According to Sheikh Kamal al-Khatib, Deputy Head of the Islamic Movement in Israel:
“The city of Al-Quds is the capital city of the Islamic Caliphate, which is run properly,” al-Khatib wrote. “With the help of Allah, this will soon become reality.”
A Jewish state is an affront to Islamic supremacists who seek a global Islamic caliphate. Although the PA, Fatah and Hamas Charters all contain the goal of obliterating Israel, that is still not good enough for Sheikh Kamal al-Khatib, Deputy Head of the illegal Islamic Movement in Israel because he thinks the Palestinian Authority is too “willing to negotiate regarding Israel.”
Such negotiations are really no more than a sham and a show, but al-Khatib is impatient; so here we see a kind of in-house power struggle, a fighting over means, not ends. According to al-Khatib, the Palestinian Authority is “competing with us in their love for Jerusalem,” yet aside from this “competition,” Islamic supremacists view the Jewish state as a stumbling block that is standing in their way, and they want it obliterated. East Jerusalem in their view is the rightful capital of “Palestine.” They share their desire for a global caliphate with the Muslim Brotherhood, al Qaeda and the Islamic State. They differ in means, not ends.
The Grand Sheikh of Al Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayyeb, hailed by many Sunni Muslims as the highest authority in Sunni Islam, made some eye-opening statements with reference to Trump’s Jerusalem declaration. El-Tayyeb referred to Jerusalem as “100 percent Arab” under Israeli occupation. He said that decisions such as Trump’s will nurture terrorism, thereby justifying it. He also affirmed that because of this decision, the East and the West “will drown in seas of blood.”
Also, a Palestinian Authority spokesman, Nabil Abu Ruadina, has stated on behalf of PA leader Abbas that the latter “reiterated our firm position that there is no Palestinian state without East Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with the decisions of the international community and the Arab peace initiative.”
“’Jerusalem will be the capital of the Islamic Caliphate’”, by Dalit Halevi, Arutz Sheva, February 5, 2018:
Sheikh Kamal al-Khatib, Deputy Head of the illegal Islamic Movement in Israel, published an article expressing his opinion what Jerusalem’s status should be.
The article, published in the Gaza newspaper Falestin, slams those who talk a lot about their love and connection to Al-Aqsa Mosque and notes that those who really love Al-Aqsa are the ones “who are active on the ground, hold Islamic activities in the mosque, renovate Muslims’ homes in the Old City of Jerusalem, and were arrested or forced to pay a fine for their activities.”
According to al-Khatib, the Palestinian Authority is “competing with us in their love for Jerusalem” but they are also the ones who negotiated Jerusalem during the Oslo Accords and were willing to negotiate regarding Jerusalem. Today, when Jerusalem is becoming more Jewish, they cry crocodile tears.
“The city of Al-Quds is the capital city of the Islamic Caliphate, which is run properly,” al-Khatib wrote. “With the help of Allah, this will soon become reality.”
Al-Khatib, who serves as deputy chief of the outlawed Northern Branch of the Islamic Movement, was banned until October 2017 from entering Jerusalem or Al-Aqsa mosque. In July 2017, he claimed that Israeli authorities “persecute the activists by arresting dozens of them, preventing their entry to Jerusalem and Al Aqsa
