Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

UK morning show feature of children’s book about terrorism sparks outrage

Jan 25, 2018 4:54 am By Christine Douglass-Williams

A book aimed at teaching five-year-olds about terrorism sparked outrage today – as parents demanded: “Let kids be kids”.

Good Morning Britain viewers were horrified by Carole Lieberman’s cartoon-style guide which features an image of a masked jihadi with a Kalashnikov and a suicide vest.

The US psychologist Lieberman defends her work by saying that “children are already anxious about terror attacks and her book can help parents reassure them.”

What is striking about this story is that the West has reached the point that such a feature would even make its way to a morning news program in the UK. It demonstrates a kind of ‘normalization’ of jihad terror.

One parent referred to age-appropriate learning as being important, stating that you don’t use picture books to teach children about all murderers and pedophiles, so why do it about jihadi terrorists? Other viewers agreed with Lieberman.

While Lieberman’s concept is somewhat bizarre, even more bizarre is Western society’s tolerance of the jihad against it. Europe and Canada sees no problem in carelessly ushering in jihadists on the welcome mat of suicidal immigration policy. Canada’s Prime Minister has invited “ISIS travellers” to come right in and be reintegrated.

Interesting is the question of why Good Morning Britain featured Dr Lieberman and her book, considering the pervasive concern about “Islamophobia”: was it to boost ratings? An intentional attempt to ridicule and castigate her? Or to highlight the real sentiments of citizens in an era of jihad threats? The program likely achieved all of the above.

Food for thought: Palestinian children are taught on PA TV and at summer camps about the merits of waging jihad against Israelis. In this book, non-Muslim children in the UK are taught to run from jihadis.

“Good Morning Britain viewers outraged as author reveals children’s book about TERRORISM”, by Felix Allen, Sun, January 24, 2018:

A BOOK aimed at teaching five-year-olds about terrorism sparked outrage today – as parents demanded: “Let kids be kids”.

Good Morning Britain viewers were horrified by Carole Lieberman’s cartoon-style guide which features an image of a masked jihadi with a Kalashnikov and a suicide vest.

Her book Lions And Tiger And Terrorists, Oh My!, aimed at children aged five to 14, has a cover featuring frightened children in a hot air balloon flying away from the burning Twin Towers.

Inside it calls Osama bin Laden the “most famous terrorist” and offers tips including that kids should take vitamin pills so they are “fit and strong” and can run away from terrorists.

Parents were outraged after the author plugged the book on GMB this morning and a headteacher called it “lunacy”.

The US psychologist says children are already anxious about terror attacks and her book can help parents reassure them.

But Lynette Rook said on Twitter: “The author is totally wrong, let kids be kids for god sake.”

Elaine Revell said: “Five year old children have enough to worry about just growing up!

“Let them be children I’m sure when they get older they will learn all about the horrible things in the world!”

Matt tweeted: “How ridiculous! We have always had terrorism in the UK for years, we could also give children books to warn them of murder, paedophiles and violence?!

“Stick to Peter Rabbit and let children enjoy life whilst they have the chance.”

It sparked outrage on Twitter where viewers called the author ‘a joke’.

Parents said ‘let kids be kids’ and exposing them to scary ideas could harm them.

Joanne said: “That woman is a joke!! If kids take their vitamins they can run away faster!! Omg like!”

However Simon Miller said: “I think it’s a great idea and kids are never too young to learn about this subject.”

Chantelle Waring‏ tweeted: “It’s in our communities and on the news on a regular basis..how do we keep it away from them?

“It’s becoming the norm! We teach them the dangers of strangers so why not terrorism?”

Danielle S‏ said: “Completely agree with this book. Parents and teachers should judge which parts to teach. This headteacher is in denial!!!”

Dr Lieberman claims terrorism is “the birds and the bees talk of the 21st century” and parents should confront it head-on.

She said on GMB: “It is a fact of life that parents do feel awkward talking to children about.

The subject sparked a debate with some parents in favour.

Naomi Salmon said the book teaches kids about ‘the world we live in’.

Other parents said it would help explain the issue to their children
“Children know a lot more about terrorism than parents and teachers want to recognise. A lot of adults are in denial.

“I talk about, for example, a terrorist is like the bully in the playground. I talk about it in language that is for children.

“It’s much better for children to hear about it from their parent or teacher than to be watching television and see all of this violence.”….

The tragedy is that this issue is even a matter for debate. What sensible nation allows itself to be invaded harassed, insulted and attacked by its sworn enemies? And not even a show of resistance? God help Europe. She sure is not about to help herself.

“Her book Lions And Tiger And Terrorists, Oh My!” is subtitled How to Protect Your Child in a Time of Terror and is intended to be presented to children from 5 to 14.

The emphasis–and the responsibility to present that information (or not)–is on parents!

And, as the word “terrorism” doesn’t create an immediate image of Basque separatists in most folks’ minds in 2018, why doesn’t she just use the term “violent jihadists” instead?

Lovely comparison, lions and tigers! They make such sweet pets as kittens…. And how do you find out when they’re grown up? Well, once they rip your arm out. Which also fits perfectly to how our politicians pander to islam…

      • PRCS says

        Jan 25, 2018 at 11:26 am

The book’s intent is for parents to teach their children (if they choose to do so) to run from lions, tigers and “terrorists”.

        • MFritz says

          Jan 25, 2018 at 1:03 pm

And my point is, terrorists are PEOPLE.

You can SEE – at first glance – what a tiger and what a lion is. But not what a TERRORIST is.

What this book is telling children is NONSENSE. And it’s even dangerous, because either children will be MORE afraid of strangers or LESS, if they figure out that everybody and NOBODY could be a terrorist.

        • PRCS says

          Jan 25, 2018 at 7:45 pm

As children already know that lions and tigers are dangerous, it is “terrorists” (read: violent jihadists) that the book is actually addressing.

          Jan 26, 2018 at 12:19 am

No, most children DON’T know that a lions and tigers are dangerous, PRCS!

They are either being told about it at one point or they see it on television. Which isn’t very reliable, btw, because these animals are also used in many advertisements or children’s programs where they are shown to be harmless, friendly and/or even cuddly.

My personal experience with children of the big city was very funny at one point! Here in Europe there’s the Austrian chocolate company Milka who advertise their products with a lilac-coloured cow. So most children, who had never seen cows in real life, assumed that (some) cows are lilac-coloured and drew them that way! Which made the kindergarten then arrange an excursion to a local farm to have the children get a good look at real cows. 😉

“No, most children DON’T know that a lions and tigers are dangerous, PRCS!”

As children range in age from 0 to 18, your assertion is without merit.

        This statement should read…
“… ISLAM is “the birds and the bees talk of the 21st century” and EVERYONE should confront it head-on….”

Why is everyone afraid to confront Islam?, is the question that the civilized west, and anyone with even an ounce of common sense should be asking, and not tiptoeing around the the issues to avoid hurt feelings of Islam’s adherents.

Well, now….when I was that age, as young as 5 and 6 and going on 7 and 8, I was reading comic books about the NAZIs and all sorts of bad Japs, etc…. Yeah, that’s right: “GI Combat” and “Sgt Rock” and
“Fightin’ Marines”….and what it did was allowed me to see what we are fighting for and had fought against….and if this is a real and present danger, we are potentially solid enough to handle this at such tender ages. It just made me more aware, and frankly more of a PATRIOT. All my pals that age read the same stuff. And they grew up to be stalwart citizens.

I loved all those comic books when I was growing up! But I knew as I read them that the Nazis and the Japs had been soundly trounced. There was no longer any need to fear them. The situation is very different now. The enemy we face is yet to be defeated, and greatly to be feared.

The only cartoon super-hero worthy of the title today is Bosch Fawstin’s ‘Pigman’. Any kid who reads ‘Pigman’ comics already knows more about jihad than Lieberman does.

        Jan 26, 2018 at 11:40 am

@CRUSADER… Well at the time kids looked up to superheros and learnt to stand up to bullies and thugs.

In our current age of deception the liberal left is aggressively grooming armies of pansies and snowflakes that cringe at the sight of blood, need hugs and teddy bears to comfort hurt feelings and Kumbaya sessions to calm their frazzled nerves in the event of an attack…. and now they want to take it s step further to avoid any confrontation we are now publishing books that instruct our kids at a very young age, the art of cowardice….. Take your vitamins and run. How inspirational.

Evidently we are priming our future generations for complacency for an inevitable takeover by the hordes of Islam. that are doing the exact opposite with their progeny.

Aggressive hand to hand combat and indoctrination against the kuffar is inculcated at a very early age in Islamic nations.

There is no single children’s book on ANY topic which is suited to ALL age-groups. There is a HUGE difference between the emotional and intellectual maturity of a 14 year-old as compared with a 5 year-old.
There may well be a need for a book aimed at older children, which explains jihad (let’s call it what it is, Ms Lieberman), but please let’s not give 5 year-olds any more reasons to be anxious and fearful. At school, small children are already being exposed to material about, eg, ‘trans-gender issues’, and ‘environmental issues’ which the authors invariably claim to be ‘educational’ and ‘reassuring’, but which are in fact propaganda for leftist causes, and often cause unnecessary confusion and anxiety. Responsible parents will be alert to what kind of information, and how much of it, is appropriate for their children.

      True.

Her book Lions And Tiger And Terrorists, Oh My!” is subtitled How to Protect Your Child in a Time of Terror and is intended to be presented to children from 5 to 14.

      • StellaSaidSo says

        Jan 25, 2018 at 8:45 pm

This book claims in the sub-title to be aimed at parents – yet the title, and the cartoon format, are clearly designed to appeal to children. This set my bells ringing.

A book which was genuinely aimed at parents would not be written in cartoon format. It would contain factual information about jihad terror. It would not avoid naming the problem. It would not trivialise the threat. It would refer to examples and evidence. It would address the issue of age-appropriateness of information given to children. It would contain advice on how to assess the level of threat in your neighbourhood. It would consider a range of responses to various threat situations. It would not be biased toward a particular political perspective.

I seriously doubt that Lieberman’s book has much to offer in terms of protecting our children.

        • PRCS says

“A book which was genuinely aimed at parents would not be written in cartoon format. It would contain factual information about jihad terror.”

It’s aimed at children via parents.

          From the Sun article:

“Danielle S‏ said: “Completely agree with this book. Parents and teachers should judge which parts to teach.”

The cartoon style is geared toward children in order that parents can better present the information.

I have no reason to doubt the author.

But, I do wonder how many of those parents in opposition have a vested interest in preventing that information from being presented.

    • CRUSADER says

      Jan 25, 2018 at 6:13 pm

If little tender kids are being exposed at young ages to concepts such as “trans-gender” and “identity”
and such mayhem of anxiety and self-doubt, then a subject matter about EXISTENTIAL threat just helps to put all of that better into perspective. I’m for more exposure about Jihadism for kids.

(Heck, that’s what Hamas and Hizbollah do on the other side. We have to think of this as countering der Fuhrer’s Nazi Youth / “Deutsches Jungvolk in der Hitler Jugend”.) Generationally, this is doable.

If I am thinking about my parents and family and friends at school or church or Sunday School getting slaughtered by a jihadist, then all that makes me feel I had better step up my own game and do what I can to grow into a strong citizen.

Scouts is the first thing to get into upon such awareness. And go from there. Learning about survival and skills to help others succeed will just trump other “considerations” thrown at kids. If all they get are the fluffy topics, then they will become fluff themselves.

No, don’t preclude such knowledge from kids. Especially when it comes to disaster prep, which is what this really is: even kids as young as 5 have faired amazingly well in disasters, if they know what to learn and prepare for!!!! AWARENESS — situational awareness — does wonders for the growth of a person.

      “Go ….teach….your children well….”

So Kufr children here are taught to run from Islamist terrorists. Not exactly a Spartan mentality being exhibited by our adults. Terrorists MUST be hunted down and killed….More pandering to Islam seems to be the Government order of the day, I suppose the book comes with a give-away Qu’ran and prayer mat to tuck under the kids arms on their way to compulsory Mosque lessons on Islam.

But the Spartans, well, they INDEED would start their kids at age 7.

Yet that wouldn’t preclude 5 year olds from gaining situational AWARENESS, prior to their physical training. Their mental training began even as they were being raised by their mothers.
Spartans were born and raised early from infancy to prepare for disaster and for victory.

        GO TELL THE SPARTANS!

The best solution is to explain to children that some adults have decided to hurt you, because they are (obviously) dangerous, but most people WON’T do that. And that you always have to be careful until you KNOW for sure

It’s like crossing the street. You have to warn children what can happen, but if you try to protect them at all cost (i.e. by not letting them out), it doesn’t work either and makes things even worse.
