This campaign of the Canadian government sums up the willful ignorance of Western authorities. If there is anything that the hijab is not about, it’s equality for everyone. The hijab is, rather, a symbol of the inequality of women, and their responsibility to cover their hair so as not to tempt men; men have no concomitant responsibility to do anything so as not to tempt women. What’s more, innumerable women have been brutalized and even killed for not wearing the hijab.
Also, the Qur’an says: “Men have authority over women because Allah has made the one superior to the other…” (4:34). What is equal about that?
