A group of amorous couples and accused sex workers were publicly whipped for breaking Islamic law in Indonesia’s Aceh Friday…
This barbaric spectacle was perfectly normal for a society that enforces Islamic law:
More than a thousand people, including dozens of tourists from neighbouring Malaysia jeered and screamed abuse at the group of three men and five women as they were flogged on a stage outside a mosque in the capital Banda Aceh.
Some were snapping pictures.
The so-called “sex-worker” victims of these beatings were not even confirmed guilty, not that their guilt could ever warrant such inhumane cruelty.
Aceh has been facing an international backlash over its brutal punishments, and with good reason. Several weeks ago, a group of Muslims dumped sewage on the heads of couple for violating the Sharia. Their “crime” was being alone together in a room. Aceh raids university campuses in search of gays and flogs citizens for playing entertainment games that have been deemed to be against Islamic law.
Only days ago, authorities in Aceh Province demonstrated that they were ashamed (as they should be) of their Sharia punishments, and so decided to take their canings indoors, but as this story shows, that idea was short-lived. This is no surprise, as proponents of Islamic law deem excessive brutality to be an effective way to control their population and send this message out to as many people as possible:
Today’s flogging is evidence that (the government) and our people are still committed to implementing Islamic law.
“Amorous couples, sex workers whipped for breaking Islamic [sic],” Vanguard, April 20, 2018:
A group of amorous couples and accused sex workers were publicly whipped for breaking Islamic law in Indonesia’s Aceh Friday, just a week after the province pledged to move the widely condemned practice indoors.
More than a thousand people, including dozens of tourists from neighbouring Malaysia, jeered and screamed abuse at the group of three men and five women as they were flogged on a stage outside a mosque in the capital Banda Aceh.
Some snapped pictures as a hooded figure rained down lashes from a rattan cane on their backs, with each getting between 11 and 22 strokes.
The couples were whipped for showing affection in public, while two of the women were suspected sex workers, officials said.
Aceh is the only province in the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country that imposes Islamic law.
Flogging is a common punishment for a range of offences — from gambling, to drinking alcohol to having gay sex or relations outside of marriage.
The conservative region on the northern tip of Sumatra island passed a regulation a week ago that would see criminals whipped only behind prison walls.
It was not clear when the new rule would come into effect.
The move was in response to a wave of international criticism over the practice, which has included flogging members of the vulnerable LGBT community and, in some cases, non-Muslims.
Non-Muslims can usually choose whether or not to be punished under religious law and sometimes opt for a painful flogging to avoid a long court process and jail term.
Rights groups have derided the punishment as cruel and last year Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo called for an end to public whippings in Aceh.
Around 98 percent of the province’s five million residents are Muslims, subject to religious law, including the public whippings which came into practice around 2005.
Under the new rules, caning cannot be recorded anymore and only journalists and adults can witness the punishment inside prisons. Children have often been present at public canings.
Some conservative groups are protesting against the end of public whippings, saying it has a strong deterrent effect on crime.
“Today’s flogging is evidence that (the government) and our people are still committed to implementing Islamic law,” said Banda Aceh’s deputy mayor Zainal Arifin.“
This is not only about physical punishment for violators, but also to set an example for members of the public who witness the flogging directly or watch it on social media.”…

Please take time from your busy week-end to email this item to your elected federal and state Republican senators & representatives. Tell them simply and clearly that this is unchangeable Islam — stuck in the 7th Century, along with misogyny, polygamy, female genital mutilation, death by stoning, suicide bombing, beheading, Antisemitism, and daily murders to honor a bloodthirsty “god” named Allah. Copy that message also to all clueless family, friends, faith resources, local city council members, TV news departments in your town, and leftist Dems who have published web addresses. I guarantee you will feel terrific after finishing the effort of bringing grim reality to deniers.

***** I FORGOT TO MENTION *****
Especially for WOMEN who read Robert’s blog: send emails to federal and state DEM FEMALE senators and representatives where you live.
Remind them of the complete blindness their political party apparently has toward Islam’s disgusting denial of equal rights and conduct toward the gender which is NOT male.
And, as a cherry on top of your reality sundae, copy & paste what I wrote above (in my prior comment) to the chairperson of a “feminist studies” department at one or two universities or colleges in your state.
Those persons, if women, are almost certain to be ultra-leftists, and will be totally p*ssed-off.

Then I will shut up. PAMELA GELLER is the most courageous civilian in our United States (and Robert Spencer is right up there at the top with her).
For those of us who do not yet know of her daily blog, please go to www [dot] gellerreport [dot] com. Pam covers many items which do not appear on Robert’s website here.
There are currently (2 PM Eastern U.S. Saturday) crucial posts by her about uber-rich Leftist money, and Dem outrage — via lawsuits — that Hillary lost the election.

It has everything to do with Islam. This is required by Shariah Law which is prescribed by the Koran to ensure compliance. Moslems are the ones enforcing Shariah Law. If the victims want, the punishment can occur inside a mosque. Hardline, Conservative Moslems object to the punishment enacted inside a mosque because they consider it to be lenient.
Tom says
If as you say this is for public entertainment, let us have pig races in front of the mosque. The Imam’s can decide the winner. Islamic charities can provide refreshments, pork sausage and beer for everyone. If it rains, everyone can move inside the mosque because pigs do not get any traction in the mud.

There is no shortage of examples in history that show the popularity of public punishments. It seems that human nature leans towards enjoying watching the suffering of others. A public hanging would definitely
overflow Yankee Stadium.
Before we get up on our high horses over this it is helpful to remember that corporal punishment was part of our legal system until very recently. In Canada, for example, paddling was often part of the punishment
for rape as recently as the 1960s. Today, of course, we consider this to be barbaric.
No “proper” trial and conviction? Many non-Islamic countries are pretty good at this. China, for example, has it down to an art.
Highlighting it is critical, of course. Be aware of the laws of a country before visiting it. Many people are often surprised that they do not carry the laws of their country with them wherever they travel.

GOOD POINT ABOUT OUR OWN HISTORY OF CORPORAL PUNISHMENT.
In my comment, though, I wanted to emphasize that subjugation and violence are epoxied into Islam, and have been ever since Muhammad — the Ideal Example for human conduct — lived, channeling his disturbed subconscious into becoming the voice and will of Allah.

More false moral equivalence from Muslim apologist “Rarely”. Can’t wait for his apologia of stoning rape victims to death…

While there may be some truth in your comments, None of It Is Relevant and your comment is to change the focus or deflect in a pathetic effort to excuse present-day evil.

…………………….
It seems that Rarely hasn’t realized that we no longer have public executions in the West.
This was not purely imposed from above–public opinion turned against public torture, and then against public executions.
Sure, there will always be some brutal people who would line up to see any violent spectacle–but mostly this has to be taught. Islam is a barbaric and collectivist creed based on punishment–of course there are going to be things like Chop Chop Square in Dar-al-Islam.
Anne Smith says
Actually, at the risk of being thought a bit reactionary I would say that a comprehensively good flogging of this kind would have been the best punishment for the evil men of the vile Muslim rape gangs who brutalised, raped, sodomised and tortured the English children in Rotherham, Rochdale, Oxford, Telford, and the many other towns of Britain in the last twenty years.
Instead they are being consigned to comfortable jails where they will be given special favours as they are Muslims, with halal food five times a day, TV, heating, private religious services, books, comfortable cells and in many cases, a more comfortable existence than many people in old people’s homes. Of course, all at the taxpayer’ s expense.

Anne, you are *quite* mistaken in believing that Muslims are punished for raping Infidel women and girls under Shari’ah law.
Joe says
I know “amorous” means affectionate, but I wonder what, exactly, won them the prize of being flogged.
On another note, Islam in Indonesia is called, “Happy Islam”, because it is not as hard and brutal as the Islam from other places. It seems that “Happy Islam” has a lot of pretty sharp teeth, though.
gravenimage says
There is nothing “happy” about Islam–except for those who enjoy seeing people brutalized.
