strategy of disingenuous speech, lying deception of achieving the goal of all the land of Israel a war ploy that will be a disaster if the heads of the State of Israel are foolish enough to agree to divide the land of Israel with Muslim /Arabs ,the “Palestinians.” For if such a “peace dialogue” results in a divided land, the outcome will literally be murder. For “Palestinian” leader will allow the jihadists use that land as a base to launch murderous rocked attacks in to Israel. As for example, Hamas of Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Such false hopes for peace which are based on the foundation of lies are nothing new when it comes to Israel . For example, the Bible in Psalm 55:20, 21. Reads “Such men do violence to those at peace with them and break their promised word; their speech is smoother the butter but their thoughts are of war.” [N.E.B.]
Walter Sieruk says
By Divine Right the Capital and heart of the Jewish State of Israel is in Jerusalem . Therefore it’s very appropriate that the US embassy should be moved to Jerusalem
Furthermore,It should be made known that the Muslim terror organizations, Hezbollah, Hamas ,P.I.J. etc. are all fated to fail in their Islamic agenda of destroying the State of Israel and replacing with Islamic “state.” The reason that they will lose in the end and lose hard is because the members of those jihad terror entities are striving against the Will of God. The members who compose those Islamic terror groups might be too ignorant to know this, nevertheless the truth is the God had given all this land that now composes the State of Israel, including all of the West Bank, to the Jewish people. This may be found in the Bible, as seen in, for example, Genesis 28:13-15. 35:10-12. Deuteronomy 32:48,49. Psalm 105:7-11. 135:4. In other words the Jews have tall this land by Divine Right. Furthermore, the Jewish people should have this land by historic rights as shown in First Kings 4:20,21, 24,25. 8:55, 56. Still, in all fairness, there is one way for the Muslim members who make up Hezbollah, Hamas and the P.I.J. to convince God to change His Mind about being so much for Israel and then cause Him to turn His back on Israel and then have that nation be no more. That way is for the members of the jihad origination to gather together and then change the laws of astrophysics, including those laws of astrophysics the control the sun, the moon and the stars. For God had declared in His Word, the Bible, in Jeremiah 31:35,36. “Thus saith the Lord, Who gives the sun for a light by day and the ordinances of the moon and stars for a light by night…The Lord of host is His name. If those ordinances depart from before Me, saith the Lord, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before Me forever.”
Ray Jarman says
The article has missed a few key points. One is that the Consulate in Jerusalem is more than capable of converting from a consulate to an embassy. The infrastructure is there to accommodate the exchange in both office space and communications. The difficulty will be to rehouse the embassy staff that would have to relocate, i.e., consulate staff bear different titles than the diplomats at an embassy and that could be handled in part over time a change of postings for the U.S. personnel. Unlike when U.S. Embassies have to purchase new land for office space for a move such as Nigeria where the Embassy was moved from Lagos to Abuja like in Australia when the Embassy was moved from Sydney to Canberra. Jerusalem is an exchange of locations for effected personnel.
Regarding the unwillingness of the Near Eastern Bureau at Foggy bottom, there is open animosity towards Israel. At the Consulate in Jerusalem, the Management Section had a coin created which displayed the Al-Aqsa Mosque as the center point viz. using something like the Holy Sepulchre or the many Jewish edifices in the beautiful city. Secretary of State Tillerson needs to clean out the anti-Semitic horde in the Truman Building.
One last point that I feel could be further highlighted is that if East Jerusalem were to be the capital of a Philistine (oops, Freudian slip) state, they would demand open borders to an embassy. Also, especially for the EU states that imprecate Israel about captured land when Deutschland has never had land confiscated by Belgium, France, Poland (to appease them due to the Soviets stealing Polish territory after WWII) as well as Denmark. Israel should not be treated differently, especially when after the 1948 war, all parties were invited to join the newly established state of Israel to which only the Druze accepted.

Explicitly, with the name, exactly zero times. When convenient to deny an obviously vile Muslim practice (like female genital mutilation), the apologists say “but it’s not mentioned in Quran.” But this time the same persons will surely claim that the other texts outside of Quran are enough of a proof.

S-G, agreed. Jerusalem is not a part of the Koran, and neither is Mecca in the opinion of many scholars, because Mohammed’s city was Petra.
Caliph Abd al Malik created Islam as replacement for Christianity and Judaism in their holy city as a crime of DOMINANCE.
Islam is all about DOMINANCE. Muslims want Jerusalem like the dog in the manger wanted the straw.
It is time to reverse this history of fear. Jerusalem is rather meaningless in the Islamic narrative and the Miraj’s connection with Jerusalem is known to be fake.

He is quoted thus in the most canonical hadith collection, Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 84, Hadith 57. See https://muflihun.com/bukhari/84/57
Various other canonical hadiths attest that Muhammad called for death to those who leave Islam. That’s why even today all the schools of Islamic law prescribe death for apostasy from Islam. See the David Wood video on this subject:

I see the foul lebel is now implying that the capital of Israel is a “Muslim country”, and that if we set up our embassy there that we are “invading” them.
In fact, the American embassy’s being in Tel Aviv rather than Jerusalem is notable for being *the sole example* of an American Embassy not located in the national capital. This should have changed long before this.
And then lebel defends savage Muslim violence in the wake of our peacefully moving our embassy to the capital. Just repulsive. *Ugh*.

I’m assuming you are referring to Iraq and/or Afghanistan.
If you are, then why exactly are those two places in chaos? It isn’t the US troops suicide bombing mosques, markets and everywhere else, is it?
The only reason there was even a hint of peace (skin deep only) was the harsh rule of a dictator. It remains to be seen if the warring islamic tribes can manage to stop killing each other without an overwhelming force to keep them relatively docile as before.
lebel says
Iraq was a relatively peaceful place and yes it was under the rule of a dictator but generally living standards were high and minorities were protected. Any Iraqi Christian will tell you that. The US invaded under false pretext and lies (such as Saddam and AQ working together) and now we have hundreds of thousands of dead and displaced.
I am not talking about Afghanistan, I actually think that was a legitimate war and I place the blame for chaos much more on jihadis. We have to be honest whether or not it supports our point.
eduardo odraude says
Remember that far and away most of the civilian deaths in Iraq were caused by jihadis indiscriminately killing civilians and blowing themselves up in crowds.

It’s very fitting proper that the United States of America move its embassy to Jerusalem which is the actual Capital of the Jewish State of Israel .It’s fitting because Jerusalem is the historic Capital of the ancient Israel .It’s proper because a large number of the Founding Fathers of the USA had much respect for the Bible and its teaching.

The Lord, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the human spirit within a person, declares: 2“I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. 3On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves. 4On that day I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness,” declares the Lord. “I will keep a watchful eye over Judah, but I will blind all the horses of the nations. 5Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, ‘The people of Jerusalem are strong, because the Lord Almighty is their God.’
6“On that day I will make the clans of Judah like a firepot in a woodpile, like a flaming torch among sheaves. They will consume all the surrounding peoples right and left, but Jerusalem will remain intact in her place.
7“The Lord will save the dwellings of Judah first, so that the honor of the house of David and of Jerusalem’s inhabitants may not be greater than that of Judah. 8On that day the Lord will shield those who live in Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the Lord going before them. 9On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem.

In terms of geo-political strategy, it’s hard to say, but such a move certainly feels good. One should not reward terror, or one will get more of it. On the other hand, if possible one should pick one’s battles. Let’s hope this battle is one of the right ones to pick. In favor of that view is the fact that Israel probably knows the region better than we do, so if they think it’s strategic, that judgement is perhaps the best bet.
Johnny Cuyana says
EO., regarding “picking one’s battles”: I agree with your point; however, aside from what appears on the face of this embassy move, I suspect it is NOT the full story from POTUS Trump and PM Netanyahu; that is, for them, this is just one tactic in the overall strategy. This is their “opening move”.
My general take: Trump and Netanyahu are, in a major way, rattling the cage of the PA … in the hopes that they will get serious about the peace process; as, obviously, over the many decades, little, if anything positive, has worked with these corrupt PA bullies.
For Israel, this is a “Reagan-Thatcher-Pope John Paul II” moment … which comes along only every 50-100 years; where, finally, Bibi is able to work with a USA President who has some balls … and is willing to call the PA’s bluff. Say what one may regarding the abilities and demeanor of Trump and Bibi, I do not see them as non-serious people; rather, I suspect that there is some greater cause and/or objective underlying this opening move.
My speculation: [1] USA-Israel are telling the PA “leadership” no more joking around; [2] that they understand the PA’s game and no longer are going to play; [3] that they are moving “forward” with this BOLD MOVES; [4] that the PA better get on board while the “getting is good” … because it ain’t going to get any better for them; and [5] that they will continue with additional initiatives until the PA screams “uncle”!
Basically, the purpose is, in the eyes of the Palestinians, to EMBARRASS the PA leadership; to show the entire world that the PA leadership is not even a paper tiger and is incapable of protecting its own positions … thereby, giving the Palestinians reason to seek a serious change in leadership; that is, toward electing some representation which will actually have some teeth in doing the people’s business. [The first step is in throwing out the pretenders.]
The PA, if anything, as seen countless times, is a bunch of COMMON BULLIES and nothing more! They respect ONLY strength — where they remain in power primarily by duping their own people and murdering those who get out of line — and the PA holds in contempt any and all persons or entities of weakness. [You want to see weakness? Look back at obama. Even though obama was on “their” side, what did it get him? They walked all over, with impunity, his sorry dhimmi ass … because the PA played along with him only to get the USA cash but they disrespected him and held him in contempt.]
The PA, for decades, has been playing the Western leaders for the fools which they are — Exhibit A, B, C and D are carter, Clinton, Bush and obama — where the PA has been willing to play this “parlor game” until the cows come home; where, every decade or so the PA leadership orchestrated some violent tactics in order to take another chunk out of Israel … while the corrupt and immoral PA continues to get RICH off the anti-Jewish bribes received from the all-too-eager EU and UN-guided corruptocrats.
Trump and Bibi, I suspect, have recognized this game for years and, simply stated, are no longer going to play it — neither are going to be the PA’s patsy; so much was made clear, for POTUS Trump, in his speech in Riyadh — rather, Trump and Bibi will coordinate their strategic moves — whether uni- or bilaterally — and sooner rather than later will put them into ACTION; where the embassy move is just the first big step.
Further, my suspicion is, if the above is indeed their general approach, then rather quickly the PA and the other ME dictatorships will understand what is going on — Trump and Bibi will refuse to be the weak horse — so, the dictators will scream and shout, whine and complain, and rattle their sabers, but, most likely, when they see that USA-Israel is not bluffing, they will fall into line … in some manner. Now, when, if ever, that will be and how they may fall into line, obviously, remain among the YUGE questions.
I can speculate like the next guy, but, I have no crystal ball so I am not predicting. Particularly, because, in the meantime, I keep in mind the several other ongoing dangerous ME plays which concern several major petro-entities; where, of course, the permutations, including the sparks between Israel and the PA, are endless.
LeftisruiningCanada says

Nothing, NOTHING, will stop Islamists from doing what they believe Allah has commanded them to do and think. It doesn’t matter whether you agree or disagree with their expectations and demands. It doesn’t matter whether you capitulate to terror or defend yourself against it. Muslims have been attacking, subjugating and killing people over their choice of religion for a very long time. And they never required a provocation to do it. If they claim they are acting in defense of their fellow Muslims when they murder innocent people it’s because they know almost every Western political leader will agree with them, at least publicly. They also know that these same leaders can be easily manipulated due to their ignorance of Islam and readiness to only believe good things about it. The situation would be exactly the same even if there weren’t any peaceful verses in the Quran, verses that Muslims know have been abrogated but also know they can use to their advantage. This power that Islamists have over so many Westerners is mirrored in the power they have over other Muslims. That’s because the Muslim terrorists, Islamists, “radical” imams and other devout followers of Islam have the truth about Islam on their side. To doubt them means doubting the words of Allah and the “authentic” words and actions of Muhammad. Thus Muslims have, and will always have, the view that humanity is divided into two categories; the House of Peace (Muslims) and the House of War (non-Muslims).
So putting the US embassy in Jerusalem will only give Muslims another excuse for terrorism, knowing full well that many non-Muslims, especially elected rulers and countless misguided liberals, will buy it.

It’s important to keep in mind the concept of “West Jerusalem” here, because the US Embassy will most likely be located there. The 1947 UN Partition plan proposed the Jerusalem be “internationalized” along with the establishment of an independent Jewish state and an independent Arab state. The Zionist movement accepted this but the Arabs did not and launched a multi-pronged war to destroy the newly born State of Israel. In that war, Jordan militarily conquered the eastern portion of the city, including the entire Old City containing Judaism’s most revered holy sites. The 1949 Armistice Line gave Israel control of West Jerusalem which even in leftist dreams will never be given over to the Arabs. The Arabs could have established a State of Palestine in the West Bank with East Jerusalem as its capital right then in 1949. They never did. In the meantime, Israel built their major government buildings and monuments in West Jerusalem, including the Knesset, the Israel Museum, the Supreme Court, the Mount Herzl military cemetery and the Yad Vashem national memorial. This is indeed the capital of Israel and finally someone has the courage to stand up to the Arabs and move their diplomatic embassy there. Even in leftists most naive dreams, a US embassy in West Jerusalem does not cancel the possibility of a second US Embassy for the Arabs in East Jerusalem…though we Zionists will never give up the Har Habayit ever again. The Arab threat of violence over this move is laughable, because if it would not be this, they would create a million other excuses to terrorize the world and pursue their Holy Jihad against non-Muslims.
Dov Berrol says
Of course, the other important chapter in the history of West Jerusalem happened in 1967. Israel had only pre-emptively attacked Egypt and Syria in a war of self-defense after all signs pointed to these countries planning to annihilate the Jews. Israel sent messages to Jordan’s King Hussein asking him to stay out of the conflict – but he did not and proceeded to attack West Jerusalem. Israel did the only thing it could do: fight back. And in so doing pushed the Jordanians out of East Jerusalem
and the rest of the West Bank of the Jordan River. So in order to keep West Jerusalem safe, Israel gave themselves a necessary buffer zone that now includes the holiest site in all of Judaism. The Arabs bet on violence twice and lost Jerusalem. Israel won fair and square.

Of COURSE there are going to be godawful repercussions with this.
The entire Islamic world is primed to throw a complete hissy fit the second that this is done. Erdogan, that idiot ‘King’ in Jordan, the Saudi’s – they’ve already come out and blustered on and on about how the USA recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel is just an extraordinary insult to all of them.
I note the Saudi’s are careful in not slamming the Israelis… Guess they still need the Israeli military far too badly when they start hitting Iran in earnest.
I honestly fear that this is going to light the fuse.
Frankly, I’m all for recognizing Jerusalem as the capital. I’m all for 100% loudly and proudly backing Israel. But there’s a reason why I am not a Politician, responsible for the lives of billions. Its easy for me to say this. I’m not the one making actual decisions with actual consequences in this particular matter.
If Trump really does do this, then we need the entire Western world to stand behind him, united. And the Western world needs to present a strongly united front to the Islamic world, in order to dampen any hot headed irrational behaviour from the Muslims.
None of this will happen. We all know it.
This decision could honestly, very well kick off the opening pot shots of the Iran/Saudi war – which as far as I can see, is absolutely going to grow and develop into a fully-fledged WW3 that will drag the entire species down. I have a really really really bad feeling about this one.

When you see the list of who opposes this move of the embassy to Jerusalem
1) State Department’s Near Eastern Affairs bureau, which deals with the region.

3) The European Union’s top Federica Mogherini
4) etc.,
it’s all of the more reason to support it.
