Bravo. Money is fungible. This is $65 million that the “Palestinians” won’t have to give to jihad terrorists.
“Haley wanted a complete cutoff in U.S. money until the Palestinians resumed peace talks with Israel that have been frozen for years. But Tillerson, Mattis and others argued that ending all assistance would exacerbate instability in the Mideast, notably in Jordan…”
Haley is right. Everything we do to oppose the jihad will “exacerbate instability in the Mideast.” This veiled threat has guided U.S. policy in the region for far too long. Essentially it amounts to bowing to violent intimidation, which only encourages more violent intimidation.
“US withholds $65 million from Palestinian aid programs,” by Matthew Lee, Associated Press, January 16, 2018:
WASHINGTON — The Trump administration on Tuesday cut tens of millions of dollars in money for Palestinian refugees, demanding that the U.N. agency responsible for the programs undertake a “fundamental re-examination,” the State Department said.
In a letter, the State Department notified the U.N. Relief and Works Agency that the U.S. is withholding $65 million of a planned $125 million funding installment to the body. The letter also makes clear that additional U.S. donations will be contingent on major changes by UNRWA, which has been heavily criticized by Israel.
“We would like to see some reforms be made,” said State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert, adding that changes are needed both to the way the agency operates and is funded. “This is not aimed at punishing anyone.”
The State Department said it was releasing the rest of the installment — $60 million — to prevent the agency from running out of cash by the end of the month and closing down.
The U.S. is UNWRA’s largest donor, supplying nearly 30 percent of its budget. The agency focuses on providing health care, education and social services to Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians either fled or were forced from their homes during the war that led to Israel’s establishment in 1948. Today, there are an estimated 5 million refugees and their descendants, mostly scattered across the region.
The U.S. donated $355 million to UNWRA in 2016 and was set to make a similar contribution in this year; the first installment was to have sent this month. But after a highly critical Jan. 2 tweet from Trump on aid to the Palestinians, the State Department opted to wait for a formal policy decision before sending its first installment.
Trump’s tweet expressed frustration over the lack of progress in his attempts to broker peace between Israel and the Palestinians, and he pointed the finger at the Palestinians. “We pay the Palestinians HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS a year and get no appreciation or respect,” he said. “But with the Palestinians no longer willing to talk peace, why should we make any of these massive future payments to them?”
Israelis accuse the U.N. agency of contributing to Palestinian militancy and allowing its facilities to be used by militants. They also complain that some of UNRWA’s staff are biased against Israel….
The U.S. plan to withhold some, but not all, of the money was backed by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Defense Secretary James Mattis, who offered it as a compromise to demands for more drastic measures by U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, officials said.
Haley wanted a complete cutoff in U.S. money until the Palestinians resumed peace talks with Israel that have been frozen for years. But Tillerson, Mattis and others argued that ending all assistance would exacerbate instability in the Mideast, notably in Jordan, a host to hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees and a crucial U.S. strategic partner….

Just think if we had not given away all those trillions of dollars , say in the last 40 years would our national debt be out of control?
I do realise America is the richest country in the world but that still should not make us the world’s Welfare Agency. I do donate to what is considered needy organizations but I investigate them as much as I can to find out how much donated dollars are actually used for intended purposes…but I don’t give till I have to borrow to maintain my own lifestyle….Seems like the U.S. Isn’t following my practice.
There is probably an easy way yo find out just how many dollars we give away each year to foreign countries but I don’t know it. Can anyone out there let us here on JW know?

Apparently not.
They haven’t shown any for the hordes of muslim migrant invaders (Oops… I mean “Syrian refugees”) flowing north into Europe (I mean “fleeing” their war-torn homeland).
Last I checked, SA -leading the charge for the rest of the noble Gulf states, hadn’t accepted one of these so-called “refugees” or “asylum seekers”, with the exception, purportedly, of Jordan.
Many of them cited the risk of terrorism for their lack of compassion and hospitality.
But remember the goal of spreading islam?I wonder if their decision had anything to do with that?
SA killed both of those birds with one stone by doing nothing. Expect the same here. And you can’t really blame them; I mean, the “refugees” of the war of 1948? You’d think those who are not dead of old age should have been able to get their sh*t together by now.
Please- Gimme a break on the “refugee” BS already!

I predict many people will write in praise of Ambassador Haley and wondering how Tillerson and Mattis can be so ________(what words fit?) in milktoast half measures with people who kill US citizens and Jews at every opportunity. This kind of appeasement promoted Hitler’s march to WWII, the death of (who knows?) 50 to 70 million people, the economic destruction of much of the world, and the takeover of Communism that continues today. Until the “negotiating partners” declare an end, once and for all, to their 1400 year commitment to murder, slavery and death to Jews, the United States should not contribute toward their murderous campaign, in any form. Contrast Israel with the “Palestinians” to see what 70 years of effort to progress looks like against 70 years of murder and plans for more murder. Who deserves assistance? Jews are taught about 8 levels of charity, tzedekah (sp?). The highest level of charity is done by means of a loan or gift that makes the recipient self supporting. Where do the “Palestinians” make any effort toward peace and self-support. Instead they spend all their effort making war against Israel and the rest of us who do not want to “convert, submit or die.” I hope some day intellectual zombies will get tired of supporting collaborators in the destruction of our liberties. But cheers and great respect are due to Ambassador Haley for her stand. And to the President for at least doing a half-measure instead of the usual nothing.

My understanding is that they, the Palestinian leaders) withhold the foreign aid or/ and sakat (charitble giving that Obama -reestablished his first year) to pay the families of terrorists and military supplies and medial compliance etc.The peace never comes if we fund terror….. that is the dilemma of the middle east, the goal is to drive out Christians and Jews…and we should not aid them in that mission since they want to drive out Israel and the U.S. from our land.
Frank Anderson says
U.C., I do not see a dilemma. To me, and maybe only to me, a dilemma is a choice of doing nor not doing something that otherwise makes no sense to accomplish something you know cannot be accomplished; but you (in a generic sense and not you personally) do it anyway because of the false hope of appeasement of the aggressor. Churchill saw the inevitability of a fight, while Chamberlain was so full of himself that he refused to see what was in front of him. I frequently mention Viktor Frankl’s “delusion of reprieve” which he described in Man’s Search for Meaning.
The “delusion of reprieve” was used by Nazi death camp inmates to survive from 1 day to the next the horror around them. Some hoped for rescue. Some hoped to re-unite with loved ones. Some hoped for justice. Some, like Frankl, hoped to learn why people did not give up and commit suicide simply by stepping across a wire. Now, we are not in a death camp unless it is one of our own making. We can still resist and win against 1400 years of evil, if we have the knowledge and will.
Instead of a dilemma, I think we are dealing with mass cowardice, deliberate ignorance and laziness. Acknowledging that islam corresponds to evil; that the expected one in islam corresponds to the anti-Christ item for item, test for test; and that the muslim concept of God corresponds to the Christian and Jewish description of Satan, commands attention and action, which requires commitment that liberals, collaborators and generally slothful people lack.
The historical parallel that I cannot escape is the Jews in Nazi Germany who heard Hitler from his first public speech in 1920 on, who saw what he wrote in Mein Kampf and had written in all Nazi propaganda, and witnessed or suffered the violence more than a decade before the “official” beginning of the Holocaust failed to understand. Half of them got out, Half of them stayed. How similar is it now with the muslim conquest in progress? What am I missing? What do you think?
Lu says
“This kind of appeasement promoted Hitler’s march to WWII, the death of (who knows?) 50 to 70 million people, the economic destruction of much of the world, and the takeover of Communism that continues today.”
That’s a darn good synopsis of what is going on now, rooted in the 80-year-old past – in other words, how the appeasement of the 1930’s reverberates in the 2010’s.
You are not missing anything, Sir. You are spot on. My only comment is the one I notoriously repeat: this thing ain’t gonna end well – a major conflict is inescapable. How we in the West will fare in it, only God knows …
Frank Anderson says
LU, I cannot think of an example in history where a head-to-head, life and death conflict ended well. How many people died from the birth of the “Soviet Union” during WWI to the fall of the Berlin Wall? TENS of millions. When a group not only declares war but wages it without interruption for 1400 years with every available weapon, it is not kidding and looking for a “diplomatic solution”. It is looking for and actually conducting slaughter of HUNDREDS of millions. How many more? “There is no free lunch.”

I don’t think I am missing the collaborators. They were present all over Europe and the Soviet Union by the tens of thousands before and during WWII, and are present by the hundreds of thousands now. It is possible, in my opinion, to see at least a parallel in vampire movies of the familiars who wish to be promoted to vampires, and the collaborators who fall all over themselves to mislead “infidels” and support the conquest. “Those who cannot remember. . .” Until the “vampires” are recognized for what they are and the danger they comprise, most people will remain oblivious until it is too late. What do you think?

OK, by now even the commies (Die Linke) and the socialists (SPD) are getting cold feet. Just them? Nope, there is Augstein too! Yes, Jakob Augstein, the, errrrgh, person who inherited and wrecked “Der Spiegel”. Problem is that Stasi-Kahane’s thirst for persecution of non-lefts/non-antifas knows no bounds. Believe it or not (IT’S TRUE!!!), some of Anetta’s (STASI handle = Victoria) internet witch finders fixed a couple of hate posts and fake news – belonging to her boss and financier Heiko Maas. Whoops! Accounts were of course re-instated shortly afterwards. Incidentally, since Jan 2018, when the law came into force, there have been approx 60,000 hate=speech and fake-news denunciations.

The “Palestinians” in those days were the Jews, it was Arabs who left and fled during the war and the only reason there are so many “refugees” now is that they can bequeath the status of “refugee” to their descendants – again, an apartheid state inapplicable to any other refugee on the planet.

carpediadem says Jan 16, 2018 at 9:31 pm Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians either fled or were forced from their homes REALLY?
Palestine is NOT an Arabic word, place nor people.
The proper plural, פלשתימ (Philistines), occurs all over the Bible.
In two cases a special plural, פלשתיימ (Philistinians) is used: In [1 Chronicles 14:10] and [Amos 9:7].
NAME Philistines: Roman Emperor Hadrian in 135 A.D cursed the Jews of Israel saying: Judea is the land of the Philistines.
On Al-Hekma TV on March 23, 2012: Hamas Minister of the Interior and of N.S. Fathi Hammad, admitted: Palestinians are invented people, (Egyptians, Saudis, Jordanians, Syrians, etc). When we seek their help, it is to continue Jihad.)
Half my family is Egyptian. We are all like that. 1/2 people in the Gaza Strip are Al-Masri [Egyptian] – (see Memri TV).

I suspect he’s been doing the sums – or getting someone else to do them and report back to him – and reaching the conclusion: we’ve been pouring money down a rat-hole and not getting anything back at all except more jihad. Soooo – STOP pouring money down the rat-hole. Stop throwing good money after bad. All that money would be MUCH more productive if invested *at home*, and used to benefit ordinary Americans.
So far the ‘palestinians’ (including UNWRA) and slimy, sinister Islamic Pakistan have been put on notice, so to speak, for a cut in funds (and let’s hope the cut is a first step toward… total cessation of what is basically jizya, money extorted by means of the threat of Jihad if you don’t pay up).
But here’s hoping that a slew of other Islamic entities – not excluding the Abominable House of Saud, and rapidly-going-jihad Turkey which ought NOT to be in NATO any more, and Islamic Jordan which is sheltering the murderous Tamimi b*tch who skites about her role in the human-bombing of the Sbarro pizzeria in Israel, and Islamic Egypt which is winking at the ongoing Muslim murdering of Copts – are *also* on a list that the President intends to work his way through, one by one by one.
Cut them all off, that should be the aim. No. more. jizya. No. more. ‘tribute’ from the infidel USA to any of the whining, threatening, goodcop-badcop-playacting Mohammedan mobsters and extortionists. Cut the bastards off; bring down a ten-tonne hammer on them every time they try to attack. Hold their despots responsible for every attack engaged in by jihad gangs arising from within their territory.
And… one hopes that this money-aware President is sooling some seriously-clever people onto the *money trails*, to start exposing the Money Jihad that the OIC is waging within non-Islamic countries to buy power of various kinds.
In Australia we’ve all been made aware, recently, of the use of ‘soft power’ by the totalitarian oligarchs of communist China, to infiltrate and subvert. But it is the OIC’s similar tactics – bankrolled by squillions in petrodollars – that needs to be subjected to searing and ruthless scrutiny, all over the west… and also beyond the west, in places like the Christian-majority countries of Africa. Qatar, Bahrain, Iran, the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia – all moneyed-up Muslim entities are *sure* to be up to their ears in this sort of thing. Time for their buying-up of assets within the dar al Harb, their propaganda war, their corrupting and pressuring (and, very likely, blackmailing) of political and academic figures, to be exposed to the light.

Rule of thumb: Until a majority of Muslim-majority nations become real liberal democracies with real freedom of religion and freedom of speech, stop immigration of Muslims into non-Muslim nations, so far as possible. But be politically smart about it: design a policy that has the intended effect but that never mentions Islam or Muslims. Otherwise the policy is likely to be defeated politically or in the courts.

In the same way that this is supposed to have helped Germany and France and Sweden and Belgium, to name but a few. “The U.S. is UNWRA’s largest donor, supplying nearly 30 percent of its budget.”
$60 million cut from a planned $355 million for –roughy 16% cut — is disappointingly small
As many have noted in this thread, why should the United States be funding UNRWA, or the Palestine Authority, at all? Hamas has stored weapons at UNRWA schools in Gaza; UNRWA personnel have a long history of being not disinterested dispensers of aid but, rather, apologists for, and collaborators with, “Palestinian” jihadis, including the PLO and Hamas. The scandal has lasted for
Why is the United States contributing 30% of the UNRWA budget? If the “Palestinians” are to receive aid –some of which aid simply frees up other sums for the Palestine Authority o support, very generously, the families of imprisoned terrorists, and the terrorists themselves, once they’ve been freed, are guaranteed lifetime support, and the worse the atrocities they have committed, and the longer their sentences, the more they receive. The sums received are far greater than the amounts “Palestinians” ordinarily would be paid for regular work.
If the Arabs want to make up for the loss of American support for the “Palestinians” no one is stopping them. Last I heard, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar had hundreds of billions of dollars available; why doesn’t UNRWA go them, hat in hand, singing a verse of “Arab brother — can you spare a dime? Is it because they want the West to keep funding UNRWA as a token of its supposed guilt in the creation of the Jewish state (actually, it was the Jews who built and repeatedly defended their state, with very little help from anyone). The “Palestinians” and other Arabs seem to think it is their right to receive a version of jizyah from the Americans and other non-Muslims.
It is lunacy for the Americans and other Westerners to support a group of Muslim Arabs whose main reason for being is not to build anything — look at the mess in Gaza, look at the colossal corruption in the “Palestine Authority”in the West Bank– but to destroy the Jewish state.
There is no need to give either the “Palestine Authority” or UNRWA– each corrupt in its own way — any more American money. The fear expressed that if the Americans were to cut all aid this would “exacerbate instability” — especially in Jordan — is much exaggerated. More money to the “Palestinians” means more money to support terrorists and their families — that is the only”instability” that should worry us. Besides, the Saudis and other Gulf Arabs should be more nervous than the Americans about any possible instability in Jordan; they have a vested interest in keeping Abdullah in power, lest his overthrow should strengthen anti-monarchical forces elsewhere. King Abdullah should be able to make up from the Gulf Arabs any loss of American support for UNRWA or the “Palestine Authority.” And in any case, what would that “instability” really consist of? Riots against King Abdullah, which he would suppress as his father did Black September, but this time with possible support from Saudi Arabia and the Emirates? We should welcome, not deplore, and certainly not think we have an obligation to prevent by handing over large sums of money, a Jordanian-“Palestinian” clash.
Ending all aid to UNRWA, and declaring that the only “refugees” are those who left Israel in 1947-49 (some Arabs fled in late 1947, before hostilities began, to get out of the way of invading Arab armies, and assuming they would soon return). Those people are now close to 70 years old. There cannot be more than a few thousand of them still alive.(And we need to point out that there were far more Jewish refugees who fled Arab lands for Israel than there were Arabs who left Israel in 1948-49). The children and grandchildren of refugees are not themselves refugees; it is not an inheritable trait except, apparently, for those “Palestinian” refugees we hear so much about. Henry Kissinger was a German Jewish refugee; his children are not. Vladimir Nabokov was a Russian refugee. His son was not. The same criteria must apply to the “Palestinian” refugees. The child of an Arab who left Halfa in 1948, and who was born, say, in Lebanon or Jordan or Egypt, is not a refugee, no matter how often Arab propaganda insists that he is – which is how the preposterous figure of “five million “Palestinian” refugees arose in the first place.. That should not be forgotten.
