Gitmo prisoners demand release due to Trump’s “anti-Muslim bias”

Jan 16, 2018 7:00 am By Christine Douglass-Williams

Eleven accused jihadists held at the U.S. military detention center in Guantánamo, Cuba have petitioned a federal court to end their alleged indefinite imprisonment, citing U.S. President Donald Trump’s “anti-Muslim bias” as grounds for their request.

Among the jihadists in Guantanamo are those who “have murdered – or been trained to murder – hundreds or even thousands of innocent people,” not to mention their assaults upon innocents. But to them, it does not matter what they did and how serious their crimes were. They want out because of a perceived “Islamophobia” from Trump.

Of the 41 detainees still held at Gitmo, authorities have deemed 26 to be “forever prisoners,” or too dangerous to release.

According to a 2015 report by the Director of National Intelligence, over 100 prisoners released from Gitmo returned to their jihadist mission when they were let out. Others were suspected of returning, and many could not be located. In addition, they “routinely communicate with each other, families of other former detainees, and previous associates who are members of terrorist organizations.”

The demands of Islamic supremacists — such as the Gitmo prisoners petitioning for their release — will only increase as they continue to be emboldened. They have managed to convince many Westerners of the supremacy of Muslims, making them believe that they must be given preferential treatment regardless of the circumstances, or else face charges of “Islamophobia.”

An update on this story. “Guantánamo Prisoners Demand Release Due to Trump’s ‘Anti-Muslim Bias’”, by Edwin Mora, Breitbart, January 15, 2018:

Eleven accused jihadists held at the U.S. military detention center in Guantánamo, Cuba have petitioned a federal court to end their alleged indefinite imprisonment, citing U.S. President Donald Trump’s “anti-Muslim bias” as grounds for their request.

In the petition filed on January 11, which marked the 16th anniversary of the arrival of the first detainees to the prison, the inmates argue that Trump’s “suspicion and antipathy” towards Muslims is fueling his pledge to keep all remaining 41 captives locked up, reports the Guardian.

The inmates reportedly quote medical experts who have argued that prolonged indefinite imprisonment at the facility, commonly known as Gitmo, amounts to psychological torture.

“Prisoners are medicated for depression and anxiety brought on by acute despair,” they write.

The Guardian reports:

The inmates are basing their challenge on two legal points. They claim that indiscriminate indefinite detention is illegal under the due process clause of the US constitution.

The second argument is that the justification for never-ending detention under the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) was that it was needed to prevent committed enemies of the US returning to the battlefield. But the petitioners claim that justification has begun to unravel.

Although the accused jihadists argue that since Trump became president, there has been “open hostility to transferring any detainees,” the Associated Press (AP) learned last month that the new administration is considering releasing detainees “on a case-by-case basis.”

Tara Rigler, a spokeswoman for the White House National Security Council, acknowledged that the prison will “remain an available option in the war on terrorism.”

Of the 41 detainees still held at Gitmo, authorities have deemed 26 to be “forever prisoners,” or too dangerous to release.

Referring to the “forever prisoners,” the AP reported they “could potentially be reviewed and added to the cleared list.”

Citing the new motion filed by the 11 prisoners in a federal court in Washington, the Guardian reports:

Some of the petitioners in the new filing have themselves been held on the Cuban base almost since the beginning; others have been detained for 10 years. None of them has ever been charged, and all know that unless the courts intervene they could remain in their cells until they die.

In a memorable phrase, they say that “the aura of forever hangs heavier than ever”.

The parole-style Periodic Review Board (PRB) established by former President Barack Obama, who failed to keep his campaign promise to shut down Gitmo, approved five of the 41 prisoners for transfer.

U.S. military commissions have charged ten detainees, which includes some jihadists who are awaiting a death penalty tribunal for their alleged role in the 9/11/2001 terror attacks against the U.S.

The remaining 26 are considered “forever prisoners.” Obama met resistance from Congress when he attempted to close Gitmo, but the former president himself signed into law a bill that prevented him from carrying out his proposal to shut down the facility.

Obama did manage to gradually reduce the prison population from 242 prisoners held at the time he took office in early 2009 to 41 now.

However, George W. Bush released more prisoners than Obama during his tenure — more than 500…..

So let me get this right. They are basing the grounds for their immediate release on their belief that they’re incarceration is due to Trumps anti Muslim stance? So it’s nothing to do with the barbarically heinous anti Christian, anti Jewish, anti Hindu, anti Sikh etc murderous crimes they’ve committed on everyone not Muslim then?
It really does beggar belief how insane these idiots are! But then again, talking about insane idiots, I wonder how long it will be before the loony liberal left starts to champion their cause with violent demonstrations, and scenes of dramatic shows of crocodile tears and forced wailing? Not to mention the liberal use of the words ‘racists’ and ‘Islamophobes’, all washed down with a good dose of ‘bigots’ and ‘nazi’s’, not to mention their latest word weapon ‘hate’. Everything is now a ‘hate’ crime in their eyes, if anyone opposes them The fact that these barbaric Muslim heathens are in jail is BECAUSE of their ‘hate’ crimes, is neither here nor there where the lefties are concerned. They are that insane!
You can just see it all can’t you? Antifa at the front, followed by BLM placards. They’re so pathetically predictable.

As for Trump? Well done! Keep it up!! We’re all with you (well, us sane ones are anyway).

Years ago I thought that the USA committed a crime against human rights for detention in Guantanamo. Time has opened my eyes … those who are there are monsters. One of them was a Moroccan Spanish nationality. The Spanish Government claimed the USA and the prisoner came to Spain. A couple of years ago he was arrested for being the leader of a terrorist cell that recruited Jihadists to go to Syria, urged to attack in Spain (they planned to put bombs in the parliament of Catalonia) and raised money in the largest mosque in Madrid for the jihad Of course, no Muslim said anything, they all denied that they knew that this money was for jihad … they say that they thought it was zakat … for poor Muslims. To this day the Spanish prisons have hundreds of Moroccan jihadists … I wish Spain had a Guantanamo to send the jihadists there.

Yes–many of those freed from Gitmo have gone on to murder more innocent people in the name of Jihad.

Nice, glad you followed that story and found some truth.

USA isn’t perfect, but they have imprisoned people in gitmo that need to be kept off the streets.

If only Canada would stop giving them back pay when they get out!

Bev, that old saying is applicable and I was thinking of what one of my soldiers told the colonel in charge of the division communications center. The young sergeant was asked if he did not think that a haircut was over due and he told the colonel, “Sir, I have learned to live without a lot of things I once thought necessary.” to which the colonel remarked that Roger got him and laughed but the sergeant went and had his hair cut that very same day. I also noticed that the Guardian as usual had to add something derogatory about President Bush setting three hundred free but forgot to mention that they were considered the least dangerous but a thirty percent recidivism rate was bad but not as bad as Hussein return was. Also the article neglected to mention that the international terrorists, including the Taliban are still at war with the US and those incarcerated are prisoners of war.

Since ISIS has lost 98% of its territory, the majority of that on Trump’s watch, I don’t see what use these Gitmo detainees really have anymore.

So give them a pork coffin and be done with them

Dan, most of these Jihadists preceded the rise of ISIS. ISIS is not the only Jihad terror group.

Yeah, Gitmos so bad, they have to put up with cheap soccer balls and poor quality rain/sun tarps over their outdoor seating area.

    Give me a break.

An average prison in any islamic nation is likely way worse that this, and you can read accounts of ‘guests’ held in prisons in India or Thailand that would make your skin crawl.

But of course, only the USA does bad things. Only they are the real nasties in the world. I bet there are people visiting JW that really do believe that the USA is using super high technology torture techniques like the BIg Bad Pan Galactic overlords do in silly scifi novels, while keeping the outside looking civilized for journalists to photograph. Anything, ANYTHING, to avoid having to question their own death loving Lefitism or Islam.
