Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Indonesia: Christian whipped 36 times for selling alcohol and violating Sharia

Jan 20, 2018 2:00 pm By Robert Spencer

Islamic apologists in the West like to compare Sharia to Jewish law and Catholic Canon Law. When was the last time you heard of anyone being whipped for violating either one of those?

Sharia forbids not just the consumption of alcohol, but its sale as well. A hadith depicts Muhammad saying: “Verily Allah, the Exalted, has forbidden wine. So who hears this verse and he has anything of it with him, he should neither drink it nor sell it.” (Sahih Muslim 3835)

“Christian man whipped 36 times for selling alcohol and violating Sharia law,” by Lloyd Johnson, Express, January 19, 2018:

A MAN was flogged in a brutal public punishment for selling alchohol [sic] in violation of Sharia law in Indonesia as he was whipped 36 times.

Jono Simbolon, an Indonesian Christian was sentenced to 36 lashes with a rattan stick.

The punishment was so brutal that a doctor checked his health after 10 stokes, before allowing the flogging to continue.

Simbolon was arrested in October, in the northern Indonesian province of Aceh, for selling alcohol, in violation of Islamic law. He is only the third non-Muslim to suffer a public whipping.

Despite being a part of the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country, Aceh is Indonesia’s only province that implements Islamic law.

Simbolon was one of 10 people, including eight men and two women, convicted after Friday prayers.

He was sentenced alongside people accused of crimes that included pimping, prostitution and gambling.

Chief prosecutor Erwin Desman said Simbolon may have chosen caning in order to avoid lengthy criminal prosecution.

Aceh, located on Sumatra island, is 98 percent Muslim and enforces Islamic law known locally as Qanun….

There have been thousands of churches attacked by the muslims for decades in Indonesia. And everything is swept under the rug.

So Indonesia is NOT an example of democratic Islam. And frankly, I don’t believe there is any example of a democratic Islam anywhere, except when the muslim population is only a very small fraction of the whole population.

The Koran the eternal word of Allah from a holy tablet in Heaven is full of contradictions. There are Koranic surahs that only forbid showing up drunk for prayers. So like many Mohammedan laws it is based on the Hadiths or traditions of Muhammad.

Mark Durie in “The Third Choice” (authored along with Bat Ye’or)
pointed out that over vast areas under Caliphates and Islamic controlled territories
the Dhimmis have been persecuted, belittled, and debased throughout history of Islam’s reach.

Ritually the punishments and even the tributes (such as handing over jizya payment) are in the form
of reward to the Muslim overlords, and a denigrating experience for the Dhimmi who assumes the body
position simulating being executed: either by beheading or throat slitting.

    Islam is lame
and is a “Religion” of Pieces….

cut by whack by slit by slice by hack by gash by slash….

Bunch of sadists. Perfect ideology for psychopaths to believe in.

MUSLIM DESTRUCTION OF CHURCHES IN INDONESIA – ILLEGAL

In December 2011, a second church in Bogor, West Java was ordered to halt its activities by the local mayor. Another Catholic church had been built there in 2005. Previously a Christian church, GKI Taman Yasmin, had been sealed. Local authorities refused to lift a ban on the activities of the church, despite an order from the Supreme Court of Indonesia. Local authorities have persecuted the Christian church for three years. While the state has ordered religious toleration, it has not enforced these orders.

In Aceh Province, the only province in Indonesia with autonomous Islamic Shari’a Law, 20 churches in Singkil Regency face threat of demolition due to gubernatorial decree requires the approval of 150 worshippers, while the ministerial decree also requires the approval of 60 local residents of different faiths. On 30 April 2012, all the 20 churches (17 Protestant churches, 2 Catholic churches and one place of worship belonging to followers of a local nondenominational faith) have been closed down by order, from the Acting Regent which also ordered members of the congregations to tear down the churches by themselves. Most of the churches slated for demolition were built in the 1930s and 1940s. The regency has 2 churches open, both built after 2000.

  6. PRCS says

In fairness, most Indonesian Muslims practice a warm, fuzzy, phony version of Islam. Cafeteria Muslims, if you will.

Those in Banda Aceh, on the other hand, do not.

A significant problem in discussing that with Indonesia’s warm and fuzzy crowd is the refusal to publicly admit that (1) their pick and choose “version” of Islam is blasphemous, and that (2) the “version” practiced in Banda Aceh is much closer to the Islam of Qur’an and Sunn’ah than theirs.

In a weeks long Twitter conversation with a very intelligent, worldly, 40 something Indonesian Muslim woman I was told that jihadists are “terrorists”, that she was unfamiliar with FGM, and other obfuscatory nonsense.

    • Ray Jarman says

      Jan 20, 2018 at 5:23 pm

PRCS, you are correct. In 1974 while being posted I dated an Indonesian lady who was working in Deutschland as a nurse. During the world cup, she and other Indonesian friends would go to a gasthaus for a few drinks and watch a soccer match and since her country had been colonized by Holland and they felt close to the Dutch we were happy every time Johan Cruyff scored. Later we went to Djakarta, not to be confused with Jakarta, to meet her family and we had a great time. She would perform her obligatory prayers and even though she was beautiful, I never got closer than a light kiss on the cheek. I don’t know if things have changed in her home village but the people there were extremely gracious and no one spoke about religion.

I am aware of the crimes against Christians villages, mostly on islands other than Java, over the years. The incident in Aceh upsets me especially since a lot of Christians donated a large amount of money after the tsunami destroyed almost everything they had and this is the thanks.

      • Baucent says

        Jan 21, 2018 at 5:40 am

I’ve heard from contacts who visit Aceh that most of the development projects churches and mission groups funded, including the building of houses after the tsunami, have now been destroyed by Muslim Acehnese who oppose the idea that the Christians have given them anything. It’s a shame but that’s the mentality of these people.

          Jan 21, 2018 at 7:55 pm

Thanks. Bausent, I was not aware of what you pointed out about the ingratitude. The next time there is a major disaster, I think we should let every one of them die.

Christians have been oppressed and threatened in Indonesia for a long time. It has not always been quite as bad as in other Muslim hell holes, but that is not saying much.

Whipping is a primitive punishment for this offense, but to this day, there are counties in the U.S. that are “dry” and do not allow alcohol to be sold, giving offenders hefty fines and jail time. In fact, about 100 years ago, the majority of the U.S. wanted to be “dry” and voted for Prohibition. If an area bans alcohol, then people need to either move or respect the law. It makes Christianity look bad when Christians sell alcohol illegally.

It’s pretty rough when it’s your ancestral home and it gets taken over by sharia, which begins by applying only to the muslims but is then applied to you. It wouldn’t be suprising to learn that he had been running a liquor store openly for years, and then one day the mullahs decided he should be punished for it.

        • LeftisruiningCanada says

          Jan 22, 2018 at 1:26 am

When you look at muslim countries on a general level, they always drink. Not each individual, but in general, muslims always drink alcohol.

Anyone with any power (army generals, police chiefs, politicians etc) has a way to get hold of alcohol for his parties. It’s part of what makes him powerful, being able to offer alcohol to his guests, and lower down subordinates he’s trying to get more personal control over.

What you said about him could be correct. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some offense given to the wrong person, who then had him punished like this to teach him a lesson.

Malaysia and Singapore more successful than Indonesia, because only 60% (In Malaysia) and 14% (In Singapore) of the population is Muslim opposed to 87% in Indonesia. Saudi Arabia has been pouring money into Malaysia for decades, a consequence of which is the recent shift in Malaysia toward the hard-line Islam of Saudi Arabia. Singapore has an increasing Muslim population. Across SE Asia, Islam is on the march.
