Pope Francis doesn’t seem to have said a word about the religion that actually teaches that believers should wage war against and subjugate unbelievers. But of course, about that religion he has said, “Authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Koran are opposed to every form of violence.” So it is the Christians who should feel shame for the strife in the world, not anyone else.
“Leave them; they are blind guides. And if a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.” (Matthew 15:14)
“Pope: Christians Should Feel Shame for Global Strife,” Latin American Herald Tribune, March 30, 2018:
ROME – Christians ought to express shame for the actions of those who are leaving future generations a world “fractured by divisions and wars,” Pope Francis said in his prayer during the Good Friday Via Crucis at the Colosseum in Rome.
The pope invoked Jesus of Nazareth, saying “our gaze upon you is full of shame, repentance and hope.”
“Before your supreme love, shame pervades us for having left you alone to suffer for our sins … shame for having chosen Barabbas and not you, power and not you, appearance and not you, the god of money and not you, worldliness and not eternity,” Francis said.
Christians feel shame for all the people, including some clergy, who “allowed themselves to be deceived by ambition and vainglory, losing sight of their dignity and first love,” and those who have left future generations a world “fractured by divisions and wars” and “consumed by selfishness,” the pope said….

I read the article you provided with your link and while I do not at all favor the progressive wing of the Catholic Church, as exampled by Cardinal Danneels, I read nothing that hasn’t been going on for centuries with the papacy, i.e., various factions among the College of Cardinals (and many bishops) wanting to get their “own man” onto the throne of St. Peter and operating in “back room” fashion to accomplish this. The progressive wing of the Church wanted this right after John Paul II’s death but had to wait until Benedict XVI resigned for health reasons. Then they got their man in Francis I. It’s a damn shame that a fool like Francis became Pope but Vatican politics have long been Byzantine and even vicious and so I see nothing new here.

This pope is another product of lazy education: he seems totally ignorant of human history. Humans have been invading and conquering and pillaging and raping and enslaving one another for millennia. War was part of us before Christ was born. Christians and muslims may have added their fair share to the horror, but even the muslims didn’t invent it.
There is still another living pope. One who was far more sensible about this topic. If Francis is an anti-pope, Catholics should start petitioning to get rid of him. No wonder some people think he’s the anti-Christ. I think he’s just a brain-damaged hippie.

The pope’s sovereign city-state, Vatican City, is surrounded by giant walls.
What’s more, the walls were specifically built by a prior pope to repel Muslims.
History shows back in 846, Muslim raiders known as the Saracens looted Old St. Peter’s Basilica and the Papal Basilica of St. Paul outside the walls. The pirates took priceless treasures from the shrines.
Shocked by the sack of some of the most sacred sites in Christendom, Pope Leo IV created the Leonine Wall, completely surrounding the Vatican Hill. Additional defenses were added in the 15th and 16th centuries.

From “Run Away” Ratzinger(the FAILED shepherd, benedict xvi, who abandoned his flock) to “can you believe he’s saying that?” Bergolio(the FALSE shepherd, francis 1.who is busy undermining Christianity and scandalizing the Catholic faithful with his heresies)the men in Rome have been doing a great job(in the service, not of Christ but of lucifer)scattering the flock.
What do you expect from a man like Frankie who is the greatest heretic in living memory?
First,he equates the muslim god allah(who denies Christ k5 v72,denies the Trinity k5 v 73,curses Christians k9:30)… with the Christian GOD,and now recently he denies hell* which negates everything Jesus Christ did…exactly as islam and the koran does.
It is no wonder frankie is a friend of islam;the greatest heresy of all.
This promotion of falsehoods is called HERESY.
The fact that such a false pope would come to power has been known within Catholicism for quite a long time so really it is no surprise:he may try hard to look like a lamb but if you listen, you will notice that he truly speaks like a dragon.Adopting the name of Saint Francis who was famous for helping the poor was a neat trick to deflect attention from his positively luciferian mission.Their is a luciferian cunning at work in Rome amongst these men:it is what Pope Paul Vi warned about.
If you can(..miraculously) keep your faith(what remains of it..)and if you are catholic, certainly you should but you can forget about francis,Rome, cardinals and bishops and priests(except for a small minority) either standing up for the faith or preaching it:they are too busy leading Catholics astray and demolishinh the faith bit by bit.In recent years the Mass became the mass with questionable liturgy introduced by…Josef Ratzinger:most catholics don’t know that.
francis puts on a good show, surrounding himself with a screen of well-publicized,well-photographed, good works and his famous, panglossian, endearing “thumbs up” which you see in many smiley photos of the old Jesuit heretic{which I always imagine should be sub-titled with one of the following:”suckers”,”easily fooled eh?”,”I love muhammed”, or “Oh my Christ!Don’t I just LOVE the poor?”

I do not like Francis I whatsoever. I consider him a very foolish and even destructive man but I have no evidence that he was not canonically elected Pope back in March of 2013. A year after Benedict XVI abdicated for reasons of health, he wrote a refutation to the effect that he was forced from the papacy because of so many rumors circulating that this was the case. If you have evidence that Francis I was not canonically elected, or Benedict XVI was forced out against his will, I would be most interested in reading it.
Salah says
Hi Wellington,
I know, as you wrote numerous times, that you left the Catholic Church. I don’t know if you still believe in the supernatural protection that Jesus himself promised his one and only Church. If this is the case, then the teachings of anti-Pope Bergolio, which blatantly contradict the teachings of Jesus, should be enough evidence that this man CANNOT be the successor of Peter.
If he is, then Jesus is not God. It’s as simple as that.
Happy Easter!
Wellington says
I am a completely non-religious person, Salah, and have been since my mid-teens (which was back in the Mesozoic Era), but you asserted in your 9:31 A.M. post that Benedict XVI’s abdication was made under some kind of coercion. What proof have you for this?
We are in agreement on what a disaster Francis I is, not just for the Catholic Church but for the West in general, but assuming Francis I was canonically elected (which I think he was), then how can he be an anti-Pope, notwithstanding his as yet unclarified remark about Hell? And don’t forget there have been less than savory pontiffs before (two examples being Urban VI {1378-1389} and Alexander VI {1492-1503}) but it does not mean they were not canonically elected.
And on the specific matter of Hell, when I first came across what apparently Francis said about it, it stumped me to be sure. I had to wonder if he might not have meant that Hell really represents the absence of God in some afterlife but this is just a guess on my part.
For the record, I have never come across any evidence that there is an afterlife. If you know of any, I’d be grateful to read of it. In the interest of full disclosure, I should state that religious assertions as preached by religious figures or found in religious texts do not constitute evidence for me. In short, I am not aware of any scientific evidence for an afterlife. And the out-of-body experience that some who have been in a kind of great shock (even pronounced dead by a doctor) and experience a super euphoria, I believe can be explained biochemically due to a major adrenaline rush which is a protective mechanism provided by nature. As Carl Sagan used to say, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence and the assertion that there is an afterlife is most definitely an extraordinary claim.
Salah says
To Wellington,
You wrote:
“…religious assertions as preached by religious figures or found in religious texts do not constitute evidence for me.”
Fair enough. But in this case I can’t provide any tangible proof other than this: Jesus’ disciples saw him dead, then saw him alive. They were willing to give up their lives for this faith. They suffered and died rejected, poor, lonely, despised for what? for a lie? for money? for 72 virgins? for power? for fame?
Sorry, my friend, faith is beyond science. Ask for it, it will be given you.
Wellington says
Thanks for your reply, Salah. I would have to ask, what did Jesus’s disciples see? Perhaps they dreamed of Jesus and, as you know, dreams in the ancient world were considered as real, if not more real, than waking life. There is also the arguable possibility of a spiritual resurrection rather than a physical one, something numerous early Christians like the Gnostic Christians contended was the case (but once the Emperor Constantine embraced Christianity he went with the literalists at the Council of Nicaea in 325, as hammered out by the Nicene Creed, and after that those Christians who thought of the Resurrection in spiritual or symbolic terms were hounded into oblivion (as were their texts like the Gospel of Thomas, the Acts of Pilate and the Gospel of Mary). In fact, the spiritual resurrection interpretation kinda’ sneaked its way into the Gospel of Luke in Chapter 24 when two of Jesus’s disciples at first didn’t recognize him and only did so after sitting down and eating with Jesus.
Then there is the notable fact that the New Testament only has Jesus appearing to people who already believed in him. Hmmm. Strange that he doesn’t appear to Pilate or Caiaphas or…. or…… So, you see, matters here are not as iron tight as many think they are. However, and in the interest of as much objectivity that I can muster, I do concede that what you believe in about Jesus’s Resurrection COULD be the case but since I do not have faith, there are just too many other variables (some of which I just mentioned) for me to conclude ON THE EVIDENCE that Jesus rose physically from the dead.
I write this in a spirit of friendship, not hostility, and look upon the character of Jesus as infinitely superior to that of Mohammed. Happy Easter.
Salah says
To Wellington,
“…what did Jesus’s disciples see? Perhaps they dreamed of Jesus…”
They saw his glorified wounds, they saw him eating, Thomas bowed down saying “My Lord and My GOD.”, they saw him rising to the Father. No one lays down his life for a “dream.”
“…There is also the arguable possibility of a spiritual resurrection …”
They touched him, they put their fingers in his wounds. Again, he ate IN THE FLESH with them.
“…the New Testament only has Jesus appearing to people who already believed in him. Hmmm….”
He appeared to more than 500 people most of them were still alive when his disciples were preaching his resurrection.
“..I write this in a spirit of friendship,..”
I know, and I appreciate your friendship.
“..the character of Jesus as infinitely superior to that of Mohammed..”

This Pope is not a good public speaker. I’m not going to try get inside his mind but I can understand a little bit of what he is saying. A sense of shame comes from the inside so it’s something a person does to himself. Take the time to examine your life, (if only once a year) and try to identify where you failed and where you could do better. This is something EVERYONE can do. The Pope was speaking on Good Friday and that’s a good day on which to do this introspection. That’s what I get out of his message and it should be directed to all the world …. including Muslims. The problem is that the Muslims will either not listen or take the Pope’s words as a sign of weakness. Also, Francis needs to realize that the Muslim sense of failure and success differs greatly from that of a Christian. So this Pope is just preaching to the choir.
Right now my belief is that the papacy should end soon. A reunification between the Eastern and the Western Church should be a priority and there should be 12 Patriarchs (as in 12 Apostles) leading a Church united by Christ at the center with the Pope becoming the Patriarch of Rome. We are living in sad times, the Catholic Church is being led by a communist inspired so called Pope, Islam is a scrouge and is threatening and attacking many Christian countries who have lost their belief in God by becoming secular which has made them weak.
In order to combat this problem I believe we need to turn back to God, prayers are a potent weapon for us to use, if we feel we must perhaps we should attend a church and pray with others. We also must have strong Christian leadership in powerful posistions, be aware of who you vote for and support.

3. Ignore the real problems like islam.
4. Set the stage for persecution of Christians by inflating false accusations against us..

Your exchange with on the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is interesting.
I hadn’t ever thought much about this topic over the years. But two years ago I learned about Simon Greenleaf, a brilliant 19th-century law professor, a world-renowned expert on evidence, one of the principal founders of Harvard Law School, and a convinced agnostic (some say atheist). He would occasionally refer to the Resurrection of Jesus Christ as a hoax or a myth while giving lectures.
One day, a student challenged him to prove his position as if it were a case in a court of law, using rules of evidence, witnesses, testimony, motive and opportunity, and so on. Greenleaf gladly accepted the challenge, but the more he looked into the question, the more perplexed he became. He also looked at the evidence of contemporary historians, archaeology, the lives and deaths of the Apostles, alternative explanations for the Death and Resurrection, and many other theories and pieces of evidence. And he finally came to the conclusion that everything pointed to the resurrection of Jesus Christ as having indeed taken place. Professor Greenleaf then embraced the Christian faith and
Please also consider the following excerpt from an article which argues that Greenfield’s writings are even more applicable today. The entire article is very worth reading.
:
“Greenleaf’s most famous apologetic is an essay entitled, Testimony of the Evangelists Examined by the Rules of Evidence Administered in Courts of Justice.2 Therein, Greenleaf applied the evidentiary rules of his day to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and concluded that the admissible evidence emitted thereby was sufficient to prove in any fair court of law that the resurrection of Jesus Christ was indeed fact—not hoax, myth or fiction. In short, Greenleaf reasoned that copies of the original Gospels extant (i.e., known to be in existence) in his time were at least as authentic as other works of antiquity the authenticity of which was acceptable in courts of law; that the veracity of the testimonies contained therein was demonstrable by internal and external examination (i.e., by examining the consistencies and resolving the paradoxes contained between them, and by comparing the Gospel accounts to corroborating works of other known writers of the time, such as Tacitus, Josephus and Seutonius, etc.); and that the most plausible, the most reasonable, conclusion to be drawn therefrom was that Jesus Christ not only lived and died, but that he arose again from the grave.
Why else, Greenleaf surmised, would twelve disciples (not to mention the Apostle Paul) give up everything they had or could possibly ever have had on this earth, all, but for John,3 to face an executioner’s death? Certainly no man would do so for a lie, let alone all twelve.”
Source:
http://www.creationstudies.org/Education/simon_greenleaf.html
When I researched Professor Greenleaf’s journey, it changed everything for me, putting me on a fortuitous path to reconciling faith and reason. Personally, I can now say with absolute certainty that Jesus Christ did indeed rise from the dead. With this as a starting point, everything gradually fell into place and made sense to me.
The other thing I know with certainty is:
‘We are much worse than we can imagine, but we are much more loved than we can dream.’
Happy Easter to both of you.

That’s a beautiful example of celestial symmetry, but in a much larger sense than what Pythagoras alluded to in his concept of Music of the Spheres.
Thank you.

Essentially only of interest to believing Christians and Jews:
I read today (or yesterday?) in one of the tabloids, Daily Express or Independent, that the pope actually declared that there is no hell, just death for sinners, no kidding – obviously he knows better than what the bible says. Mind, that should not be a surprise knowing the koran better than azhar uni…

Pope Francis may–or may not have–denied the existance of hell:

To gravenimage
Pope Francis is well-served by his retinue of fawning courtiers doing double duty as damage-control experts. He also has a knack for giving interviews to a certain aged, atheistic Italian journalist whose purist modus operandi precludes recording interviews.
The result? Pope Francis gains PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY.
The Vatican can always claim: “Well, we must make allowances for the age of the Pope’s favorite journalist, you know. And he didn’t record the interview.”
Pope Francis also has a full-time professional public relations guy who sets up his gigs, stunts, and photo-ops to make him look as humble and spontaneous as possible. For example, the ‘impromptu’ airplane wedding of two Chilean cabin crew members by the Pope turned out to have been methodically planned.
(The Chilean public was not amused, especially since the Pope also insulted Chilean victims of pedophilia by Catholic priests by publicly doubting their claims.)
And the noble gesture when Francis carried his own luggage onto an airplane was also a stunt. In fact, the luggage had already been stowed away in the aircraft. Pope Francis insisted that the luggage be brought back, so that the paparazzi would be able to capture the moment of unheard-of modesty in a pope for the world to admire and wonder.
Also, the heartwarming scene of the little girl miraculously breaking through the security barrier to rush to the Pope to deliver him a politically convenient message was clearly contrived. This is like when Hillary Clinton passed out on July 4, 2016, and then magically reappeared in top form from Chelsea’s apartment a few hours later, to be greeted by a little girl who magically dodged the Secret Service, and was hugged by Hillary (although she later claimed that she had just been diagnosed with early-stage pneumonia, which is highly contagious). Typical Hillary.
But somehow one expects the Supreme Pontiff to hold himself to a somewhat higher standard than a career criminal, money launderer, and would-be dictator.

Pope: Christians should feel shame for global strife
…………………….
Why? The vast majority of the strife in the world today was initiated by Muslims.
One might argue that in some cases individual Christians or Christian-majority authorities might have handled their responses better–less capitulation, for one thing–but this is very different from the implication that they have *caused* the strife to begin with.
Sarah says
So this Pope says that Christians should feel shame for global strife?
Good thing I’m an Atheist then – and thankfully this supremely cowardly,pedophile-protecting, dangerous dingus of a man does not represent me in any way, shape or form.
I feel damn sorry for all the practicing Catholics of the world though. Irrespective of what my personal views and beliefs are, these are men and women who for their own reasons, believe in God, Jesus, Christianity and ergo, the Pope – and everything that comes with that.
It must be terrifying to believe in Catholicism as a faith- and have this dingus leading the faith when you’ve got your quest for eternal salvation ever present in your mind.
Now, any practicing Catholic on JW who reads this, is welcome to respond and correct me, because I’m hardly the expert here – but its my understanding that the Pope is not only the Leader of the Church but is also responsible for protecting Catholics – keeping them close to the faith and on a true path etc – which this dimwit seems to be making a marvelous muck-up of, in my opinion.
Plus, isn’t the Pope supposed to succeed St Peter when he rocks off to Heaven? I always assumed that meant that each Pope in turn when they arrive at the Pearly Gates, takes on the mantle of keeping the keys of Heaven – and thus, determining which souls are given entry to Heaven and which are sent to Hell.
Man, if I were a Catholic, the bloody last person on the planet that I’d want sitting at those Pearly Gates making those decisions, would be this Pope.
What a ruinous state of affairs. This Pope is going to wind up doing more damage to Catholicism than the East-West schism and Reformation combined. I just don’t see how the faith can survive it in the long run, with that dagger in its heart. And while I have little love for the RCC given its past (and present) behaviours and the shocking atrocities that have been committed in its name – I do feel tremendous sympathy for any practicing Catholic who has to watch their beloved Church crumble from within, all because of one man who is clearly, patently unsuitable for the job he’s been elected to.
gravenimage says
There have been bad popes before, and Catholicism has survived. Few worse than this fool, though.
And thankfully no–there is no doctrine that says that they pope holds the keys to heaven after his death.

Every Sunday at Mass I make the following profession of faith:
I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen
I don’t see anything in that profession about me needing the Pope’s or St. Peter’s permission to pass through any gates or to believe that every word the Pope speaks is the truth. I did ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten the Pope in his decision making … so hope abides within me. I do appreciate your sympathy though. May hope abide within you also. 🙂

Francis should know that the martyrs of “global strife” need feel no shame. As he’s noted there are more of them now than in the early days of the Church.
Cardinal Müller has since complained that Pope Francis “did not give a reason. Just as he gave no reason for dismissing three highly competent members of the CDF a few months earlier.”
“Making reforms in Rome is like cleaning the Sphinx with a toothbrush.”
Carolyne says
The Pope, representing the Catholic God, needs give no reason for any of his actions. They are God sanctioned.

Francis is a true Jesuit in the progressive sense but many Catholics seem determined to reinterpret this.

As a real Catholic, he blames us again and again and probably himself.
I would like to say to Pope Francis that people are responsible for their actions, mercy is not complacency.
JM says
To Lavéritétriomphera
Pope Francis has made a cult of the tyranny of mercy.
He uses the term ‘mercy’ as a threat and a weapon to whip his cardinals, prelates, and bureaucrats into blindly accepting the progressive party line.
Anyone who seems to offer resistance is immediately branded as a ‘pharisee’ and a ‘hypocrite’, and sent into exile or penitence (demoted, banned from the Vatican, etc.)
That’s ironic, considering that Pope Francis himself was once sent into exile by his exasperated superiors in Argentina.
Reports from various credible sources suggest that the current atmosphere in the Vatican is one of fear, anxiety, and paranoia since Francis became Pope.
It’s quite sinister, and eerily reminiscent of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s The Gulag Archipelago.
Lavéritétriomphera says
Bonjour,
I know, I have been thrown out of a church by the priest for saying that mercy did not justify all abuses of Muslims.

Catholics are Christians. Jesuits are not. The Jesuit Oath is a far better policy of deception than the Koran. The Vatican is trying to be relevant by appeasing Globalism and Islam. Islam controls the United Nations. The United Nations controls globalism and the Vatican is hanging onto an ever dissipating membership by is finger nails, happy to support a New World Order and dragging its leadership in Latin America to Hell.

Carolyne says
Sorry, Il Popo. I am not ashamed of our actions vis a’vis Islam and I was not there when Barabas was chosen over Jesus. I am, however, ashamed of a so-called Christian leader (He was never my leader and will never be) who has gone over to the enemy and denigrates all that he is supposed to stand for, and he agrees with them.
He is, in fact, a traitor to the Christians who believe that he is some sort of emissary of their god. If I had a say in the matter, which of course I do not, he would be deposed and sent back to the streets of Argentina to live among his own Communist compatriots./

Carolyne says
I don’t know if Pope’s can be deposed as we understand deposed. But there is that silver hammer kept at the Vatican which has been used before in such cases. It has a specific purpose.
gravenimage says
Carolyne, this is a myth.
A silver hammer has been used once or twice i history to see if a pontiff has passed away–a tap to see if he responded, in the days when medical science was not very advanced.
This has morphed into a bizarre belief that Cardinals regularly beat popes to death with silver hammers.
There is no truth to this whatsoever.
Carolyne says
Sorry. No apostrephe. Popes.

On the persecuted Christians, the Pope has spoken. It’s usually not reported. And do you think that Islamists will listen to the Pope and say, “Yes of course, we are wrong and we will stop doing that?
The quote on hell was made by a ninety year old atheist, who is a friend of the Pope, and who was quoting from memory. The Pope has spoken about the reality of hell in several of his homilies.
Paul Yancey says
there are plenty of ways to report the jihadist threat without making up news or dragging the Pope through the mud. he is a man of peace and love and that’s what he is going to talk about. the fact that he talks about Islam being a religion of peace isn’t a denial of the jihadist actions of Muslims; it is simply his plea for Muslims to accept the peaceful tenets of Islam rather than the violent ones. That is just exactly what Jesus has taught us to do. As Christians, we are commanded to love everyone (even Muslims) even if we hate what they do. We love the sinner but hate the sin. since we are also sinners, we do feel shame for the sins we have committed and we strive to become as holy as Jesus commanded us to. but quoting some idiot from Caracas isn’t helpful. We must all stand together against the jihadist threat; not tear each other apart.
