Of course, this is not happening only Nigeria. Raping young girls is a common practice in many Muslim countries. Often it is considered an honorable gesture and results in the addition of the victim to the rapist’s harem. In Malaysia, a Muslim MP stated that even though rape is a crime, the rapist and the victim should both be “given a second chance to turn a new leaf” and that the victim “will have a husband at least.”
Throughout the Middle East, young girls are considered desirable “and men are able to satisfy their lusts legally through child marriages…..Cases of girls dying during childbirth are not unusual…. In another case, a 12-year-old girl was married to an 80-year-old man in Saudi Arabia.”
Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs has also stated that marriage under Islamic law is permissible at the time of adolescence, which could be at the age of nine for girls.
Young girls in Islamic countries who are raped are often considered to be dirty, defiled and a dishonour to their families, leading sometimes to their being honour-killed by their own families.
Given these common realities about how females are treated in Islam, it becomes clearer that 14-year-old Fateemah Habeeb — despite her life being destroyed by her rapist — will be viewed by many of her coreligionists as fortunate, and the rapist imam will be viewed as honourable in marrying her.
Meantime, sanctimonious Westerners proclaim how insensitive it is to use the term “barbaric cultural practices” in referring to practices that are completely unacceptable in nations that respect human rights — such as child marriage, forced marriage, FGM, honour killing, rape, etc. Shame on them.
“Imam who allegedly impregnated 14-year-old girl plans to marry her,” by Simbiat Ayoola, Nigeria News, March 21, 2018:
According to a young humanitarian identified as Fateemah Habeeb, a 14-year-old girl was defiled by an Imam who is over 50 years old.
She explained that the Imam in question had bragged about defiling the girl with courage that nothing was going to happen to him. Habeeb who is an advocate for young Nigerian girls living in the North stated that she had decided to talk to the girl’s parents and bring justice to the Imam.
She revealed that the mother of the victim had been willing to get justice.
However, after the humanitarian called on people to help bring the case to the right people, she was told that the 14-year-old girl would be married off to the man.
She explained that the girl’s parents who said they no longer needed her help were afraid because their daughter was pregnant and they wanted to avoid gossip.
According to Habeeb, she tried everything in her power to help the family and explain that what they were doing was a crime.
The humanitarian, however, expressed her desire to continue to help the family and the 14-year-old girl. She also added that she would do everything in her power to bring justice for the Imam…..
