A sign of hope for Europe, and of rejection of its suicidal migration policies.
“Victory for Eurosceptic, populist parties shocks the establishment in Italy election,” by Nick Squires and Peter Foster, Telegraph, March 5, 2018:
Italian voters have flocked to anti-establishment, Eurosceptic parties and rejected mainstream, traditional political parties, the latest predictions from the country’s election indicated on Monday.
The populist Five Star Movement, founded by stand-up comedian Beppe Grillo as a bombastic challenge to the established order, emerged as the big winner of the general election, in a result that will be viewed with trepidation in Brussels.
With around half the ballot counted, it looked as though the Five Star Movement had won around a third of all votes, up from 25 per cent in Italy’s last general election in 2013.
The Eurosceptic, anti-immigration League also performed well, according to preliminary calculations.
The numbers suggested that The League and Five Star together attracted 50 per cent of all votes.
The League was projected to take more than 17 per cent of the vote – compared with just four per cent at the last election.
In a bitter blow for former premier Silvio Berlusconi, The League was projected to take more votes than his more moderate, centre-Right Forza Italia party.
The two parties are in an uneasy alliance, along with two other centre-Right parties, and together the bloc was expected to win around 37 per cent of the vote.
No party or alliance got over the threshold of 40 per cent, which would have allowed it to form a government outright.
Matteo Salvini, the leader of The League, wrote in a tweet: “My first words – thank you.”
There was a euphoric mood at the party’s headquarters in Milan, with one official telling reporters that the League’s strong showing was “a clear signal to Europe, which has mistreated Italians.”
The governing Democratic Party, headed by former prime minister Matteo Renzi, performed dismally, with exit polls suggesting it won less than 20 per cent of the vote – a disastrous result for Italy’s mainstream centre-Left party.
It appeared to have been punished by voters for persistently high unemployment, a laggardly economy and the reception of 600,000 migrants arriving by boat from Libya in the last four years.
As the largest party, Five Star is likely to demand the chance to try to form a government.
“Nobody will be able to govern without the Five Star Movement,” said senior party member Riccardo Fraccaro. “We will assume the responsibility to build this government, but in a different way, talking with all the parties about what this country needs.”
However, the party has repeatedly ruled out forming a coalition with other parties, guaranteeing uncertainty over what happens next….

Victories like this are crucial for breaking the stranglehold of the politically correct, authoritarian, Islam-friendly European Union — and the corrupt political establishment in general. Let’s hope this nascent trend continues, until the EU is just an unpleasant memory, and real democracy, with real choices, is alive & well throughout Europe, the U.S., etc.

Italians seem to be ignoring the Pope with this election. Only 15% attend mass regularly and another 8% step inside the church at least once a month. The Pope seems more of an institution, like the UK’s monarchy, than a real political influence.
It’s good to see Italians taking control of the their future. With an estimated 600,000+ illegal “immigrants” in their country someone must make the hard decisions.
PaulM says
It is little wonder. Considering that the Pope acts like an Imam for Islam. He truly does. And he has clearly stated that he is a fascist at heart.

once the government handouts stop, people will return to religion. Right now the government is the sugar daddy of the people. There have been bad popes before. It’s only the media that hangs on every word of the pope. It was never a catholic idea to rely too much on the pope. He’s only a man sitting in Peter’s seat, he’s not the faith itself.

Reported on France24:
=================
A surge for populist and far-right parties in Sunday’s Italian election could result in a hung parliament with a right-wing alliance likely to win the most votes, but no majority.
With over half the ballots from Sunday’s vote counted, the right-wing coalition was at 37 percent, including the far-right, eurosceptic League party with 18 percent and media mogul Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia (Go Italy) party with 14 percent.
That raises the prospect of League leader Matteo Salvini, who has promised to shut down Roma camps, deport hundreds of thousands of migrants and tackle the “danger” of Islam, becoming Italy’s next prime minister.
The eurosceptic, anti-establishment Five Star Movement, which has drawn support from Italians fed up with traditional parties and a lack of economic opportunity, was predicted to come second to the coalition.
lisa says
Cinque stelle is unfortunately not anti establishment and Di Maio (pictured above) is an ambitious little traitor who will never act in the interests of Italy, but only pretends to. Don’t expect anything from them as they cannot be trusted. Salvini is still despised by many from Southern Italy because of his goal of seperating Northern Italy from the South and is considered racist by many Italians but he is the only salvation for Italy. Hopefully offended Italians can put their pride aside and accept that real change requires drastic measures and not cinque stelle who will never deliver.

Wow who rattled your cage bully! I listen to what he says in italian, verbatim and not what’s reported in the media. Furthermore, he’s a Marxist and despite changing his mind every ninute on something or other, he point blank refuses to grant Italy a referendum on leaving the EU. Exit is it’s only.salvatiion as membership and more spefically the euro has turned Italy into practically a 3rd world country. In my opinion he’s a hungry and ambitious career politician but still a puppet. There’s a reason why Salvini does not want to form a coalition with cinque stelle.

Well he certainly betrayed the Italian people by voting with the PD to make a change to our immigration laws. Now he is betraying the people that voted for him by trying to form a coalition with other parties to govern, after he promised not to. I agree with Lisa, he and the whole of M5S is dangerous. Salvini is

A win by Five Star Movement is NOT, “A sign of hope for Europe, and of rejection of its suicidal migration policies.”
The Five Star Movement along with the PD (socialists) voted for changing entering Italy illegally from a felony to a misdemeanor.
They also voted to allow asylum to unaccompanied minors.
If they form a government with the PD, we would most likely see the law changed to being born in Italy as a right to have Italian citizenship.

Matteo Salivini sounds good, though–he has campaigned on “Stop the Invasion”.
CRUSADER says
What’s the appeal of this momentous “Change” then?
Miriam says
Good Question. I myself do not see the appeal of M5S. They claim to be anti establishment. They are not for taking Italy out of the Eu, but for making Italy’s voice stronger within the EU. Good luck with that! On the issue of immigration they are rather vague, they seem to skirt around the issue.
Breaking down the votes by region is interesting: the north (and parts of the center) voted Lega. Which means they want to work, pay taxes, deport the illegal immigrants and use the taxes for Italy and Italians.
The south voted M5S: because they promised them money. They don’t want to work, don’t want to pay taxes, they just want easy access to welfare.
The media says a lot of things that are false about M5S. Just as they do about the Lega. The Lega is NOT anti immigrant, but anti illegal immigration. They want immigrants to respect the laws and culture of Italy. The first black senator in the Italian Senate was elected on the Lega ticket.
CRUSADER says
What would Mussolini have done about the Muslims in the midst?

I’m glad the courageous Tommy Robinson found a way to survive. He stopped trying to lead a political party and instead became a member of the media. When he was trying with incredible courage to develop a political party, UK establishment basically became totalitarian, nearly got him killed, and took away his rights to try to get him to stop. But by restricting himself to media activity, he made it harder for the government to get at him, and perhaps he found a way to survive economically. More power to him. I think the Oxford Union even let him give a talk.

Excellent little speech by Robinson. At last, vast numbers of the population ( in Italy and, hopefully, everywhere else in the world) are rising up and saying, hey, we’ve woken up to the damage Muslim migration is and the danger it represents, and we’re saying, it has to end. I like the way Robinson says, all you people who’ve been called bigots and extremists and fringe people are not fringe dwellers but part of large numbers of the population. At last, the people seem to have had enough of the crap that has been imposed on them in relation to the Muslim invaders.
j_not_a says
Well, I am hoping this spells the end of the Italian Navy’s water taxi service from the coast of Libya to the shores of Italy, on a nearly daily basis. I’d sure like to know exactly who it was at the top who was responsible for sending out these search and tow rescue missions that brought these 600,000 unwanted mooslim economic opportunists and criminals to Italy over the past few years. I still can’t really recall any widespread protests by the Italian public the whole time this was going on.
eduardo odraude says
Sounds like you have read the excellent The Strange Death of Europe by Douglas Murray. Murray describes, as I recall, how the Italian government actually got to the point of sending rescue boats fairly close to the African coast to pick up migrants whose boats were failing. At first the Italians had only rescued boats failing close to Italy. But the Italians started to go further and further across the Mediterranean to save boats. The African traffickers, seeing this pattern, stopped worrying about whether the boats would get far or have enough fuel, since the Italians would come further and further to save the day. Compassion is only good if it makes the overall situation better. Otherwise, is it really compassion? Or something else? Swamping Europe with illiberal peoples who believe their illiberal culture is ordained by God and far superior to decadent liberalism does not make the world situation better. Europe, with all its great flaws, is the bearer of thousands of years of civilizational progress. And the Left, because of its blindspots, is risking throwing that all that progress in the trash heap of history. Help Muslim refugees and migrants in their own countries. Do not let any more of them into liberal civilizations.
tim gallagher says
I agree with every word you’ve written, Eduardo. Sums it up perfectly. Civilised people worked hard to build a wonderful western civilisation. Islam is 100% incompatible with our western civilisation. As you say, we may have our flaws, but are far, far more civilised than totally barbaric Islam. Keep them out or our hard won civilisation will be destroyed. Compassion is idiotic if it leads to the destruction of our decent way of life, which, unfortunately, I believe it will. Actually, I probably disagree with helping Muslims even in their own countries because, if they aren’t helped and propped up, maybe they’ll ditch Islam, which holds them back in their total barbarity.

The center Left, whatever good it may have brought into the world, is certainly responsible for a lot of horrors as well. It was a Swedish Social Democrat, recall, who prevailed upon the German government in 1917 to transport Lenin from his exile in Switzerland back to Russia, where he transformed what would have been a democratic revolution in 1917 into the Soviet dictatorship and all the horrors that followed for seven decades. Where would the world be now if Russia had been a democracy instead of a communist dictatorship? Would China have become a democracy instead of Red China? Would a hundred million or two hundred million fewer people be dead? Would fascism never have gone far in Europe? But the Left goes on pushing its myopic beliefs and deadly blind spots. Now in Brussels they push a form of multiculturalism so extreme as to be suicidal. Multiculturalism is good, so long as it does not tolerate a culture like Islam, which tends to destroy multiculturalism and impose a monoculture.
Until a majority of Muslim-majority nations permit freedom of speech and freedom of religion, there should be a moratorium on Muslim immigration to non-Muslim nations. This would arguably benefit not just non-Muslims, but the Muslim world itself. A policy of containment would build pressure for basic human freedoms.
CRUSADER says
