Toronto police arrested teacher Saleh Momla for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old boy at the Islamic Foundation of Toronto school.
Although the sexual abuse of boys by men is found in every culture, what is unique about Islam is its harsh punishment of death for homosexuals while the abusive practice of Muslim men with boys is swept under the carpet.
Men sexually abusing boys is routine in Afghanistan, where Islamic doctrine is strictly followed and enforced.
In an ancient custom called “bacha bazi” — meaning boy for play — rich men buy boys for sexual slavery. The boys are forced to dress like women, dance and sing at parties, before being taken away for sex by men.
Owning boys is considered a symbol of status and one former warlord boasted of having up to 3,000 boys over a 20-year period, even though he was married, with two sons. The involvement of the police and inaction of the government means this form of child prostitution is widespread.
U.S. soldiers were actually ordered to ignore the sexual abuse of boys by Afghan allies when they heard the boys screaming.
A Muslim cleric in New York City, Sheikh Khalid Yasin, enunciated the Islamic view about homosexuality, stating that “God is very straightforward about this — not we Muslims, not subjective, the Sharia is very clear about it, the punishment for homosexuality, bestiality or anything like that is death….We don’t make any excuses about that, it’s not our law — it’s the Koran.”
Nonetheless, the abuse of boys by men is being systemically practiced in Afghanistan “behind the devout exterior”; and not only in Afghanistan, but also Pakistan. An investigation in late November found that sex abuse of little boys by mullahs is rampant at Islamic schools in Pakistan.
Widespread outcries and expressions of horror by mainstream Muslims about these abuses are unheard, as is their acknowledgement of the most barbaric global abuses committed in the name of Islam.
