This is as expected. When Macron first announced that he was planning a reorganization of Islam in France, I wrote: “Macron clearly still knows nothing of Islam. As any Islamic supremacist might have told him, Islam reorganizes, it is not reorganized.” That is clearly Ahmet Ogras’ view as well.
“INTERVIEW-Muslim leader urges Macron not to meddle too much in French Islam,” by Julie Carriat, Reuters, February 14, 2018 (thanks to David):
PARIS, Feb 14 (Reuters) – A leading representative of French Muslims urged Emmanuel Macron not to meddle in the organisation of France’s second-largest religion, days after the president said he would try to redefine relations between Islam and the state.
The rebuke came from the leader of an organisation set up 15 years ago in a bid to defuse concern about radical preachers and foster a more homegrown form of Islam that would fit better with France’s traditional separation of church and state affairs.
“Everyone must stick to their role,” Ahmet Ogras, president of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM), told Reuters in an interview.
“The Muslim faith is a religion and, as such, takes care of its own household affairs. The last thing you want is the state to act as guardian,” said Ogras, a Frenchman of Turkish descent who has led the CFCM since mid-2017.
Macron, elected last May after a runoff victory over far-right leader Marine Le Pen, said in a Feb. 11 newspaper interview he planned to revisit the way Islam was overseen.
“What I’d like to get done in the first half of 2018 is set down markers on the entire way in which Islam is organised in France,” he told the Journal du Dimanche. The priority would be to “bring back what secularism is all about”….
Macron has been under pressure to deal firmly with radical preachers and mosques since a wave of attacks in which Islamist militants killed more than 230 people in France since 2015….

What! you mean until now nothing has been done until now?
Good luck to Macron.
What happened to secularism in France, Britain, India where special provisions are made for Muslims and or Islam over and above people of other religions, that is, non-Muslims.
WPM says
Macron is going to do nothing he is a girly man who the French put in, when the Moslems riot he will cave in on trying to make Islam modern .Changing Islam into something that gets along with the secular West would be like trying to teach a rock to do algebra ,a lot of work for nothing ,a rock will remain a rock no matter what you do.

Lavéritétriomphera says
Macron said: “I am the president as Louis saying: I am the king”. Even those who voted for him could decide to take to the streets if principle of secularism is being put at risk.
StellaSaidSo says
I agree. A lot of people who voted for le roi Macron regretted doing so when he made that remark. In a fair contest, Le Pen would have won the 2017 election. Macron will get one chance, and one chance only, to show the French people that he is serious about stopping the expansion of Islam within France.
Lavéritétriomphera says
I’m afraid he will have no choice. The police and maybe the army and a part of the government do not trust him. He may have to resign as De Gaulle did.
If we want a king, we can have it. The royal family still exists and many of my fellow citizens (perhaps 30%) want Louis to come back.
StellaSaidSo says
Again, we are in agreement. And should Macron be obliged to step down, I am sure that Le Pen will be ready to step up. It is interesting that you mention Louis de Bourbon. I know several people in France (all of them elderly) for whom the Revolution almost never happened. They would support Louis (or Henri d’Orleans) in a heartbeat. But I’m not sure that the younger citoyennes would go for the idea. Somehow I doubt that either pretender would be up to the task of ridding France of the putrid stench of Islam. Stand back and let Le Pen get on with the job, I say.
Lavéritétriomphera says
StellaSaidSo,
Hi,
Revolutionaries did not ask the all population if they wanted to kill the king. They knew the answer would have been no.
As in Russia is possible many young people want Louis to come back, I think it’s a very large national identity issue because the Muslim community becomes a state within the state, and never the French population will accept the partition of the country.
Louis de Borbon says he will restore order in the country and many my fellow citizens listen to him even people in powerful positions.
Amitiés.
StellaSaidSo says
C’est vrai, revolutionaries do not canvas the populace before taking action. But it is more than 200 years since France had a king, and she has not suffered greatly for the want of one. What France is suffering from now is the same problem that most of the Western world is suffering from – lack of strong leadership. At least in Marine Le Pen, France has a potential leader who has the political will to confront the Islam issue. I don’t think that, for all his promises about restoring order (an easy thing to say, but a very difficult thing to do), Louis is up to the task. As a constitutional monarch he would not have the power in any case – and the idea of returning to absolute monarchy is absurd in the 21stC.
Lavéritétriomphera says
StellaSaidSo,
Ce que vous dîtes est vrai mais Louis means a lot to the population (perhaps 40 %) and he said he will answer to the call of the nation.
MLP did not convince, she must be supported by a strongman to be heard maybe Nicolas Dupont-Aignan …
but you can be sure about one thing, Islam is rejected by the entire population even by the French West Indians.
Ray Jarman says
Well said.
StellaSaidSo says
Many people in France have a sentimental attachment to monarchy – magazines about royalty sell very well in France, I have noticed. (La Duchesse Kate d’Angleterre seems especially popular!) But I’m not sure that the French people would give up their liberty and democracy for it. What, after all, has Louis done which qualifies him for leadership? Has he spoken specifically about the Islamic threat? What does he mean by ‘the call of the nation’? Somehow I cannot see this unremarkable Spanish aristocrat filling the shoes of Charles Martel.
Re MLP – she was convincing enough to frighten her opponents – so much so that they played every dirty trick in the book to keep her out of the Elysee Palace. In a fair contest, she would have won. Her popularity increases with every atrocity committed by Muslims. I don’t think Le Pen needs a ‘strongman’ to be heard, but I’m sure that she would welcome any support M. Dupont-Aignan has to offer!
(Apologies for typo 7:33am, should have been 100 years, not 200 years, though 150 years is more accurate, the reign of Napoleon III having ended in 1870.)
Cheers from Australia!
Lavéritétriomphera says
@StellaSaidSo,
I do not think the monarchy can be restored but Louis 20 is ready to serve France, while Louis 16 and Marie Antoinette have betrayed their country.
MLP did not convince, her economic program was one of her weak points and political reversals are not new in France.
StellaSaidSo says
I agree that it is extremely unlikely that the French monarchy will be restored, in which case there will be no Louis XX. Which raises the question of the capacity in which Louis would serve the nation in the event that it called on him. He has a degree in Economics, and he worked for BNP Paribas in Madrid. As professional CV’s go, this is fairly ordinary. Macron’s CV is rather more impressive. And yet he fails to impress. You say that MLP ‘did not convince’. What is it about Louis that ‘convinces’?
Lavéritétriomphera says
Louis is above all a symbol. He said he will intervene if the country is in torment.
I am surprised by patriots who believe in him.
StellaSaidSo says
But how would he ‘intervene’? He has no legitimate authority (‘legitimiste’ n’est pas le meme chose!). What does he symbolise? Yes, I too am surprised that anyone (apart from the elderly comtesses I mentioned earlier) takes him seriously. I’m sure France can save itself without the help of a Spanish duke!
Cheers again!
Lavéritétriomphera says
Yes but Louis and Henri d’Orlean are powerful symbols and De Gaulle wanted the monarchy to be restored.
Now France needs a real leader and more and more people are royalist. France have a Roman Catholic tradition and Catholics do not forget that the king can only be a Roman Catholic.

Don’t worry, CRUSADER, the Bonapartists also have a pretender to the French throne.
Jean-Christophe, ‘Prince Napoleon’, b1986, a descendant of the youngest brother of Napoleon I. Not much of a resemblance to the General, I’m afraid. Sans doute, the best man for the job of rescuing France from the predations of Islam is Marine Le Pen.

StellaSaidSo says
@ LVT
Oui, votre pays est tres traditionaliste – but this is not a time for romance. The pretenders are not the solution to the problem of ridding France of le menace Islamique. So far, Marine Le Pen is the only leader who has shown real willingness to address the issue, and in a fair contest she would have won the 2017 election. France needs to get behind Le Pen, and give her the power to act. The enemy is at the gates.
Lavéritétriomphera says
MLP is not Joan of Arc, she does not hear voices. I would be glad if she becomes president, but she did not convince https://nypost.com/2017/05/05/le-pen-explains-her-fury-in-debate-against-macron/.
Rob Crawford says
Macron could start by simply banning it. Make the practice of Islam as legal as the practice of human sacrifice. After all, it so often requires just that.
StellaSaidSo says
If only ‘banning it’ were simple. But, one way or another, it must be eradicated from civil society.
Macron has no real understanding of Islam. What he understands very well, however, is that the French people won’t vote for him at the next election if he does not do something about the spread of Islam in France.
A ‘reorganization’ of the practice of Islam in France could include, eg, the monitoring of all mosques and the closure of any who preach violent jihad (that would be most of them), a complete ban on street prayers, resumption of control over ‘les zones sensibles’, reduced access to welfare, and heavier penalties for Koran-sanctioned crimes.
The prison system in France will need to be upgraded, and new prisons built to accommodate those Muslims who refuse to read the memo. Maybe some of the welfare parasites who constitute the majority in Muslim ‘communities’ could be employed on such projects. In the meantime, M. Macron, maintain the visible police and military presence on the streets. And give the intelligence agencies and security services – who already do an admirable job in foiling plots – more resources.
ROBERT BROWN says
Exactly Rob..Islam must be proscribed…there will be riots and unrest, deaths of innocents….but they will be as nothing if you let Islam get stronger….Get the Army, Police, reservists on the streets, with permission to shoot to kill if there is any violence to the decision, certain, start demolishing every mosque, round-up at gunpoint all the leaders, Immans whatever, detention camp, then deportation…..moslems be given a year to settle their affairs, property etc…and re-locate to a Moslem country…or have the option of converting to another faith, or be atheist whatever…..once they experience the freedom of a gentle religion or none at all, they will see how shackled they were to Islam….Terrorism will increase, but, hey, we’ve got that now…and with France clear of moslems, any terrorists will find it difficult to act with the impunity they do now….
StellaSaidSo says
Good points. The time is fast approaching when Muslims in the West will be required to choose between loyalty to Islam, and loyalty to their adopted country. It is not possible to be loyal to both. Either renounce the vile ideology, or pack your bags.

If you and your government would only uphold the laws of your nation, these islamic slugs would be sent back to the rock from where they slimed their way out. Why did you invite these ingrates when you only had to look to Marseille and the way it had already become islamified where Jewish children were and are harassed daily and many suburbs had the look of Algiers and I don’t mean the romantic idea of “Casa Blanca.” I realize that America has its own problems but nowhere the statistical numbers of cult members to the French of Napoleon.

France: Muslim leader warns Macron not to meddle with Islam
………………………….
Yes–these threats were entirely predictable.
More:
The rebuke came from the leader of an organisation set up 15 years ago in a bid to defuse concern about radical preachers and foster a more homegrown form of Islam that would fit better with France’s traditional separation of church and state affairs.
………………………….
In other words, this organization was–nominally–intended to do just what Macron was talking about. And yet, in the past 15 years, Islam has just become more of a threat to France, and Jihad is mushrooming there.
Of course, as Ahmet Ogras knows, this organization was not really intended to foster a more “moderate” Islam, nor one that better fits the values of France–instead; note the weasely words–it was just intended to “defuse concer”–in other words, to lull the French into a false sense of security.
Matthieu Baudin says
If Macron wants to progress from ‘pin up boy’ to ‘leader of his people’ then he’ll resolutely and thoughtfully pursue the issue of what constitutes acceptable Islamic Observance in Contemporary France and of course more broadly in Modern Europe.

The Foreign Office over which you have responsibility, has recently hosted a world hijab day and in order to show just how nice we are, bought hijab’s for non Muslim women to wear.
These hijab’s were bought with taxpayers’ money. Money you have no authority to spend in order to celebrate a vile and evil Satanic cult entirely unacceptable in Her Majesty’s Christian Kingdom. A cult Her Majesty’s forefathers fought against in the crusades.
Someone in your ministry took it upon himself to spend taxpayers’ money in a manor that the vast majority of taxpayers would very strongly object to. This constitutes an offence of fraudulent misappropriation of taxpayers’ money by abuse of authority contrary to sec 4 of the 2006 Fraud Act. I trust you will ask the Metropolitan Police to prosecute this blatant theft of taxpayers’ money to further your official’s own political beliefs.
Alternatively, I and every Christian taxpayer await your crucifixion with eager anticipation. I would suggest that the prosecution would be more cost effective.
Respectfully submitted (etc.)…..”

My point of view was that MANY DISAPPEARANCES, MURDERS AND LONG JAIL TERMS were the only thing that convinced Turkeys mullahs to go along with the reforms of KEMAL ATATURK. In addition, Ataturk placed sufficient power into the hands of the Turkish military establishment that they were the actual ruling party of Turkey, representing a SECULAR RELIGION behind the façade of government neutrality in religion. Whatever Turkey’s military wanted, they got and their opportunism was the only thing that was important until Erdogan found a way to neutralize the military.
